Hello guys,
I've read on the spec sheet and knowing that OG can use the rev b channels, is it true? The reason i asked this because in my country the rev b channel offers more speed than rev a and we dont have the 4g data connection, and if its true, i wonder how to unlock it?
(And i know my friend evo 3d can be unlocked in order to receive the rev b channel)
Sorry for my bad english

Hello,
I heard sprint is updating their 3G network to rev b which could provide very fast 3G coverage - faster than 4G in some cases. Anyone know if the new Epic Touch 4G does rev b? I know the evdo 3d can do rev b.
Yes it will.

Thanks - I couldn't find anything concrete in the specs on the ET4G. All of the specs sheets I could find on it said EV-DO Rev A.
Nice.
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4g via XDA Premium App. Soon to be swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII Epic Touch on Tuesday.
This isn't confirmed yet, only a rumor. I sure hope it is true though!
Same here!

Small update

yes! I saw 1600kbps download on 3g today...repeated multiple times. Once I left the area it went back to normal speed, so the tower I was connected to must have the latest and greatest. It wasn't that fast 2months ago in the exact same spot.

You just got a nicely performing evdo rev a cell site. Rev b should be much faster. Dies anybody know if the EVO view supports rev b?

Is that under optimal conditions. IE nobody connected to the tower? When I go out to the country (I live in farming area) I get decent speeds, but as soon as I get into the city data speeds get miserable. This was in the middle of the city.
I saw some other strange things this evening near my house where I get almost no service...I think they are gearing up for the iphone.
According to this it will

I've always wondered tho.....those speeds are they best case (1 person connected) or are they realistic (1,000 phones connected?)?

Interesting that you say that... When I go to my cottage up in the middle of the woods of northern Wisconsin, I get 3G roaming from Alltel (I think CellOne bought those particular towers, not Verizon), I get FAR faster data speeds than I do in the middle of Milwaukee.
Bit confusing this thread sez it suppots revb but then this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272773
sez no rev b. Wonder which way it will end up ...
Ok I have a couple of general questions that some may be able to chime in on....
1) with sprint changing up the game and switching over to 4gLTE instead of WIMAXX, are we as Evo wimax users ever going to be able to use LTE w/o upgrading our phone completely?
(I LIVE IN A WIMAXX STRICKEN AREA OF VA AND FEEL AS IF I GOT DUKED ON 2 4G PHONES)
2) Do you guys ever think there will be a rom that will help support Ltd for those of us stricken 4g users now. Or possibly an OTA that will pull us to the top with the rest of the pack of Ltd users?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm not exactly sure, but I think the 4G (WiMAX) radio in your phone is a physical thing so I don't think you will be able to use the LTE and an OTA or a rom would not change that. I did hear that Sprint will support WiMAX for a while, even if they do switch to LTE.
are we as Evo wimax users ever going to be able to use LTE w/o upgrading our phone completely?

No, the Evo will NEVER work on LTE, as it doesn't have an LTE radio. It will continue to work on the wimax network for as long as sprint supports it (probably 2 years or so).

Again no. Flashing a rom isn't going to physically put an LTE radio chip in your phone.
Valid point didn't think about the wimax radio being a physical device...dumb ass me!!!..ha ha..thanks for the reply guys

kind of... http://www.phonearena.com/news/Japa...h-that-all-too-rare-support-for-WiMAX_id25933
sprint's ceo said, they have no more plans for wimax enabled phones. i don't really get it, since the lightsquare's lte is no go for sprint. so wouldn't that make sprint use wimax a little bit longer?
I kind of regret getting this phone now that sprint is ditching wimax... "4g" in my area is slow and will never get any better now. don't think sprint will put out any new wimax phones either.

KDDI is CDMA, no? everywhere i've looked listed this phone as CDMA.
And WiMAX is on same frequency as Clear so WiMax would work even if it were GSM.
shhh...
I really hope Samsung doesn't start putting 16x9 displays in all their new phones.

Don't believe everything you read
KDDI uses CDMA 1X WIN and they have multiple phones that also feature WiMax.
The CDMA side of things may or may not work.. I've never had cdma 1x win h/w to see if its backwards compatible with what Sprint uses. KDDI's WiMax network runs on 2.6ghz.. same as Clearwire. So the device could at minimum run on our WiMax and Wifi networks for web browsing, sms over data w/ google voice and sip calling.
Is it practical to get this phone and use it on Sprint? No. Is it technically possible? Yes? Would it be cool to do? Yes.

have a look at their phones... they're actually all(or mostly) dual cdma/gsm devices. http://www.au.kddi.com/english/seihin/index.html#seihinList3
and when you view wimax spec sheets of any of the models.. they all report 2.6ghz WiMax... same as ours. http://juggly.cn/archives/41059.html
"Available frequencies: CDMA (Band / 2GHz new 800MHz band), WiMAX 2.6GHz"
Japan uses cdma all the time.. why would you be inclined not to believe anyone who makes an educated statement without researching it yourself? im inclined to consider you a fool...
btw autoprime is right.. its cdma.
here is the evo they have..

Sprint is building their LTE network SEPARATE from Lightsquared or Clear. The contract with Lightsquared was to use Sprints towers to bounce off of.

So if our phone is customized cdma/lte is it possible to mirror temporarily to get straight 4g until we get lte? Or is our phone not capable/modifiable to do so?

The 4G network that sprint currently has coverage for is WiMax Our phone does not have a WiMax antenna. So were stuck waiting for LTE 4G to come to our area.
If I helped you click the Thanx button
Yes, was wondering what the catch was! But one more question, what does an antenna have to make a difference in getting wimax vs lte?
Isnt what residual in the board tell it either to receive of send certain waves, etc etc. Is the antenna kryptonite vs coal in wimax phones? Love to Know and Learn, if you catch my drift....so dont take hatefully. Dont know the answer to the question unless the questions have all been answered
Is there a video and explanation of what is in a siii sprint video somewhere?
Firstly i would like to apologize if this issue has been treated before but i think i read into the 12th page and nothing yet... i got an htc desire hd a week ago and as at when i got it it was still locked, i didnt see an H sign or a 3g sign and i used it for 4 days before rooting it, i also tried custom roms and flashed my radio, i tried factory reset too and i also made sure my apn settings were correct, i tried switching to airplane mode from the suggestions i got here and i even tried switching to 3G only but it only shows me the bars with an 'X' sign showing that there isnt any signal, while i can still get an H on another HTC very close to it. please if there is anything i didnt do can anyone suggest it to me...any suggestion would be appreciated...sorry if this post offends anyone...if i had known better i wouldn't have put it up.
Is this desire hd or inspire 4g? Both support 3g on different bandwidth? Where are u from? Check with your service provider about the network bandwidth on whic 3g runs.
Thanks doesn't hurt....
It's an inspire 4g...thanks. I checked with with 2 Sims and 2 different providers and still the same thing

I think u need to enable data first. Even u force the network to select 3g, it will not show up in the network bar with data disabled.
Setting > data usage > turn on mobile data. This method is for cm10.1 so use your own discretion on another type of roms.

Inspire 4G was sold in the USA and the international model was the Desire HD. Check if the frequency bands match for USA and the country where you're trying to use the phone. That should give a clue as to why 3g is not being picked up.

Nope.. The Inspire 4G works on below bandwidths
GSM : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
HSDPA : 850/1900 MHz
While desire hd on 2100 MHz for 3g.
