I got rid of it by long-pressing on it, going to App Info, and force-stopping the service. I don't know what it was, but I didn't like it.
EDIT: It was actually Downloads, not Facebook, that I ultimately force-stopped.

I just got it. 30 min ago. Tried uninstalling FB no dice. Can not clear notification icon.
I held the notification until it said App info, then it took me to the download manager where I did a 'force stop' and then it went away.....then came back : /
but then I cleared the download manager data and it seemed to work.

THANKS worked for me.
Ya even I had such an issue on my s3.... what I did to stop is:
1.Get into settings
2. Application manager
3. Openn Download manager
4. Clear data and then force stop.

Yeah, same here. Pretty fishy since I don't have auto updates turned on. Just noticed it running in my notifications. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Epic 4 G Touch) on Sprint. This thread was the only mention of "Facebook (build 140579)" that Google turned up.

That worked for me! Thanks begadkepat.
Forced stop dl manager and clear data worked here. Odd.
Looks like it has something to do with Google Music app. When I force quit it, it stopped my music. When I kicked my music back on, it started trying to download it again.
It's the Download Manager

The app you're Force Stopping is Download Manager. Among other things, it handles the streams for music, video, etc. That's why it's affecting (and being affected by) apps like Play Music.
Same on my DNA. I did the force stop on the download manager as well. Facebook must just be screwing with our privacy again!
same thing just happened on my s3, i let it do whatever it was for a few but then decided to clear the data and force stop. Odd little thing no one seems to know what its doing.
Same issue on Motorola Admiral (rooted).
Clearing the data on the Download Manager got rid of it (didn't force stop).
Sorry for the lateness. But yea I did the same thing and it stopped for me. It's weird too cuz when I checked the download app, there was no source

Talkatone
I got this Facebook download notification when I booted talkatone. I'm not sure how they are related.
I am getting crashes constantly with the update to this app. Is anyone experiencing the same problem?
Same here, running CM10.1.
Tried clearing data, re-installing, and it still crashes.
EDIT: Attached is the log of my crash if anyone finds it helpful

I'm experiencing bad battery and really slow charging times. I actually loose battery while plugged in and using phone. I have no partial wakelocks but when I go into the built in task manager Google play music is always running even after a reboot. Looks like the latest update has some bugs.

A clue to the issue?
I've been following this issue for a few days.
I have a T-mobile GS3 on CM 10.1. Ran the update to Play Music and it crashes as well.
It looks like the issue might be too many songs on the device. Not sure what the threshold is, but unmounting my SD (which has about 5500 songs on it) prevented Play Music from crashing. So this looks like a confirmation of the cause, at least on my device. Hopefully they fix this soon.
I'm not sure I dig the new version, though. Where did the Instant Mix go?? I guess it's a radio station now, but that pulls things in from Listen Now. What if I just want my music?

It seems that this is the likely problem. I noticed that it was unable to read anything on my SD card, including my playlists.

No dice for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.
One of the best things we can do is report the error when it force closes. I think Google reads them.

Unfortunately when mine crashes it does not let me report it,
Looks like the update doesn't like too many songs. Deleted a few hundred and it works.
It's being fixed. Saw an article about the same issue and Google was working on an update to fix the issues with crashing and not properly closing its background process.

I was getting the errors opening it and even errors after I had closed it (presumably something in background) so I uninstalled it.
After reading that people were saying they had issues related to SD card storage I turned on the 'apps must request permission to read sd card' in case that was somehow related and re-installed. working for 5 mins without a crash now (never happened before)....
Maybe anyone having a problem try re-installing now?
Google Play Music Crashes
Hey, bought my Note 3 in February 2014. My Google Play music keeps crashing. There hasn't been a post on here in a long time. Does anyone know how to fix this?? Please help!
Are there any solutions for the problems the LGOG has with Play Music All Access?
As-is, songs stop playing about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through, with the error "Music temporarily unavailable. Couldn't play the stream you requested."
This happens regardless of network connection... It was fixed when I tried out CM10, but it had so many other stability problems that it wasn't worth keeping as a daily ROM.
Apparently a lot of LGOG users have this problem, should I just cancel and go with Spotify? I really like All Access, but if there's no solution for the errors I guess there's no option.
I really liked the service, but couldn't stand the errors anymore. I canceled and went with spotify.

The only solution I found was to flash an aosp or aokp rom. Everything else I tried and even stock based roms I errored out.
I was thinking about going back to spotify but I like Google music so much better.

Still broken
Got the new version (v5.2.1224L) this morning. At first I thought it might be working but after a couple of songs, it resumed this annoying behavior.
Hey all, since I rooted and installed bonestock I've been getting errors when playing content on google play movies.
Specifically I'm getting error 31 - "there was a problem while playing, touch to retry". The movies won't even start, it's very disappointing considering I love consuming media on the One. Anyone else had this problem or figured out a workaround?

I've been away from flashing ROM's until recently, and unless I'm mistaken, you CANNOT use Google Play Movies on a rooted phone.

wuuuuut really? Man I was thinking about buying one recently but since you said that forget it lol
I get the same error. However, casting to Chromecast on TV from the phone still works so it's not a huge deal. I've read that the error happens on non-rooted phones too, so hopefully Google and/or HTC will fix this.
I ended up calling Google support and they gave me a full refund on a TV series I had purchased. Apparently they are working on a fix for the app, but could not give me an estimated fix date.
It happened to me as well when I installed 1.2. I got an error upon setting the phone up that said I was missing Google Services. I restored stock and reflashed 1.2 and the issue didn't arise again.

Not true. Use play movies on Bonestock 1.2 all the time.

I've been getting error 31 with Google Play Movies since I rooted my HTC One as well. The first time it happened about 15 minutes into a rented movie. It won't play it or anything else since then. When it happened the first time, I was on the stock ROM. Now I'm on Ecliptic-One Inverted and it's still giving me the error. FWIW I contacted Google and they said the phone was not compatible. I'm not buying that because it worked before I rooted. I'm willing to try Bonestock if it works, but I don't see what the difference would be since they're both based off of the stock HTC Sense.
Edit: Problem solved itself over time.
Hello everyone.
Like mentioned in the title the tablet only shows apps under my Apps in the Play Store, I downloaded or updated manually in the Play Store. It also doesn't show preinstalled Apps like Chrome,Gmaps or YouTube in the Application manager, unless I looked them up and manually update them in the Play Store. I had exactly the same problem yesterday with an Samsung Galaxy Trend (GT-S7560), but after some messing around and several restarts the apps suddenly showed up and everything worked fine then. Sadly I don't know what fixed it on the phone. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this problem? It isn't a huge problem, but with all the Android devices I set up, I never encountered this except with these two Samsung devices.
Many Thanks in advance!

Sorry forgot to mention that I already tried it, sadly, without success. It was one of the last things I did before it worked on the phone, didn't worked on the tablet yet.
What play store version do you have?
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk
The problem solved itself again! Just as I went to look up the Play Store version (4.5.10 btw.), the apps appeared under the "All" category and in the Application manager, could update them and everything works fine now. Really strange that this occurred with two Samsung devices on two following days. Thanks anyway for your help!
