Is there anyone that moved from the S3 to the Note 2? I am interested in learning if the incremental benefits are worth the cost and the upgrade.

I have a white note 2. I sold my s3 for $500 (had alot of cases lol) and paid the full price. I switched back to my s3. My note 2 is still here i got til monday to decide what to do. I just really dont see any difference. The s3 just feels better and theres just so many companies supporting the s3 with acessories

office mate has an s3 and bummed about it after seeing my note. He loved the larger screen and longer battery life. I felt bad.
I went from S3 to Note2. No regrets here. After using the Note2 for a few days, it doesnt feel all that big anymore. I do like how the S3 felt really light though but no biggie. The bigger screen and battery life is awesome. I had got the S3 about 3months ago so I had to pay full price for Note 2 and sold S3 to my cousin. With Note2, I have no need for a tablet
The S3 (in the US) is only a mild refresh on the S2... I would rate those two phones to be about the same. The Galaxy Note II has a lot of the features that you would expect from the next generation update not an incremental one, like you said.
I am such a fan of the pen and have the 10.1 note but it is a little big to bring to meetings and carry around. I really love the 7 inch size and have the HTC View which works okay but incomparison to the Samsung spen it its really lagging. Ideally I would love a 7.7 note and wonder ids the 5" note 2 actually big enough to take meeting notes. It's anyone really using the note 2 for this?

The only thing I use the S-pen for is quick notes like lists and debit card transactions so I don't have to carry paper or the check book all day to keep it balanced. I couldn't see myself taking extensive notes on it but for jotting down quick things its nice.

I just got the Note 2 on Friday afternoon. I still have my Galaxy S3. So far, I was surprised at how light the Note 2 is. It's light compared to my S3 with its extended (4200mah) battery. I thought it would take a little while to get used to the Note 2's size, but it already feels comfortable most of the time.
S Pen features are going to take some getting used to, and the calendar write-in seems to be much less functional than I hoped. I can write on the calendar, but I only see it when in handwriting mode. Samsung's "help" also says that the events won't be synced to your Google calendar, only saved locally.
I sold my s3 for 430. Got the note 2. Hubbys giving his gs3 to his daughter and getting the note 2 when they come out at best buy.
The Note 2 is an Amazing Gadget and quad core fasssst !!
I got the Sprint S3 for the past 2 months and I love everything about it !! but I had to buy the Note 2 since I was very curious and after using it for 5 days now I really think that the Galaxy Note 2 is much more smooth and responsive than the S3, especially when playing games. I never felt like these phones were made for those high graphic games but, after playing on my Note 2 I am a happy customer. but still, I miss having the S3 since the Note size is a bit bigger and not as easy to hold in your hand as the S3. I have another week to decide if I want to keep it or not but I will probably end up selling my S3 on eBay and rooting this bad boy !!!

I also had the gs3 and just recently got the note2 on saturday morning. So far everything is good. My hands are skinny so i used to hold the gs3 with both hands to type aince my fingers are long it was not very confortable to type but its was not terribly bad. With the note2 now having both hands to type makes more sense and also its feels gooda typing...still trying to get use to the screen size. As far as using the s pen for notes, i havent use it much yet but i can see this will become useful for short notes but not lengthy notes tho.
No regrets here for trading the gs3

went from S3 to N2 and love it, definitely more powerful, and I am a big video watcher so the screen upgrade was more than worth it, I LOVE THIS THING!
On the verge of switching from S3...but
I really want to make the switch to the note 2 but the lack of SVDO (simultaneous voice and 3G data) on the Note 2 is a downgrade. I never thought it was a capability that mattered until I got used to it. Using my GPS in the car while on a call or accessing the web or email while on a call is a nice convenience...People on GSM (AT&T and T-mobile) don't have this issue.
I really want to make the switch....Other concerns are tether and roam control but those should get worked out over time.
Again, I came from S3 and I enjoy this thing.
play "Draw Something". When you can actually draw precision art with note 2 stylus when the person you're playing with is drawing doodles, you'll know why you bought this phone.
On a serious note, screen size, battery life yes all those, but what's impressive is that this thing benchmarks higher than almost any other devices out there. 6000 on quadrant with stock rom.

I thought that with LTE you can do voice and data simultaneously.
Anyways, I'm liking the N2 but miss all the ROMs that the S3 had (like Paranoid Android).

I believe that is the case regarding LTE but don't hold your breath with Sprint getting a decent level of LTE coverage. I am in Atlanta where we have had coverage for several months. I have found the LTE to be spotty and unreliable. There are many times when I will be on 4G and will have high download speeds but 0 upstream. The automatic switching can be pretty dicey. Sprint's 3G is nothing to brag about but the coverage is obviously a lot better than their LTE. Hopefully LTE will get better soon.
Actually, if I knew that roam control was working on the Note 2 I would be more likely to make the switch. It has been a life saver in dealing with situations where Sprint has their roaming algorithm ridiculously rigged to not roam when there is virtually no signal. Yesterday, I was at an appointment for an hour where I was showing zero bars (signal was below -105dB). The phone was heating up and my battery was dying. I forced to roam and had full bars. I don't use this frequently but it has been invaluable in dealing with Sprint's poor coverage on occasion.
I might end up picking up the Note 2 and keeping the GS3 just in case.

Hello all,
Please excuse any typos as I'm creating this post on my tiny iPhone. But I'm lookin to get a note or note 2. I've read as much as I think I can on both and have come up with some thoughts but need to ask someone who's owned both. I like the looks of the 1 better personally but the 2 is obviously faster and have read the s-pen is a lot more comfortable on the 2. My questions are:
(And don't consider the price difference when you give your thoughts)
1) Which do you like better and why?
2) With the ppi being less on the 2, is it noticeable?
3) Is the 2 THAT much faster?
4) Have you upgraded your 1 to the latest OTA and how does it compare to the 2 now?
Thanks in advance! Gonna be a note user by the end of the month but want to make the best decision.

I have had them both as well,
the one was nice, but the note2 is in a whole different league than any other phone right now..
Had the international note. It was an amazing device however the note 2 by far surpasses it on ever level. Go note 2 or hold out for the S4

Have both. Note 2 better by far. Note 1 has issues with black crush (something to consider if you watch a lot of video). Battery on note 2 far out classes the note, though note 1 was far from unfriendly for an average user. Screen is marginally better on note 2, but note 1 screen is no slouch (with the exception of black crush issue -search This issue to see if this will be a set back for you . to me it really wasn't as it was only noticeable in dark environment with brightness of phone turned down. Rare conditions for my usage)
Stylus on 2 is much better.
Multi window convenient on note 2.
Really can't go wrong with either but 2 is better.

Exactly what I was going to say. I just want to EMPHASIZE how much better the Note 2 battery is to the Note 1 Att. Even though it is only 600mah more on the Note 2 real life use it is probably like 75% better. The battery life alone should sway you to the Note 2.
If not the camera is better also, with how fast it takes pics compared to the Note 1. Obviously including everything that was said above also.
The Black Crush is really annoying too if you watch movies.

Hello,
1. I have to buy a Note 2 in germany.
I saw in the shops that there seems to be a different type of displays on the Samsung galaxy models. Last week I saw a SG S3 and a Note 2 side by side and the whites on the S3 where much better as on the Note 2. Normally it is the opposite way around?!?
I did not follow up the Note 2 thread on XDA to know if I have to take care of something.
Has there been bad early batches? (SDS or something like that)
2. Is there a big difference if the Note 2 is a EU or a german version? I am going to root the phone.

No bad batches afaik.
SDS is a primaraly a software issue and not hardware originated.
There are 2 kinds of GN2:
1. N7100 with quadcore cpu that supports HSPA+
2. N7105 with dualcore cpu that supports LTE (4g)
Do you something know about the contrast differences?
I cecked the colour rofile settings on both devices and the screen brightness, but these certain S3 had a better display than the Mote 2.
That's due to the high ppi of s3.

Buy LG Optimus G Pro if you can. If you cannot, Note II is a good choice.
but on many reviews the N2 is brighter and crisper?
The Optimus pro does not have such a good battery life. But I just found one statement according battery life.

Yes exynos platform is somehow very good when it comes to battery life and Amoled has almost unbeatable color saturation.
But...
I'm a long time Samsung user. However Samsung disappointed many of us with its open source policy.
If you're planning to use CyanogenMod roms, stay away from Samsung.
I nearly always use CM or AOSP.
I saw many ROMs of these kind in the developement section. Do they have serious bugs?

Bugs? You misunderstood.
All of them are based on CyanogenMod and at the end they are using the same source code.
CyanogenMod is not/will not be as good as Samsung stock rom due to lack of exynos source codes. CM developers can't do much without them.

If you want pure android (therefore CM) experience buy a google device
If you want a CM compatible device, buy a qualcomm chipset device
If you don't care about them, buy a Samsung device.

Yes I did. I already had a Galaxy in my hands, so I know where the settings are.
For comparison I checked the text on the Settings menu on both devices and looked at the white text on the dark background. The S3 display was much sharper and the text was more white than the N2.
I know other smartphones with different display types (HTC one for example), so I just wanted to know if the galaxy series do have the same "problems".
Are you sure? Just asking because of threads about SDS on N7100.

Hi everybody,
I am entering uni soon (engineering major) and I need a device to write quick notes and equations I know the note series are perfect for that.
But the question is should I wait for note 3 or buy note 2
(I can wait, but if you encourage me to buy the note 2 I will buy it)
P.s- my course starts at 15 september
You will not be disappointed with the Note 2. It depends on your financial situation I guess. The Note 2 can be had for quite a reasonable price at the moment, and the Note 3 will be considerably more expensive at release. It's also not likely to be readily available by the time you start your course.

Note 3 is going to have a bigger screen between 5.7 to 5.9, release date is rumoured as August end or Oct. Its going to be a octacore with 3gig ram so definetly going to be expensive. If note takin is your objective go for Note 8.

If you primarily want the thing for writing notes, then get the Note 2 now. The Note 3 won't be any better at "writing notes". Save your money, you won't regret it.
Note 2 is still a damn good valid device! It's not old or slow or anything.
Note 3 will be better, as usual, but with that comes a hefty price tag.
Note 8 is larger and is probably better suited for note taking as the Note 2 / 3 are primarily phones and then pen oriented. So while they can take notes VERY well, to use it as a note taking device? I don't know... I would rather have a dedicated device to take notes at the university. Plus 5.5 inches isn't too much space to be taking notes...
Depends. If you really need a phone. Go for it. But if you can wait a few more months, wait for Note III. I just bought a Note II a couple of days ago and I'm really happy with it.

I don't think the Note 2 will be outdated for a while. And for the price it is now, with all the advantages like screen size, stylus, massive battery and speedy performance, it's a no brainer. Go for it.
I'm actually in the same situation. Got an s2 but wanna upgrade to Note. But I'm in Australia and may be very late in year before it comes out. So I think the Note 2 is more value for money at this stage.

I considered the same question, and decided against the LTE version. For one, I'm not out and about downloading heavily. The non-LTE Note 2 I have has Speedtested at around 14mbps at times, which is plenty for me. And being a tinkerer, the 3G version has FAR more ROMS and kernels available than the LTE version.

Try em all and decide, 'good' differs from person to person Nandroid is great for that.
Probably the biggest decision is going with a Touchwiz/Samsung based ROM, or an AOSP based ROM. There are pros and cons of each type (specifically stylus and multi-window functions related to framework changes). A quick search on this subforum will net you all the information you need.
I tried a bunch of TW ones, and a bunch of AOSP ones, and settled on Slimbean. Simple and functional, with very minimal memory/space overhead, a bit how I've setup my PC (using XFCE). Good luck with it all.

Hi all,
I sold my Note 1 last week, since it was dying on me constantly and I needed a new one. Of course I couldn't simply downgrade to a smaller phone, and I've received a good offer for my Upgrade. I was going to get the Note 2 for £23 a month for the next two years.
Now I know the Note 3 has just come out, but at it's current price tag (£42 a month +) I just couldn't afford it.
Would it still be a good choice to upgrade to the Note 2 for the next two years? All I want is a solid productive phone with a great battery life, something my Note 1 didn't have.
Thanks in advance!

go for note2 if your budget does not permit a lot is expected with the official 4.3 update and then kitkat rolling soon next year
Let's see, I always brought my Note II with me at work.
And the working hours are 8:30am to 1pm and 2pm to 5:30pm
At the end of my work I still have 70 to 80 battery percent with Mobile Data turned on all day.
So yeah, I would still buy Note II if I had Note I and couldn't afford Note III.
But if you're someone who's itching to try out Note III, sometime along the way you'll be like "I wish I bought Note III"
Anyway, Note II is a good phone, actually almost perfect. You can survive the whole day with this guy.
Aside from battery, it's very responsive and fast.
Plus, it's never bad to upgrade hehe.
Assuming you're not a gadget/phone hungry guy, go for Note II bro.

I agree, the Note 2 is still an excellent phone. I strongly recommend to buy the LTE version (N7105).
On the other hand, if you don't like Samsung's monopolist tendency (like I don't), the LG G2 seems to be a great, affordable option. Could be my next phone (or the Nexus 5 once it's available).

Buy a note 2 now. It's as cheap as it will get. Note 3 does not bring much to the table, you still can't see pixels in 720p and you can scale your UI however you like it using a launcher so 1080p on small devices is pretty much useless.
Battery life is ridiculously long comparing it to any other smartphone.
May not be as beautifuly crafted even as a HOX but at least they work.
It's a cheap phone that's very powerful and also does the job of a 7" tablet well. Also there's a neat stylus that does all sorts of cool stuff. Also new update soon including most of note 3's new software.
Get a note 2

Go for it, the prices have dropped to reasonable levels too.
You had a Note, so the size will be a non issue.
The only minor regret I have, is that looks and aesthetics matter to me more than I thought it did.
Slap the official protective cover, and I love it again
Thanks for all of your responses guys!
I've decided to take the plunge and have ordered the Note 2
Looks like I'll be rooting it as soon as I get my hands on it
Looks like I've received the 4G Note 2 (GT-N7105)..
Anyone know if there is any disadvantages to this? I don't mind the 4G, but I really do not want battery life to be affected, mainly because I'll be using Wi-Fi and don't have a 4g plan anyway.
Any ideas on whether I should give it back for an N7100?
Thanks!
No way should you give it back. I have the 7105 and don't have a 4g plan either but will maybe get one on my next contract.
Imo the 7105 will be worth more in trade in and your still going to use it non lte so the battery issue is not an issue.
As long as you don't want fm radio keep and enjoy what you got.
Let us know how you get on.

I wouldve recommended the Note 3 if not for that ugly looking bezel.

My two cents:
I have an Xperia Z and a Note 2, and recently bought an S4, after mulling a bit over the Note 3. I found that my Note 2 betters the S4, and beats the Xperia too. The Note 3 for me did not offer any thing new that I could find interesting. The Note 2 is still an awesome device, and I won't be letting it go for a while.
The main plus the N3 has over N2 (for me) is a better display. For my everyday use (office stuff, light gaming, music) the N2 is great, the battery rocks, and the 8mp camera is decent enough (and better than the Xperia's in many aspects - not kidding! ). I would recommend this phone any day!
