Hello guys.As you all know we won't be getting official JB from sony,i want to try other JB rom for my xperia arc. It's bootloader is locked and i don't want to unlock it now(my bootloader can be unlocked,i checked the info). So what's the best JB for now?
I have my xperia arc on official ony ICS which is supercharged and lots of other modes but it still lags sometime, hangs when using browsers, games and other multitasking. The RAM is always low like 90-100 after some apps uses.So i wan to try JB as it may be faster than current ICS.

JB's rom have less ram than ICS and also u need to unlock your bootloader cause only FXP based kernel works with JB
Jb requires a different kernel so you can't install it in locked bootloader.
You can try a jelly sandwich which give the look of jb but not fully jelly bean power.
I think you should wait for jb to be fully stable then unlock the bootloader to feel full taste of jb.

why should there be less free ram?

same reason why ICS use more ram than GB, to make everything faster, it use more resource.
Also FXP still have to finish the CM10 so they have to optimize Ram usage.
Supercharger is the thing causing your fc's and terible lag. Get rid of it. Restore to factory do everything you would usually do excluding the supercharger its not needed anymore as the problems like homescreen redraws are now fixed in 587. I was having the exact same problems as you mate its supercharger, no doubts about it. Do a nandroid backup first restore to stock, restore your programs with titanium and test for lag and fc's.
Alternatively before doing a factory reset try unsupercharging then booting into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache partition and see if that sorts it before restoring.

then your os is setup incorrectly the screen redraw problem has been fixed so i reckon its an app on your phone causing it. If your not using stock launcher its most likely your third party launcher, Give me your phone id set it up correctly without supercharger and with nothing fcing ever. My tip is irrelevant if your using a custom rom and a third party launcher as thats the problem custom roms need to be supercharged really as they suck.

I also think i started having lags after supercharger.I was very annoyed by home app redraw so i supercharged it.app redraw problem was gone but RAM seems to be low all the time and my games(even 2D sometime) started lagging. Are you 100% sure .587 has no app redraw problem.I hread 587 has only some minor changes like baseband etc.I am in .431 so i think i will flash .587(as i have O2 version which didn't get ICS )
Also isn't CM10 fully working?Do i have to flash another kernel and unlock bootloader for this.I heard flashing kernel and unlocking bootloader can break phones?

100% mate. Just make sure to use stock launcher yes the folders are a bit boring compared to 3rd party but it’s stable. Also task managers can’t kill my launcher on 587 nor my keyboard nor my systemui. These 3 apps stay open constantly. Also the contacts, dialler and messaging apps now stays active in memory and not exiting like it used to. They all stay up no matter what (first three not the last three). All of the problems I was having after installing ics stopped when I upgraded to 587 the memory management is much better.
Also don't use task managers to kill programs let android manage the ram. Install a program called watchdog and set it to aggressive mode you can then track down what program if any are unstable and then use autolaunches to stop the badly coded program from booting if you cant 100% live without said program.
Good article on this here
http://lifehacker.com/5650894/andro...ed-what-they-do-and-why-you-shouldnt-use-them
After making allot of configurations to the phone such as installing or uninstalling lots of programs clear the dalvik cache and cache partition with cwm say once a month.
Just do a backup and a simple test upgrade to 587 restore your apps, install some games and test for lag also install advanced task killer and try killing the launcher. The lag in games was the same for me as well with supercharger with exception to all of them crashing during load or 5 minutes after loading. Supercharger cause me so many ****ing headaches and it took me ages to work out what it was.
I agree btw on releases before 587 I was having a lot of problems that 587 sorted. I was really close to buying another phone but 587 sorted my phone out. Also stay away from unlocking the bootloader. You will try lots of different ROMs and come to the conclusion that there all ****e. They all have some bugs or lots of bugs. The only time that would be worth looking at is maybe when jb is released.
I personally unlocked by bootloader and had custom ROMs on it. The phone completely died a couple of months later. I looked after my phone never dropped it ever, It may be related which I personally believe but then again it might not which I doubt. Root the phone, stay on stock and use watchdog to track down badly coded programs. Tracking down the **** programs and getting rid of them will do more for your phones performance that any build.prop tweak you can think of and if you can’t live without the badly coded program you can just use autostarts to stop it auto launching and to only launch when you do it yourself
I also disagree on the minor changes front if it wasn’t for 587 I would be out of pocket by about £700 as I was so close to buying an iphone. 587 definitely sorted the memory management out for me.
For more ram I used swapper, only works on 587,no more lag...I played asphalt 7 and wild blood very smooth, just use the last andreno software...

Wonder if someone could help me when I flashed the UK generic 42 Rom from the development forum everything went perfectly well but when I connect my phone to pc companion it says I need to update to 42?
Lots of people say that happens, it's likely because it's not the firmware specifically for your device (hence it's generic). Either ignore it, or delete the app that checks for firmware updates I guess
Is there no difference in the two versions could I install it through pc companion on top of this one? I have got dooms kernel l loaded And root?
Well if you're unlocked, I'd advise against any official upgrades. If you're locked, there should be no harm in upgrading officially. Though there really should be no difference other than the bloat that comes with it (which can simply be removed with Titanium Backup)

Ye bootloader is unlocked just thought it might clear some issues up I.e when returning to home screen it takes a while for the home screen to load back up?
May be a shortage of available ram, have you removed any of the bloat?

No I'm not sure on what is safe and best to remove?
Well there's your problem. The generic .42 has LOADS of bloat, which will make your phone slower than ever. Try first off removing the chinese stuff and the pre-installed games you don't want, cuz none of those should matter whatsoever. After that, it gets trickier though and if you're not sure about something, back it up first and try freezing it before uninstalling (if you have TB pro).
I've done some testing for a good few of the core system apps so if you have a question about an app, I'll do my best to tell you if it's okay to remove and what any side-effects of removing it may be.
Thank you I have removed some games and some services that I don't want I only found one Chinese app touch keyboard? Is there any I missed? Thank you once again
Sounds like you got rid of most of the forced-bloat apps, hopefully you have more ram now. If battery drain is an issue, you may want to look into disabling or removing services cuz those can cut into the battery majorly. If you do end up going into more depth with services removal, make sure you either have a NAND backup of your device or know exactly what you're doing.
Regardless, if you're staying with the stock firmware, I recommend flashing DooMKerneL because it's incredibly fast and allows you to go into recovery mode to backup the NAND.
Oh, and you're welcome
EDIT: Good to know it helped, congrats and happy hacking to ye'
Yes I've got dooms 2ghz kernel is mighty fast and I have made backups of the apps I have uninstalled it is alot better now thanks I'm just gonna make an ext3 partition and flash a a2sd script to move my cache to sd and it will be all perfect then cheers dude!
Hi to all,
Since i've updated my Arc S to ICS 4.0.4 (official update), it keeps freezing all the time and sometimes i have to remove the battery and switch it back on. This happens also after a full wipe. I also unlocked the bootloader and flashed the DoomKernel and JJ's Hybrid Rom and now my Arc s goes fantastic smooth but still it keeps freezing. Basically when i'm using it blocks and wont unfreeze. This does not happen with Gingerbread..
Is this a kernel related problem? What should i do? I've already wiped and format my phone many times with no result. ICS in general presents this issue...should i try an other ROM or Kernel? Underclock my processor? Any ideas? It's really frustrating
I would suspect it's kernel related, DoomLord has yet to update his kernel for 431. I've not had one freeze on stock ICS with ArcKnight kernel.

You could try to remove Sony bloatware. Use 'Es file explorer' for example to create a folder in your SD Card, get into Apps folder, inside System folder, and select everything you don´t use and copy them to the folder you have created (just to have a backup in case you remove something the phone really needs). After copying, you can delete them from system folder.
After removing bloatware from my phone, which runs stock ics with stock kernel and with processor running between 133mhz to 1024 mhz, it runs a lot better and battery always lasts from 24 to 48 hours with no freezes and no restarts. (I have had some problems long ago with dolphin browser always closing due to low ram in my phone, but nowadays I use boat or stock browser and usually watch for my phone´s memory through Es Task Killer)
Also, enter into 'leds' folder in your system and edit it so the backlight buttons won´t turn on. That saves even more juice in your phone.
Don´t be perfeccionist with your phone. As the time goes passing, surely it´s going to become weaker to new software releases.
And no way ICS is going to run smoother than Gingerbread, but no way also Gingerbread will have all the ornaments ICS has.
Remember: I´m not telling you what to do with your phone, I´m just suggesting that with a little bit of curiosity and customization (and not necessarily unlocking bootloaders or flashing other roms) you can make things work closer to the way you expect your phone to.
The best advice someone could give you here is: search! (hehe) The more you read, the more you´ll know.
Best regards...

I don't like that stock launcher on CM 7.2 (ADW) so I've installed Go Launcher. It makes my device hangs(maybe the Go Launcher is too heavy and being the cause) and I need to take the battery out for reboot. Only me or not? Used RAM are usually on 450-550MB. I'm not sure it's the launcher that cause this or what. If any other user experienced this, reply this thread to tell that I'm not alone. And when I turn on WiFi or Cellular Data, it lags for awhile (my device only or what?).
had no problems with cm7.2 and go launcher... didn't used it for a while tho

i dont really bother fixing any problems with my device... I just do a clean wipe and reflash
maybe you did some unsafe configuration to your rom like cpu freq and so on?..

I know reflashing can solve my problem easily, but I don't wanna reflash because I will need to start again from clean ROM.
And I didn't overclock it, neither do anything unsafe (at least in what I remember). It just freeze up like out of RAM (I'm not sure it's out of memory or what because I can't check the memory status when it started to freeze).
My sis has wfs (marvel) that had stock rom for the last ywar and began to rub v slow lately (19mb memory freee;(( ). So i unlocked it and rooted (s-off). Then begun to load different cuctom roms. Most of these show 150mb free ram straight after install and run smooth. However 10 minutes after syncing with apps from google account Im left with 20-40mb of free mem and phone is sooooo slow 15 minutes after reinstalling brand new rom. Of course full wipe, clean cash, dalvik cache is applied before update.
Why is this happening? Dont get me wrong, its not like im installing 100+ apps. Theres literally NO apps on this phone except whatsapp and two other 10megs apps. Thats it. Theres not even fb app on this phone.
Why roms that have description as 'lighting fast' 'superb smooth' etc are so painfully slow and bugged? My sister already asked me to get the phone back to original settings. So I have downloaded stock rom and am ready to get back to original rom. But am I missing here something?
I thought the whole point of instlaling custom roms was to get the whole new speedy and smooth experience with the phone. After what I experienced in last few days is far from it;(
Any ideas? Is it because I should format SD card and use link2sd and similar soft?

BUMP!
My wife has a similar problem on her wfS. I have also tried several roms but they inevitably end up with low memory I have found you can manage this by removing unwanted apps and system apps and regularly clearing the cache and clearing the data every so often for some apps. I found facebook was a big offender for having a large data pool (40+mb) so clearing that helps in the short term.
If any one knows of a good way to free up memory on the wildfire s please share because I have yet to find a suitable long term option for this.
wfs so slow
hey guys,
give a try to cronmod int2ext+.
it s a script.
u need partition u r sdcard first.
then download and flash the cron mod int2ext+.
flash it using cwm recovery.
goodluck.
dont't forget to reply me after trying it
try aopk, fast & smooth!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2262394
keep it slim
I'd also recommend using INT2EXT scripts as mentioned above but make sure that the ROM works with it.
also if you want to keep as much memory free as possible search around for slim or slimmed ROMs as they are generally much smaller than the regular ROMs. they do have less bloatware so you MAY have to install a couple things you like if they're not included but I personally think they're fantastic. just find the one that's right for you.
heres a few links to get you started;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068879 - the slim ROM series from thehacka1. a good place to start.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2315788 - another great slimmed ROM I was using for a while.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380334 - this is what I'm currently running and very impressed with.
have a go at these and see what you think. different strokes for different folks but they may be what you're after :fingers-crossed:
EDIT: oh, also depending on what you use you can also install slim gapps that take up much less space, like this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265564
takes up 10mb rather than 63mb. also a little more info about slim ROMs.
My father is complaining a lot lately that the phone is even slower than usual and that apps are not installing. I checked it out myself and while I find stock ICS on these devices literally unusable even after a fresh install, this time it's worse than anything I've ever seen, apps take several seconds to open and the phone chugs along at a snail's pace. On top of that, I can't install **** even though I have over 100Mb free internal memory, yet the Play Store keeps complaining about not enough storage available.
I have no idea how the phone became this slow, like I said before, ICS is a clunky sluggish mess on 2011 xperias, but now it's even worse, and my father other than the stock apps only installed Whatsapp.
So yeah, how do I make this piece of crap usable and how do you fix the storage issue? Google gives me a billion different solutions and not a single one works.
Phone is rooted on stock ICS latest, model is ARC S.
Formatting the phone is not a solution, so I can't install another rom (unless you can keep the data partition).

Go back to GB. In the end, this phone was made to run smootly on GB, not on ICS.
Stock ICS is just a huge fail. Custom ROMs make it a little better, but GB works the best.
EDIT: Just a note, for Play Store issue, try clearing data for the Play Store app.

You can try flashing a new ROM without wiping Data...
Nevertheless, IMO, the best solution is to save all the data on the SD Card and reflash the stock Arc S TFT through FlashTool. This will normally solve lots of bugs.
Hope I helped.
Cheers.

Stock ICS sucks on arc, custom ROM is a little better than stock but still it's pretty slow.I recommended you to use the ROM that i use it's custom, everything works perfect and it's fast. It's based on GB.Gin2KitKat 3.0.0 the ROM is themed to look like kitkat but it's GB and it runs perfectly on this phone, that ROM you can install without wiping data, just follow the steps(Gin2KitKat is the ROM that that works for me,there are different people's with different need's but this is the ROM i always come back to).But almost every ROM you can flash without wiping data, but ROM's works better when the phone is clean. But just in case make a nandroid backup with CWM and backup data with an app,if you can't install from market google for it...I think titanium backup would be perfect for this job i think the free version can do the job.Good luck!

Thanks guys, I think I'll just flash an GB based rom. He wanted to avoid having to reset the phone (even with the backup it takes some time to restore everything as it was before) but there doesn't seem to be any other solution. I remember that when I had the Xperia Ray I used a rom that was the same as Gingerbread on Xperia S and had no bugs whatsoever, is there something similar for Arc? And can I flash Arc roms on the Arc S no problem?

Most (if not all) ROMs are built for Arc and Arc S both, they will work on both as well.
There are some GB ROMs available, most known now is probably Gin2KitKat (using it myself), but look in the Development section to find more.
