i noticed better performance when i used ext4converter for system data and cache...

good question, bro.my opinion is that brings nothing.i have testet it many times with different methods and for me it brings nothing,it was for me same like with ext2(my opinion is thats a myth) but ext2 is more stable on our little phone,i only use ext2 on my three devices and its still the best for me,the other thing is that our phone dont use real journaling and somethings like that,so its useless, many users say thats faster with ext4,but i never have see any speedincrease,so use good kernel+tweaks like adrenaline,kurotweaks....etc,still better.Note, thats only my opinion, just test it and than u have better expierence.

Maybe you are referring with your 2nd partition, i think the OP is referring about converting your system, data and cache into ext4 which will give more speed to our little y, originally our little y's system, data and cache is in rfs format correct me if i am wrong.
Let's also note that your kernel must support ext4 if your going to convert yours and you can't restore backups from rfs system, it will miss your little y but odin is there to rescue you

i know about it bro, haha.thats what i mean in the main!!!!

oppps my bad  anyway i think it does speed up a little bit because i have tried it several time thought you can't really tell how much it improves in terms of speed. trying will do no harm if you just know what to do :good:

[REQ] CM6.1 with Data2ext

Hi all,
I have noticed a lot of sense roms getting the love with data2ext and I was wondering if anyone could cook a CM6.1 rom with it already set up.
I'm very noobish with stuff like this so I don't want to mess it up setting it up and I'm sure many others would appreciate this too.
Could I also suggest detailed instructions on how to achieve this too?
With so many different posts about data2ext it gets confusing pinpointing what people think is best. Should we use FAT32 or Ext 2/3/4?
I think it should be cooked using ext2/3/4 as that's what most people use that already use a2sd so would mean we wouldn't have to partition our cards again.
I think it would help us noobs

Two things:
1. It's a .zip flash. Since you already know how to flash ROMs, it's not that hard, is it?
2. The tech is not stable, so any dev worth his coffee/alcohol/salt won't include it in his build.
Thanks for the attitude. It's people just like you that this site needs.

i agree with both of you on the attitude. the search works well although sometimes search alone doesnt help as good as user feedback. in this case ive been searching for data2ext because ive been using the a2sd on my sig except i like trying new things. i came accross what your looking for i think. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864174
scroll down and it seems like someone made a cm6.1+data2ext. i think that is what your asking. just thought id post.

[Q] advice? seems like my phone is getting more unstable

What's up everyone! just needed some advice if you don't mind. lately my phone's been freezing randomly, and it seems like my battery life has been getting crappier..
was wondering if I should just Odin back to stock and re-flash everything, do you think that would cure my ills?
I started with my first ROM -- srf1.1.0 and loved it... tried the vision kernel 1.1, tried genocide 1.0... LOVED vision 1.2 but went back to 1.1 because ppl started getting bricks..
i don't know if it's data corruption (have journalling off), or if it's like artifacts from vision kernel 1.2 (it didn't give me any problems, honestly my fav kernel with insane battery life it seemed)
yesterday i restored a back up that was pre-ext4.. and it when that rebooted i had the "android" flashing over the original sprint bootup animation, so i rebooted and got thrown into a boot loop. pulled battery, booted into cwm and restored into a more recent backup that was post-ext4 and things seem to be fine.. except i've gotten maybe two random freezes since.
so yea, do you think Odin to stock and reflashing srf will bring me back to bliss, or.. am i screwed, or somewhere in between? i've read as much as i could but i know i'm a newb, so i'm grateful for any wisdom y'all can throw my way. THANKS!

Yes, it will. You did a number on your data, so it's little wonder things weren't working well for you. If you get freezes, use VisionKernel 1.1 or Genocide.

thanks k0nane.. just finished doing all that -- phew, just leveled up my experience... now i can add "knows how to use odin" to the resume lol
I recommend trying Twilight Zone kernel 1.0.4... Thats the one I have had the best luck with, nothing against the other 2 kOnane mentioned, just my opinion.

Most important while figuring out which is best, enable file system journaling by doing a cwm backup and restore right after the clean build. This will help the more unstable phenon from recurring in the future.

update: so last night i ODIN'd back to EB13, ODIN'd the EC05 modem, and reflashed SRF1.1.0 and things were great... until i flashed fugutweaks (it seemed like that was the culprit).. then i started getting lots of FCs for gmail mail calendar and google framework...
wiped data/cache/dalvik x3 in cwm and reflashed SRF1.1.0 and things have been good.
can someone confirm this point? --> i think i've learned not to do more than one thing in cwm at a time. like if i fix permissions, then i should reboot before flashing the impaled keyboard tweak, etc.. is that correct? i think i do remember getting lazy before and doing two things in cwm before rebooting, or something like that.
i also think i learned that i can't just replace bootanimation.zip in the SRF1.1.0 .zip file with a different one -- is that because the zip is "signed"?
all in all... i thank all of you guys here -- i'm learning lots and i'm grateful that i have knowledgeable peeps to turn to when i've done something i wasn't smart enough to realize was dumb =)

Journaling shortens the life of your phone. More writes = faster nand corruption.
by as much as ext4 vs rfs... which would equate to a few days shorter life over the lifespan of your phone.. all the backup restores, and odin flashes more than make up for the journal writes anyway...

I know I had an ssd on a netbook and thought the same. If you are talking the difference of 30 years on the storage v s 100 years...I personally don't care about that as nobody will ev en recal the epic on that time. I think the life shortening thin is negligable due to the use expectancy of the phone.

[Q] Low memory space on HTC Desire

I've just made a fresh install of android 2.3.3 but the phone keeps saying I have low memory (<20MB) on it. I've used app2sd to place ALL of the apps on the SD but no help still. I've tried some forums allready but I still have no idea how to fix this. Sometimes it can't even open my sms as it says the problem again is memory low.
If anyone can redirect me to some page or forum where this is resolved, or help me solve the problem.
Really sorry for taking your time if the solution is easier to find on google than I thought but I had no luck finding it.
Thanks in advance.
Other info: s-off-ed, android installed from http://htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads , for any other info just ask.
Also SD is 4gb.
With app2sd you will be able to move apps to SD (FAT32-partition) if the developer of the app included this feature. So I recommend to partiton your SD card with a FAT32 and an EXT4-partition with at least 1 GB (partition either with GParted or your recovery, if it supports it) and flash an A2SD+ or a DATA2SD-script via recovery.

I agree Sebs Runny Mede 4.0.2.SE - super fast and stable but only if you use have CM7/R2 with A2SDSX. I have my ext 4 partition set to 1.5 GB and after install show 1 GB of internal memory for APPS. - WOW !
Thanks but I'm really keen on keeping this version of android on. I was actually wondering what could be causing this problem of low memory space as there is almost no apps on the device (I've moved everything to SD).
Could my problem be that I haven't formatted the device while I was reinstalling android or something????
So how can I solve the problem within this OS?
I can't believe that the internal disk is full when I have nothing on it. Could sms and e-mail really take that much space as I see only those two could be making the problem.
My phone says that there is 137mb used and 11free since I've installed the new OS. I thought the internal drive should be larger than that.
Really if there is no other way of solving this I might be willing to install the supernova but I'm really hoping there's some easier way.

Yep, there is an easier way: Seb's Runnymede AIO 4.0.3
Ok, seriously: Rooting and flashing is not that hard and worth the effort - but I would highly recommend Seb's Runnymede over Supernova, too, as it's way more smooth than Supernova, which was extremely laggy - at least on my Desire.
Greets, Magpie
P.S.: Your SD card should be at least Class 6 (and max. 16 GB).

But you could at least try - or tell my Desire about these wonderful threads, which will make it run faster. And these threads, which will void my own experiences, the ones, I've seen with my non enlightened eyes ... at least they are mine.
Greets, Magpie - just own experiences count
P.S.: You may have heard already that there are a couple of different hardware combinations out there. And perhaps my Desire is on the slow side and probably my combination of phone and card may not be the fastest around, but, nevertheless, a phone/card, being on the laggy side, is an even better meter for the performance of a ROM than a phone/card which is fast anyway and will run at lightspeed with even a croppy ROM.

Gingerbread vs Ice Cream Sandwich

We obviously know Gingerbread is Rock stable then ICS. I am currently planning on going back to Gingerbread WITHOUT leaving behind any ICS feature like the Multitasking feature or the Apollo Music app. Is there any possible ways to do it?
First of all , you should go to recovery mode (clockworkmod) and go to mounts and format ( /cache /data /system) and reboot the phone ,
when it shuts down press power+vol down to get to the download mode
and then you do a regular software via Odin .. here is the link of how to software your Galaxy Wonder!!!

for the firmware go to sammobile.com and choose the galaxy w (you should sign there ... )

Sorry to tell but I didn´t Honestly Gingerbread was really unstable for me. Rebootet almost everytime I took a look at my SGW.
No, not really that bad but sponatnious reboots occured sometimes whereas CM9 ran rock solid even in Alpha stage. This for months without turning the device off and it´s performance didn´t decrase like GB when it was already running for 2 or 3 days.
Another disadvantage in using GB is not being able to Greenify your Apps and and the worse memory management and thus all your apps like facebook running all the time in the background till you kill them manually.
But to answer your question, no you can´t exept you are a really skilled Dev who will rewrite all the code. But in this case you also could develop a completely new ROM or simply port Ubuntu Touch, Apples IOS or the Firefox OS within 5 minutes on this device.

stock gb is rock solid.
99% bug free (it means all its functions on the phone r working),
1% human bug (screw up the phone n blame it).
new jb/ics kernel/software r not 100% backwards compatible due to old hw becoz lag of newly design functions.
most universe scripts in xda r generally for other hp.
lucky scripts did no harm, becoz most scripts written on non existence parameters on sgw.
if they do hits on some parameters, it likely will brick ur hp or do nothing becoz already at its optimal.
so far, i've scan many scripts n found tat they r completely no use except for two (zip_init and adrenoboost v0.3) r useful.
stock gb rom r optimized, fine tune vm if u know wat to do. :good:

Sorry but that´s another nonsense. Never kernels, software or firmware not compatible with older hardware just because the older hardware might be to slow and therefore lagging?
Sorry to tell but this is bull$hit and contradictory. It´s the other way around. In newer software, be it kernel, rom or whatever, the developers take care to support older hardware, but can´t do this in older software which is outdated and not developed further and often also missing drivers for the newer hardware.
They can also fix bugs which were made in older software (kernels, firmware and apps) and the timeline is going forward due to it´s physical rules, not backwards. There were also no Aliens or machines who developed GB in the past but humans working for Google, who lerned further by knowing the issues they have made in the past to make it better in the future.
ICS and JB is the further developement of GB and the developers behind this newer ROMs are still the same humans. Just more clever now then they where while developing GB
Between a newer ROM just lagging and an older ROM randomly rebooting there is a huge difference.
So stop spreading such nonsense where you contradict yourself, else I will suggest you to use the oldest and "most bugfree way" (as a corollary of your statements) to comunicate by using carrier pigeons.

I´m not confused. It´s more you are confused because you obviously have no clue what you are talking about, nor why there is no kernel update for GB and even what´s the difference between 2.3.6 and 2.3.7.
And just by the way. The latest GB kernel for the SGW is 2.6.35 but not 2.3.6.
And since you even don´t know what update I´m talking about, I suggest you to flash the very first GB ROM the SGW was released with. I bet it will be better than the current one you are using

@ramiab8,if you think an unofficial rom is better than the firmware lg provided, thrn why do you have these issues? There are so many things that could go wrong on cm/pa/aosp/aokp roms... and you have no idea what are you talking about. Could you tell me how does cm "let behind stock so bad?" For bigger results in benchmarks?who gives a crap about tests?I tried all custom roms out there, didn't missed one,but in the end i got back to stock. Why?well, for all lg features, for a stable firmware that don't crash on me when i least expect. True,it's a modded stock, but it's way better than any aosp. I play alot of games,i never encountered the slightest issues so far.

Indeed LG did a very good job in terms of gaming performance on android 4.1. Nevertheless it can be even better. I have never had those problems on CM10.2 nor on CM11. All mentioned games are running lagless, without reducing my display-brightness
maybe you can try again with another kernel?

@ramiab8,if you think an unofficial rom is better than the firmware lg provided, thrn why do you have these issues? Your post should be ignored from start, because no one will support you for a custom rom. Dear kimitza i thing that you don't know what you are talking about at all !!!! first everyone can have issues in original ROM and non stock ROM (you never heard about that !!!!) nothing can be complete be I SAID more better that is totally different !!! i thing you have no idea about what i am saying !!! and even you are talking about benchmarks !!! i didn't say any word about benchmark!!! even i didn't trust them i only trust the real use (did you ever heard about real using or not !!!) i am very hard user i find many disappointing in using the stock and these things i didn't find them in CM !!! (before i was thing like you but after test i found that is wrong) maybe as normal user you can find stock more better for you !!! if you are happy in LG features i find them like baby features!!! at the end i asked question but you are not able to answer me !!! if you thing that what i say not right for you don't answer me at all and don't try to give me lesson in something i know more better then many others !!!
Boing! Dude try latest version of Vanir 4.3.1. Thinks its the best performing aosp rom for our phone. And they're still updating, not like cm. MC4 awesome, A8 on highest settings also really good.
why did you bought a branded phone?to flash aosp based rom on it?why didn't you bought a nexus?it has vanilla on it,no "baby features". Then you wouldn't complain of laggy games on custom roms.I see what kind of power user you are ...I just don't understand how could someone complain about anything on a custom rom, without realising it's not the phone,it's the software with issues.Again, a power user would know the differences,but....what do i know?i'm a total newbie.

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh you don't hear that many custom ROM developers ask about any issues even in games i see that you know well !!! i will let you told somebody else about your fantastic ideas, but for me i need answer from someone who really know what he said !!! not just talking words without meanings at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks cyraxx84 i will see that one ,,,
ok...i give up...you are right...a custom rom will always be better than stock...i respect the devs for their work, i supported the asylum project(this i'm very fond of,but i supported many more) both here and galaxy note, even donate. But i'm realistic. I realize a code made from scraps will never be better than the official one. simple as that. Look more into it mr "power user" and learn how things work before making affirmations. Oh,and the font you used,yea...very mature .anyway...case closed...
