Dropped my phone on asphalt today and got a big hairline crack across the screen . (Attached pics)
It really hurts cause i always baby this phone and just the rush to get to work and in my car, completely missed my pocket.
The screen is still responsive to touch and seems to be working normal thank god the lcd screen wasnt damaged and the digitizer didn't shatter.
Got a few questions t
1) just wanted to clarify that the digitizer lies ontop the LCD screen?
2) and that is all that needs replacing?(from damage seen in the pics)
3) also mine is branded just HTC(no carrier, so it's international GSM version?)
4) would it matter if i bought a replacement digitizer meant for the at&t version or not?
5) should be getting a one x that had some water damage and is no longer working. would the digitizer from this phone be a viable option for me to use as a replacement or should i just order the part online.( I really want it replaced fast and if i have to order the replacement it will take about a week to 2 weeks to arrive in my country
so apparently i can't attach any urls until i make 10 posts or i'd show u guys the part i wanted to order but its basically just a screen digitizer from ebay with tools needed for about $17.86.(is that cheap, good or expensive price considering the item + tools)
can you guys please search for it on ebay?the title of the post/part is Touch Screen Digitizer Glass Lens Replacement For HTC One X S720 + Free Tools
the link above is the item i'm looking to order for replacement. is it the right part i'm looking at?and would that be all i need or is there anything else i should add?also quality wise would it be top pick or are there any better options available?
Attached some pics also.Advice would be greatly appreciated.
You are unlikely to be able to separate the digitizer and lcd without damaging the LCD.
A water damaged phone may have a water damaged screen.
Search one of the other broken screen threads for more information.
I've replaced several screens on captivate.easiest way is get replacement(LCD+digetizer) from ebay,Google procedure.watch or read as many times as needed to feel confident to take apart phone.the hardest part is seperating LCD from phone(they use adhesive to secure LCD to phone).I used razor to carefully cut adhesive.
Most components are plug&play.just follow guide completely,u should be fine.
My LCD was $85 on ebay.good luck.

I cracked my screen on my touch pro 2 last night and my touch screen still works fine, I just have 2 long cracks from the right of the screen to the left. what is it I need to replace to have my pretty touch pro 2 again?
I'm on Verizon and I don't have insurance so that's out of the question.
I've added some pictures of my screen.
that hella sucks. Give this place a try given that you know someone that can install it. When I broke the screen on my Shadow, I was able to take it down to a cell phone repair shop and they took care of the ordering of the screen and instillation. If you want to get an idea of the prices you can check the following websites. Check your model number first to ensure proper fit. http://zlectronic.com/product/LCD-Display-Screen-+-Tools-For-HTC-Touch-Pro-2-T7373. For more options try the following: http://www.cellulardr.com/search.php?nobox=&scat=&stext=screen&stype=&sprice=&sman=7&pg=2 Best of luck
I was thinking about just doing it myself, I've never done anything like that before but I figured I'd give it a shot.
thanks for the sites.
If you are planning to make it yourself go to the Wiki and over there you´ll find a disassembly manual for Rhodium.
Good luck,
IS the Digitizer and lcd glued together? or are they seperate?
Because I had a touch pro (fuze) and the lcd and digitizer are glues together and I wasn't able to seperate them without distroying the lcd.
Had to order both digitizer and lcd.
you may want to open it up and see if there glued together that way you what to order.
I didn't have opened mine yet, but there was a discussion here and they saying it's pretty well glued. you'll need a hot air gun, good hairdryer or/and a very good skills with razor blade
you can't order just the broken glass. you didn't say if lcd is working too, but if yes, you may try to just remove the broken glass. it would probably be polarizer and it may work without it, with not as bright picture on sunny day.. may..
check ebay, in case, better order combo (touch+lcd) because there seems to be some optical compatibility issues.
Yep, I broke my galaxy. Screen and touch sensor works awesome, but screen is fully shattered. Searching at the forum gave me one positive result: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23644712&postcount=6
But i cant find any guide anywhere. If someone know how to make this kind of operation please leave your post or guide, it would be great. Thanks in advance!

the above is for the digitizer w/glass - the below is for glass ONLY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfuTVjI_Wao
It is very risky to replace the glass only. Doing it this way increases the risk of damaging the AMOLED panel, either by overheating it or scratched/cracked by the broken glass. I've explained it before; if you want to replace the glass only, you'll need to separate the screen assembly from the frame first, then separate the glass from the AMOLED panel. You might end up breaking the panel anyway, so might as well replace the whole thing. But you can give it a go. It should be possible to remove the glass while keeping the AMOLED panel in the frame, because the panel itself is very fragile.
I replaced only the glass on mine.

Hi. This is my story about SUCCESSFULLY replacing only the glass of s2.
Background, you can skip this:
Few months ago I broken the glass of my beloved S2 in an accident, but because I had a screen protector the pieces of glass were kept together and the phone was 100% usable, only the image was distorted because of broken glass.
So I searched the available options: replace the whole display for a price of more than 100euro. Buy a defect s2 with good screen, but didn't found any lower than the previous price.
I had a previous experience with an Ipod Touch with the same problem, when I ordered the glass from ebay and went to a local phone repair shop that destroyed the Ipod. It was usable before going to that shop.
So I decided to give it a try and try to change it myself. I'm a programmer with what can be called poor electronic and hardware skills. So if I was able to do it, and you were able to find this post, you can replace it too. But after seeing some videos I had more confidence on my skills than of those repair specialists that were not careful with the other device.
First I found a clip on youtube about why you CAN'T change only the glass on S2. But I found also the above video with a interesting method, but it required a Molybdenum string that I couldn't found at a good price. Actually I believe that the shipment to Romania made the price to high for the string.
After researching I found the SOLUTION: on a page or youtube clip about how to remove the broken glass. But I've lost the link. Anyway, the procedure was simple. I remember that the video was about replacing the glass on a Galaxy S3.
So I ordered the replacement glass and some adhesive (finally not used) from ebay.
After I got the replacement parts, I opened the phone, you can find somewhere online the instructions how to do it.
For removal I used a pack of plastic poker card. It's needed something to not be to hard to scratch the digitizer, but hard enough to remove the broken pieces of glass.
I started removing the pieces around the Home button to get a feel of the process, and proceeded to remove all the pieces of glass and glue. It took around 3 hours to finish it and 48 cards. You need to lift the broken pieces with great attention and patience. It's not a hard job, but it takes time. Maybe with a hot gun is easier to remove, but when I received the replacement I was anxious to start and did not wait to procure one. During the whole process I kept the phone started to be sure that I did not broke the screen. In case of possible breakage or of a bad scratch I thought that I don't need to continue the procedure. Maybe is not recommended to keep it running, but it gave me a positive feedback that everything is ok.
After removing all the pieces of glass and glue I was able to see some fine scratches with a black background. I used some dust removing solution and then I attached the new glass. I only fitted the new glass on the place and I believe there were some glue left on edges that keep it in place because I did not added any other glue and it did not moved until now. With the new glass the scratches from the digitizer are not visible at all. And the phone works as new, the touchscreen was not damaged at all.
So it's completely possible to replace it.
Before fitting the new glass the cleaned touchscreen was like the touchscreen on S4: it was only needed to hoover with a finger at some distance above, but not touching . I remember that the replacement of my glass was before the release of S4 and when I found about this feature I knew that I already had something like this on my S2.
I don't remember having any other difficulties during the replacement except the removal of broken glasses. And I used this phone continuously without problems since.
Only last night the phone stopped charging and I had to replace the charging port, flex ribbon; but it was not related to glass replacement.
I don't remember if it was needed to open the phone for glass replacement because I opened it when it broke to inspect it and I opened it also few time since then for various tasks.
The total price of replacement parts was below 10$, with glass, screen protector and adhesive ordered from ebay. I ordered also a case to protect the edges for future dropping and was a smart investment. The pack of cards I had from poker set, but It shouldn't be so expensive.
Success with your replacement.

I now back to my desire z after the galaxy screen is toast. JUST the heating alone destroyed it. ... Now gonna buy the LCD/screen assembly and do it right.

if you are not a technician, I suggest you give it to someone REALLY capable of, what do you mean it is not at all easy and the risk of doing damage is very high.
Otherwise follow the advice that was given to you, buy the whole block
Necro thread, but I agree, it is not worth doing so. In order to be done properly, you need to have a very thin wire to separate the two pieces. Not something i would do myself. Much better to replace the whole assembly instead.

Long story short, I have an att HOX with a broken screen that I purchased from eBay for cheap in addition to the global HOX that I am using to write this. The LCD was fine, just the glass was broken. After waiting for a replacement to ship from China, I waded into the intertubes and found several tutorials on screen repair for the HOX. After several infuriating hours I discovered something that none of the tutorials mention. The adhesive that bonds the LCD to the digitizer is very strong stuff and even with the liberal application of a decent heat gun, you stand a good chance of breaking the LCD while trying to separate it from the digitizer.
Your best bet is to purchase the display assembly and replace the entire thing. If you do decide to try and replace only the digitizer, you will need patience, lots of time(2 hours+), and some luck. Follow the directions but instead of trying to separate the two pieces in one go like they show in the tutorial, work your way in about a quarter inch or less at a time. Use the heat gun right next to where you plan to separate the LCD and then slowly work around from there. The longer it takes, the better. Just be careful not to overheat the LCD. A good rule of thumb is that if it is too hot to hold in your bare hand, you used too much heat.

If you try to only replace the digitizer.....you're gonna have a bad time
Hey I was wondering how could I know if I need to replace the digitilizer, the LCD or both? The touch screen seems to be working (it responds as usual) the issue is that the glass is broken. The thing is that the difference is price is quite big between digitilizer and both.
Thanks!
They're fused together and almost impossible to separate without causing damage. You'll have to replace the whole LCD/digitizer assembly
If you manage to separate them (i don't recommend) then you can get the cheap digitizer. You will need a hair dryer to melt the glue between them.
I didn't try this or will try it but this method is very popular for iphones.

I've spent 6 months trying to get a proper One X screen (complete unit, LCD+Digitizer). Not one of the 7-8 screens I have tried has had the digitizer fully bonded to the LCD. Many of the replacements had defective LCDs too (contrast issues, bad backlights etc).
When I got my One X back in April (had it for a whole week before a drop from pocket height smashed the screen!), I recall that there was no gap at all between the LCD and digitizer, across the whole screen area - they were bonded completely - something proven beyond doubt when a repair company had a go at getting the broken digitizer off the LCD underneath.
Every replacement screen I have tried has had a distinct gap - the LCD and digitizer are bonded but ONLY along the edges, not across the screen surfaces. I cannot see a way they could be bonded across the entire surface either, as the gap seems to be there because the digitizer unit holds the gorilla glass approximately 1mm above the LCD surface. Even if you could bond them, it wouldn't go right to the edges.
So now I have a flawless LCD, but an air gap. Pressing on the screen (eg, when checking for the Wi-Fi hardware issue), results in a sort of "reverse bubble" - a dark area where the two surfaces come into contact. That dark area is actually how the entire screen should look, and the air gap makes the display poor in direct sunlight.
Now I could put up with it, but the Ballistic case I have (to prevent more shattered screens) forces the digitizer into contact with the LCD in the middle of the screen which looks rubbish.
Does anyone know of a source of replacement screens that aren't the crappy sort I've been getting? Or am I wrong about the air gap? I'm convinced the ones on ebay are ALL these shoddy hand-made efforts with air gaps.
In case anyone wondered - I did ask HTC about a repair, but as you may know, they wanted a ransom fee if I didn't like their quote after posting my phone to them. O2 gave a free quote, but wanted £300! Their repair centre refused to just replace the screen, and insisted on replacing the perfectly functioning mainboard too.
£300 ? thats more than the phone's price, it shouldn't cost more than £100 if they wanted to rip you

No it's not - the phone is £380 on Amazon right now (it was £400+ but the One X+ release has devalued it more quickly).
If you'd like to provide a link to somewhere offering a complete new screen for £100 or less, I would be interested. Most companies in the UK are offering replacement screens for £150 or so, fitted.
Thank you all, today I went to a local store and they changed both LCD and Digitilizer for $120 (Dollars), they kept my LCD (which was working). I think it went way cheaper than expected

Thanks - I also just found that over in the other thread in the General section. Finally I might have my One X back!
Well, today was a say day for me, for I dropped my HOX on some concrete and shattered the glass, phone still works and lcd isn't damaged... but I was wondering if theres anyone here who knows a decent repair centers in the UK, i've seen this http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/2511...ixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla&crdt=0 and i'm pretty sure thats all I need... Perhsps HTC can sell us an original part, we could also ask for s one x+ battery. I don't know how much the one x digitisee and glass replacement would cost. The whole svren inc LCD is 160 IIRC so probably less than 100?
I also.have a damaged screen. My concern is whether the. Parts are really originals as claimed, be cause I'd like a real gorilla glass panel. Also, how do I reconnect the connectors I have to unplug to get the screen . Presumably it's obvious otherwise it would have been mentioned in repair guides.
HTC may repair and sell originals, how much for I don't know.
My LCD appears fine usually, but sometimes there is a yellow tint to some of the screen, presumably related to epoxy glue. Also I was pressing down on the Screen and now one of the cracks appear slightly blue Around the edges, not sure if this will change if I replace.
Finally I saw a story on xdA I think of a guy who Bricked his while trying to replace the screen.

From what I have seen in One X screen replacement videos and read in this and other forums the digitizer is not easily separable from the LCD. So most probably you'll have to replace the whole display assembly (i.e digitizer + LCD screen).
Nope
None of the replacement parts in this thread so far are close to genuine, and will be cheap crap.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320929331645?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
This is what a genuine replacement looks like, and costs. If it's under £100, forget it; it's crap. If it comes as separate parts, it's crap. The One X screen is bonded at the factory across the entire area of the screen - you will never get a good screen if you assemble it yourself, or even if a repair centre does it. You'll get an air gap between the LCD and digitizer, and therefore it will look awful in daylight.

Call up HTC. I've done some research, seems to agree with what is posted above.
I feel your pain.. I have a small crack on the side of my S3 screen. How bad is it? If its smalland on the side check out an overlay Luke by Spectre. They are about 4mm thick and are cut to cover the whole face of the screen
