Have you ever given Swype a whirl? I wasn't a fan of virtual keyboards either until I started using Swype. It came stock with my G2, would it come with the G2X too?
I have a G2 and love it, but I wish it didn't come with the keyboard, it adds a lot of bulk. If you could stand it, I'd say wait.
G2x is dual core, therefore slightly more future proof than the g2. If those are your only choices and you can deal without a hardware keyboard, go g2x. But you really need to play with both.

Dual core gives a bit of a performance boost. But the G2X is an LG phone, and therefore probably isn't going to see a lot of developer support. At least not anywhere on the order of HTC devices. Developer support and up-to-date ROMs is better future proofing then just a slightly faster CPU, IMO. LG phones are also pretty consistently underwhelming. Their phones are just not that good. If not for the dual network support of the G2X, I'd say G2 all the way.
i do know that g2x does come with swype preinstalled.
could i try out a g2, and if i dont like it, go to a g2x? and vice versa?

LG was underwhelming because they were mainly in the budget game before. Also, their software skills are at the script kiddie level. Unless you REALLY need a keyboard then I would say G2X or Optimus 3D. That extra screen real estate makes more of a difference than you would think.

meh, i dont care about screen real estate either. besides, lgs skin is going to be taken off, g2x is mostly stock, besides the obvious bloatware planted by tmobile.
if you have plans to root or any of that good stuff I say go for the LG

actually based off this video the G2x will NOT run stock android, as you can see at 1:40 it has samsungs touch UI on it... but earlier in the video you will also notice that the notification bars are changing.... for example look at :24 and then 1:03.... i honestly have no idea what it all means
G2X looks hella ugly. My vote goes to the G2.

Anyways i'd definitly go with the g2x or one of the upcomming 3d phones vs getting a G2 right now which i currently have. i also came from a G1 and im tellin ya, the keyboards not that important anymore. sometimes i feel slower flipping it and actually typing it then just a few taps or swipes, i dont have much to say while texting. and i dont email much from it. with 4" screen im sure the screens accuracy would do justice. The hardware should more than make up for most of what dev's usually work on. I already feel that way about the g2. In the G1 it's exciting because it can get so much improvement, you feel like your actually turning a piece of **** into a chocolate bar (just a metaphor i love the G1), while the G2 you already feel like your just turning your chocolate bar into a different brand, or your adding nuts. So why not just buy the richest chocolate it has the potential to taste the best. Just my 2 cents, you might think totally different or use your phone different.
I like my G2 but If I were buying now I'd probably get the G2X.
The G2 keyboard isn't that great (compared to the G1 keyboard anyways), thanks to that and the awesomeness of Swype I rarely use the physical keyboard.
Dual Core will give the G2X more life, it will still perform well 2 years from now on whatever version of Android is out then, the G2 may be getting pretty winded by this point.
It's true that right now LG phones haven't seen the developer support that HTC phones have, but I expect the newer, higher end Android phones will attract some attention and HTC's increasingly more restrictive security measures will curb developer interest there. Of course this is 90% speculation at this point.
Personally I am going to wait for htc to drop htc G3 or another android phone with a physical keyboard. I do not need any faster phone. Nor I play games. I just text a lot and browse webs.
I don't think saving few sec browsing apps and loading games worth 300 -400dollars so I am keeping the g2.

There was roughly 2 years between the release of the G1 and the G2, if following the same schedule that doesn't see the "G3" before fall 2012, if the AT&T merger does complete (which I think is likely because we have the best government money can buy) it's extremely unlikely that there will be new TMO phones coming out after that.

That makes no sense...why would they not have a follow up to a well liked phone? Not only do they have more customer but also the ability to offer more devices than any other carrier? Seems like good business to me

T-Mobile likely won't exist anymore (assuming the merger goes through) and AT&T will be working hard to bring every TMO customer into the AT&T fold. They will have very little motivation to sell a successor to a uniquely T-Mobile phone.
While I do expect AT&T to have a better selection of Android phones than they have historically that isn't a tremendously difficult bar to exceed.
Right now there are 12 Android phones (not counting tablets, color variations or unreleased devices like the G2x or Sidekick) for T-Mobile and 6 available for AT&T, no way they will have 18 or anywhere close to that post merger, I'd expect a selection that's better than AT&Ts but not as good as TMO (maybe 10 or so at any given time).
The only hope that we as consumers have is that now that AT&T has lost iPhone exclusivity that AT&T will dramatically change it's stance towards Android and embrace it instead of offering a crappy selection of gimped phones (the Atrix gives me some hope, for all that it too is gimped)
Even if AT&T does offer a phone called the "G3" it will more than likely be a mediocre phone with a crappy keyboard (think backflip).
Maybe if we are lucky TMO will have already invested enough into the G3 before the merge completes that AT&T decides to release it, after they block application installation of course.

I disagree on this outlook, I dont think AT&T would do that, it's just a really bad business move, why would you buy a business out if you are just trying to kill it, especially with verizon and sprint around. That is already the motive as a competitor. You buy the company because it has something valuable to you. The G series and mytouch is one of Tmobiles biggest branded phones and recieve lots of customers, im sure they would keep it that way. they'd probably just change the name of the phone.
and AT&T is not going to give up apple's iphone by choice. That would be a ridiculous move.

AT&T has already said that the main reason they are buying TMO is so they can use the wireless spectrum TMO currently uses for 3G and "4G" for their LTE buildout. Sure the customers are nice and AT&T will indeed make some efforts to keep those customers (churn is expensive) but I'm sure that unifying the brand will be a higher priority.
The G series isn't really notable apart from the G1 being the first Android phone to market. As for the MyTouch "brand", that one has always been a head scratcher is to it's reason to exist. I'll be nothing short of amazed it it continues post merger. I would not be surprised to see existing MyTouch devices receive token rebranding immediately following the merger close to kill off the MyTouch brand quickly.

Never said they would dump the iPhone, what I meant was that hopefully they will feel less compelled to intentionally cripple their android offerings as they have done in the past.
Came across this just now over at Engadget. I just felt my phone got really old real fast! The only thing that comforts me so far about it is that it's only released in Europe for now.

Yea I saw that too... so disappointing the way this phone gets treated. AT&T had minimal advertisment, where the Galaxy 2/Skyrocket is EVERYWHERE.
This phone almost feels DOA. Honestly I will be very shocked if AT&T ever releases ICS for the Nitro...

Guys, this is ridiculous. We are hearing about new LG phones with ICS, when their previous flagship is stuck with GB and no concrete plans for an upgrade. This is unacceptable, you just know they aren't actively doing **** to expedite the completion of ICS for the Nitro.
The Nitro is a half-baked product, but it could have been great had they released ICS early on. I blame both AT&T and LG for this failure. I think we need to motivate LG with some concerned emails, but I honestly don't even know if there are enough people in this forum to even make a difference.

I agree... I have ALWAYS bought HTC, and decided on Nitro over Vivid because of HD screen. Everything I read about the Nitro was its great on paper, but it's LG. Dummy me still went with LG. Like Charlie Brown going to kick the football knowing damn good and well Lucy is going to pull it away.
LG will let this rot on the vine, I know this. If the dev community doesn't pick up this phone will be dead in 6 months... and I will be GONE, and will go back to HTC.
LG has said they will update the LG Optimus LTE to ICS in Q2 2012. We'll be getting ICS either directly or by porting it from the Optimus LTE. It is more than possible to run the Optimus LTE ROM on our phones.

Wish I could say the same but I still have a good 22 months to go.
Easy does it now. I've got gripes just like everyone else, but our Nitro does NOT suck. Don't forget it's STILL one of the few 1280x720 HD screens out there and our dual-core 1.5GHz cpu is hardly a turd either.
This whole thing about how we could've waited just a little longer for the next big thing is ridiculous because not even 6 months ago the specs on our Nitro WAS the next big thing.
Crap, it has LG logo...
I'll pass.
It's just woefully slow, backed by LG, and full of an array of small problems. I guarantee the same exact phone shipped by Samsung or HTC would be much much better.

LOL, not quite true there. The only phone by HTC that has HD screen is the Rezound, and my coworker has it, and trust me, it lags even worse, expect in certain areas that I know for sure HTC makes it certain it runs smoothly (like the wake up screen). Samsung? Samsung doesn't even have an HD screen that competes with the pixel density of LG (not talking of resolutions here, since the note does have HD resolution but screen size is much bigger, thus reducing Pixel Density, and the Nexus runs on a crappy version of amoled, thus reducing energy footprint).
I posted those stories not with the intention of calling our phone crappy or that it will be obsolete in no time. I am sure that one way or another, we will get ICS, although it might not be months down the road. And I will never call this phone crappy, given that until now, about 3 months after it's release, there is yet to be a phone out there to match its power (besides the Nexus, which is a Giant search engine company's flagship phone) and once we get ICS, I am almost sure our phone will trump any other ones in its class.
Like kernelpanic said, we should get ICS somewhere in Q2 of this year, which is around the projected time that most new phones will be released carrying ICS in it. And if we are lucky, we might get either CM9 before that, or maybe a kind and great Dev to help us move further forward towards ICS with some interesting Roms or Kernels.
Speaking of CM9, did you all VOTE to get CM working on a port for our phone? If you haven't I say you should not be complaining cuz you are not doing your part to improve lol.

Hey, to me, you're as much a real dev as any other dev can be Despite your limitations, u gave us all hope with our phones hehe.
Def wont ne getting another LG but I can say I'm happy I opted for it when I did. Its the name of the game when you get a phone. New ones cone out that trump it in months. No bog deal really. I wish development teams could produce their own high quality devices to sell. Cyanogenmod making a phone would be sweet.
I dont think I ever said the phone sucked... it is LG that sucks. Their track record with phones is well established. I do love the screen, and LTE is faster than my home internet. It is a good phone, even better with Kernelpan1c rom's! I am just beginning to feel like this phone was nothing more than a stopgap to the Optimus 4x, and will soon be the neglicted middle child.
I also lay blame on AT&T who did NOTHING to promote this phone, nothing at all. Therefore sales will be down & 3rd party accessories will be minimal. The only saving grace may be Verizons version, at least they made commercials... although nothing like the Speilberg'esque Droid productions they put out regularly.
UPDATE - Just saw on AT&T the Nitro is now a $100 for new contracts. The Skyrocket is still $200!!! In 2 months it went from flagship to dead weight.
I bought the Nitro as an upgrade to my Samsung Infuse. I just wanted something different from Samsung. Yes Sammy screens are the best in my opinion and the Infuse is unbrickable. I've already bricked one Nitro. The HDMI output on the Nitro is so much better than my Infuse, thats a feature I use often. Developmet will come to this phone like it did to the Infuse and I'm thinking of getting my dev on for this phone if development slows down, but I'm new to that. The nitro seems to be LG's "middle child" like the samsung Infuse. Which is cool with me.

I don't know, from reviews of the Optimus G it sounds like they're really starting to turn around.
With stock Android, a more powerful SOC and more ram this is a no brainer - go for the Nexus.
I'm hoping to sell my HOX and put cash towards one myself if they aren't too expensive.

From my previous experience with LG (O3D) I would never go for a LG Nexus... They make good phones, but the commitment to the costumer is close to zero. Never buying LG again!
The O3D was an awsome phone, with tons of potencial that was completely wasted by LG. And the tech support is the worst I've ever experienced in any brand to date (Have had Nokia, HTC and LG).
So even if they made the best phone ever, you would know that if the slightest thing goes wrong with it, you are on your own...
P.S. At least here in Portugal (have no experience with costumer support in other countries)
But LG is not responsible for software support of LG nexus...Google is. They are just making the hardware which in this case after reading couple of reviews is pretty good.
Wait for the first reviews and make the decision. 5 more days it's not a long wait.

It's a Nexus. If you buy it from the Play Store you'll be dealing with Google.
You best choice is to wait. At this point nothing about the next nexus is confirmed, once that happens you can make an informed decision.

I know. I thought this phone will be picked up by alot of people, especially when it was going for $100 at best buy with these specs. But alot of people stay away from LG phones. I almost did the same thing.
Its because LG has always been really bad with their stuff. like the LG optimus S for example and the LG Viper was the biggest fail ever. People chose samsung and HTC because they are reliable phones and have been for the last few years. As for me im still a Samsung guy Just simply Because Samsung phones have treated me really nicely. I like the LGOG though because it is blazing fast. even a little faster than my note 2. but when it comes to multimedia etc. the note 2 kills the LG in almost every way. and LG did kind of copy samsung in some ways too. the UI and gestures etc. but i like them all! lol. i only bought the optimus G cause the nexus 4 didnt come to sprint and the LGOG is the Nexus 4 minus the Jellybean and Pure aosp. but overall The LGOG is a Top of the line phone hands down for sure.. and does need more love from devs lol
What's so crazy is that this is hands down the best phone out there next to the nexus 4 (same phone) the thing is, no one knows about it. People automatically think LG is crap because they don't know about it. They know all about the Samsung Galaxy phones because TV tells you that its the best thing out and you have to have it. I guarantee you that there are only a few Galaxy users who can actually tell you why they have that phone let alone what's under the hood. This phone will kill any phone out right now and people just don't get it because its not marketed correctly. I mean you even if it was how many people would get excited because it had quad core processor? People ( stupid people) would be like 13MP camera hells yea! . When I first got this thing all the guys at work talked so much crap about it being LG. They all have iPhone 5's (phones for noobs) and all I did was turn on all 4 of my cores. Yep, market-ing = market share. I personally just think that LG doesn't care too much about their mobile division, especially when they're battling up hill against Samsung and Apple. They're probably OK with making a small profit off of mobile while making their real money off of TVs and appliances.
Not to hate on the LGOG, but when I owned the phone for a few weeks I felt the phone had some shortcomings. Hated the LTE connectivity or lack there of. The speaker is by far the worst speaker I've ever heard on a smart phone. The 13 megapixel camera is lacking. LG's iOS or what ever its called lacks features and widgets.

They have yet to say anything again about my OG!

The lgog is a good android phone. But it's not the best. This phone still needs a lot of work on the ui and bloat. The only thing actually good about this is the res and the s4pro backed up with 2gigs of ram. If it had a dual core like the s3 I wouldn't even bother with it lol. It'll just be like the LG viper.... That phone was a waste of my cash. But at least LG made this phone to cover their epic fail on the viper.

One thing I don't like this phone is touch screen acts like crazy while charging. It seems like it is hardware related issue....

Seen that hundreds of time on many phones. Try a different charger, or two. A defective/cheap charger will tend to have a lot of "noise" and cause touchscreen issues. I have two chargers right now that make the touchscreen unusable but have five or six that give me no issue.
Hardwares only as good as its software and unfortunately LG has sh!t software. I have an OG for work and forwarded everything on it to my personal line(note 2) the OG sits on the desk collecting dust cuz its just unimpressive and a pain to try and use the little screen. After having my note 2 every other phone I pick up feels like my palm just swallowed it and typing is so awkward I get frustrated and give up. Small phone + big hands = :banghead: especially after having a phone that actually feels comfortable in them. The Optimus G came blazing out of the gate, then tripped on its lackluster software and crap support to land right on its pretty face and stay there for the rest of the race. By the time (if) lg ever gets ths software up to par with the rest of the Android world the OG will be headed for an EOL and its replacement will already be en queue.

Compared to my note 2 yes all other phones feel tiny now, especially since im much larger than average at 6'7" my gs3, optimus g, og evo, mopho all feel small, don't even get me started on iphone I cant even hold the 4s unless its in landscape. When I try to use smaller screen phones now I get serious hand cramps trying to type 2 handed, it was never like that til I got used to the note2 now it's awkward as hell. It would take me weeks to get used to using a "normal" sized phone again. It's not so much the size in numerical value as it is the dimensions are narrow and tall. When I put my OG next to my note the note screen is about as wide as 3/4 of the height of the OG screen and the OG is about half as wide as my note in portrait, maybe a 5/8s as wide. Trust me when I tell you its awkward going from 5.5" to >5". It doesn't seem like it would be a huge difference on paper but IRL it seems like feet instead of inches in my big ass hands. It just seems like a kids toy now. I guess I'm just spoiled now.

I would like to add that for the entire month of February I can honestly say the optimus G was the only phone I was selling. If that's not enough then out of the entire district I placed 7th in sales out of 200ish. If a customer was willing to through down 200 on a phone then I made sure they got the optimus G! I sold 1 iPhone 5 but it doesn't count because they later exchanged for the optimus G. I have talked to other store employees about pushing this phone as much as they could and I'm happy/sad to announce that the optimus G is now on back order "due to recent unexpected high sales"

Please don't diss a phone just because your hands are larger than the average human.. Its a great phone. Newer hardware than the note 2 and stock software doesn't count. Of course you know that or you wouldn't be here on xda.
Please if your going complain about a phone don't bring your unusually large hands into this. It doesn't make for a valid argument. Its a personal defect. You knew this before buying the optimus g. Don't understand why you would waste money on a phone that you KNEW you couldn't use...
Anyway.. On a positive note.. Good kush. Anyone else want to join I'm in Washington

I didn't buy the optimus g I was pawned off on me by my boss. I wouldn't waste my money on any LG device, not after every single mobile phone I've had from thek was complete crap due to their shotty software. Never understood why a company would put crap software on a highend phone, since the hardware can't perform to its potential. Go play with a nexus 4 and and optimus g at the same time, you'll hate lg for putting that crapware on the OG. It's pretty funny you think having big hands is a personal defect, you must be a hobbit with small man syndrome. It wouldn't matter if the OG was as big as my note anyways I still wouldn't waste my money on it. Hell I got it free and I dont even use it I just forwarded all my calls and emails to my note. And you would have never sold me an OG even at gunpoint, I would have laughed in your face. It's not my fault LG has their priorities backasswards and can't build decent software to save their life. Like I said what good is the best hardware if the software doesn't work right? It's like buying a ferrari and putting a prius engine in it, pointless. Now go back to your LG loving and leave the realists to reality, LG dropped the ball yet again by putting busted software and crap support on what could have been a great device.

The software has worked great more me and several others who have used it. Besides the ICS messenger. They fixed that issue with the jellybean update. I've had and have seen more issued with the s3 and note 2 software than I have with the OG.. But then again I work at a repair center. So I see the worst out of every phone on a daily basis. And believe me.. Samsung is just as bad. Its the UI thing. Of course the nexus 4 will perform better. Its pure android. None of the bloat to bog it down. Lg had it rough with there past devices but the OG is a big step. With each update getting better and better. Most are still running ICS. do you remember how the s3 ran on ICS? Or even worse the s2.. It was so difficult to sell the phone because of how ****ty the touchwiz worked on ICS. I'm assuming its the same with the OG. Wait for jellybean to finish rolling out then update your argument.

Only issue ive ever had with samsung was that crappy intercept. My s2, s3 and note 2 have never had any issues with the software. At least not like the OG biggest issue I have with that stupid thing is it dialing the contact instead of sending the text, drives me nuts especially when im trying to avoid calling someone via text only to have the stupid phone call em for me. LG never updates their devices on time, I mean seriously their flagship device is still on 4.0.4 for the most part, entirely til this week. They will do What they always do push out halfassed unfinished updates then after a year or 18 months drop support and EOL the device. HTC and LG have serious support issues and issues with allowing the end user control through locked bootloaders and threats of legal action for hosting or modifying their stock crapware. Not to mention they take forever to release source, which is what im waiting for now so I can compile my rom for the OG and get it the hell off of LGs teat. Then maybe I'll actually do something with it besides stuff it in a corner of my desk to hold my paperwork down while it basically works as my secretary and forwards me my calls.

What is Optimus Prime's full name?
Optimus G. Prime
Samsung has terrible build quality and awful viewing angles and color reproduction. Depending on your angle, white can look blue, yellow, pink, or greenish.

LG G2, the latest flagship Android-based smartphone from South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics, is said to be underperforming on the market, falling far behind expectations.
According to the latest reports on the matter, LG has managed to sell only around 600,000 G2 units during the handset’s first four months of availability in its homeland market.
Internationally, the device is selling slowly as well, with less than 2.3 million units said to have been shipped, despite the fact that LG actually aimed at selling over 3 million devices, info coming from Asia Today unveils.
Made official back in summer, the LG G2 landed on shelves with a large 5.2-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, while being powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.Furthermore, the Android-based device features a 13-megapixel camera on the back with support for full HD video recording, as well as a front camera for making video calls.
The high-end smartphone also packs 2GB of RAM inside, the usual set of connectivity options and sensors, and Google’s Android Jelly Bean operating system loaded on top.The handset comes with the power and volume buttons placed on the back, beneath the camera, which should allow faster, more convenient operations, as LG puts it.
All in all, LG G2 is a device that well deserves its current position at the top of LG’s portfolio, despite the fact that sales are not as great as the company had hoped.
As AndroidBeat notes, LG managed to sell 540,000 Optimus G Pro units in South Korea in the first four months following the handset’s launch, which clearly shows that G2 did not manage to help LG gain too much market share.
What remains to be seen is what exactly LG plans on bringing to the market next year, and whether it will be able to attract more users to its side than it did this year.
I am not a mobile market analyst, but I would guess one of the biggest reasons is people being fed up with LG's crappy updates. People iust dont trust them, and dont want to be stuck with a device a couple of OS versions behind the major competition. LG is probably the world's worst OEM, among the big names, in terms of supporting their products. Every time, they release an awesome flagship (no sarcasm here, LG hardware is typicaly top-notch), just to abandon it after one update, if not right away. I just hope they understand this, looking at the sales numbers, an maybe (just maybe) change their retarded approach to updates ...

I think, with all respect in the word, that you say that because optimus g dont recieve an update. In my opinion, many people dont know about their version of android os, or doesn t mather if they recieve an update. Most people , at least in my country, start to think about this, when they need an app that requires for example android 4.0 and they have 2.3. But in a small amount of people there are many that thinks that the software version is very important. Me, you and some people that still around here to see if LG anounce the update.
The g2 didn't sold that much because lg decided to follow samaung's glossy platic pattern instead of going for better materials. They copied samsung and it costed them.also the marketing was not that good. You need an agressive marketing these days. Bottom line, the g2 is underrated and i will buy it anyway soon

No. First of all, I personally don't care much about LG updates, and I bought the OG knowing full well that it will be very much behind, or even won't get updates past 4.1.2 at all (to be seen, I guess). Also, I owned another LG flagship in the past - 2X. ICS update debacle for that phone was quite a drama, trust me... You can also check LG's record on updating other devices. So, no, I am not saying this because I am bitter about OG. It's LG's MO, that's just how it is.
Second, I very much disagree that most people wouldn't care about updates. I think it's quite the opposite.
But again, that's just my unqualified opinion...

but we all bought OG at the time nexus 4 was also there na.. Nexus 5 is the reason for G2's sale ???
I believe they released it too fast.
G2 is the 3rd flagship model in one year.

G Flex is 700$ with contact.
And i bought my OG for 750$ with contract, if i remember correctly

No, most people are not geek, but they asks geeks for their inputs.
Of all the people that asked me, I always recomended they buy the N5 or the S4, the G2 is not worth the difference to get "no support" from the maker.
Even if we rules out the issue with the total lack of updates for the OS, the OG didn't get ANY fixes at all for the other known issue, even if it was reported to them. So, I can not recommend the current flagship for anyone.
My 5 cents = Geeks tell technophobes not to buy LG due to crappy updates, N5 comparatively cheap with guaranteed updates and lastly market saturation

Volvo is the safest car manufacturer in the world.Just like any brand, they all have their own goals and mottos and stuff like that.Personally,I prefer most people to be chosing other phones from other brands(Samsung,Sony,Oppo, etc.)So that my LG can feel special without going everywhere and within 15 metres, another guy is using a different phone than mine.Just Sayin.I hate to go mainstream.
Well the build quality, I really like LG's. But the trend now is with good build, should also come with great updates. That is how Nokia failed miserably. They have great phone build, but very outdated OS, and slow updates. But reality also says that most people go for the well-known brands, and most don't care about software updates. Heck they don't even know NFC.
