Tmobile erratic data speeds - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Lately something strange has been going on with my data speeds. For starters I have tested this one two tmobile s3s in the same location so it must be a service issue. Well at my house I used to get pretty decent speeds I have slow ass wifI so my 4g was always being used instead simply because it was always faster. Well for the passed 5 days I cant even load pages inside or around my house even a block down.. it says 4g in the status bar and the arrows light up like normal but I cant do anything! Couldnt send pics thru mms or load web pages and fb, twitter etc same thing with my friends s3.. is anyone experiencing this anywhere else? I live in Miami.. the funny thing is not even 15 min away from.my neighborhood I hit 20mb down.. wtf. Maybe tmobile doing somethin to the towers in my area?? Anyone seeing this type of service?
Ps. Ive flashed several modems and all give same result. I'm on stock rooted lh2..

That is usually the case. Gotta give it a few days, if the problem persists then call tmo.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

Definately sounds like a problem with the tower. Id call tmobile anyway. If its a problem they're not aware of, the longer it takes em to find out the longer till its fixed.

having the same problem. been a week now and nothing. drive a mile away, perfect data and data restored
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

Have you tried apps like Network Signal Speed boost from the playstore.

Same here. I drive a minute and have perfect service. It has been almost a month and it seems to be getting worst. I get no bars on 4g and 2 average on edge. I now have to rely exclusively on wifi calling. I think my 10 years of tmo are finally up
---------- Post added at 06:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:00 PM ----------
I recieved a text from tmobile that they will be servicing NJ area towers on 9/17 and it has never been the same since. About 2 years ago my service degraded but I was still able to get at least a few bars of 4G which was alleviated by the house signal booster. That booster is not compatible with EDGE.
I've called TMO at least 4 times, they always say give it 72 hours to hear back from the engineers. I call back 3 days later and get the same story. I do not know what is going on at this company right now but I do not like the direction they seem to be heading.

Damn, I thought it was only me, LOL.
I'm getting terrible speeds, like 200-300kbits.
Other places in the city (Sugar land) I usually get 15-16mbits.

Is anyone experiencing 3g issues?

For like the past month my 3g has been disappearing at random moments and then reappearing. Mostly when I'm on the web or using an app that requires internet. It's very annoying and frustrating. The problem began when I installed the gingerbread leak EH06 and even was present with EH17.. But now even going back to previous stock froyo EC05 the problem is still there. Anyways my question is can it be that the leak gingerbread screwed my phone up or maybe its sprints network that's been acting up?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Did you switch back to the EC05 modem too? About a month ago is when the iPhone started causing havok to the sprint network. Some places worse than others.
Yes. I even went as far as to odin the DG27 and the 3g disappearing is still an issue. And the whole iphone thing crossed my mind too. Even my 3g speeds are horrible at times. Good thing for me 4G is pretty good here in CT I get 3 bars from in my home.. But when I'm at school or work the 4g is horrible at piercing thru the building so I be on 3g.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
During the day time I'm getting the crappy 3g speeds iPhone users been complaining about. Once its past midnight it jumps up and becomes pretty fast I'm always getting up to 1mb or higher in download...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yep
I had that for a while too. I am hoping it is due to sprint updating their network; I haven't noticed it this week. Perhaps they're done in my area.
I hope sprint updating their network is the issue. Idk though because I asked my sister and a friend and they both said they haven't encountered any problems. Maybe its my phone
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i have experieced the same thing. in my house i can sometimes have full bars and occasionally it wil drop to nothing, and sometimes it will go into 1x (bonsai rom).
I be having full bars too. Mine doesn't drop to 1x though. Soon as it disappears it returns and disappears again then returns for good till it does the cycle again at another random time. I'm starting to think it's my phone. If I get a replacement I think I'll lay off of flashing leaks smh

3g signal drops while toggling wifi/3g mode
I have noticed that when I toggle to 3g mode after using wifi for data , the signal drops to 0.
also the 3g speeds and signal strengths are way weak than GSM phones on same network. do we have some tweaks that can help here out ?
---------- Post added at 10:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:28 PM ----------
well dropping signal to 0 while the signal area changes is not affected by the ROM as far I can tell .. PRL is one factor that matter and can help to get stable signals.
Just a honest opinion.. take it or leave it ...

[Q] Extremely Slow Data Speeds - Out of Blue? Help!

Switched to the truly unlimited 4G data plan on the 5th. Everything was fine up until last night. I've gone from having an awesome connection to the T-Mobile network 90ms Ping, 25MB Down, 4MB up. To a 1000MS ping, 0.05MB Down/Up.
I called T-Mobile verified my unlimited was good and there was no throttle in place. I'm not even at 10GB yet. What could possibly be going on that could cause this? I'm rooted, Stock Rom, UVALH2.
Edit - Sometimes when I run Speed Test it picks me up in New York, Nebraska, Arkansas.. Really weird!
Working fine here in 60657

Def call back customer service.
Im being throttled right now, and or speeds are identical. Call them back. My guess is your truly unlimited data plan wont srart til naxt billing period or something.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Nope. I went to a buddies place over in East Dundee (60118) and my speeds were back to normal. It has to be the tower in my area is having problems? If I call T-Mobile shouldn't they know if they have a tower experiencing problems?
Hmm..
Just got off the phone with T-Mobile. It appears there is a problem with three of the towers in my area. 84 other people have already called in and they said an engineering team is working on it. I've been on these 56k speeds for the past two days already going on a third. Should I tell them I want my data fee covered for the month or what?
Anyways just glad it's their network and not my phone. Wonder how long this will take.
Same story for me. I'm in San Francisco. Where are you guys?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Seems to be going around. Im on throttled but before I did get throttled my data speeds were about 1/3 what they usually were (7mbps instead of 21mbps) probably going around everywhere for the day hopefully.

They'll probably only give you $20/3 for the three days.
Well I should be out of my throttled data right now but im still only pulling .06mbps so I dont know what's going on... I'm in Phoenix AZ.

Call T-Mobile. When the prompt asks you why you're calling say Tech Support. Then tell the rep that in the past few days your data speeds have been 56K like. You know it's not your phone. They will then check the towers in your area and see if there are any engineering tickets/requests active. When I called after some searching the guy told me I was the 85th person in my area to call in and that there was an engineering ticket active. They said it could take up to 72 hours for it to be fixed. Tonight will mark 72 hours so we will see what happens.
I know if I leave my house and drive about 15 miles to a buddies house which runs off of different towers my speeds are normal and everything is fine. Something to do with the antennas in my area.
I'm getting what I think is normal in this area, not in my normal neighborhood so I cant really test any more. But it's at 2.5 so I'm happy for now.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Called T-Mobile a little while ago to see if their engineers had located the problem yet and if there was a solid ETA... Nothing so far the ticket has yet to be updated. She said things like this can take up to a week to get resolved and begged for my patience.
They offered me a $10 credit for the downtime. Here's my real question. Lets say this issue is not resolved within a week. Am I able to get out of my contract due to the fact I can't get my promised data connection at my residence?
Input?

Lol, no. I was in an area the coverage map rated as the best for voice and HSPA. I received only EDGE in my apartment and had frequent signal drops. I called T-Mobile every other day for three weeks. They won't do anything for you because the coverage map says you have service, and the engineers were working on a fix ASAP.
It takes a minute to be unthrottled

Tmobile data problems

Is tmobile doing things to their towers or something last couple of days my connection been a little slow and no my text message wont send now ?
I rebooted and now it seem to wanna send weird
ooo I noticed you were in jax. I too have noticed data acting stupid lately. my data will be fine, but come night time, it get slow. as slow as .2mbps. I used to be able to hit 22+mbps tops n 13mbps on average.
Yeaa maybe its in our area bro idk was going on but maybe itll get back to normal im also getting like 3 bars when i use to get like full bars
There are some troubles with tmobile network since they offer unlimited 4G. I had suffered from very low data speed for month. It was almost zero kbps or could not connect with 4G. However. Edge worked fine. My Data speed goes back to normal this week.

T-Mobile data unreliable signal.

Is anyone having a data problem with their network? I'm in the Everett Washington area and I've been having a terrible time with data! I go from 4 bars to no bars a split second. When I do get bars none of the apps seem to work from lack of connectivity. I use to get up to 20mbps when I did a speed test now I barely get between 6-8mbps. I'm really thinking about changing carriers. Its getting pretty ridiculous! I pay for unlimited data without being able to use the service half the time.
Any of you experiencing this problem?

For future reference, this shoulda been posted in the q&a section.
Lots of people having problems lately.
Don't forget the refarming and upgrading effort.
And did you call T-Mobile to see if they had an outage or something in your area?

It seemed to me that T-Mobile, even though they call it "unlimited" cut you back after so much usage. Sure you still get data but not full speeds whether yours is 4g or 3g. They cut the speeds down. It was like clockwork every month.
There was many things I didn't like about T-Mobile that being number two. Number one was lack of coverage, anytime I was out of town, I wouldn't have hardly ANY service.

They don't.. My speeds have gone down too, really bad. I want to blame it on refarming in my area but who knows. If I go around town I can get really good speeds.. Hope it gets fixed soon because I'm paying for unlimited

Its funny actually, I just remembered there's a spot I've discovered in my home that I can get 7-10mbps pretty consistent, if I move out of it I can barely make 1mbps. I hadn't tried it for a while because I've been using WiFi when I'm home because of the horrible speeds, and I just went back to the exact spot and got 6-10mbps from 4 straight speedtests, then I moved the phone a few feet away and I got 1.02mbps lol
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Try updating the modem first. Or downgrading it. Also your phone could have started to go bad. Does it happen everywhere
tmobile s3 running wicked. I still use a t9 text app so excuse the errors
I was actually running on UVDLJA then upgraded to the UVDMD5 package which had the bootloader, firmware and modem. The only thing I noticed was better battery life but only about an hour difference other than that it pretty much seems equal to UVDLJA. I noticed that there is a newer version of the package so in going to try flashing the new one and see if it will perhaps make any changes.

@all
Try not to be too quick to bash on T-Mobile for poor speeds. They are refarming the AWS and PCS bands and rolling out LTE all over the place.
This is a nationwide project so it is reasonable to expect some issues.
Suggestions:
Call support to ask about any outages or upgrading in your area.
Try out the different modems and tweaks in my thread.
Give it a week. (Shouldnt take that long if they're upgrading, but just to be fair)
If you still see no improvement start writing/emailing/calling and posting on the T-Mobile support forums. If this many people are having problems and they get bombarded about it, it may force some action. Be persistent if it comes to this point.
I really do think that given time, everything will go back to normal, and maybe even better.
Also, for those of you who ALWAYS use their mobile data, even when wifi is available, just switch to wifi please! It saves your battery and if there is any network congestion everyone will benefit.
One last thing. Once the network in your area has been upgraded, you may find that the modem that was the best for you before is no longer. Retest, and update the map in my radio thread so everyone can benefit.

The only change is the updater-script. There is no benefit to reflashing if you already have. You won't see any update to md5 till samsung releases it.

In light of LTE being unofficially turned on yesterday here in Denver, my 1700 band speeds cut in half. The fastest consistent speed I could get was about 6Mbps with the average being 3-4.
I locked my phone to 1900 WCDMA and guess what? Back to 11-12Mbps. Faster upload too, 2.3-2.5Mbps. My initial fears about moving HSPA to 1900 may have been completely wrong. That is probably why my phone prefers the 1900 band now and has for a few months.
Long story short, give it time, everything will stabilize when the network upgrades are complete.
Anyone that wants to experiment with speeds on the different bands, from the TouchWiz dialer (sorry this doesn't work on any ROM lacking TouchWiz), dial *#2263#, go to WCDMA band preference and change it to either 1700 or 1900. This will lock the phone to WCDMA only though so if you don't have a strong WCDMA signal in your area your calls can and will drop. If this is the case, just go back into the menu and set it to automatic. Generally the phone will continue to prefer whatever band it was locked on until you reboot your phone anyway but at least this way it can switch bands for call purposes.
Meant to post this here, but somehow put it in the wrong thread....
I think I may need to sleep at some point!!
Sorry for all the reading guys, but just a little more.
There have been several threads opened recently on this exact subject. Seek them out as you will find some other things to try. Some have worked for some people while not others, so ymmv.
This is a post from EtherealRemnant. You have to do this from the stock dialer, but give it a shot.
Start a big download and go to the dialer, input *#0011#. Take note of the band you are on (2 or 4) and which items have a 1 on them out of HSPA and HSDPA. If you are on band 2 and see a one next to either of those options, you can try forcing 1700 by using *#2263# and choosing it under WCDMA. This will cause you to lose service if you have poor 1700 coverage, particularly for voice calls but you can always set it back by going back to the main 2263 menu and hitting automatic.
If those don't work or you see zeroes have you gone into phone status to see if you have an IMEI? Because that will lock you to UMTS. Shortcut to find out - *#06#

I too, live in Everett WA, but a tad closer to Mill Creek. My map shows I am 75 meters from the closest tower, and Tmo keeps telling me that a tech has checked the tower's operation and found it to be working fine... I don't think their tech is as thorough as I would be. I envision some lazy turd driving near by and says... "yep it's working, and leaves, parking somewhere and chalking up a few hours of naptime and writing up a worksheet making it look like it was a completed job. I have wrestled with TMo for quite a while with the same problem you have. I have a repeater installed in the house on the third floor, and it hardly helps, but any small gain coupled with others have actually made my phone, at least, able to make calls! I have tweaked using a lot of different things, and have found this most beneficial.
Using stock rooted 4.1.1 OS (root66)
Baseband UVDLJC
and the 1900 freq.
My sig still jumps all over the place (like yours) but at least now, I hardly ever have NO SIGNAL.....
Believe me, I have got on Tmo's case like something fierce..... They finally offered to even cancel any charges for my contract termination, but that was not my point for complaining! I just wanted to be able to use the phone, and it wasn't possible at that time. Now, at least, the phone works, I can walk 100 ft to the street, and get full bars, 4G, so I know there is coverage, but indoors, it's not that good. The funny part is that all the main roads have GREAT 4G Coverage, and in our community, indoor reception is not the greatest, to say the least.
Bottom line, you are not the only TMo client that is having problems and hopefully, the Doc's right!
Let's hope that the reception gets back to being as good as it was, or maybe even better!
Good Luck, and Aloha!

Anyone running pure 4.3 stock

Data and call quality on these custom roms have been fine up until a few months ago. Either It's a fluke and just so happen that I been having issues around the time 4.3 dropped or the rom has issuses. I tried several 4.3 roms and still issuses with data speeds and drop calls. I called sprint and get the towers been updated and there's no outages in your area bull crap or lies of sending a box to boost signal free of charge ****. I never ask on this forum alot I rather figure it out myself but im completely lost. The only thing I haven't did yet was go back to 4.1 stock. My backup to that is gone Thanks to a dead 64 gig sd card and I don't wanna waste my time if the results are gonna be the same. Sprint was great for a year but things are bad took 3 hours to download 3 mb app smdh. I don't wanna leave sprint but I might not have a choice. It's hard to say it's my phone because my wife evo 4g lte dont even see 4g unless she jump on my internet tether or make a call in the bedroom to avoid a drop call. I literally get great coverage everywhere in town but at home. At my mom house I get download speeds of 15mbps all day long and at home download speeds of 0.63mbps and my phone say 4g lte on both really sprint. If you have any suggestions please steer me in the right direction before I blow 450 dollars leaving to another carrier. I would just be happy with no drop calls skip the internet at this point.
If your running stock with that knox mess let me know if things are different with calls or data hell I'll even give cm a try if it works.

Well I think your answer lies in your post. Everything works fine as long as your not at your house you stated. So it is a signal issue on sprints part not software or your phone.
FYI T-Mobile is offering to pay your etf's if you are looking to go that route.
