Anyone with warranty experience thru Samsung?? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was swapping out my Sim card and one of the pins broke off. Has anyone had any experience sending their phone in for warranty work thru Samsung? How good/bad was your experience and how long were you without your phone? Thanks in advance!

They were decent in my opinion, but you better get a loaner phone, because they take forever to fix it, then send it back.
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel

And don't be surprised if they want to charge you, especially since you kind of broke it...
They tried to charge me for a DOA pixel on the screen....

Ya, that's the kind of replies I figured. Thanks for the info.
How in the world did Samsung figure it was your fault for a dead pixel.....morons!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

The....guy I talked to suggested a factory reset to fix the pixel, it's really frustrating. And then you explain to them that a dead pixel is hardware related and permanent, and a factory reset couldn't be further from a solution, but they brush it off in that "hey, I work for Samsung, I know everything, now go do that factory reset" sort of tone. Maybe it was just him, but probably not...

Warranty Exchange

A few days ago, i sent my phone in for a warranty exchange. I unrooted the phone, but for some reason the boot logo never went back to stock. I also never could reset the flash counter because i do not have access to a jig. I had 3 days to get it sent in and i was forced to send it in without resetting the flash counter. Does anyone know what T-Mobile will do? Are they going to charge me any money??

No. It'll most likely get flashed to stock.right when they get it . I have sent phones in with counters and wrong boot logos such as mytouch and have never been charged.

I had to send my hard bricked SGS2 in for warranty exchange, it was still rooted even. They sent me a new one no questions asked. Most the time the techs who are doing the reflashing don't really care if you're rooted or not. Worst that could happen is they charge you, though I would say your probably on the safe side.
I sell cell phones for my job and I can tell you most employee's won't even know what rooting is if you told them. When I returned my Galaxy Nexus it was hard bricked and had the bootloader unlocked, but they had no idea.
I sent back a sensation fully rooted with a custom rom still on it and had no issues. I would not worry about it.

I completely screwed up and bricked an old Nokia I had when I flashed the wrong firmware...sent it in they replaced it no questions asked

For future reference they say you have 7 days but you actually have 60 days from the date UPS ships it. They will bill you the non return fee after 30 days but they will credit it as long as its within 60 days. If your pushing it with the cutoff but made it get a printout showing you dropped it off.
Hope this helps

Lost phone.

Just lost my phone in taxi I'm rooted also have face unlock and pattern unlock secondary. Is there anything I can do to assure the finder can't use it. Or can I track it. I'm on monthly 4g so no insurance!
That sucks man. As for gps locating your phone I believe that's offered by your insurance, or if you had any type of Norton, kaspersky, trend micro etc security on it. They offer stuff like that. Otherwise you might be SOL. As for them getting in I don't know. Maybe someone else can shed some light on that answer.

Go to the play store from your computer and download "plan b" it will be pushed to your phone and allows you to track it.

A buddy of mine used "Lost Phone" app from Play store
I hate how easy it is for someone to look up how to wipe a phone and easily bypass all security. Usually when someone finds a phone, that person doesn't want to know your stuff.
Where's my Droid can also be pushed, and then you can get it's location

did u ever set up Lookout on you phone? it comes w/it.. if you maybe randomly did one day, you can find it with that
2nd to the Plan B. That works amazingly. Also, check if you have a cab receipt. You might be able to use that to identify which cab specifically had the phone. You can call into their dispatch office and ask for that cab. Lookout is awesome too.
I called the cab said he saw no phone. Another passanger could have gotten it. I'm not even going to bother now what's done is done. Thanks to you and everyone for your help. I wanted a new phone anyway maybe my wife will get me one for fathers day. I'll wait and probably get a note or galaxy nexus I'm sticking with Samsung I have a windows and a iPhone at home but don't feel like it I can't go backwards .

I find that the GS3 is not much of a significant upgrade from the GSII. I would much more suggest a Galaxy Nexus since it will still be relevant for many more months to come. The GN comes with pure stock ICS not that TW crap. The GN is almost certain to receive jellybean directly from Google pretty quick while the S3 will have to suffer through what the SII just went through from GB to ICS

Should've went with nexus style all screen.that was kind of the point of ics

I would recommend setting up a pin lock on your next device, that way whenever the phone is restarted it prompts you for the pin. It doesn't matter if it's been wiped or not, it registers with your carrier. Also, as added security, I use Avast and from there I can remotely wipe my sd card and the phone, thus removing any chance of someone getting any of my personal info.

I totally agree don't know why these manufacturers still making new ics devices with buttons. Besides the nexus the only other device I see with on screen is a new Motorola phone coming out.

Hide Screen burn in

Hello, i have massive screen burn in due to the persistent search bar...my question is...i want to give this phone to my mom but i would like to know if there is any way to reduce hide or make the burn in go away, i have experimented with some apps in play store and with some color tuning settings but no luck yet...can someone help?
I wouldn't worry to much about it buuut if it is extremely visible without you deliberately trying to find it I would get a warranty replacement.

[Q] Warranty Claim

Hello community,
I am planning to send in my Nexus.
The headphone jack is broken. It has a typical loose contact.
My problem: My phone fell down some time ago.
I have a small crack in the display in the upper right part.
Is that going to be a problem?
I don't see any relations between the crack and the jack-problem.
Thanks,
Toby
I'm sure that won't be a problem.. Only way to find out is to honestly tell them. Samsung is very good IME with customer service. Just make sure to relock the bootloader lol

Not just yet, make sure you flashed a stock image before locking the boot loader.
Beamed from my Maguro.
Which is ironic considering rooting and custom ROMs don't knock loose headphone jacks, the drop was more likely to do it of course.
Please expand on your Samsung warranty replacement experiences, I haven't really heard anything good about them yet.

Hard Bricked Galaxy Nexus <<Story of the REPAIR>>

TL;DR: I admit that what happened was 100% a result of my n00b-ness and carelessness in reading before flashing.
Anyways, that being said, I will proceed with my 2 week nightmare and its resolution:
As usual, I was mucking around with ROMs and had just flashed the new beta of SLIMBEAN, and it was awesome. When I booted into CWM later, I realized that the version I had was out of date, and decided it was time to flash the new version. This is where things went bad.. very very bad...
I was being cocky and figured I could get the whole process done in a couple minutes by just googling "nexus recovery" and downloading / installing directly from the phone. What I had not seen, was that the download was for a NEXUS 7, rather than a galaxy nexus.
The flash went normal, at first. Then I hit "reboot" yet my phone stayed OFF. I figured it was a minor glitch, and did a battery pull, and hit the power button. NOTHING. I plugged it into AC wall outlet. NOTHING. Several different wall outlets... NOTHING. The computer recognized it as OMAP4440 for 2 seconds then disconnected, allowing me no time to do anything.
The phone was hard bricked. No download mode, no recovery, nothing at all on the screen, as if the phone was dead.
I tried every possible software solution out there, and even a friend's USB JIG... no luck.
So as a last resort I called Samsung. Twenty minutes later they finally transferred me to an agent who took down some information. When asked what my issue was, I mentioned that I was performing an unofficial "update" that had caused my phone to no longer charge. They sent me a prepaid shipping label and 3 days later my phone was in their facility. I receive an email later that day stating that my phone is now out of warranty. NOT from the rooting... but because the phone had scratches on it!
They wanted $214 due to their "all or nothing" repair policy, even after I had requested they leave the screen broken and just fix my phone. So I gave up on that and asked to be transferred to a manager, who was able to give me a significant discount since I had taken full responsibility for what had happened.
I was impressed by their service, and 2 weeks after the day it was bricked, I now have a fully functional (rooted and unlocked bootloader) phone! Just like that, the problem had been solved, although a sizable chunk was deducted from my bank account as a result.
So, XDA experts, what do you think of this? Has anyone else experienced a similar issue, or am I just really that clueless when it comes to modifying android phones?
Any feedback is appreciated, even if it is negative.. because I probably deserve it.
Re: Hard Bricked Galaxy Nexus <<Story of the REPAIR>>
We all make mistakes.. Honestly I am surprised that the recovery flashed on an incorrect device doing it from the phone. I know many Roms have a checksum that looks for the build prop device name. The recovery must have botched the partitions... Anyways happy to hear it got fixed.

When you mess with your phones you have to be extra careful, and re-read what you want to do and double check all your files BEFORE flashing. That's my number one rule. I have been hacking stuff for 5 years and I still consider myself a beginner and go slow cause I invest $$ that is hard earned and respected. Read-Read-Read....:fingers-crossed: And things can still go wrong. That is the risk of having fun! Very glad it wasn't too costly for you.
I also have a tablet and 2 android phones that I flip back and forth on, so I am always paranoid I will screw up by flashing the wrong file.
Sometimes you remember your mistakes by learning the hard way
Thanks for sharing your blonde moment! We all have them, just in different areas.
