S3 got hacked at work!!! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just started working for IBM about a month ago. The department has been extremely slow so I asked a co-worker if he had the visitors wifi code. Im not sure which or whose code he put in, but with sprints ****ty ass service, I was happy to be able to surf the web on my phone, instead of on there computers.
Now, today 2 folders popped up on my phone that I never saw before, and could not erase.
One said Sony Viao and another said auto back up.
Im home now and the folders dissappeared. And I took a screen shot to make sure im not tripping.
Can anyone shed some light on what the hell they were doing?

Those are the shared computer/folders on the same network, dont worry, you have not been hacked.

Exactly, they're shared folders, and I think you only see them in the gallery. My question is, if I'm on a guest wifi at work, can other people see my pictures I have on my phone as well?

It's possible you've never noticed them before, or possible those computers weren't on the network before, or if they were, weren't sharing those folders.
I believe the only things in those folders are pictures anyway.

Lol, of course not. You'd have to set that yourself, and I don't think you even can with the stock gallery app.

I travel for work extensively, and end up in hotels quite a bit. I always have fun on the hotel networks with my gs3 looking through all the power users' accidentally shared photos. Windows7 is a beautiful thing for many reasons. :good:

You are on IBM visitor server. Any customer that is dumb to share folder when they connect to the visitor server then the folder show up. No you are not being hack, but the IT department knows that you are connected and surf a restrict website and they can ban you. You phone mac address is record to the server so if you keep going to restrict website they have to right to ban you and can easily located your device.

Sounds dodgy m8, not sure how much help your gonna get with hacking on here.
Getting the most out of your phone and hacking into someone elses wireless connection are two different things, not to mention how illegal it would be if you were to do it to someone.

Sounds a bit farfetched and fishy...
There's is no difference in how hard it is to crack the wi-fi encryption. With the right software everything is possiblie, it might just take a bit longer with the phone than with a supercomputer.
But enough about that, I highly doubt that a school would want you to research something that's illegal (seriously, who learns about hacking just to hack something that belongs to himself?)
That sounded so wrong NixZt0rm...
If you can find something like aircrack. And the wifi chip supports packet injection it should be relatively easy (wep only as wpa is almost impossible). I've done it many times on my Nokia N900 (all done legally though not gonna risk going to jail lol).
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
You can easily crack WEP with your phone, but no one uses WEP anymore. Google it, I use to do it with my old N80. WPA requires many hours/days of packet sniffing and rainbow tables, which would be impractical on a phone (but theoretically possible though).

[Q] spy apps/software??

I know similar questions have been asked before and information won't be easy to obtain from anyone regarding this but I know so many poeple have the knowledge to answer. I obviously don't want to use a subscription service but here is my dilemma.
Yes I am trying to spy, however I own both devices and pay for the entire bill just granting the phone for use as is to my current girlfriend, I'm not accusing her of cheating however she is hiding something and its all within the texts she deletes, those texts are transmitted to and from the device I allow her to use, just looking for any options I have aside from shelling out hundreds or thousands on something that can be easily accomplished, however if the information is sensitive I don't want it uploaded to the web, just more of a forward type of thing I suppose but definately hidden from her view, she isn't tech savvy, but our evos are both rooted and custom Rom etc. If anyone could help me with this, that would be super. App / software / source / service doesn't matter to me.
cool story bro, get a new girlfriend and leave the spying to the spy's. if you do not trust her, let her go.

Could he? He does own the phones and the contract is in his name. Should be able to do whatever he wants with the phone he's "lent" out, right?
A buddy of mine suspected his wife was cheating and she wouldn't admit to it. He decided to sift through her emails. He found she was, had proof, divorced her and is now happily married to a faithful woman. Just sayin.....had he not done that he would be far worse off. There's definately better ways to do it.....but every relationship and every person is different right?
That's weird, I thought he was asking for help with finding an app. Guess I missed the part where he asked for a bunch of relationship advice....

[Q] Stop Throttling Hack

This being my first 4G device, I went through my allowed data usage a little early and now I'm on sub-mediocre and pre y2k Internet. I was curious to see if there were any legit stop throttling hacks
And yeah I know it won't help me now
You have two options:
1. Pay for the data you're using. Don't like being throttled? Upgrade your plan.
2. Look a little. Like a few threads down. It's not even like you have to look hard for an answer.

Hi guys, I'm the one that told everyone how to do this in that other thread & I wrote up a tutorial which can be found in the link in my sig. Some people are reporting that its not working for them, but I've been testing this little tweak for 6 weeks now & it definitely works for me.
That said, I have not been able to test if it works to de-throttle, since I've never actually been throttled.

I think she's trying to say she changed her APN prior to being throttled so she wouldn't know if it stops you from being throttled if you change your APN after you've already hit your data cap and are being throttled.
Didnt work for me.. Tried it while being throttled.. Left it until my cycle started today. It already showed the mb i used up..

I don't know what doesn't make sense. I said I knew for a fact that I've gone over my limit but haven't been throttled(I measured my data with a separate app), and that my data counter on T-Mobile.com hasn't budged since I changed my APN, therefore internet2 does not seem to be monitored. I never said I didn't know if it would work at all, I said I didn't know if it would work to de-throttle anyone because I changed it on my phone before I ever got throttled.
Sorry it didn't work for you, but I've gotten numerous reports from many people saying that it works like a charm.

ICS Carrier IQ Substitute

I could be wrong, but it looks like Sprint/Samsung have put a diagnostic app back in (similar to carrier IQ). Not sure where it is in the app settings, but you can opt out in the about phone settings. Hopefully in the actual eventual ota they let the user choose on first boot instead.

I think this is their way of using Carrier IQ and the average user wont even think about what it is or disabling it so they win either way.

Lol, it's the tutorial for motion actions, like panning between home screens while holding an icon by tilting the phone.

I know they announced work with Smith Micro, but I think that is only for data offloading, although Smith Micro does something very similar to Carrier IQ.
It is possible that at some point they may also go back to Carrier IQ as well. I think that would take place once all the lawsuits and questions regarding the EULA etc have been answered.

So what I'm understanding is that some of you are removing the application that Samsung relies on to report app crashes/errors to fix the glitches in ICS?

Yes, I don't like being spied on and don't want sprint knowing the apps I use on my phone and how often I use them. Oh, you use a root app, no warranty for you...or you use a tethering app, lets add 20 dollars to your bill.

Sprint doesn't care if you root. They've put out memos saying that it doesn't void warranty ... the tethering ... well, that I'm sure they'd be interested in. That's money out of their pockets. lol

You realize that application has nothing to do with Sprint, right? It's for Samsung to collect information about crashes and errors so that they can fix their software. But it's cool, not everyone is a team player.

Lol read the privacy policy posted, not going to argue with your about it, if you are fine with sprint/Samsung monitoring how you use you're phone, good for you, but a lot of people are not, including me, and this thread is for bringing it to the attention of those people, not for you to complain about people caring.

Just remember however this is a TEST build. right now Samsung is trying to see where things are going wrong as well as Sprint since they are most likely testing this on their network as well. If it's still there come OTA then it's something to worry about but till that point and time it would be nice to help samsung try and fix their issues.

I disclaimed that in my op, but just the way it links to a consumer privacy policy leads me to believe it is here to stay.

I'd have to agree with you. While I am completely against spying of any sort without my input, this is a test build. This isn't a required update, nobody is forcing it down anyones throat. Everyone running it choose to install it. It's great that people are keeping a close eye on the movements of these companies but until there is legitimate cause for concern ie. an official release, nobody should get up in arms about this.

What we are saying is it looks like it is consumer facing, which means it will almost certainly be in the final build.

eh I'm here or there with that part right now. My reason is this with the builds being released (I'm sure some Sprint employees are using the build with devices in a test center) this could very well be to cover Sprints and samsungs butt if someone does see this app installed and it lets them know the reason for it as well. I do agree with you I don't like this stuff on my phone when it comes to an official release however right now most people (I myself till I went back to a Stock rom) were running an Alpha that does have issues so sending the data to Samsung to help them I don't see a problem with as it could work out well for us in the long run with a much better OTA release.
i care more about freeing up RAM (thanks to the commenter that has killed it with no side effects)
but really does everyone think samsung is using the reports from all of us running leaked builds?? righhhhht and dont think they dont know who should and shouldnt be.

That would be great for new and experienced users. I know I would appreciate it.
I'm sure it is a delicate situation sometimes on forums, especially with one as large as xda.
Please give it a shot. This forum appears to be about spreading knowledge. As long as credit is displayed at the head of the sticky...
