[Q] Stop Throttling Hack - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

This being my first 4G device, I went through my allowed data usage a little early and now I'm on sub-mediocre and pre y2k Internet. I was curious to see if there were any legit stop throttling hacks
And yeah I know it won't help me now

You have two options:
1. Pay for the data you're using. Don't like being throttled? Upgrade your plan.
2. Look a little. Like a few threads down. It's not even like you have to look hard for an answer.

Another useless post from another douchebag in this forum. Why does this not surprise me?
Now in regard to you, OP... T-Mobile has done pretty well with patching the loopholes. I saw it discussed in the G2x forum a while back but last i saw, it stopped working.

Unthrottling "supposedly. " even Melvin asked users input if it worked or even did anything.
If you've used up your data allotment I don't think there's anything you can do about that.

Lucky punk! I switched to 4.0 right before i reached my limit but still got shut down...
Weird thing though: the 4G icon is still in my status bar, but when I hit a bad spot it'll change to E. No change in speed though.
Also, darkside, I tried the voicestream apn, and although it did not Dethrottle me, my Internet speed is a tad faster and tons more stable. I spiked to 240 kbs once. May have been a glitch

One more thing.. The guy with the picture of the sweet evo (car) in his sig has mentioned a method of avoiding throttling by altering something in the file system. Does anyone know anything else about this?

Hi guys, I'm the one that told everyone how to do this in that other thread & I wrote up a tutorial which can be found in the link in my sig. Some people are reporting that its not working for them, but I've been testing this little tweak for 6 weeks now & it definitely works for me.
That said, I have not been able to test if it works to de-throttle, since I've never actually been throttled.

NA I can say it definitely does not work when you are already throttled waiting until my new data starts over so I can fully test it out.

You say it's working for you for 6 weeks now. Then you say you've never been throttled to know if it works. :-\
That makes no since what so ever....
The change didn't work for me. And had I of known you've never been throttled before, I wouldn't have trusted the 'hack'.

I think she's trying to say she changed her APN prior to being throttled so she wouldn't know if it stops you from being throttled if you change your APN after you've already hit your data cap and are being throttled.

Didnt work for me.. Tried it while being throttled.. Left it until my cycle started today. It already showed the mb i used up..

I don't know what doesn't make sense. I said I knew for a fact that I've gone over my limit but haven't been throttled(I measured my data with a separate app), and that my data counter on T-Mobile.com hasn't budged since I changed my APN, therefore internet2 does not seem to be monitored. I never said I didn't know if it would work at all, I said I didn't know if it would work to de-throttle anyone because I changed it on my phone before I ever got throttled.
Sorry it didn't work for you, but I've gotten numerous reports from many people saying that it works like a charm.

ICS Carrier IQ Substitute

I could be wrong, but it looks like Sprint/Samsung have put a diagnostic app back in (similar to carrier IQ). Not sure where it is in the app settings, but you can opt out in the about phone settings. Hopefully in the actual eventual ota they let the user choose on first boot instead.

I think this is their way of using Carrier IQ and the average user wont even think about what it is or disabling it so they win either way.

If you're referring to com.android.samsungtest.SlateTest, then no it is not CarrierIQ in any form. Slate is a diagnostics tool that we service centers run that tests the radios and basic functions of the phone.

It is possible that at some point they may also go back to Carrier IQ as well. I think that would take place once all the lawsuits and questions regarding the EULA etc have been answered.

Just remember however this is a TEST build. right now Samsung is trying to see where things are going wrong as well as Sprint since they are most likely testing this on their network as well. If it's still there come OTA then it's something to worry about but till that point and time it would be nice to help samsung try and fix their issues.

I'd have to agree with you. While I am completely against spying of any sort without my input, this is a test build. This isn't a required update, nobody is forcing it down anyones throat. Everyone running it choose to install it. It's great that people are keeping a close eye on the movements of these companies but until there is legitimate cause for concern ie. an official release, nobody should get up in arms about this.

eh I'm here or there with that part right now. My reason is this with the builds being released (I'm sure some Sprint employees are using the build with devices in a test center) this could very well be to cover Sprints and samsungs butt if someone does see this app installed and it lets them know the reason for it as well. I do agree with you I don't like this stuff on my phone when it comes to an official release however right now most people (I myself till I went back to a Stock rom) were running an Alpha that does have issues so sending the data to Samsung to help them I don't see a problem with as it could work out well for us in the long run with a much better OTA release.

Well that's what I was getting at, like when Xboarder broke the rules they closed his thread, leaving it with comments as to why it was closed and such. I don't see why they would just delete a thread without any statements being made as to why. Either there was an accident, or it sounds pretty shady.

Yeah, that makes sense. I am generally a patient person so I guess I will turn off conspiracy theory mode and just do some reading, take a late midterm, and hope to hear about progress when I get home.
I would like to take this opportunity for a rant of mine though:
<rant>
No one seemed to do it on Raver's post last night before I went to bed, but I find it so frustrating when people fill up a thread with useless posts, AND THEN everyone fills it up with more useless posts about how useless the previous posts were. You'll watch a thread go off topic, and then get a dozen "let's get back on topic"s in a row. It's part of the problem! I think one person says it, and then a lot of other people don't actually read it.
</rant>
(Deep breath)
Well, hopefully I can either come back to this thread later for what happened, or Raver will have a thread up about his rom

+1 on all the above. Got to page 20 then... My heart doesn't know what to do. Adrenaline is still coursing through my blood but figured something in the thread is probably just being changed/fixed.
Not much of a poster, more of a pm'er/tester/gtalk but figured I would also see what was up.
I'm quite curious also, last night was crazy and it did get quite a bit out of hand with all the unnecessary posts and such. Hopefully the thread shows up soon because i really want to see the updates on the build which i may add is absolutely fantastic!
Some douchebag saidhe PM'ed a mod and told him to clean up the thread and with all the flaming and BS in the thread, i supposed the mod deleted it. LAME CALL XDA!!!!
This is why all the good dev's always leave XDA. Cause they create masterpieces and its not their fault a butt load of people flood their post with a bunch of jizz. Then a crybaby whines to a mod and they come and remove the thread. It happend to a few of mine in the past when I dev'ed fot the Dell Streak and a couple for the Vibrant.

I've noticed other forums w/ dedicated threads for all the random questions that people can come up with and rather than more new threads we can use this one thread and hopefully get the help we need. No worries about flaming in this thread as all questions/suggestions/answers are welcome here w/ one exception: rooting. There are plenty of threads on rooting and by using the Search function you can find your answer, I'm sure.

I've noticed other forums w/ dedicated threads for all the random questions that people can come up with and rather than more new threads we can use this one thread and hopefully get the help we need. No worries about flaming in this thread as all questions/suggestions/answers are welcome here
(w/ one exception: rooting. There are plenty of threads on rooting and by using the Search function you can find your answer, I'm sure.

This made me laugh out loud, literally.

How's this for off-topic?
What would be some reasons I get segmentation faults, malformed archive errors, etc when it gets to libwebcore.so, yet I can "make -j8 libwebcore" with a clean output dir and it builds fine.

Jitter issue I'm having, can't seem to get rid of it. Any solutions? This happens all the time when you rest your finger on the screen. Vertical and horizontal. Its as if the screen can't decide where my finger is resting so it moves in a small pixel range. At least that's what I think. I just want a fix. Running utacka pa and lightning zap. Had this issue throughout the last year. Can't fing stand it.

Holy crap yours is pretty bad. I had that happen a few weeks back; only did it when I was charging though. I couldn't even long-press on the home screen to change a wallpaper, it would just start jitter back and forth just enough for it to try to switch pages, but not enough to where it would actually change them. It was so bad that I couldn't even text if it was plugged in. Only thing I could think of at the time was that it was the fact that my digitizer was cracked; but because it went away before I could change the glass, I decided that wasn't it. As far as fixing it... mine did it for about a week and then just randomly quit doing it.
Ya, I can't find anyway to fix this. It has happened as long as I can remember, but not when I first got the phone. I feel like it's something software related, because hardware wise the phone has never had an issue, as far as I can tell/know.
If anyone can help PLEASE!!! do so.
Eternal gratitude is your prize =)
What CM are you on ?
Was running CM10, it happens, the daily builds. Running paranoidandroid Utacka build, still happens. I run Miui port, still happens. No idea =(
Could this be a hardware issue? It's past a year since manufacturer warranty, so i guess im screwed.

I have the same problem as you, I don't know when exactly started doing this :/
Have you tried flashing a stock rom or unbricking. I seem to remember having this issue way back and fixing it. I'm also thinking using lg software updater could have fixed it...its been a really long time I just can't remember

I honestly don't do anything extra that I couldn't do with the free version, but meh. Why not support XDA, ya know? It's just a double-cheeseburger from McDonalds...
Haven't had mcd's for over 10 years... but I'll support xda

Has anyone else received a letter from AT&T regarding tethering while not on a tethering plan? I fired it up once or twice last month for like 10 minutes; received a notification in the mail yesterday telling me that unless I contacted customer service they would automatically change my plan to a 5GB/month tethering plan for like $50. I received a "good stern talking to" and was sent on my way with no plan changes, but if I do it again, they will automatically change it and my unlimited data plan will be gone for good.
I do believe I'll be pushing the "unlimited" part as far as I can again. Time to fire Netflix back up and just let it play for no reason at all. Anyone have any other heavily data-intensive apps to recommend?
I'm looking for a good app to hide apps I been looking for a while now can't find anything I'm running cw 10.01 I believe still new to the rooting process
