[Q] Battery life problem? - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Okay so I really love the ion except for one thing.... Battery life! I don't know if it is just my phone but the battery life is absolutely horrible. For example I have done nothing today but browse the Internet for maybe 20min, make a short call, and send a few texts.... My battery has dropped to about 40percent with very light use. Am I missing out on any battery saving secrets for this phone haha?
Oh and I have no lte connection but solid hspa+ connection in my area. Also I'm no android noob so I definitely have my wifi, nfc, gps, ect.... All off. And screen brightness down.
Thank you for any input!

If you enable data,it will consume your battery

If you're not using Ltd, go to the info menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then go to phone information, and change your prefered network type. Wcdma prefered or wcdma only. That should do it for most hspa, GSM networks.
Also watch out for all the millions of crappy apps that are constantly syncing and downloading adds.
Also you can do a factory charge in the service menu.

I recommend an app like juice defender pro and configure it to only turn on data when certain apps are open or to run push checks in intervals

Not a bad idea, I've never used an app like juice defender. But might give it a try. As long as its not an app killer, I strongly believe the app killers are truly useless on android.

The best I have found is system tuner 2.5 and have set my kernel when the screen is off to run in PowerSave mode.
Settings in systemtuner:
When phone awake:
Kernel auto kill - aggressive
Max frequency - 1.52ghz
Kernel governer - on demand
When phone asleep:
Kernel auto kill - very aggressive
Max frequency - 1.00 ghz
Max freq.. In call - 2.00 ghz
Kernel governer - PowerSave
This works quite well for me as I get about 22 hr on full battery. I also use the device for my work and I have to contact and talk to about 23 ppl a day so my device is doing wonders. Hope this helps
Edit:
Forgot to mention you must be rooted and have a deodexed Rom. Also done check market for this app just Google if ya know what I mean.

I tried to adjust the radio settings like you said but they wont stick for some reason... when i choose the WCDMA preferred option or any other option for that matter it imeadiatly defaults back to the LTE preffered setting. Very strange... also what do you mean by "factory charge"
thanks for the reply.

Any love on the question of better wifi management?

I've looked into this. The answer is no. The reason why is most devices including laptops are set for us consumers to get the furtherest range on wifi ap's. Now laptops atleast have an option in the connection properties of your ap called roaming its default option hangs on to wifi as long as possible then there is aggressive which will change the ap its connected very fast but I have not seen any app that will let you make a "wifi roaming" setting change. I believe its kernel level with our device.

HTC One X how to improve battery life?

Dear all, I would like to extend the battery life of my HTC One X. I am currently doing the following:
Using JuiceDefender Ultimate on extreme.
Using flight mode with WiFi on.
Using one panel with minimal widgets.
Is there anything else I can do to extend battery life?

There were some good tips in the Battery thread a few pages back.
One thing that seems to be mentioned alot is NOT to use Juice Defender (or im misremembering)
Disable sync is a start too.
Disable Auto sync
Reduce the screen brightness
Disable Push e-mail
Use 3G only if needed otherwise swtich to 2G
Change the Network selection to manual
These are few tips
Go to settings then development options and either tick don't keep activities or change the background process limit to either 4 or less.
These settings revert to normal if the phone reboots tho so remember to change them again if your phone is turned off

Thanks for the tips guys but how do I disable push email and the network selection to manual thing?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
2G will double your life but i leave mine on 3G only and get decent life. I hear if you have it on auto it running and alot of bands of frequentices and drains your battery alot quicker.
Settings, mobile network, network mode - then select the option you desire.
Thanks for the tips.
If anyone has any more tips which aren't listed here please can you post them?

I've done a guide with some battery saving tips. Such a busy forum, it's sunk several pages back. Shouldn't be to hard to find.

Only if you're in an area with bad 3g connection, making the radio jump forwards and backwards between 2g and 3g. Otherwise, keeping 3g on at all times hardly drains any battery at all (if there's no data being sent or received).
DEBLOAT!
- go to app manager and disable/unstall all apps that you are not using.
Extreme method
- use zeam launcher and DISABLE ALL HTC SENSE related.
PS: Sense dones't make sense to BATT SAVING...
Im using JuiceDefenfer, it really helps i think!

Getting 10 Megs down on 3G with tweak

Stumbled on an app called 3G / 4G optimizer. There's a free version in the market. Bought the pro version for $3 something. On non-LTE, getting consistently 10 megs down.

Just did, it does increase the speed by adjusting network setting, I was under 1MB (my home is concrete floor) and doubled the spped to 1.5 after a reboot,
from a site on the net...
based on Build.prop Optimization.needs busybox.- Features -Number/Number/Number (example: 10/10/6) means GPRS Class/Max download speed/Max upload speed.Speaking Simply, Higher value boosts your data network speed, but it can causes battery drain.
the HOX international is a class 12 device, seem like the default are at 10 so increase seem to be quite normal!
I however doubt that placing 17 there will make our 3G device an LTE one...
Sis some more test, speed increase is real by maybe by 10-20% but in my case the modem was configured as 10 not 12 like it should have been...
Damnit root only, thanks anyways op

did nothing for me
Tried it out...not sure if it works. Changed to battery saver and increased download. increased my speed from 5.5 to around 6.6. May just be random moment

Just tried this, im on the Three UK network.
First I did 5 speedtests from speedtest.net without:
5255 / 2374
5007 / 1643
4678 / 2017
4592 / 1685
5098 / 1737
then 5 with, I selected the 12/28/7 - Max Speed (low battery) default profile:
5131 / 2304
5160 / 2347
6065 / 2399
7694 / 2364
5815 / 2390
then 5 with, I selected the 12/28/7 - Max Speed (low battery) download first profile:
5204 / 1962
5349 / 1654
5417 / 1616
4791 / 1787
5988 / 2386
I then tried to go back to the normal profile however and I had constant connection issues and couldn't complete a speed test, set it back to the other profiles and it works but it probably needs a reinstall etc. I've not had chance to do any testing on battery drain though.

What app to turn on/off data periodically?

I have 4G LTE unlimited grandfather plan on my S3. But as you all know, the battery drain pretty quick with 4G LTE. I cant even last a day with normal usuage. I am on on stock LH1 rooted rom. I've found that turn off data from the notification bar help with the battery tremendously but dont want to miss out important emails when im not near a computer.
What app/widget do you guys use to automatically turn data on and off periodically like let say on for 30 minutes then off for 30 minutes, or off/on permanently via manually override from the user?
I've searched on the market and Google but no luck..
Thanks guys!
I use switchpro widget. It has a data toggle that you can switch on and off as needed.
JuiceDefender claims to be able to do this. You can select how often data is enabled and the duration.
Batteryfu great app and free

Juicedefender just set it to activate data after you unlock the screen very helpful its under the help tab in the app.

thaks. will try it soon
any customized Samsung TW ROM with 15 toggles MOD will have Data On/Off switch.
+1 for recommending Juice Defender. I upgraded to ultimate, wasnt really necassary though you can set schedules for it to sync anywhere from reactivating your data every 5 minutes to once every couple hours and everywhere in between. Can set it to turn off your gps, wifi, blue tooth etc... Just my 2 cents
JuiceDefender is probably your best choice. I've been using it on every Android phone I've had and it gives you a great deal of customization if you upgrade to ultimate.

AOKP Kernal and Rom questions

Hi,
I tried posting this in the AOKP thread but I cant post there, so hopefully I can get this answered here.
I flashed the ROM and now my WIFI is almost non existant I cant get a signal unless im about 2ft away from it has anyone else had this problem?
Also I am new to the S3 and was wondering what is the difference between the kernals involved?
The one that is included in the rom and these
Kernels
Stock CM10 Kernel 9.28.2012
Ktoonsez Kernels
Thanks
Cm10 kernel is the one included in the aokp ROM.
Kt747 kernel is a modified kernel created by ktOonsez that allow you to set your CPU from 96mhz to 2106mhz, let you set different voltage and many more.
Go check the threads and learn from it
Have fun with your sgs3

Goto Wi-Fi, advanced and deselect avoid our connection, see if that makes a difference
Sort of said above..but go to Wi-Fi, click on menu button (to left of physical home key on phone)....click "advanced“.
I uncheck "avoid poor connections", pick the band of your router below that might help, and check "US" under "Wi-Fi region code". Send to help mine....Although the "bars" seem lower than another ROM, still has decent connection.
