Getting 10 Megs down on 3G with tweak - HTC One X

Stumbled on an app called 3G / 4G optimizer. There's a free version in the market. Bought the pro version for $3 something. On non-LTE, getting consistently 10 megs down.

Just did, it does increase the speed by adjusting network setting, I was under 1MB (my home is concrete floor) and doubled the spped to 1.5 after a reboot,
from a site on the net...
based on Build.prop Optimization.needs busybox.- Features -Number/Number/Number (example: 10/10/6) means GPRS Class/Max download speed/Max upload speed.Speaking Simply, Higher value boosts your data network speed, but it can causes battery drain.
the HOX international is a class 12 device, seem like the default are at 10 so increase seem to be quite normal!
I however doubt that placing 17 there will make our 3G device an LTE one...
Sis some more test, speed increase is real by maybe by 10-20% but in my case the modem was configured as 10 not 12 like it should have been...

Damnit root only, thanks anyways op

Just tried this, im on the Three UK network.
First I did 5 speedtests from speedtest.net without:
5255 / 2374
5007 / 1643
4678 / 2017
4592 / 1685
5098 / 1737
then 5 with, I selected the 12/28/7 - Max Speed (low battery) default profile:
5131 / 2304
5160 / 2347
6065 / 2399
7694 / 2364
5815 / 2390
then 5 with, I selected the 12/28/7 - Max Speed (low battery) download first profile:
5204 / 1962
5349 / 1654
5417 / 1616
4791 / 1787
5988 / 2386
I then tried to go back to the normal profile however and I had constant connection issues and couldn't complete a speed test, set it back to the other profiles and it works but it probably needs a reinstall etc. I've not had chance to do any testing on battery drain though.

[Q] GPRS/Bandwidth monitor?

The only one I found is "GPRS Monitor", which looks excellent, but doesn't work on Galaxy S...
Anyone knows a similar program that works on Galaxy S ?
I'm using 3g Watchdog works well.
I'm fine with DroidStats for the moment. You could also try Call Meter NG or Plan Monitor Widget. If you're just lookin' for traffic stats, i think 3G Watchdog is the way to go. There are several more, I think.
I use 3G watchdog as well, its all you need!
NetCounter also does the job
Using 3g Watchdog as well but is there an app which measures how many minutes one has been on 3G?
I am testing now Smart Monitor Lite. It is monitoring Mobile and Wi-fi Traffic( daily and monthly)Banwdwidth not suported. Available at Market

To my knowledge minutes aren't the issue with regards to 3G, only the bandwidth that you eat dictates how much money your network provider takes out of your bank account.
Installed 3g watchdog....works fine, thx

Try googling the netcounter-0.14.1.apk. It is free.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, will try the other apps you guys posted. I know its the amount of data that you use while surfing with 3G is what your going to get billed for but where I come from, they have promos wherein there is a flat rate/cost for 15 mins of 3G usage.
Currently I use 3G watchdog. But it doesnt exactly serve my purpose.
My plan gives me 1GB day time free usage and 5GB night time free usage in a month.
Day time = 7am-11pm
Night time = 11pm-6.59am.
So basically I get billed if I cross 1GB during day time (over a month) or 5GB during night time.
Does anyone here know of any app that can keep time-of-the-day based data counters. Basically, I need 2 counters which keep logging activity based on different timings.
Please let me know if you know such an app.
Thanks in advance.

HTC One X how to improve battery life?

Dear all, I would like to extend the battery life of my HTC One X. I am currently doing the following:
Using JuiceDefender Ultimate on extreme.
Using flight mode with WiFi on.
Using one panel with minimal widgets.
Is there anything else I can do to extend battery life?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
There were some good tips in the Battery thread a few pages back.
One thing that seems to be mentioned alot is NOT to use Juice Defender (or im misremembering)
Disable sync is a start too.
Disable Auto sync
Reduce the screen brightness
Disable Push e-mail
Use 3G only if needed otherwise swtich to 2G
Change the Network selection to manual
These are few tips
Go to settings then development options and either tick don't keep activities or change the background process limit to either 4 or less.
These settings revert to normal if the phone reboots tho so remember to change them again if your phone is turned off

Thanks for the tips guys but how do I disable push email and the network selection to manual thing?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
2G will double your life but i leave mine on 3G only and get decent life. I hear if you have it on auto it running and alot of bands of frequentices and drains your battery alot quicker.
Settings, mobile network, network mode - then select the option you desire.
Thanks for the tips.
If anyone has any more tips which aren't listed here please can you post them?

Only if you're in an area with bad 3g connection, making the radio jump forwards and backwards between 2g and 3g. Otherwise, keeping 3g on at all times hardly drains any battery at all (if there's no data being sent or received).
DEBLOAT!
- go to app manager and disable/unstall all apps that you are not using.
Extreme method
- use zeam launcher and DISABLE ALL HTC SENSE related.
PS: Sense dones't make sense to BATT SAVING...
Im using JuiceDefenfer, it really helps i think!

are you on 4G? did you backup and then restore your IMEI via one of these methods?

a more in-depth method, might work better;

Easiest way to tell is to do a speedtest with somebody else's phone if they have T-Mobile and see if they get the speeds you used to get. Getting slower speeds from CM10 can be a possibility as it is still new and not fully optimized yet.

The stock ROMs don't have it. ASOP has it, I wonder if AKOP has the same problem.

Possible Fix?
I made the following changes to my build.prop (located in the root>system folder) as suggested from a friend with similar tmobile woes on his HTC one S.
ro.ril.hsdpa.category = 24
ro.ril.hsupa.category = 6
ro.ril.hsxpa = 4
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule = 2
Note: I had to enter some of these manually in the build.prop file as they were not there.
Data has been very random for me, but this appears to have fixed my slow data issues for the time being. I would love feedback from other with slow data to see if this helps them.
----------------------
BreakDown (for those who want to know)
ro.ril.hsdpa.category & ro.ril.hsupa.category - These values set maximum speed for the network
ro.ril.hsxpa - This value determines which networks you connect to by default. my CM10 had this set to 1, but tmobile uses 4 by default.
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule - This value will stop your network from constantly switching between 3g and h+ (note: mine still switches quite a bit, but switches to h+ immediately when using data)

The slow data speeds on AOSP/AOKP have been fixed for about a month now.
Same thing as OP.
When I first got the phone stock, I was able to get up to 14mbps.
Now I can pull off about 12mbps max.
Also, the signal is weaker. I only get 1 bar at home.

Thanks for the info, although I still have to apply these setting to get reliable data. If I don't make these changes I get on average 0.5 mbps. I have gone back and forth between build.prop files and for some reason the stock CM10 build.prop causes issues for me.

[Q] Battery life problem?

Okay so I really love the ion except for one thing.... Battery life! I don't know if it is just my phone but the battery life is absolutely horrible. For example I have done nothing today but browse the Internet for maybe 20min, make a short call, and send a few texts.... My battery has dropped to about 40percent with very light use. Am I missing out on any battery saving secrets for this phone haha?
Oh and I have no lte connection but solid hspa+ connection in my area. Also I'm no android noob so I definitely have my wifi, nfc, gps, ect.... All off. And screen brightness down.
Thank you for any input!
If you enable data,it will consume your battery

If you're not using Ltd, go to the info menu by dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then go to phone information, and change your prefered network type. Wcdma prefered or wcdma only. That should do it for most hspa, GSM networks.
Also watch out for all the millions of crappy apps that are constantly syncing and downloading adds.
Also you can do a factory charge in the service menu.
I recommend an app like juice defender pro and configure it to only turn on data when certain apps are open or to run push checks in intervals

Not a bad idea, I've never used an app like juice defender. But might give it a try. As long as its not an app killer, I strongly believe the app killers are truly useless on android.
The best I have found is system tuner 2.5 and have set my kernel when the screen is off to run in PowerSave mode.
Settings in systemtuner:
When phone awake:
Kernel auto kill - aggressive
Max frequency - 1.52ghz
Kernel governer - on demand
When phone asleep:
Kernel auto kill - very aggressive
Max frequency - 1.00 ghz
Max freq.. In call - 2.00 ghz
Kernel governer - PowerSave
This works quite well for me as I get about 22 hr on full battery. I also use the device for my work and I have to contact and talk to about 23 ppl a day so my device is doing wonders. Hope this helps
Edit:
Forgot to mention you must be rooted and have a deodexed Rom. Also done check market for this app just Google if ya know what I mean.

I tried to adjust the radio settings like you said but they wont stick for some reason... when i choose the WCDMA preferred option or any other option for that matter it imeadiatly defaults back to the LTE preffered setting. Very strange... also what do you mean by "factory charge"

Crawling internet over data & NO Downloading

Problem:
The speeds which I get over 3g are ridiculous!! can hardly access any website, everything keeps timing out !!
I can't even download a 300 Kb File !!
Be it over Google play or any other download using the browser, I just can't download Anything.
The download starts..downloading on the notification bar..after waiting for a couple of minutes, it times out ??
Is anybody else facing this problem??
Has it got something to do with the E-988 model ??
Tries:
1.Tried switching carriers(3 different ones)>>same issue with everyone of them
2. Used the 3g/4g optimizer app along with the 3g tweak script by Zepplinrox>>NO effect
3. Tried to find a copy so that i can flash a new radio for my E-988>>couldn't find one
4. Tried using GetRIL but it said my phone is not supported.
There is Absolutely no problem with either downloading/internet access while I am using WIFI, but as soon as I switch to data, it just dies out
Any solutions/suggestions would help out a lot..
>>Took my phone down to LG service center, they said it works just fine:laugh::laugh:<<
Numerous factors depict whether or not you get a good speed when it comes to data. Location, congestion, company and location again.

Agreed man..but still, No 3G is that bad that you can't download a freaking 300 Kb file..
I assume that the radio is messed up..
waiting for someone to post native radios for Asia region..flash & try them out..

Make sure you are using the correct APN`s
It might be a good while before those modems are posted things seem slow around here. Make sure you are actually on 3G as it says 3G at the top and not 2G/E right?

APN is correct for every SIM. The problem doesn't seem to be with the provider, its either a hardware issue or maybe a software issue.
I have 3 GSM micro SIMs from 3 different providers..
The GSM signal keeps fluctuating..1 bar to 5 bars(no issue with audio quality though).
Never ever seen a 3G icon on the phone, hardly get a HSDPA(H).

It would have to be hardware. If it was software everyone else would be having the issue

Thats the thing..I took it over to LG service center. They kept it over the weekend and said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware !!
I told them it could be an issue with the receiver antenna (read it somewhere).
They said if that was the case then WIFI would be affected as well (which isn't).
I'm still confused.
Thanks for the input thiough..
will post if there is Any improvement.
same problem on f240s. wifi speed and stability is great, but mobile data is just way too slow.. i cant figure it out..
im usually stuck on "g", dont think i ever saw "3g" there.. the only thing that i think could be the problem is the 1900mhz frequency that my model doesnt have, but it has the 2100mhz frequency that my operator uses along with the 1900mhz frequency..
is there any way to resolve this? i saw some ways to convert the phone to e988. would thet help? i tried to alter things in the secret menu, but no luck. no setting worked except automatic..
