What app to turn on/off data periodically? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have 4G LTE unlimited grandfather plan on my S3. But as you all know, the battery drain pretty quick with 4G LTE. I cant even last a day with normal usuage. I am on on stock LH1 rooted rom. I've found that turn off data from the notification bar help with the battery tremendously but dont want to miss out important emails when im not near a computer.
What app/widget do you guys use to automatically turn data on and off periodically like let say on for 30 minutes then off for 30 minutes, or off/on permanently via manually override from the user?
I've searched on the market and Google but no luck..
Thanks guys!

I use switchpro widget. It has a data toggle that you can switch on and off as needed.

JuiceDefender claims to be able to do this. You can select how often data is enabled and the duration.

Batteryfu great app and free

Juicedefender just set it to activate data after you unlock the screen very helpful its under the help tab in the app.

thaks. will try it soon

any customized Samsung TW ROM with 15 toggles MOD will have Data On/Off switch.

+1 for recommending Juice Defender. I upgraded to ultimate, wasnt really necassary though you can set schedules for it to sync anywhere from reactivating your data every 5 minutes to once every couple hours and everywhere in between. Can set it to turn off your gps, wifi, blue tooth etc... Just my 2 cents

JuiceDefender is probably your best choice. I've been using it on every Android phone I've had and it gives you a great deal of customization if you upgrade to ultimate.

You can do that in settings without a third party app.

That's not what he's asking.
Your answer is juice defender or those types of apps. Like easy battery saver and Green Power.

its a question that i have been waiting for.
seems like any push data is affected because the app shuts down data to save battery.
I know you can set it so it switches on for a 1min every 15mins but if you have GTalk or constant emails being pushed, it means you wont get them until the app switches the data back on to reteive the emails/messages.
this is my understanding on how this app works.
if there is a program that auto switches ur phone to 2G when idle or screen is off, then i think this is a better solution.
This one does turn on when your screen does lol..
But earlier it stopped my data working even with screen on, i had to go into settings and disable then re enable and it worked! maybe it was cus i was at work and it tried to connect when i had no signal.. i dunno
Re: juicedefender
it's a known problem and the developer is working on a fix. I won't be using it until it is
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Is it? Whats the fix? Just turning it off and back on? Because disabling JD didnt work..

This happened to me yesterday as well. Only way I could get mobile internet back again was to reboot
Hi,
I installed JuiceDefender two days ago. Since then, I have had wifi problems. I can't be 100% sure that they are caused by JD, but I had no wifi problems before that, using several different networks.
My phone is SE Xperia X10, but I understand that the app works the same way on both phones.
The problem is:
When wifi is enabled, it takes several seconds to enter the "wireless networks" menu in settings. It then takes 20 seconds entering the "wireless settings" menu. During this period, the screen goes black. Sometimes, I get a message that the wifi app has crashed. Also: When I connect to a network, it works fine for 1-5 minutes, but after a while the phone does not seem to receive any data, even though it says "connected". The same wifi network works perfectly on my computer.
I have tried rebooting the phone, uninstalling/reinstalling JuiceDefender, etc.
Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? Any hints on how to solve the problem?
Re: juicedefender
happened again today with mobile data at work, it turned it self off. does the developer know about the bug?

I think I might just keep charging mine but leave juice installed because I like the push notifications so ill disable juice for now!
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Juicedefender is not in market anymore.
I bought this a few days ago and it has been working great but i was just prompted to update to the latest beta and nows things are not running too good.....may need to disable for a while.
uninstalled mine. just cause i wasnt getting good internet at work. seems better now. still a good app in theory. better than anything winmo had to offer.
Ive left it on but dont use it anymore.. Battery seems to have improved anyway
Re: juicedefender
the developer has released a beta to try and fix the issues. looks like the different carriers are causing problems with resuming the apn connection
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Gotta say, seems to be working without an issue on my phone
One thing i would like to know tho is that i can see the settings to change the rules for activation of wifi and apn but i would like to set these to 1m every 30mins rather than 15mins, is this possible ?
I only seem to change it to 2m for every half hour...seems to defeat the pont in changing it...What have i missed ?
It's absolutely helped my battery life. I think it's just about doubled it overall. I haven't bought the full version yet but I do intend to. Not because I want the extra features, but to support the work done on the free version - superb!

Turning off background data??

Turning off background data? Is it good to keep off for battery? I know if its off I can't use market until I turn it back on, but will every else function? Please give pros and cons thanks.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Background data is needed if you use any widget with updates also. So if you use sayyyy the weather widgets it won't sync, same with email. As far as battery life it will not make too much difference. Most items you use this for are able to be customized to an extended time.
Go in accounts and sync and adjust them. I don't use any facebook twitter or news feeds so I just turn the sync off. It will still update when you open the app.
If you want to save battery life then I suggest turning off Data when you aren't using it. Calls and texts don't use 3/4g so leaving it on only causes the battery to drain because it constantly searches for a signal. Turn data off and hook up to wifi whenever available you'll notice a HUGE difference.

Thanks man, so if I'm home on wifi with data off will I still get calls and text or no? Cause I use my phone for business and can't miss calls.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Mobile data has nothing to do with calls or text. It is strictly for internet, market, widgets ect... Today or tonight before bed. Disable data, wifi and gps and leave it unplugged. You'll be amazed at the 5-7% difference. Unless of course you have a wake issue lol.
When I worked at my last job I had no real time to sit on my phone so I walked around with data and gps off unless I needed them and no matter what Rom I flashed I got great battery life.
Edit:
If you get emails for work though remember they won't go through. Neither will MMS.

Data usage widget?

Does anyone know of a good data usage widget for hercules?
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
i used this https://market.android.com/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog
when i had a limited data plan
since i got unlimited, i totally removed it off my phone
I also use 3G Watchdog.
Works fantastic. Tells me how much data I used today/this week/this month/this cycle, and what I am trending to do for the cycle. You set your bill cycle start date and data cap limit.
I like traffic monitor better than watchdog, its just a widget but it tells youvur data usage on wifi and mobile, even which apps are using data and how much
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.radioopt.widget
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
both are good choices, but 3g wathdog is more accurate IMO, it also has backup/restore option so you can continue to monitor your data usage, eve after you wipe and flash to a new ROM
I dont think theres one that auto tracks like the droid phones. All these ones you have to enter in the info
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
define auto track, what do you mean by that?
if the apps don't auto track, then you'll never have updated accurate information
so, i've no clue what you are trying to say
data apps
3G Watchdog wasn't tracking any usage for me on this phone(because I'm not using 3G?). I installed one from the market called My Data Manager Free that is ok. It's more basic but seems to do the job. I've only been using it for 2 days, so I don't really know how accurate it is.
*Edit*I re-loaded 3g watchdog this afternoon and it seems to work fine now. Not sure why it didn't work when I loaded it the first time.
3g watchdog ou have to enter your billing cycle so it resets. I was wondering if there was one that jst tracked my data withoit me entering in anything
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
Just use the My Account app installed on the phone. Tells you how much data you have used, how many minutes talk time and SMS messages.
I have been experiencing a lot.of issues with any data monitor not working. Any ideas?? Thanks

4g turns on even with wifi set to never sleep.

FIX: freeze/remove T-mobile My Account App.
How can I prevent 4g from turning on when I use wifi? As of now, I have to use the setting menu to disable data when on wifi, other wise I get some serious battery drain.
When working properly the 4g/H icon will disappear when wifi is turned on. Sometimes it will act like its working, but when I turn the screen off and wait a few mins, upon wake the 4g/h icon is back along with the wifi symbol.
Also this has happened to me on multiple roms so it's not rom specific.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
It is most likely an app accessing 4g. Do you have tmobile my account app installed? This is what was doing it on mine - if so either freeze or uninstall it.
I actually made a thread about this a few months ago. Do u have my account installed by tmobile? If u do uninstall it or freeze it guarantee ur problem goes away
Doh! thank you both....I do have my account unfrozen...usually I freeze it. Are there any other apps that will keep 4g on?

Hard to tell without knowing which apps you have installed.
A good app to monitor that is 3g watchdog pro. The free version is good but won't tell you which apps are using how much data. It is worth the money IMO...
Feel free to use the thanks button......

All I asked was if you knew of any other problem apps. My apps are irrelevant to a static list of apps that are known to open a 4g connection.
Also, I use the classic theme here on XDA which does not have a thanks button.
So those are few and far between from me as I have to go through the trouble of changing the theme and then changing it back.
yea dude im not sure what other apps would do that but i had the same troubles as u when i first got the phone did some of my own research and investigating and that is what i found.....tmobile my account is not ready for prime time or tmobile is trying to watch are data through an app which i seriously believe. anyways when i ditched that app everything was good wifi connects when it should and 4g never comes on when wifi is on. so everytime i flash a different rom i freeze that app and if i want to know what my data usage is i unfreeze it for a minute check it then refreeze
hope i helped

Any app that will auto manage WiFi and Mobile data?

I used Juice Defender in the past and I liked it, then tried GreenPower Premium but didn't like it...
I mainly need an app that will automatically turn on WiFi (if it's available) at a set time intervals to sync emails and such and when WiFi is not available, turn on Mobile Data to sync. And then disconnect either of them to save battery power.
No, I don't want Tasker or similar.
Can you suggest me anything?
Why don't you want Tasker or something similar? I use Llama to turn on my wifi when I get home and turn it off when I leave.
