Does anyone know of a good data usage widget for hercules?
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
i used this https://market.android.com/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog
when i had a limited data plan
since i got unlimited, i totally removed it off my phone
I also use 3G Watchdog.
Works fantastic. Tells me how much data I used today/this week/this month/this cycle, and what I am trending to do for the cycle. You set your bill cycle start date and data cap limit.
I like traffic monitor better than watchdog, its just a widget but it tells youvur data usage on wifi and mobile, even which apps are using data and how much

both are good choices, but 3g wathdog is more accurate IMO, it also has backup/restore option so you can continue to monitor your data usage, eve after you wipe and flash to a new ROM
I dont think theres one that auto tracks like the droid phones. All these ones you have to enter in the info
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
define auto track, what do you mean by that?
if the apps don't auto track, then you'll never have updated accurate information
so, i've no clue what you are trying to say
data apps
3G Watchdog wasn't tracking any usage for me on this phone(because I'm not using 3G?). I installed one from the market called My Data Manager Free that is ok. It's more basic but seems to do the job. I've only been using it for 2 days, so I don't really know how accurate it is.
*Edit*I re-loaded 3g watchdog this afternoon and it seems to work fine now. Not sure why it didn't work when I loaded it the first time.
3g watchdog ou have to enter your billing cycle so it resets. I was wondering if there was one that jst tracked my data withoit me entering in anything

Just use the My Account app installed on the phone. Tells you how much data you have used, how many minutes talk time and SMS messages.
I have been experiencing a lot.of issues with any data monitor not working. Any ideas?? Thanks

The only one I found is "GPRS Monitor", which looks excellent, but doesn't work on Galaxy S...
Anyone knows a similar program that works on Galaxy S ?
I'm using 3g Watchdog works well.
I'm fine with DroidStats for the moment. You could also try Call Meter NG or Plan Monitor Widget. If you're just lookin' for traffic stats, i think 3G Watchdog is the way to go. There are several more, I think.
I use 3G watchdog as well, its all you need!
NetCounter also does the job
Using 3g Watchdog as well but is there an app which measures how many minutes one has been on 3G?
I am testing now Smart Monitor Lite. It is monitoring Mobile and Wi-fi Traffic( daily and monthly)Banwdwidth not suported. Available at Market

To my knowledge minutes aren't the issue with regards to 3G, only the bandwidth that you eat dictates how much money your network provider takes out of your bank account.
Installed 3g watchdog....works fine, thx

Try googling the netcounter-0.14.1.apk. It is free.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, will try the other apps you guys posted. I know its the amount of data that you use while surfing with 3G is what your going to get billed for but where I come from, they have promos wherein there is a flat rate/cost for 15 mins of 3G usage.
Currently I use 3G watchdog. But it doesnt exactly serve my purpose.
My plan gives me 1GB day time free usage and 5GB night time free usage in a month.
Day time = 7am-11pm
Night time = 11pm-6.59am.
So basically I get billed if I cross 1GB during day time (over a month) or 5GB during night time.
Does anyone here know of any app that can keep time-of-the-day based data counters. Basically, I need 2 counters which keep logging activity based on different timings.
Please let me know if you know such an app.
Thanks in advance.
well a few monts back i started using roms that had ciq removed...
i just checked my usage data and its saying im using next to no data now...
can anyone else who has been using a nociq rom check your data rates and confirm.?
im not sure why its saying im not using data but ill deff take it haha
attached is a pic of my data usage...
Yeah. Im pretty sure it also stops them from being able to see dropped Calls and all that stuff as well.

CIQ does use data, but probably not that much.
Sent from my Epic 4G Touch using Tapatalk.
Pretty sure that removing CIQ won't hide your data usage, but I have no idea why your data use would drop off like that. Is that graph for overall data use, or just 3g? Maybe you've been consuming mostly 4g data, or wifi, or roaming.
Based on my limited understanding, I'd compare this to a car's odometer vs. a car with GPS tracking.
Like a GPS tracker, CIQ allows Sprint to see your data is going and what you do (or something). Without GPS your car's odometer still shows how many miles have driven, but that's it. Sprint can still tell how much data you use if you remove CIQ, but for better or worse, they don't get any other diagnostic or personal information from your phone.
EDIT: I attached screenshots from my Sprint control panel of 3g and 4g consumption. Looks like I'm using LESS 3g but I think that's more related to me getting a micro SD card (not having to stream all my music) than anything with CIQ.
Mine is only 3g and I'm always roaming.. so that is a'll data consumption

I just switched to ATT, and got their Galaxy S3. I love my new service and love the GS3, but of course, I'm on the Mobile Share plan with another person. I use the data-usage monitor to monitor data usage so I don't run into overage. I had been running it since I got the phone on September 20, but just a few hours ago, it self-erased and went back to zero, even tho I had the data cycle going from September 20-October 19. ??? Why did it happen, and what can I do? Has anyone else run into this glitch?
Just dial *3282# (*DATA#) in the dialer, it will tell you your data usage straight from att. It is much more accurate. Not sure why the counter erased itself but it is kinda inaccurate at times anyhow and that could get you into overages. Dialing the code I sent you will get a free text sent to your phone with current data usage. There are other codes for minutes used and such as well, Google them if your curious.
Edit: att also offers an app in the play store that reports your data/text/minutes usage as recorded by att, where's as the on phone data counter records usage on the phone itself which is why it often differs from the way att themselves records data usage.

thanks, but am I the only one experiencing this glitch? I hope I don't have a defective phone or something. Has anyone else with ICS experienced this?

It has happened to me from time to time, I've always looked at that feature as more of a novelty and never really worried about it though. If I was you I wouldn't really worry really either, it's software, it glitches here and there. At least it's glitching a non vital part of the phone lol.

hate looking at the data meter.
reminder of how "unlimited data" isn't truly unlimited.
/rant
Self erased data usage.
This happened to me as well twice.
1)
I realized that the data was still there until I started to sync with my TiBu to dropbox/google drive. Then my data went to 0 on the charts.
I was still able to see the data used per app, but nothing shows on the charts.
Although it may not be accurate I use this feature a lot. I would just like to know what makes it reset on its own?
My cycle is on the 2nd of each month and I lost it on the 15th.
2)
Another issue is the vertical lines that shows you data used on each time period. I would like it to default to my cycle (so i dont have to readjust everytime) How do I do that.
Thinking back.......I think I did have my cycle set as the 15th, but that was changed a long time ago.
Could it be possible that the change only takes effect after the cycle is complete?
For example
Jan 1, 2000. I set my cycle to the 10th of every month.
Jan 2, 2000 I change it to 25th of every month.
I think it will still reset on the 10th?
Bump

*Edit* The problem was found to be with Titanium backup and how it reports data usage by apps after you restore it. I have contacted the developer for investigation.

So, I have Tasker installed on my Nexus just for simple automation that turns on Wi-Fi tether when my phone's Bluetooth pairs with my car stereo (which is also Android) so I can stream Internet radio etc.
I've been noticing lately that my data has been transmitting a lot when my phone has been sitting idle so I did some investigation and found that Tasker has sent over 2GB of data this month alone. This is more than I've used while tethered! I can't think of any valid reason as to why it would need to send that much data (if any at all) so I am highly suspicious of this app. Anyone else using Tasker? Can you check your data usage to see if you're seeing the same?

The POS mobile app isn't uploading pictures. I will post from my pc in a bit.

You can disable using background data on data usage settings. But really, its a weird case. Mine not using any data at all...

Unfortunately it's 99% foreground data which means I can't block it. There shouldn't be any reason for this app to send/receive data from my phone. The only other app that uses more data is YouTube which is valid since I use it all the time. Here's the pic:
OK, this is crazy.
I just went back and checked the previous months of Tasker data usage
September: 4.0GB
August: 3.36GB (date installed was August 7th)
WTF is going on?!
If I was you I would wipe everything including SD card and start from scratch. Def seems a bit fishy...
under settings..accessibility..services tasker is it on or off?
It is off.

There's some setting to disable/enable external apps from controlling Tasker. Do you have that enabled? If so, try disabling.
What kinda tasks have you configured? Anything that uploads photos or something?

Did you get install Tasker directly from Play Store? If so, might be worth to contact the developer and ask about this. I have this application running in the background for a couple of months now and haven't got this issue.

Did you Titanium back up and restore the system data for "Data Usage". Youtube, my highest data usage app turned into another random app after backing up my Data Usage from stock rom and restoring to Rasbean Jelly.

I only have 1 task configured that pretty much reads like this (logically)
When paired to BTxxx turn on WiFi Tether, End statement=disable tether
That's it.
I haven't changed any of the default settings in Tasker except to remove the lightning bolt from my notification bar. I just unfroze the app. The setting 'Allow External Access' is disabled.

I did download it from the Play Store. I have been in contact with the developer and we haven't narrowed down what the cause could be.

I did do a restore of data usage when I moved over from CNA to Paranoid so you may be on to something here. In your case, do you show any YouTube traffic as well, or has it all been shifted to the random app?
Thanks.
OK, I think I've found the problem. It appears to be a bug in Titanium backup and restoring the usage statistics.
I have also done a restore of my data use after flashing a new ROM so I did some further testing after unfreezing Tasker for a couple of days and everything appears to be fine in that there is no data use being reported.
Thanks for the suggestion Akash3656. I am going to report my findings to the author of Titanium backup.

I have a stock HTC Evo 4G on 2.3.2 that I've hooked up to a 1gb data plan, its filling a kind of specialized role for me, only 1 app installed on which it uses about 20-30mb a day. The problem I'm having is checking my usage I noticed I was way overshooting that daily mark, I installed a data tracking app and discovered that between system.root and system.shell, I'm losing well over double the amount of data that my app is using. System.root is consistently pulling about 110% of what my app does, and system.shell is pulling about 50%, for a combined waste of 160%, I have no idea what its using this data on. Is there some way I could fix this? 2.3.2 has incredibly spartan data controls and I can't seem to find a 3rd party app that can regulate data, they all just track usage. I'm open to flashing a Rom if it'll help, but I've been out of that since my Droid X days so I'm pretty rusty.
Example: typical usage session: 45 minute timespan, app uses 5mb, system.root uses 7, system.shell uses 2.
Turn off background data in settings and you should be fine. It may have affect on other applications you use that require background data like gmail and weather apps. So be mindful of that. I hope I helped some.
