*Edit* The problem was found to be with Titanium backup and how it reports data usage by apps after you restore it. I have contacted the developer for investigation.

So, I have Tasker installed on my Nexus just for simple automation that turns on Wi-Fi tether when my phone's Bluetooth pairs with my car stereo (which is also Android) so I can stream Internet radio etc.
I've been noticing lately that my data has been transmitting a lot when my phone has been sitting idle so I did some investigation and found that Tasker has sent over 2GB of data this month alone. This is more than I've used while tethered! I can't think of any valid reason as to why it would need to send that much data (if any at all) so I am highly suspicious of this app. Anyone else using Tasker? Can you check your data usage to see if you're seeing the same?

The POS mobile app isn't uploading pictures. I will post from my pc in a bit.

You can disable using background data on data usage settings. But really, its a weird case. Mine not using any data at all...

Unfortunately it's 99% foreground data which means I can't block it. There shouldn't be any reason for this app to send/receive data from my phone. The only other app that uses more data is YouTube which is valid since I use it all the time. Here's the pic:
OK, this is crazy.
I just went back and checked the previous months of Tasker data usage
September: 4.0GB
August: 3.36GB (date installed was August 7th)
WTF is going on?!
If I was you I would wipe everything including SD card and start from scratch. Def seems a bit fishy...
under settings..accessibility..services tasker is it on or off?
It is off.

There's some setting to disable/enable external apps from controlling Tasker. Do you have that enabled? If so, try disabling.
What kinda tasks have you configured? Anything that uploads photos or something?

Did you get install Tasker directly from Play Store? If so, might be worth to contact the developer and ask about this. I have this application running in the background for a couple of months now and haven't got this issue.

Did you Titanium back up and restore the system data for "Data Usage". Youtube, my highest data usage app turned into another random app after backing up my Data Usage from stock rom and restoring to Rasbean Jelly.

I only have 1 task configured that pretty much reads like this (logically)
When paired to BTxxx turn on WiFi Tether, End statement=disable tether
That's it.
I haven't changed any of the default settings in Tasker except to remove the lightning bolt from my notification bar. I just unfroze the app. The setting 'Allow External Access' is disabled.

I did download it from the Play Store. I have been in contact with the developer and we haven't narrowed down what the cause could be.

I did do a restore of data usage when I moved over from CNA to Paranoid so you may be on to something here. In your case, do you show any YouTube traffic as well, or has it all been shifted to the random app?
Thanks.
OK, I think I've found the problem. It appears to be a bug in Titanium backup and restoring the usage statistics.
I have also done a restore of my data use after flashing a new ROM so I did some further testing after unfreezing Tasker for a couple of days and everything appears to be fine in that there is no data use being reported.
Thanks for the suggestion Akash3656. I am going to report my findings to the author of Titanium backup.

Does anyone know of a good data usage widget for hercules?
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
i used this https://market.android.com/details?id=net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog
when i had a limited data plan
since i got unlimited, i totally removed it off my phone
I also use 3G Watchdog.
Works fantastic. Tells me how much data I used today/this week/this month/this cycle, and what I am trending to do for the cycle. You set your bill cycle start date and data cap limit.
I like traffic monitor better than watchdog, its just a widget but it tells youvur data usage on wifi and mobile, even which apps are using data and how much
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.radioopt.widget
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
both are good choices, but 3g wathdog is more accurate IMO, it also has backup/restore option so you can continue to monitor your data usage, eve after you wipe and flash to a new ROM
I dont think theres one that auto tracks like the droid phones. All these ones you have to enter in the info
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
define auto track, what do you mean by that?
if the apps don't auto track, then you'll never have updated accurate information
so, i've no clue what you are trying to say
data apps
3G Watchdog wasn't tracking any usage for me on this phone(because I'm not using 3G?). I installed one from the market called My Data Manager Free that is ok. It's more basic but seems to do the job. I've only been using it for 2 days, so I don't really know how accurate it is.
*Edit*I re-loaded 3g watchdog this afternoon and it seems to work fine now. Not sure why it didn't work when I loaded it the first time.
3g watchdog ou have to enter your billing cycle so it resets. I was wondering if there was one that jst tracked my data withoit me entering in anything
Sent from my HercuBEAST!!!
Just use the My Account app installed on the phone. Tells you how much data you have used, how many minutes talk time and SMS messages.
I have been experiencing a lot.of issues with any data monitor not working. Any ideas?? Thanks

On data?
I've tried both Avast firewall and Droidwall, checking off different apps each time, but they all ended up connecting to the internet as if they were never blocked.
But when I switched to wifi, the filter/blacklist works again.
Is anyone having similar problems or ICS comes with a secret function of bypassing firewall on data?
I'm running stock ICS 4.02, rooted of course. Thanks
Update: I found out that if I uncheck set mobile data limit under data usage, all my firewall apps work again.
So could anyone confirm/find out if this newly implemented function in ICS kinda interferes with the firewall filters used in most apps now?
Firewall
I haven't used anything else but eNETraffic. Works great if you notice to switch firewall on

Thanks. I will try it when I get home.
Just wondering if anyone had similar problems or knows what's the problem here.
Edit: It's not working too.
OMG this is driving me nuts, together with the 20% battery drain/hour.

I've Galaxy nexus also, and was facing your problem, but thanks to your update below, yes, if you uncheck the data limit box the firewall works fine (I'm using droidwall)
LBE ....
LBE Privacy Guard works with with Data Limit on or off. Not had any problems with it and been running for a couple of weeks now. Always used to use Droidwall before this issues.
Details on the issue with Droidwall and a manual fix here
LBE - here
I played a few videos over 3G on Youtube yesterday, most of them in HD.. however when I go in Data Usage the Youtube app only shows 300 kb of data usage, wtf?
I manually updated to the latest version (3.5.5), not sure if it was working prior to that since this is the first time I checked.
Try another app perhaps? Then you'll know if it's bug...anyway would go with your instinct...
You can also confirm with your network provider and check your balance

were you on wifi?
You need to enable the wifi tab to check wifi data usage.

No I was on 3G, total data usage shows 55 MB used but when you add up the total from the apps shown it gives around 10-12MB.. I remeber reading about a similar issue a while back.
I filed a bug about the same thing with Pandora a while ago, could be related?

Does anyone know if the automatic backup built into the settings uses mobile data when its turned on? Or maybe how data intensive it is? I want it on but I get by on a 200MB plan right now because I am on wifi at work and at home. I'm guessing the data it sends is small but I would hate for it to blow me up with like 100MB mobile data before I realize it. Thanks

It does it over data and / or wifi... but what it's backing up is so small you won't have any issues... You'll be fine....
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it only backs up a list of what you have installed rather than the actual apps. This drastically reduces the backup size, so you shouldn't have a problem with keeping this option on. If you ever have to restore your phone, it just downloads those apps from the play store (that way you can control whether or not you restore over wifi).
I suspected that might be the case. Thanks for the help!

Hi,
When I'm using Wi-Fi, in the background large amount of data is transmitted, even when I have turned off auto synchronization.
That's the reason why, i don't want to use data transmission provided by my GSM operator. Is there any application, which will give me a control over every application which is trying to use internet? Application asking me if I want allow this application to use data transmision, or asking how i want to realize this connection, by Wi-Fi or data transmission?
Do you know any apps, or any solutions?
I don't know any apps, but may be the solution, do you have auto backup feature turned on? It's in backup and reset.
Usually everything like your settings and password are backed up all the time to Google servers. Turn it off, it might work.
