Is there an easy guide to show how to compile CM10? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I am interested in making my own build since it seems like every build is missing one or two features I like. I would request the features but of course no dev takes request. So can any one help me out. I really have very limited experience with Ubuntu but I do have it running on a machine and I assume that's what I need to be running. Thanks for your help.

CM7 Port

I'm going to attempt to port CM7 to our T989's. I've never started a port from scratch but worked on some Android->WM ports in the past.
From what I've read, it looks like the best way to port to a new device is to start with generic CM7 source and add our stock kernel. Then check what works and fix what's broken one step at a time.
If there are any expert devs out there that would be willing to lend a hand I would be grateful. If anyone knows a better method of porting, please let me know.
This is low priority with my current workload and a new baby at home but I enjoy learning.
Thats pretty much how I've ported themes in the past. I'll be happy to test for you
Nice to see people wanting to step up. Honestly though, im pretty sure CM7 is being worked on by very experienced devs. Spend time with your baby

Well I'll keep compiling but I'll keep the testing to myself... I doubt I'll have anything better than the experienced devs.

A guide for making custom ROMS

Hey all,
Since I still have ages till I go back to university I was thinking of starting to make my own custom roms to share with the xda community as a part time thing. But what I wanted to know is what are the requirements for this, do you need to have good skills in software programming or can anyone make their own roms with little or no experience in programming at all. As for me I do have some knowledge and experience in Java and C as it was part of my degree for the first two years but i wouldn't say i'm an expert just good enough i guess lol. So is there like a guide or something out there which would help newbies like me to get on the right path of making custom roms. I dont want to start off big just something basic like a rom that has smooth performance and good battery life and once i get the jist of things i'll step it up a level and allow the user to tweak their rom like the viper roms and what not and just build it up from there.
Many thanks.

AOSP ROM

I have been looking for an AOSP ROM for the SGH-T889, but I have not found one yet. Does anyone know of an AOSP build for the Note II?
I haven't found any, so I wanted to build my own. It seems like all that I need is to:
1) get the AOSP source from google
2) copy drivers from opensource.samsung.com/ (search for sgh-t889) into the AOSP tree.
3) build
4) install
Is this all that needs to be done? Or is there more that is needed to do this? I have built ASOP for Nexus S, but not for anything else.
im pretty sure it's more complicated than that. but again i don't know **** about that lol.
I wish I had some free time to try it out. Hopefully this weekend I can explore it more.

Thanks for link. It looks like aokp doesn't have note II support yet though. Or did I miss something?
Just found this which may be helpful.

Does anyone think there would be any problem running this on an sgh-t889 instead of a n7100?
I wish xda wouldn't limit you to 10 posts before you can post in development threads.

They should make it 30 so you can't do stuff like this.

No, if it was 30 I would just make 20 more BS posts. If it was 0 then I could immediately make posts that were relevant.

brashmadcap said that cuz where you posted btw fail lol j/k -------->Mods sorry
@NeilMonday - Chit-chat posts do NOT belong into the development boards. I suggest you make yourself familiar with our rules before posting fancy stuff into the wrong sections.
Thread moved to General.
How about you educate yourself so you don't have to rely on others? Js

Unfortunately its not that easy to build AOSP ROMs for devices like these. Source from samsung may contain some drivers but not all of them since OEMs tend to hold some back. You would have to fix such problems which honestly is a headache. You would also need to build a working kernel.
If you want an AOSP ROM just get a Nexus because this is not a device for AOSP ROMs. You will lose the functionality of the s-pen or other features you liked when you got this device unless they are ported(which again, is a headache to do!).

Damn, wish i would have read that before I got this phone. Still UBER happy with my selection, just wish I would have researched on that a little more.
Too bad about sammy not providing any documentation on the exynos chip.

Good news is samsung is already starting to open source the exynos chipset, they listened to the developer community and have already responded.

After installing a couple of the N7100 roms (CM 10 and an AOKP versions), It seems like there are a few things that don't work so far like the camera and cell/data. I think the cell/data should be fixable since the Nexus 4 and the SGH-T889 use the same baseband (MDM9215)?

Sure this isn't the only problem, but its a start. Thoughts?

I need a stable Rom

Hey, i tried out JellyBam and i keep getting weird things like internet connection problems and sometimes it will go into safe mode. Can someone tell me which roms will be good for a daily driver with the least amounts of bugs?

I personally got freegs3.... Love the stock look and very stable.

I love using Team Sonic-FreeGS3. I started using them from their JBv1 and currently on v3. I have yet to have any major issues with it.

Well it depends, most roms will be fine if they are <= the version of the current Samsung release, but if they are higher, than you can expect things like 4G and some other misc things not working because these things have to be built from source and its harder to get working when there is no foundation to work off of. Just a general tip for any Android phone

ROMs are very personal preference oriented. I could tell you that FreeGS3 is awesome, but you could find things that you don't like about it.
Everyone has their own preference.
The idea is to either find the one that you like JUST ABOUT everything in and everything that YOU do works in it and stick with it or eventually just make your own. I'm going to guess that you're not quite that informed on the topic of cooking ROMs. Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying you're incompetent in any way, just drawing the conclusion that if you were attuned to it, you'd probably not be asking here and already be making it the way you like Besides, it's no easy feat, I know.
So, instead of taking someone else's word... I would suggest simply getting a good Titanium Backup of your stuff and start swapping out ROMs here and there and just trying them out for a day or two, see how it works out.
If it's not quite what you want, just try another one.
Now if you care for my opinion, personally, I've found that FreeGS3 works for me because it has a nice mix of the Stock Look and Feel with all the extra added feature sets.
I recommend team shotgun! The best rom it has all the Google apps stocked!

[Q] can you combine roms?

I have flash 4-5 different ROMs since I finally rooted my HTC one. I noticed I like a lot of features n everyone but they always seam to be missing other features I want. Can take some features from one rom and keep them when I flash a new ROM.
I'm still new and learning. Also us there an easier way to keep my apps each time I flash?
If you learned how to code, yeah. Otherwise you can't really. Porting mods can be quite difficult, some more so than others.

If I've helped, please hit the thanks button
Use titanium backup for apps. It works great. As for your other statement, that's why people cook roms for personal use. If you have time and patience you can figure it out.
