Does itnremove carrier restrictions like wifu tethering or the fact that gw is blocked by att for isis

No rooting itself, but there are mods after for tethering, not sure what the other part of your question is.

Lol sorry. Tethering is blocked off cause of the whole verifying through att ****. But would unlocking it take that off? Guessing not qas a wild guess.

Unlocking your phone does not remove carrier restrictions. It simply lets you use different carriers on your device. However, once you root your phone, you can install the tethering mod on your phone via CWM.

if you want tethering without AT&T knowing about it, pick up FoxFi or Elixer Widget.
both these are free, and basically toggle your Wi-Fi HotSpot settings, without going into settings. and because these apps toggle the setting for you, it somehow bypasses the verifying with AT&T.
have fun.

Unfortunately these don't work any longer after the latest OTA update. Still searching for a viable replacement, but so far I've had zero luck.

Rooting on its own, won't do anything, but freezing or deleting the tethering manager or the tethering provision (if you're on stock ICS) should get the job done.
Now keep in mind that T-Mobile's tethering detection works by detecting your browser agent. Therefore if you're tethering another android phone, then they won't know (unless they were to inspect packets of data, which they don't do) but if tethering to a PC it's best to install a Web Browser agent switch, so they think that you're really using your Android browser.
Now keep in mind that you're doing this completely on your own risk. It should work, but if they catch you, then there might be consequences.
I am coming from the HTC One X and it was an easy fix to change an entry using SQLEditor. Anyone know how to get it working on the Note 2?
Try Foxfi in the marketplace.

I tried Foxfi and couldn't get the wifi hotspot to turn on. I don't have a bluetooth device to try the other way.

You must be paying for it
Or he could be using a canadian version of the phone
Yes Canadian. It's included.

It's included in my plan as well and I'm on AT&T. Not sure if it's a Premier thing though, but my data plan came with hotspot as part of it, and it's not the data sharing plan.
When I tried to enable it, it told me to call 611 to activate it.
+1 for foxfi on ATT.
AT&T will force you to give up unlimited data plans to enable this from them and it's another $15 USD / month. I believe the context of the OP is without carrier plan.
If you have no unlimited data and can stomach the $15/mo, more power to you.
Foxfi doesn't work for me but I found a way to get native tethering work on this phone but your phone has to be rooted to do that:
1. First you need to delete TetherProvision.apk system app. Either by root explorer or TB. Removing this might cause a FC when you try to turn Mobile Hotspot on in Settings (happened to me) but keep on reading.
2. Go to Google Play store and install Power Toggle and add the Wifi tether widget to your Homescreen.
3. Boom ^_^.
Excellent! Thank you for finding this.
Or flash 15 toggles from the Development thread. Mobile Hotpot built in + flash light and others

I am currently using Clean Rom 3.1 and I do jot see this feature. I kinda need it but do not want to pay extra for tethering. Or at least, is there an app that does this.

Most of the custom roms have the native hotspot active without the carrier file tracking. Whether or not the carrier 'catches' you and sends you onenof their nice cease or have your plan changed letters is up for grabs. I have tethered successfully on numerous occasions and yet to see one. But, I don't go wild on it. Usually it is when I need to do something at work that requires using my laptop and i am not near an Internet source.
Foxfi is a good substitute. Go their website to get it the carriers have seemed to have blocked it in playstore. Used it while I was stock with no problems.

There isn't any ROM that doesn't have it built in. It's under wireless + networks -≥ More. If its been disabled then download wireless tether for root users or WiFi tether for root users. The wireless version supports Bluetooth.
I was wondering if I were to delete the att apps (att hotspots, att nav. etc.) Would that cause any unwanted side effects?
Sent from my LT28at using XDA Free mobile app
Dont know what you mean by delete? If you mean disable? No, it will not hurt to disable those apps. Those are on just about every att phone. There are lists every where showing you what apps you can disable. Just goole em and you will see. If your rooted. There is a very good app called systemCleanup that will tell what apps are safe. Either way you choose. Both are good options. Search or systemCleanup.

Just disable those apps if You are not sure. Mostly these apps will show "problems if uninstalled" as they are installed via Your update directly, but don't cause any issues if uninstalled. You can always experiment by taking backup of the app, then uninstall it. If nothing is wrong, then fine, else You can restore them.
Disabling them caused no issues but what I am really trying to do I get control of my hotspot/tethering without the need of an app like foxfi when I try to turn them on, please contact att, but since my phone is unlocked and I am not with att there is nothing they can do.
Sent from my LT28at using XDA Free mobile app
Yes, if your trying to use the hotspot in settings thats going to happen. That is tied in directly to your phone. Which is a att phone. You are essentially running a att rom. The only other way that I would know of. Would be to use a different carrier rom. But then you open up to other issues that would not be good. Just stick with foxfi. Be happy it works. For alot of us. It no longer does.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T217A using XDA Free mobile app
I figured that was the case, anyway, I really like the foxfi app because it hides your tethering usage from your carrier

So far I have tried wifi tether router, zip fix to remove provisions, changing apn settings, adding dun to the stock apn, tried wifi tether from the thread here at XDA. And not a damn thing has worked. This is getting ridiculous what other options are there to get around the annoying up sell page?

Xposed framework and x tether works great for me
Pdanet works great for me . Only through usb . Bluetooth gets detected . Just check the option to hide tether usage in task bar icon

Thanks I'll try emailing him. and @sevenslugs whats the name of the APN to try I only have LTE, tether (which doesn't stick) and IMS which I have no idea what that is.
If you are using tweaked you should have a "NoLTE" apn for tethering

Just tried. Unless I am doing something wrong it's not working. I installed the module and everything and since it says there's no UI for it all you do is install and use native tethering or what?

Yeah that's exactly what I did and when I tether it has never reported more than a few mbs and that's steaming Netflix
I'll try next month when my bill renews i might be having the issue since I'm already at the limit
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Free mobile app
I'm on Effortless rom and have unlimited tether. Just flash the rom and the SD and tether fix zip. Then, follow the instructions. Go to APN and reset to default and restart your phone. After that, turn on your hotspot and go back to APN and click on the T-mobile Tether APN. Give it a few seconds and it'll automatically switch back to the T-mobile US LTE APN and you should have unlimited tether. You'll have to click on the Tether APN every time you want to tether. This method works for me.

Ding Ding Ding - winner winner chicken dinner -
THAT is exactly what the problem is and I cant understand why nobody on this website (and on these similar threads) have no clue about this, all suggesting 50 solutions, none of which work cause tmo already turned OFF their hotspot after 5g.
NONE of these suggestions are actual "hotspots", they just reroute, or mask the tethered data so it's not reported. These "fixes" do not fix the fact tmo turned off their hotspot after 5g tether.
Once ur new billing cycle starts, ALL these suggestions will work, but until then, NONE of them will work.
Fortunately for myself, I have an unlocked att N3, and I use the att hotspot (which of course does NOT talk to tmo), so I can tether to my hearts content without jumping thru all these stupid and frustrating hoops that the OP is going thru right now -
So OP, u can keep trying all this crap every month, or simply flash the ATT rom on ur N3, and then turn on the blue att hotspot, (instead of using the metered pink tmo hotspot). Then u will be truly unlimited with no tethering limits -

Why would you say something so stupid?
That is EXACTLY how it works, and my billing cycle just ended last week on the 4th, and I used 289.4GB
So how do you explain me getting past tmo's 5g tether limit, month after month, after month !!!
