Any other suggestions for tether limit? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

So far I have tried wifi tether router, zip fix to remove provisions, changing apn settings, adding dun to the stock apn, tried wifi tether from the thread here at XDA. And not a damn thing has worked. This is getting ridiculous what other options are there to get around the annoying up sell page?

Xposed framework and x tether works great for me

Pdanet works great for me . Only through usb . Bluetooth gets detected . Just check the option to hide tether usage in task bar icon

What apn is selected?

The normal t-mobile apn is the only one that works if I select the tethering one it automatically switches back to the LTE apn when my data reconnects

Thanks I'll try emailing him. and @sevenslugs whats the name of the APN to try I only have LTE, tether (which doesn't stick) and IMS which I have no idea what that is.

If you are using tweaked you should have a "NoLTE" apn for tethering

Just tried. Unless I am doing something wrong it's not working. I installed the module and everything and since it says there's no UI for it all you do is install and use native tethering or what?

Yeah that's exactly what I did and when I tether it has never reported more than a few mbs and that's steaming Netflix

I'll try next month when my bill renews i might be having the issue since I'm already at the limit

I'm on Effortless rom and have unlimited tether. Just flash the rom and the SD and tether fix zip. Then, follow the instructions. Go to APN and reset to default and restart your phone. After that, turn on your hotspot and go back to APN and click on the T-mobile Tether APN. Give it a few seconds and it'll automatically switch back to the T-mobile US LTE APN and you should have unlimited tether. You'll have to click on the Tether APN every time you want to tether. This method works for me.

THAT is exactly what the problem is and I cant understand why nobody on this website (and on these similar threads) have no clue about this, all suggesting 50 solutions, none of which work cause tmo already turned OFF their hotspot after 5g.
NONE of these suggestions are actual "hotspots", they just reroute, or mask the tethered data so it's not reported. These "fixes" do not fix the fact tmo turned off their hotspot after 5g tether.
Once ur new billing cycle starts, ALL these suggestions will work, but until then, NONE of them will work.
Fortunately for myself, I have an unlocked att N3, and I use the att hotspot (which of course does NOT talk to tmo), so I can tether to my hearts content without jumping thru all these stupid and frustrating hoops that the OP is going thru right now -
So OP, u can keep trying all this crap every month, or simply flash the ATT rom on ur N3, and then turn on the blue att hotspot, (instead of using the metered pink tmo hotspot). Then u will be truly unlimited with no tethering limits -

That is EXACTLY how it works, and my billing cycle just ended last week on the 4th, and I used 289.4GB
So how do you explain me getting past tmo's 5g tether limit, month after month, after month !!!

[Q] T-mobile wifi hotspot bypass??

Just got my Galaxy S3 today and upgraded from mytouch 4g, im on t-mobile's 4g prepaid plan with unlimted everything (5gig 4g data). on my mytouch i didnt need to pay for tethering service but now im trying to connect my itouch to my wifi hotspot on the s3 and it doesnt work.....would anyone happen to know a workaround or fix for this??
p.s. im not paying tmobile for tethering service
Thanks all
Its working for me. I thought the 5GB plan included the T-Mobile HotSpot app, the guy at the store this morning offered me a 2GB plan for $20 or a $35 5GB plan with tethering.
Thinking you probably need root.

I do have the app it's just that when I turn it on and connect with another device it redirects to a page that tells me I need to add the service from T-Mobile...I have been skeptical about rooting as I've never done it before, can anyone confirm that this will solve my problem??

You have to change your user agent on the PC side. I reccomend Firefox with the add on called "user agent switcher". No matter what don't use internet explorer, immediate giveaway.
Here's my current one as an example:
Mozilla/5.0 Linux U Android 4.0.4 en-us Galaxy Nexus Build/IMM76I CyanogenMod-9 AppleWebKit/534.30 KHTML, like Gecko Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30
Here an example of what will get ur ass redirected to the tmo up sell page:
IE 7 ? Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30)2011-10-16 20:20:09
Hope this helps

If all else fails you could also use PdaNet and use the "hide tether usage" option.
Try using Firefox. Works for me even when Chrome redirects.

Has anyone figured out enabling tethering yet?

It's included in my plan as well and I'm on AT&T. Not sure if it's a Premier thing though, but my data plan came with hotspot as part of it, and it's not the data sharing plan.
When I tried to enable it, it told me to call 611 to activate it.
+1 for foxfi on ATT.
AT&T will force you to give up unlimited data plans to enable this from them and it's another $15 USD / month. I believe the context of the OP is without carrier plan.
If you have no unlimited data and can stomach the $15/mo, more power to you.
Foxfi doesn't work for me but I found a way to get native tethering work on this phone but your phone has to be rooted to do that:
1. First you need to delete TetherProvision.apk system app. Either by root explorer or TB. Removing this might cause a FC when you try to turn Mobile Hotspot on in Settings (happened to me) but keep on reading.
2. Go to Google Play store and install Power Toggle and add the Wifi tether widget to your Homescreen.
3. Boom ^_^.
Excellent! Thank you for finding this.
Or flash 15 toggles from the Development thread. Mobile Hotpot built in + flash light and others

Try doing it with Open security, change the SSID and if you are using Win 7 make sure you select a profile (home, work, public) it will take a few seconds before it will work even though it is connected and assigned an IP. Also try it on something else, it make be your computer and not the phone.
Also, I find it odd that it only shows up as an Ad-Hoc Network? not an actual AP like normal
Hmm, I'm have the same problem with my Nexus 4. I'm with rogers and I used the sim from my Galaxy Nexus in my Nexus 4. Using the built in tethering Wifi and USB works on my Galaxy Nexus, but the on the Nexus 4, devices can connect but no data is transferred even though data is working.
The only thing I can think of is because I'm using the rogers LTE APN on the N4 but the normal APN on the GN.
Could this be caused by the straight talk APN that I am using? I am having he same type of situation. It connects but no data is transferred.

if you tether LTE plan, will you get LTE speeds on the other connecting phones? or just the original host LTE phone
so anyone else have Straight talk and get this to work?
I had the same problem (with T-Mobile), adding "dun" as mayastig suggested did the trick.
Specifically, the APN type for epc.tmobile.com now reads "default, supl, mss, dun".
Sorry to be off the straight talk topic.. don't know about that but I am on the $30 tmob plan.
I just really need to tether maybe twice a month and I can't see spending $15 on that. My question is, of I do it using fox will tmob find out and ban me or something?

(Q) free wifi tethering

So I went to the (how to guide) here and it describes how to get it with the wifi tether app and being rooted... well ive done that mate.... and I check my t-mobile account and it still uses my 2.5 gigs of free wifi tethering.... is there another way?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
If you already have a plan with free tethering what exactly do you expect from this? If you use data, it's going to show up on your account as being used whether you are tethering or not.
I don't expect anything I just thought the WiFi tethering would show up on on my data plan which is unlimited. My tether plan is only 2.5 gigs plan. It does the same as the stock hotspot tethering. Which in turn renders that app "WiFi tethering" useless. Its no big deal just asking the guide said he could use unlimited WiFi tether and T-Mobile didn't charge him for unlimited use... that wasnt the case for me....

Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
STEP 1
"STOCK ROM"
-download "1 click tether" from the market...this will force the internal tethering to turn on
OR
Run an AOSP rom, internal tethering is unlocked in aosp roms
STEP 2
once youve figured out step one, you should be able to tether, whether on aosp or tw ,it dont matter....only problem is, tmobile will soon block you because of your user agent on the computer
so you have two options...
1. download a browser on your computer that supports changing your user agent...chrome, firefox...ect...change the user agent to something other than windows...you can now use unlimited tethering on your browser.
NOW.....This will only give internet to the browser, not the computer globally...The only way to get global tethering on every program on the pc you'd have to set up a VPN...via the phone or via pc...VPN's are usually not free thou
My setup
-Running CM10 ROM
-Using the internal tethering option in the rom
-I use google chrome
-In google chrom i use this extension called "user agent switcher" https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher/lkmofgnohbedopheiphabfhfjgkhfcgf
-everytime i open google chrome i change the user agent to "safari on mac"
DONE
Yes try vpn hideman.

Tethering Questions...

okay so i just signed up for tmobile and got the 2.5 of data and comes with 500mbs of tethering. The unlimited comes with 2.5gbs of tethering, but is still not enough if im going to do it... ( i have a hotspot now using more data) i have used foxfi app in the past but have heard it wont work because it activated the real hotspot feature. If i root and flash a custom rom, if i use native tethering app and im on the UNLIMITED plan, will i be able to tether as much as i want? ( this isnt a ISP replacement, i go out of town often and need for work) And will i HAVE to mess with the browser settings to get it to work?)
As far as I understand using foxfi, if you hit the home button when it gives you a warning about your carrier you should be fine. I did that and it worked fine for me, but I only used it for about 5 minutes.
thats for att customers... if you read foxfi in PS it says to use USB mode only.

Native tethering.
I just completely deleted the t-mobile tethering APN and then changed the apn protocol in the t-mobile us lte (fast.t-mobile.com) APN to: IPv4/IPv6 from just IPv4 and my tethering works perfectly on this rom natively. In fact it screams, I'm getting like 32-38 Mb down and 19-25 up.
I am running Jovy's Darthstalker v3 with his Ultimate Compulsion kernal 5.0. Darthstalker v3 has unrestricted native tethering built in. I also use a "spoofer" extention on Chrome when I use my hot spot, and haven't been throttled or gotten the upgrade toast.

( this isnt a ISP replacement, i go out of town often and need for work) And will i HAVE to mess with the browser settings to get it to work?)

I have the unlimited plan, which includes the 2.5 gigs of tethering. I'm not rooted and I'm using the t-mobile tethering app. I ONLY tether to my Nexus 7 when in the car (mounted on my dash) and used over 6 gigs listening to google play music last month and so far this month 1.3 gigs. It shows up as normal data use for me and not as tethering use when I look online.

I'm using the same rom with the standard kernel. What spoofer extension are you using? Thanks in advance!! I'm trying to set my phone up like yours and I cannot find T-Mobile tether APN to delete it.
Edit: got it working!! which spoofer are you guys using for chrome?

So is the tethering APN hidden on the stock rom? All I'm seeing is T-Mobile US LTE APN right now.

I don't know about any hidden ones or not . But I had the two I mentioned and removed the one specified as being tethering, changed the profile on the other and it worked.

I'm seeing only one on the stock rom. Been meaning to switch to a custom rom but was hoping someone would find a way to flash without setting off the knox counter. Tired of waiting so I'll probably just flash this weekend.

I'm using MyRom Revolution with the stock kernel. Works like a charm! I don't even need the Chrome spoofer; am able to run uTorrent and surf the interwebs.
Spanks, man!
