[Q] New GS 3, software update available!? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Just got brand new GS3 today. 4.0.4 pre installed out of the box. Checked for updates through the settings menu and their is one available, it is 94mb. it doesn't tell me what exactly the update is though. I doubt it is JB, anyone have an idea??

It's an incremental update. Laying the groundwork for jellybean

Itll update you to the latest official build. UVALH2. Adds and changes some features like brightness slider in pull down. Its small becsuse it just patches the existing system. It is still ICS.
If you plan on rooting you can achieve root and the update by using Odin to flash MrRobinsons root66 version from the development section.

Do I take the update?

I have an update available on my new tablet I got yesterday day. Where do I find update info about it? Will I lose the ability to root if I take it?
Sent from my A100 using Tapatalk
I myself am new to the a100 community, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now, from my current knowledge, if the update is for version 3.2.1, you will lose ability to root. With that said, if u want root, you should probably stay with ur current version.
Also, I believe some users have said they've been able to root the newer version (3.2.1) by the same 3.2 root method. They did encounter some problems but got around them easily somehow. But since I dnt know much on this, again, I advise against updating, unless you can confirm with someone whose successfully rooted the update and can get some clear instructions on how to root the newer version.

i have 3.2.1 and have rooted with su and others.
I myself have also updated to 3.2.1 and rerooted with no issues at all. The update is vital if you use headphones and hate how the screen autorotates when installing apks.
You can still easily achieve root with the new update, but we're still somewhat limited on what we can do with it because there has yet to be a custom recovery, or custom roms.
If you so choose to root, and find an Acer recovery tool on the market, don't use it because it won't work for the A100 and will definitely mess your tablet up.
After rooting, check out the "themes and apps" section to see what deb's have come up with for rooted tabs.
And remember, READ EVERYTHING BEFORE TAKING THE FIRST STEP!!!!!

would have any problem to receive an upgrade if app eliminated several of the system?

Same here no update. What gives?
No update, reporting in.
no update here either, anyone know how or by what criteria or location acer distribute it?
maybe going from 3.2 to 3.21 is only minor ,,but it does raise question of when ICS is released, will some have wait months longer than others?

From my experience with the A500 you can wait a day to month. I'm not sure how they roll out updates but its dumb.

Maybe they found some problems with the update and decided not to open it up to all regions.
if theres no real difference with this update, i think i will skip it for now.

Once I enabled the "Update" feature, it was immediately avail to download.
Settings > About Tablet > System Update > ...and check for updates.
mmm I still dont get the update,,maybe they don't like Canadians?
Would help if I told them Im not Canadian,,but English just living in Canada??
But seriously it occurred to me that they maybe put a hold on the update,,,as ice cream sandwich is supposedly coming for A100 in January, but if some are still getting the 3.21 update obviously not

Rooted running custom ROM and kernel. OTA FAQ?

With the recent uncovering of the rdf page showing samsung/sprint are working on an official 4.0 release for the E4GT, I can't help but ask questions about the details of OTA's while rooted. I'm running a custom ROM and kernel, will this interfere with my ability to receive the ICS OTA when it does happen? Although I love my custom phone, and am very happy with my decision to root it, I am certainly not the only one who would like to run ICS. Anyone have any knowledge?

There won't be a ota for over a month or two....this is for a leak it will be a tar file flashable in Odin....you never want to take a ota when you are not stock that's asking for problems....if you are only rooted you can take ota and it will work and remove root also ...this leak will not be perfect look at international gs2 they have had like 4 or 5 leaks and still no ota yet... It will probably be the same here ... 2 or 3 leaks and then you can expect a ota after that..
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yeah I understand the OTA wont be prolly till April atleast, so I know in safe for awhile and will continue running blazer. but lets say when the end of March rolls around, should I revert back to a stock ROM and kernel and then ill be fine to take the OTA? or lets say it tries to give me the update before I revert my ROM I can refuse and get the update after I stock my phone? these sound like dumb questions but sadly they are ones I do not know the answer to..

The ota will fall if you try to apply it anyways .... But if your running blazer he will update to 4.0.3 or whatever they leak real soon so no need to take a ota anyways ... Then you would have to re root etc,...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
True, I fully intend on rooting with ICS. but I'm not all about running unstable roms with stuff broken. I need everyday walkaround stuff. (blazer rules). but basically your advice is to just chill with blazer, refuse any sprint otas and rock the 4.0 update since phantom will prolly bust one out before Samsung anyways?

Yeah so I just paid for SuperSU pro so it would keep root after the OTA. Ran the OTA and everything seemed fine until I got this...
So I went and checked the load I had and it's the updated version LJ4. Any thoughts?

T-mobile software update
Ok i have new software update should i postpone or update I'm rooted :what is in the new T-mobile update?
PSA: People, if you get an update, post what you are on right now so we know if your getting the same update that was released weeks ago that everyone else already has, or if its truly a new update please.
I am stock/rooted and on UVLH2. The update showed up yesterday morning. I also keep receiving a samsung account update. I hit update then it disappears, then shows up again some time later.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
For those wondering, this may not be the update you were expecting i.e. JB. Received update notification last night. Update upgraded software from UVLH2 to UVALJ4 which is still 4.0.4. Wife received notification last afternoon. Phones are only a week old on the network.
Voodoo root keeper will work. Just install it, click temp unroot, install the update, phone will reboot and then go back into voodoo and restore root. If you get some xxxx app has stopped, un install the specific apps, reboot and reinstall them. Its works for me.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
If the Update is under 100mb then this is not JB. Sorry. Also, if you are one LH2, then this will updated you to LJ4 (ICS like the poster above stated). Sorry again.
Silver lining? Since Sprint is getting theirs pushed over the next few days, that means that it is very clear all the carriers have it and are bloating as we speak. Many people/sites/blogs said that it will be this month, next month 1Q of 2013 for TMo.
I suggest going to tech sites like Engadget, Phandroid, Android Police,...as once the TMo update rolls out, they will be awash with stories about it. Case-in-point, Google SPH-L710 Official Jelly Bean Update and see how many links come up or how many threads.
Can confirm this is uvalj4. Dis use root keeper and worked perfect.

Doesn't look like it. Although the linked content also refers to your device being updated to Android 4.0.4 there may be errors.
I am excited as I want multi view but gotta have wifi calling. This should break loose the development options a bit.
I wonder if it will also unlock LTE...
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
F5ing sammobile.com in hopes of a leak coming through a day early......
So will we need to be running a stock rom?
Good Find! Thanks. So it's a minor update, not a full rom.
I just don't really see why I would even want to update to tmobile s update. I'm running that dll1 stock 4.1.2 rom I found in development section. Added multiwindow control .apk. and im happy!
I just think its too little too late and ill just stick with being able to use unlimited apps on multiwindow than having to go back to stock just for their little crappy update.
I cant imagine it being anything more than a couple bug fixes and added multiview feature.
However if it were to enable lte....than im all for it
But good news OP and thanks for putting this out there.

In theory the injected Stock Root should update to this update. But what is the real result we don't know yet. I have an backup with "ota rootkeeper" just in case if lose root. Also the developer for the injected Stock Root rom said that they are going to inject root into the new update and have it available as soon as they get the update and time to inject.
On the 19th we will see how things go.
This seems to come in record time compared to other T-mobile OTAs...

I don't get what everyone is *****ing about t mobile and waiting for updates. They pushed out 3 in the year and 3 mos I had a Sensation, I got it the week it launched and it didn't take long to receive the first ota. AT&T took forever with updates on the Captivate when it first launched. IMO, T Mobile has been pretty good with updates.

How about my Google Wallet, NFC = useless without it.
Tmobile, please allow us to "choose" our payment method, thank you.

[Q] Rooting Noob question

Greetings,
I rooted my GS3 using a stock ROM. Will I receive subsequent android update OTA, or will I have to search and download updates Manually?
No you will not receive updates. In order to receive updates, you will have to return to stock. Usually the devs put out a debloated version of any updates fairly quickly, so you could wait a day or two after an update is released to download and flash that.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Besides, if you wait for the OTA, you'd probably end up one of the 80% of people that get updated up to a few weeks after we've all been happily running it!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4
Edit: nevermind
