I have an update available on my new tablet I got yesterday day. Where do I find update info about it? Will I lose the ability to root if I take it?

I myself am new to the a100 community, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Now, from my current knowledge, if the update is for version 3.2.1, you will lose ability to root. With that said, if u want root, you should probably stay with ur current version.
Also, I believe some users have said they've been able to root the newer version (3.2.1) by the same 3.2 root method. They did encounter some problems but got around them easily somehow. But since I dnt know much on this, again, I advise against updating, unless you can confirm with someone whose successfully rooted the update and can get some clear instructions on how to root the newer version.

i have 3.2.1 and have rooted with su and others.
I myself have also updated to 3.2.1 and rerooted with no issues at all. The update is vital if you use headphones and hate how the screen autorotates when installing apks.
You can still easily achieve root with the new update, but we're still somewhat limited on what we can do with it because there has yet to be a custom recovery, or custom roms.
If you so choose to root, and find an Acer recovery tool on the market, don't use it because it won't work for the A100 and will definitely mess your tablet up.
After rooting, check out the "themes and apps" section to see what deb's have come up with for rooted tabs.
And remember, READ EVERYTHING BEFORE TAKING THE FIRST STEP!!!!!

From my experience with the A500 you can wait a day to month. I'm not sure how they roll out updates but its dumb.

Maybe they found some problems with the update and decided not to open it up to all regions.

Once I enabled the "Update" feature, it was immediately avail to download.
Settings > About Tablet > System Update > ...and check for updates.
mmm I still dont get the update,,maybe they don't like Canadians?
Would help if I told them Im not Canadian,,but English just living in Canada??
But seriously it occurred to me that they maybe put a hold on the update,,,as ice cream sandwich is supposedly coming for A100 in January,but if some are still getting the 3.21 update obviously not
I'm a little concerned. With everyone here rooted and on custom roms, noone will get the OTA update. That means we have to rely on outside sources for the availability of that update. That also means we will have to unroot/go back to stock to get the update. That just seams like a lot of wasted time. I'm going back to stock right know so I don't waste any time.
Then again, maybe it would be better to get it a couple hours after it is released. I mean with sprints network pushing all those updates at once.... waiting might even be faster.
From what i've seen most of the time the ota is leaked here before its released.

No that was not THE ota but an ota most of the leaks supported ota flash and we will know when the ICS kernel source is released and when you look at your phone and it says there is a firmware update lol

You will know. It will be posted on BGR, Brief Mobile, Android Police, etc. Sprint usually lets the world know a few days before the OTA is sent. Chances are it is that it will be the last RDF that is posted before they announce.
On the old Epic the source was usually dropped the night before the OTA started. There's always someone lurking on stock and you get a topic on the forum stating "Have OTA notification can someone help me pull it?"
So, in conclusion, there's no cause for alarm.
Plus not everyone here is rooted. There are those that prefer unrooted stock. I can't imagine why but they exist

Rooting doesn't prevent the OTA from installing. Modifying or deleting system files with your root power is what causes the OTA to fail.
If you install the pre-rooted EL29 ODIN OneClick, the OTA will install file. It will disable your root, as all official OTAs do.
Won't our phones get the OTA notification regardless what build/ROM is installed?
Depends if the app that handles the updates was disabled/removed, never present, or still active.

That was my thinking before too. When I first installed custom roms with ek02. I thought how I would have get the next OTA update. I just waited until the developer of the ROM i'm using updates it to the latest build. now I don't feel the need to accept any future OTA updats. Plus it will break root anyway, if you didn't change any system files. Might as well wait a few days and get the update with the ROM of your choice. you can always download the OTA update later on and install it manually if you want too. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think it is System Updates, but might be Smart Device Manager.
The process to check for updates is distinct from the one that bugs you to install after it is downloaded. They may or may not be in the same app.
Why would you want the official OTA update when you can wait no more than a day and one of our amazing devs will have it rooted and ready to use like any other leak so far.

Oh trust me that's exactly what I'm going to do but was adding to the conversation for people truly curious and interested in receiving the OTA.
I don't see myself ever running plain old stock again. I'm too spoiled now. lol
Just got brand new GS3 today. 4.0.4 pre installed out of the box. Checked for updates through the settings menu and their is one available, it is 94mb. it doesn't tell me what exactly the update is though. I doubt it is JB, anyone have an idea??

Itll update you to the latest official build. UVALH2. Adds and changes some features like brightness slider in pull down. Its small becsuse it just patches the existing system. It is still ICS.
If you plan on rooting you can achieve root and the update by using Odin to flash MrRobinsons root66 version from the development section.

Yeah so I just paid for SuperSU pro so it would keep root after the OTA. Ran the OTA and everything seemed fine until I got this...
So I went and checked the load I had and it's the updated version LJ4. Any thoughts?

I used voodoo root keeper and unrooted my phone, did the update and then re rooted. Worked great

Ok i have new software update should i postpone or update I'm rooted :what is in the new T-mobile update?
PSA: People, if you get an update, post what you are on right now so we know if your getting the same update that was released weeks ago that everyone else already has, or if its truly a new update please.
I am stock/rooted and on UVLH2. The update showed up yesterday morning. I also keep receiving a samsung account update. I hit update then it disappears, then shows up again some time later.

For those wondering, this may not be the update you were expecting i.e. JB. Received update notification last night. Update upgraded software from UVLH2 to UVALJ4 which is still 4.0.4. Wife received notification last afternoon. Phones are only a week old on the network.
Voodoo root keeper will work. Just install it, click temp unroot, install the update, phone will reboot and then go back into voodoo and restore root. If you get some xxxx app has stopped, un install the specific apps, reboot and reinstall them. Its works for me.

If the Update is under 100mb then this is not JB. Sorry. Also, if you are one LH2, then this will updated you to LJ4 (ICS like the poster above stated). Sorry again.
Silver lining? Since Sprint is getting theirs pushed over the next few days, that means that it is very clear all the carriers have it and are bloating as we speak. Many people/sites/blogs said that it will be this month, next month 1Q of 2013 for TMo.
I suggest going to tech sites like Engadget, Phandroid, Android Police,...as once the TMo update rolls out, they will be awash with stories about it. Case-in-point, Google SPH-L710 Official Jelly Bean Update and see how many links come up or how many threads.
Can confirm this is uvalj4. Dis use root keeper and worked perfect.

As far as I remember reading, we should just about be ready to start receiving the 4.3 OTA on our phones. I'm starting this thread as a place to come let others know once they've received the OTA. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled throughout the night and into tomorrow. Come keep me company with some mindless banter!

If your rooted and it says modified u wont recieve the update to 4.3.
There is the system dump that was make into a rom but its not an official release u have to be on stock UVUAMDL to recieve the official 4.3 update from tmobile when its released.

So far, all the dates for the other carriers were on point. I doubt EVERYONE will get it today, but all we need is one person to get it who has enough know-how to get a flashable zip posted here. I'll put my money on that happening within 24 hours from now. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong.

I believe it will be OTA be cause what would be the point in having system update under settings if there is no use for it .
If i get the update and stay rooted after 4.3 update i will pull .cfg file if it is ota

as for me, i was hoping an automated system would start pushing the update at midnight. But that was wishing thinking i guess. Though it wont matter for me much longer with my nexus 5 ordered.

No, I just thought people were impatient. The thread title is not accurate as the update is not really rolling out yet.
I'm hoping that t mobile was last for the update because it was also working on the metro pcs gs4. At least all galaxy s4's have followed the leaked schedule, If not I'll just have to go custom on my metro gs4.
I'll stick with my version for now. Even though I've flashed several 4.3 ROMS... I'm not updating to TMOs OTA for this whole knox fiasco. Might be worth it if there are significant kernel tweaks and overall performance gain. I've appreciated the direction TW has been headed, at least it has been getting significantly better.
