I was being charged the group texts as photo messages (on Orange network), just now orange support people confirmed me that there's a bug in Nokia Lumia phones that it always send group texts as photo messages. is it true? any body else facing the issue? any fix?
cheers...
I don't think that's exclusive to the Lumia, or a bug. Pretty sure that's just how Windows Phone works. You may want to look at using GroupMe which does go over SMS or Push.
hmm, you mean sending sms to more than one person on windows phone goes out a photo message or MMS message? I think this was not the case in HTC Mozart i used to have last year and even in previous versions of windows phone.
is there any setting I need to change? unfortunately the orange support team gave a clear verdict that on Nokia Lumia any sms going out to more than one receipient will go as MMS / photo messages.
If you look at Messaging settings it says "Helps keep replies in one thread by using MMS" under the Group Text option. So, group text is going to use MMS on any WP7 device, not just a Lumia.

Try turning off Group Text option in Messaging Settings and see if that fixes it.
Thanks and I've just turn the group text off and tested with my colleagues, it's ok now. but will check the group messages abroad because that's where I was charged as photo text messages.
cheers....

Well basically I am getting charged for some of my text messages and I do not know why.
If I send a long text message will it send as a MMS???
THanks ... this is with T-Mobile
You need to speak to tmobile.
The manual says that an SMS will automatically be converted to an MMS if "very long", but not how long. Can you visually tell when this happens?

Just like when you add a word tot he dictionary it will appear eith "Converting to MMS ..." once it is too long.
if memory serves, it's somewhere between 3 and 5 SMS messages in length where it changes to an MMS.
I always though 5 was the max for text messages on any phone. Then it breaks it down into seperate messages.

That is twice now! But at least I know before i rack up a huge bill!
I will experiment and find out!

Happened to me last week, NOT COOL!
is there a way around this ?
like a config option or something like that ?
is this specific to the desire or android ?
This is standard behaviour for all Android devices, and it applies to the stock messaging app. The reason for this, is that if you are going to send more than three SMSes, it will in most cases be cheaper to send an MMS. This does not of course apply when you have unlimited texts or other discounts.
Until this gets fixed, download a replacement from the market. Try chompSMS or Handcent SMS. The automatic conversion is optional in these.
ah ok
hope this gets fixed fast
using an alternative sms program such as handcent sms or chomp sms gives you the option to break up long text messages into seperate texts instead of converting to mms
Today I sent a picture to two co-workers, Joe and Kevin, as a single MMS to both recipients. When Joe got the message, GoSMS shows the popup window and if he clicks "View" on the popup window it opens the thread between him and I. To see the picture, he has to go back to his conversation list where he has a thread addressed to both him and Kevin.
So we did some testing.
I resent it two more times and got the same results. If he sent a picture to me and someone else, I would just get it as a message between me and him -- I can't see the other recipients (which is good, I don't care who else got it).
I'm on T-Mobile, they're both on Verizon. Is this something with the wireless carriers or is there some kind of MMS APN configuration trick I could do? I just want to be able to send an MMS to multiple recipients as split messages (me to person 1, me to person 2, etc).
I bet tl;dr :silly:
This feels like such a noob question but I'm at a loss. I know group messaging has been baked into the latest release but it doesn't seem to be working right.
I have the group messaging option turned on in my settings and I can send a group text just fine. But when I receive a group message it looks like a normal text message. I can't see who the other recipients are and so I can't respond to anyone but the person who sent that text.
I've noticed the same thing on several different S3 phones running 4.3 so I feel like either I am doing something wrong or "group messaging" doesn't work the way I expect it to. Are we only able to send group texts but not receive them? What gives?
Thanks.
Anyone??

I have the Verizon version of the S3, so I'm not sure if they behave the same. I went into my messing app, hit the menu to get settings and have the option for "Group Conversations" "Send messages as group conversations by default" checked...mine works just fine. When I get a group text, I have an option to switch it from MMS to SMS and have it be an individual text.
FIrstly, Hello. I had an account here years ago but forgot the email/password I used(oh well).
I actually have various issues with this phone, but the most important one(at least being worked related) is this. I am able to send and receive individual text messages just fine with both the stock "messages" application as well as the "message +"(Verizon) application. I can also send out group messages just fine.... but I am not able to receive group messages from anyone I work with. All my co-workers have iPhones. I'm the only one with an Android phone.
I have tried clearing cache/data, force stopping, resetting network settings, rebooting, adjusting every setting possible in both messages & message+ applications(including disabling/re-enabling/updating). I went through the Verizon z2 force text message troubleshooting on their website and was even on the phone with Verizon for awhile. Finally, I put my SIM card back into my old Galaxy S6 phone and tested with that... still did not work.
I then tried using other 3rd party apps: Signal & Textra (neither one worked either)
I have heard that a "group text message" being sent from an iPhone only circulates on Apple servers(meaning that only people with an iPhone can get them).... however, one of my co-workers insists that he was able to get them on his old phone(Android... nexus something).
Basically, I know the problem is not this phone(right?...) That being the case, does anyone know of any way I can receive a group message originating from an iPhone without having to switch to an iPhone?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you
Update: I had a friend using an older iphone 5(iOS 10) attempt to send out a group text message. I was able to receive it. Upon doing further research, seems there's a bug in iOS 11 in which Android users are not getting group text messages.
So... it is Apple's fault this time. Additionally, I found that by using the app 'TextPlus' on my Z2 Force, I am able to receive these iOS11 group text messages. Looks like I'll have to stick with that until Apple fixes the issue.
I recently replaced my HTC One M8 (updated to 10586.494) after it fizzled out. The replacement was an HTC One M8 (Updated to 15254.489). Everything works as it should except for group texts. Instead of receiving incoming group texts in it's respective group text thread, I receive individual replies in that person's own thread, not as a text, but as a button that says DOWNLOAD. When I click DOWNLOAD, it briefly blinks off, but returns never to show the message. I'm near the end of my Windows 10 Mobile rope, but am trying my best to not to succumb to Android.
If anyone has had a similar problem like this resolved, I would surely appreciate it.
