WiFi cannot be turned on - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have been using ParanoidAndroid ICS (v1.5) for a few months.
Yesterday, I noticed that the phone has been trying to turn on WiFi but not successful, it seemed to try and try turning on. I confirmed with using other devices that I have proper WiFi at home.
Such action is causing significant battery drain to my phone.
I wiped the phone, re-installed the same PA ROM, the problem started to appear during the phone setup asking me to put in my google account (from that point onward, it started to turn on Wifi) and the phone was stuck in that process. Of course I can hit "back" and skipped setting up my google account at that time. Later I did setup the account manually (it didn't ask to turn on Wifi).
Everything is setup but the "turning on WiFi" is still active.
I tried the WiFi fixer from google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brilliapps.wifiandmorefixer&hl=en) but it concluded that it cannot be fixed.
I have been using WiFi mostly at home and it has been working fine until yesterday. I didn't do any modification to the phone before that.
Thanks.

Please help: juicedefender messed up my desire

Hi,
can anyone please help me? I recently downloaded and used JuiceDefender on my Desire. I configured a setting that allows the phone to learn what are the Wifi networks that I like to connect to, based on location. I soon noticed that the phone randomely reboots so I uninstalled this application. Well, I completely lost control of my Wifi connection. Even if I turn it off in Android settings, the Wifi just starts by itself and starts scanning for networks, which completely drains my battery. I installed the application again and reversed the location wifi setting but it did not help.
I also did a backup then wiped up my phone, but the Wifi still starts by itself. Is there any solution to this?
Thank you!
hi,
did a backup then wiped up my phone,

and the did you restore your backup?? if so i woulfd advice to clear data juice defendre and maybe mail to dev'app
thank you for your answer.
First I uninstalled juicedefender. after seeing that wifi still gets connected, i backed up, i wiped all data on the phone and restored the back up, but without juicedefender (it was not included in the backup). As for the email to the developers, I did that, but I got a response like that: "I don;t think this is possible. Please install our beta application and enjoy." How helpful of them!
Some suggestions
I would be surprised if any app could reboot the phone, even if it crashed.
Do you use tasker or locale? They can start up the wifi.
You could try org.wahtod.wififixer
You could also use something like com.mapeapps.networkcounter to check what is using the wifi. You'll have to reboot after installing it to reset the counters, but then, if it locks on to a wifi straight away, you could see what's using the connection, and maybe work out what's starting it up?
Thank you, I will try what you said. Sometimes the Wifi is just starting, but sometimes it also starts when I open any application that requires an internet connection, even if my data connection is already on. I will come back to report on what you suggested. Thanks again!
I forgot to say that I am not using a tasker. I do have enabled the location services based on network, but I have always had that before, and if the wifi was disconnected in the android settings, then it stayed off. Now it just won;t stay off. The thing is that I don;'t even need wifi, I have a good data plan. But the damn wifi just starts by itself, scanning for networks all the time, draining my battery and interrupting my regular data connection. I am so frustrated! I never had problems with my Desire for one year, and now, after installing this JuideDefender, problems are coming in.
Ok there are a couple of things:
a) If your Wifi is still broken after you uninstalled JD it is most likely not JD who was / is the culprit. You even wiped, so how should JD do this?
b) JD does not turn Wifi back on when you manually turn it off (I am not 100% sure what happens during the training phase, while JD learns you Wifi-Locations, because in these 1-3 days JD might turn Wifi on in "random" locations to enhance the algorithm)
What does the log in JD say (anything about turning Wifi on?)?
Hello,
the JD log says: WIFI turned on by user.
Which of course I have not done. I think my phone is haunted. Leaving JD aside (even if this problem started only after I started to use JD), the problem still exists: my phone turns its WIFI connection by itself, even if I don't want that!

[Q] Very unusual WiFi problem. I can not "search" or "sign in" to Google Services
As titles states; This is not rom related, though it first happened while flashing a nightly build of CM. On the screen to sign in to my Google account, it was hanging. I let it go for about 5 minutes then disabled WiFi and retried with success. I thought it was a isolated issue so I didn't think much of it. I then turned WiFi back on and continued to setup the rom. When I got to the stage of downloading an app from Play Store I continued to getting "Connection timed out" - This went on for several attempts until I disabled WiFi.
The last problem I have is when I search in Google it fails to load any results unless I disable WiFi. What is even stranger is I can use WiFi ONLY when I type in a complete URL in the address bar "www.xda.com" for example. It is almost as if WiFi is failing to communicate with Google Services? - I have flashed a few other modem packages and completely formatted internal SD and sideloaded another roms to no success. I am about to go back to stock firm to see if it resolves it but thought I would ask here just in case someone has had a similar issue

Problem was resolved only after going back to complete stock 1.2.1

Wi-Fi connection issues

I attempted to download an app from Google Play yesterday and noticed the download was running very slow so i stopped it and re-tried it a few times. It then stalled and would not download at all so I closed Google Play store and went back into it, now I get 'No Connection' in the center of the screen and Google Play will not work. I have since tried my stock Android browser and I get 'Web page not available' and also Youtube and Amazon app store have similar issues. However, what doesn't make sense is that some Internet based apps work fine and Dolphin browser works fine too. If I switch off Wi-Fi and connect to 3G everything works fine so the issue lies with the Wi-Fi connection. My wife who has the same phone can connect and use the Wi-Fi fine without any issues and any other Internet device I have is still working as it should be. It appears it is only my phone with the issue.
I have tried checking date/time which is correct.
I have reset cache and cleared data for both the browser, Youtube and Google Play
I have rebooted my phone and my broadband router
I have tried changing the security settings to from WPA2-PSK (AES) to WPA/WPA2-PSK (Mixed Mode)
All to no avail.
I have rooted Android 4.3 but it has been working fine for over a year before now. I would want to avoid doing a factory reset at all costs as I have some important apps that can't be backed up with the likes of Helium and some other forums have shown that a factory reset has not resolved the issue.
Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.
After a day of trying to resolve this issue I have finally managed to fix it. This may be useful for anyone else having the same issue:
I went into my Wi-Fi settings and looked for my router in the list and did a long tap on the name and chose 'Forget Network' so it removes my router. I then did a re-scan so it picked it back up. When tapping it, this time I was able to re-enter my Wi-Fi password and connect. After doing this everything started working again.
I've no idea why all of a sudden the network failed to work correctly but at least it is now sorted. I just don't understand why some Internet access worked and others did not. I guess I shall never know!

[Q] Wifi disconnect problem, might have worked out what's causing it...

(Firstly I know I just posted and said Surdu Petru's Kit Kat Carbon Rom is awesome and it is. So is his Omni Rom which I just changed from. The wifi problem isn't caused by the roms. it's been happening with all sorts of Roms for me (and loads of other people on other phones)
I noticed before when I installed his Omni Rom ( and at least 5x before with other roms) that the WiFi was working perfectly until some point between a Google restore & titanium backup - restore. Then I'd start getting the WiFi disconnecting every 30 seconds, even when standing next to the router on my home network.
I Googled and tried everything I could find but nothing would work. So when I installed Carbon Rom a few days ago I flashed the rom and let it install to the Google log in, connected to WiFi and signed into my Google account BUT I didn't allow Google to restore data etc, just let it log in & didn't do a full titanium restore. I then slowly (Titanium Backup) restored all my apps individually that I wanted but MOST of them I just restored the app and not the data. Everything has been perfect for two days, full strong five bar WiFi signal throughout my house, never dropping the WiFi until about 1hr ago... when I opened up Google maps , accepted it's access & (we will learn everything about you) permissions, clicked on the maps GPS logo, it asked me to go to location settings, went there, approved high accuracy and BOOM, WiFi disconnected and my WiFi now says not in range. So... is it going to some server and changing my location in the phone so now it doesn't think I'm where I am and therefore doesn't want to connect to the router 1 meter from me with five bars on the phone but "not within range"? Is this what could be causing problems for loads of people on different phones?
Tried everything to get it to reconnect (Wifi On/Off, Airplane mode on/off, Wifi advanced settings re weak connection etc, Rebooted phone and nothing worked.
Did another Google search and found this forum
http://www.reddit.com/r/nexus4/comments/1rdolw/44_has_murdered_my_battery_rendering_my_nexus_4_a/
where about halfway down it mentions to disable hangouts and log out of Google+ then reboot. I did this and now my WiFi is back to full signal and not dropping connection.
So is this the solution to this? I haven't yet re-signed into Google+ or enabled hangouts or re-opened Google Maps and gone through the whole process above as I'm worried it will screw up my WiFi again.
Just thought I'd put this out there hoping that a developer, such as the Excellent Surdu Petru, might "click" and come up with a fix.

[Q] NOTE II keeps restarting whenever connected to the internet

Hey everyone,
I've been looking all over the internet for a solution to my problem, and nothing have worked yet. I've tried clearing the cache (and often data as well) for phone, internet and chrome. My setting does not keep activities. I have not tried factory reset, because I cannot backup all my phone's data as of now.
The problem with my phone is that I cannot connect to the internet at all. Because I'm out of the country right now, and will be for a while, I cannot use mobile data (because of my phone plan). I've been relying a lot on internet for communication with others, and though I can do it fine with my laptop, it's not exactly easy for me to carry it around everywhere.
What happened was this afternoon, I suddenly received the pop up "Unfortunately, Internet has stopped" when I tried to log in to my uni's wifi network. I used chrome after that and things were fine.
But then, the message kept on popping up and suddenly the phone kept on restarting itself. This happens constantly! After the phone is fully loaded, it restarts again!! When I switched off the wifi, the phone worked well. But I noticed that facebook and whatsapp were uninstalled (not by me). Maybe the problem lies with the wifi connection thing, cause whenever I switched it on, the phone restarts on its own. But if the wifi is on without being connected to any networks, the phone is fine.
After a while, I also started to get the pop up "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped".
Since I'm living in campus right now, the only wifi network available for me to connect to is the university's. So I don't know if this is just a problem with the univ. or just wifi networks in general.
I have this phone for about two years already. It is not rooted. I've dropped it several times but it still works fine. I have not installed any new applications recently. All I did today was scroll through tumblr. Uninstalled that app too just in case, but problem remained.
If any of you know what's up or what to do, that'd be a great help!
Thank you
