Hi,
can anyone please help me? I recently downloaded and used JuiceDefender on my Desire. I configured a setting that allows the phone to learn what are the Wifi networks that I like to connect to, based on location. I soon noticed that the phone randomely reboots so I uninstalled this application. Well, I completely lost control of my Wifi connection. Even if I turn it off in Android settings, the Wifi just starts by itself and starts scanning for networks, which completely drains my battery. I installed the application again and reversed the location wifi setting but it did not help.
I also did a backup then wiped up my phone, but the Wifi still starts by itself. Is there any solution to this?
Thank you!

and the did you restore your backup?? if so i woulfd advice to clear data juice defendre and maybe mail to dev'app
thank you for your answer.
First I uninstalled juicedefender. after seeing that wifi still gets connected, i backed up, i wiped all data on the phone and restored the back up, but without juicedefender (it was not included in the backup). As for the email to the developers, I did that, but I got a response like that: "I don;t think this is possible. Please install our beta application and enjoy." How helpful of them!
Some suggestions
I would be surprised if any app could reboot the phone, even if it crashed.
Do you use tasker or locale? They can start up the wifi.
You could try org.wahtod.wififixer
You could also use something like com.mapeapps.networkcounter to check what is using the wifi. You'll have to reboot after installing it to reset the counters, but then, if it locks on to a wifi straight away, you could see what's using the connection, and maybe work out what's starting it up?
Thank you, I will try what you said. Sometimes the Wifi is just starting, but sometimes it also starts when I open any application that requires an internet connection, even if my data connection is already on. I will come back to report on what you suggested. Thanks again!
I forgot to say that I am not using a tasker. I do have enabled the location services based on network, but I have always had that before, and if the wifi was disconnected in the android settings, then it stayed off. Now it just won;t stay off. The thing is that I don;'t even need wifi, I have a good data plan. But the damn wifi just starts by itself, scanning for networks all the time, draining my battery and interrupting my regular data connection. I am so frustrated! I never had problems with my Desire for one year, and now, after installing this JuideDefender, problems are coming in.
Ok there are a couple of things:
a) If your Wifi is still broken after you uninstalled JD it is most likely not JD who was / is the culprit. You even wiped, so how should JD do this?
b) JD does not turn Wifi back on when you manually turn it off (I am not 100% sure what happens during the training phase, while JD learns you Wifi-Locations, because in these 1-3 days JD might turn Wifi on in "random" locations to enhance the algorithm)
What does the log in JD say (anything about turning Wifi on?)?
Hello,
the JD log says: WIFI turned on by user.
Which of course I have not done. I think my phone is haunted. Leaving JD aside (even if this problem started only after I started to use JD), the problem still exists: my phone turns its WIFI connection by itself, even if I don't want that!

My WiFi eventually stops working. It's been working fine for two months but for these last two weeks, it would not connect to any wifi network, regardless if it were home, someone else's home, or even the wifi at my school.
If it helps any, I'm running juggernaut 4.1 with bullet kernel.
I've looked around to the related threads but there was never a solid fix. Anyone have any insight on my problem?
bump? Any help?
Well if a clean instal doesnt fix it your phone probably needs replacing

It works like 75% of the time. It works when I reset it sometimes. It's not a "never works" type of thing. Do I still really need to replace my phone?
I have a smiliar problem, Once I disconnect from Wi-Fi and then try to connect to any network, it would say it's connected with full signal strength yet there would be no connection...
Not exactly sure if that's the problem you're having, but so far the fix I've found for my problem is to boot into recovery, wipe battery stats and fix permissions and then it's good to go. Only problem is it sucks having to reboot your phone everytime you have to connect to a new Wi-Fi network...
I had the same problem as you. The wifi icon had all the signal but still did work just on my phone... I tested it on my PC and it was all fine. I decided to go back to stock then reroot again. It fix it a little bit bit still happens sometimes
I suggested unroot it via Odin then test the issue for a few days on stock. Just to see what the problem is. Then root if wish

Weird... I seem to have this problem too!
Sometimes my WiFi says connected Excellent connection, but it does not work. I know my internet works because my PC works fine.
I just disconnect WiFi and use 4G, yeah it's a lot slower, but it is manageable.
WiFi seems to randomly want to work.

Yeah it sucks... It was working normally before but not its mess up
I still haven't found a solution to this problem. My only solution has been to disable wifi, turn on data, turn off data, turn wifi back on, and it will work.
With this information, does anyone know what's wrong? I have restored back to my freshly rooted nandroid and wiped and reflashed to three different roms, all with the same wifi issue.
Is there anyone with a solution?
Try this:
turn off wifi, then...
in adb shell:
su
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.lease
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.pid
or:
if you dont want to use shell, get Root Explorer (or equivalent) and navigate to /data/misc/dhcp/ and delete those files.
then:
restart wifi. You may need to reboot.

I can't find those files. They don't seem to exist in my phone.
So far the only way I have been forced to turn on airplane mode and switch it off to use my wifi. I have to do this every half an hour or so. Does anyone have a more permanent solution?
same issue here. on wifi or on data, it will just drop, even though i have full wifi bars. I get between 75-100% packet loss. Sometimes jumping to airplane mode and back fixes it. Sometimes jumping to data and back to wifi, rebooting fixes it.....it seems.....for a while. Tried multiple roms/kernels. Same issue. during all this, my phone will try to sync data (2 gmail accounts) and just chug and chug, heat up my phone, and drain my battery. Any ideas?
I deleted those files, rebooted, lets see what happens.
T-mobile my account..... Do u have it installed? If so freeze it or uninstall it and problem will go away. I had same problem made a thread and posted my findings and turned out lots of people had similar issue of wifi sometimes working or both data and wifi signal showing when only wifi supposed to be on, wifi losing connection after a little bit. etc. In the end tmobile my account was the culprit
nope. No tmo my account, no green (or whatever) battery saver.
Deleted those files, and still had issues yesterday and today.
I had this problem. turns out my sgsii wasn't playing nice with my wrt 400n, gradually lost connection more frequently. flipped back to the trusty linksys g router, never had a problem since. I think it has something to do with n.
Turns out that it happens with all routers - for me anyway. It just loses internet every 20 minutes or so even while I'm still connected to the router.
Greetings! so, I installed Jelly Bean, super slick. I love it. HOWEVER: It seems to have some issues with Wi-Fi and it is not the usual issue of not connecting. I have tried re-installing, and (Just to double check that I had completely wiped the phone before installing). Nothing.
The issue is that, when I connect, it seems to wipe out the internet for my entire house after a second or two. It does not turn the internet OFF, it just makes it impossible for me to load any web pages. Any help?
I have set my wi-fi on the phone to a Static IP, and then set the IP to 182.168.2.1 (I tried a couple of others but none seemed to work

Sounds as if your phone is sending a packet storm.
Can you enable logging on your route (mileage may vary), and see what may be causing it? Maybe it's trying to go to a particular source?
Okay, I figured it out. I had to open up my router settings on my computer., and navigate to where I can see the connected devices. I look for my phone and beside it is an IP. I just set the Static IP to that and BAM. works like a charm!
But you have this issue also when ur screen was on???
For me wifi works. But when the screen is off my wifi turns off. Once I turn the screen on bam it's back. Although I have wifi turned on always in advanced settings.

I have the same thing going on.. Has anyone figured out a fix yet?
Hello,
I have been using ParanoidAndroid ICS (v1.5) for a few months.
Yesterday, I noticed that the phone has been trying to turn on WiFi but not successful, it seemed to try and try turning on. I confirmed with using other devices that I have proper WiFi at home.
Such action is causing significant battery drain to my phone.
I wiped the phone, re-installed the same PA ROM, the problem started to appear during the phone setup asking me to put in my google account (from that point onward, it started to turn on Wifi) and the phone was stuck in that process. Of course I can hit "back" and skipped setting up my google account at that time. Later I did setup the account manually (it didn't ask to turn on Wifi).
Everything is setup but the "turning on WiFi" is still active.
I tried the WiFi fixer from google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brilliapps.wifiandmorefixer&hl=en) but it concluded that it cannot be fixed.
I have been using WiFi mostly at home and it has been working fine until yesterday. I didn't do any modification to the phone before that.
Thanks.
Every since Verizon pushed the Lollipop update to my N4, my "Mobile Data" turns back on all by itself after it has been disabled. It even turns back on when I am connected to wifi.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so can you please explain how I may fix this.
Thanks in advance.
Not exactly that but I have noticed that now I'm always on 3g when I'm usually on 4G all day long same area this is crazy
Mine is also randomly turning on Mobile Data too after the Lollipop update. I have a small data allotment with VZW, this could send me into overages.
I seen on one thread, searching through your downloaded apps to find out which ones have "change network connectivity" in the permissions. I happen to have 6 of them. Some you can disable, but it removes the updates, other you cant disable without removing it.
Another recommendation was hitting settings from the pull down menu, wifi, advanced, then uncheck the "smart network switch". Mine wasn't checked to begin with, so I'm out of ideas til I start removing apps one by one...
The data has been turning on by itself during sleep time on my Note 4. It caused the phone to use 500mb of data in one nite. My data is always off, wifi is only on when using the phone otherwise it's off too. I called Verizon and they have no clue. This is my 2nd new Note 4 for myself & my wife, nothing but problems. Think we are going to switch to anything other than a Samsung phone.
Well, I've systematically removed all 6 apps one at a time. The Youtube and Facebook apps, I was only able to disable them instead of removing them completely. In the end, the phone still turns on Mobile Data by itself. This must be something internal with Lollipop. I have a small data allowance and I'm afraid its going to go over simply because it wont stay OFF even with WiFi available!!
I would call customer service and have them ship you out a replacement. This is our 3rd phone and hopefully it will work as it should. Good luck
Outcast,
I've had my Note4 since it was released in November. It didn't have this problem with 4.4 Kitkat. It's something new with Lollipop and I doubt a new phone would solve this problem, could be wrong.
How involved is it to go back to Kitkat?
I'm not chancing voiding my warranty. They replaced my phones by them and not by request. Our phones get hot and get a warning then shuts down, apps close constantly and the phones consistently reboot on their own. Then the data turning on by itself. The other problems I don't think are software based but hardware failures. The data can very well be software related.

I have the same problem and i used up so much of my data when i am at home where the wifi connects automatically on everything else. On kit kat this never happened and i am attempting a downgrade so you might want to try that.
I was having the same problem with mine. I also live on the edge of 4g area, so it was constantly swapping between 3g and 4g. In addition to using some data it was killing my battery swapping between 3g and 4g. Using almost 10% per hour when not being used. I disabled most of the verizon stuff, support and protection, Verizon navigator, caller name id, message+, and verizon location. I turned off facebook location reporting in the app settings, and disabled google location. I did all these a couple at a time and would reboot to see if it fixed the problem and after all those were done i rebooted and wiped the cache and the prblem was gone. I turned google location back on so far and its still working the way it is supposed to. It shows a greyed out 3g symbol and my battery life is much better. My phone sat off the charger all night and only dropped 4% and in 5 hours of moderate use its down to 77% left. Wish i knew exactly which app was causing the problem to help you out better but hopefully you can try those apps and settings and get the same results.
Well it worked for about 3 days, but this morning data and wifi were both running again.
Data usage Samsung Galaxy Note 4
Been having the same problem even when I disconnect data ten or fifteen minutes later data is back on. And I've noticed even if I am connected to Wi-Fi data trumps it and I end up using a ton of DATA when I've been connected to Wi-Fi all day, getting seriously upset cause I never used this much data before.
I have same problem with my Note3 running Lollipop. Have tried every suggestion I can find to turn off data, but it is still runs, unless I am on wifi. Data is set to off, 4g symbol in notification bar is greyed out, but data is still on. I have found forums all over the Web with other people with this problem, but no solution yet. My phone is unlocked but not rooted.
Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate any help anyone could give me in solving this problem...
I upgraded to MM a few weeks ago and at first had some odd WiFi issues where the phone would not connect, or stay connected very long. After about half a day of tearing my hair out, clearing my cache, and reinstalling apps it all seemed to "come good", and had been ok for a few weeks.
A few days ago, however, everything went bad again. Here is what is happening:
On my 2.4Ghz wifi network, when the phone is woken up using the power button or double tap, WiFi does not work. The phone reports that it is connected to WiFi, and (according to the Ping Tools app) has an IP address, but there is no connectivity to the outside world (or even to my router or NAS box). After about a minute or so, the connection magically "comes good" again, and the WiFi works normally. This is very frustrating as while the phone is asleep it has no IP connectivity so I don't get any notifications for email/messages etc. I have the default "yes" setting for the "Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off" option BTW.
I have discovered that if I switch to the 5Ghz WiFi network on my router then I do not get this behaviour - the WiFi stays connected while the phone is asleep and there's not the same period of no connectivity when it wakes up. Unfortunately the 5Ghz network doesn't reach to the front of my house so this isn't a viable solution.
I have also found that the odd behaviour does not occur if I disable Bluetooth on the phone. Since I use Bluetooth audio in my car, it's a bit of a pain to disable/re-enable it but it's the workaround that I'm currently using.
The strange behaviour does not occur if I reboot the phone into Safe Mode... the WiFi stays connected while the phone is asleep, and 2.4Ghz WiFi works straight away when the phone is woken up. This seems to indicate that an app might be the culprit.
To try and diagnose this I have
- cleared the cache and rebooted a number of times, to no avail
- done a factory reset and reinstalled my apps from Google Play, but end up in the same (broken) state
- changed the default channel for 2.4Ghz WiFi on my router several times
So I'm at my wits end now. I guess I could do another factory reset and reinstall my apps manually, one by one, and see which one (if any) breaks things. But I'd like to to try and avoid this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to determine what could be causing the problem?
Phone is an H815 running Android 6.0, V20a-EUR-XX. Totally stock, locked bootloader.
Sorry for the lengthy post.
I have approximately the same thing. Switching Bluetooth doesn't help in my case. I had to wipe cache from within the phone to make it get better again.
One other thing was to throw away my aluminium bumper. Do you maybe have one ?

Oh, I got excited at your case suggestion as I got a new case a couple of weeks ago which does have an aluminium bumper. But I just took the case off and alas the problem remains.
Unfortunately clearing the cache doesn't work for me. I also found a setting under Backup and Reset to reset network options but this didn't help either.
Next step might be to reinstall the OS or try the repair option in LG Bridge. Unless anyone else has a better idea?

Tihs issu not MM specific exist on LP
Try another chanel (In router)and use only N 2.4 Ghz
But is see you try..
Go and use warranty.!!!
I think I've fixed it. I just started uninstalling apps and checking to see if the behaviour persisted after uninstalling each one. After uninstalling TuneIn Radio the WiFi started working with Bluetooth enabled again. I reinstalled all the apps that I uninstalled (including TuneIn) and everything seems to be working again. I doubt it had anything to do with TuneIn - just a weird interaction of who knows what. It's not terribly satisfying and I suspect it will happen again, but hopefully this thread will help someone who might have the same problem.
