Is there any way to launch google nows voice without pressing any buttons first or starting the google now app manually? I know it will be a battery drain, but I would like the option or at least be able to put the phone into a mode so that is always available no matter what app I am in. Im not really a fan of S voice and would prefer to use one app for everything. And yes, I did search first. The hotword detection only seems to work when you are on the home screen of the app, which is pretty worthless. Am I missing something?
Maybe?
What about using a NFC tag to launch the app and uncheck hotword detection
I thought thats what the WakeUp feature was...? Then again I have no idea. Nevermind.

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. Load up S-Voice and then presz Menu button. Go into settings and use the Wakeup feature.
Is this what your looking for?
EDIT: I'M STUPID. DISREGARD. I jumped the reply before finishing OP messge.

Can someone tell me why the google search bar on the top of the homescreen sometimes says google on the left and sometimes its just a magnifying glass?
Also is there a way to remove the bar from the homescreen all together?
Thanks for replies guys
As for the Google/magnifying glass question I can't say. You can remove the search bar by using a different launcher such as novalauncher.
I'm not certain but I think you might be able to remove it with the stock launcher by removing the google quick search apk but that might not be true.

simply disabling google search in the apps menu gets rid of the bar, but it's useless as it doesn't give you the space back for icons. It just looks funny now because you'll have blank space you can't use.
Just use a 3rd party launcher.

Theres no specific time. Ive only had the phone a couple of days. When i first got it it said google but now its just a magnifying glass.
Ive noticed on a video on youtube aswel that it changes in the review. If you look at the video at 0:16 thats how my search bar looks right now...
Hm, mine's never looked like that lol.
Annoying... I like it better when it says google.
I hate not knowing why things do things. This is going to drive me crazy until i find out.
I cant be the only one obviously with it being in this video aswel...
Is there anyone out there who can solve the mystery lol
what os version are you running, maybe it is fixed on 4.0.3 and you are on something earlier? I have never experienced this either, pretty sure it has always said google.
I've had this happen a few times before. To fix it I would force stop the launcher. It will reload and "google" will be on the search bar again. It must be a bug.
Yeah maybe.
I rebooted the phone and it went back to google again.
Im on 4.0.2 stock.
I noticed if you touch the search bar and keep your finger on it then the google pops up underneath the magnifying glass.
Maybe its just a bug =/
This has been happening to me the past couple days on both my transformer prime and nexus

Found a nice app for those of you that might have experienced the annoying "plus" sign or some other weird symbol in your notification bar that takes you to some website when you click on it, it is caused from rouge app's couldn't figure it out for the life of me...However if you go the market and download the app called "airpush detector" it will tell you what app is the culprit and it's free! Found out mine was coming from Music Paradise...enjoy.
Agree. Be aware of free music apps and specially mp3 download apps.

I'm downloading 'airpush detector' along with 'addons detector'. We will see how it works. Usually my biggest concern about this type of apps is how much it consumes the cpu/memory and battery.
I have always wondered why companies push ads, do people actually click them? I think the whole ad supported internet is a bubble that is about to pop, and pull down companies like google with it.

Airpush detector - simple and one click refresh. Light weight apk.
Addons detector - heavier than Airpush. Create 'Addons detector' option at Settings > Accessbility. Provide options to turn on or off.
I'm not going to provide the product review in here but personally Airpush detector seems like better fit to me. Kept Airpush but removed Addons.

Unfortunately there are those that do push them. My wife came running up to me just the other day and said, "Honey look! I just won an iPad3!" Before I could look at the push notification she clicked it.
Fortunately I stopped her before she started entering all of her personal information!
EDIT: Needless to say I used Airpush and found the offending app and helped her to remove it.
The airpush phenomenon is becoming more and more virus like. My customers devices get infected with this crap, and constantly get an internal memory full error, consistant lag and power cycling. It not until I either hard reset or remove the culprit app do these things stop. I've escalated this to my S&R manager, and was told he was pushing to get eTicket its own complaint type devoted to the airpush virus.
There is also a airpush blocker on the market. It works great for me. Blocks the notification add from several sources. "Notification add Killer" or "NAK" is also a good detector/uninstaller.

Promise people free stuff, no matter how scam-like, and they will bite...
People even fall for the Nigeria 409 scams still... Blows my mind.
And as long as gullible people like that exist, others will prey upon them.

Lol yeah we had a nice long talk about scams and how nothing is ever "free“.
It just blows my mind, people can be so smart but they see the words "FREE IPAD" then they throw the smarts out the window.

Just installed Autostarts, hoping to take care of some of the wakeups that are killing my battery.
What have you disabled from autostarting?
I'm on Jedi 6.1.2, debloated a good bit, but Android has been waking my GN2 up over 500 times during the course of a day.
Awesome question I've been meaning to post it as well

Everything for Google Maps? Not sure what else to turn off. :S
I disabled everything except email, calendar. Even maps. Why the hell do I need maps running background? I am not using check-in apps or such...
---------- Post added at 03:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:06 AM ----------
Well not exactly all... you cant disable all. Its just common sense. Leave the system apps like phone, contacts, clock etc.... I disabled almost all 3rd part apps just left the ones that I want it to start such as beats audio, lux light etc...
Is it possible to completely replace stock sms app with another app like gosms or handcent ? so the stock sms app will be deleted witought causing problems.
You can remove it but I'm not sure if the app itself is required to actually send/receive messages. Why do you need it gone so bad anyway?
Because my philosophy is "one app for every function" I hate having two apps for the same function.
app info > disable
Well if you really want to, you can use Titanium Backup to "Freeze" the app. It will remove it from your launcher and everything just as if it were uninstalled. You can un-freeze it if it breaks something. If you want to take more drastic measures, you can use root uninstaller. But if this breaks your SMS functions, you need to know how to get it back.

app interaction with the system is all about Intent, the ability to broadcast to Android "hello, I'm an app with SMS capabilities, and I can do the same tasks that stock SMS app do"
Like you can remove stock launcher from a rom zip as long as you put in another launcher's apk.

If you have a custom launcher you could always hide it and stop the push notifications.
Good to know ! Thanks guys, you've been great help.
Now someone can close this thread for it is no longer needed
Hi, I just want to share with you the list of apps I have disabled using "Package Disabler Pro".
The app costs a couple of dollars and does not need root: it only disables apps and does not remove them.
I am attaching the XML file: you can either import this in the app (and modify the outcome) or open the file to see the list of disabled apps.
Two more apps that can be disabled are...
... com.sec.android.app.soundalive: the equaliser
... com.sec.hearingadjust: tweaks audio thru headphones based on an audio test
Be careful that by disabling get the following apps (list not exhaustive) you may get FC's in some settings:
- Themes (on top of the main settings page)
- Calendar, Messages (sms), Email (in sound settings)
Nothing to be worried about: it's just bad coding from Samsung

Be careful about disabling touchwiz. If you don´t have a launcher, you will end up in a reboot loop (read it elsewhere).
Btw, I am using it too. Will post the list briefly, but I am having problems: cant take any screenshots. Pressing the home button and power button simultaneously does nothing. Any ideas?

There is a massive thread going on for this with the note 5. I have been keeping track. But is the bloat carrier specific? I'm with 3 UK. I have package disabler pro and have done nothing with it as I'm worried running an xml for say an American bloated handset. Will cause issues. I don't like just turning of something when I have no idea what it's for.

Then do it manually

Hi thanks for the list. I used the debloater app along with the list above to remove a boat load of apps.
I am removing a few more, will soon post a new list. Phone battery is now lasting a lot longer. Have also installed Google Launcher: it is a lot smoother than touch wiz, especially scrollable widgets.
Updated OP with more info and a new XML fie.
Enjoy...
I'm not seeing any attachment on OP. How do I get the XML file? Thanks.
Try now
What's the option that turns down the battery stats?
Because I go to the options and it doesn't show up the battery option
True... didn't notice... will try to find out

A little to agressive (i lost some basic apps and I saw NFC and Miracast disabled) but I re-enabled what I needed and looks good. Had only one force close in settings.apk but might be related to missing battery options which I re-enabled as well. But overall great work, beer for you!
