i don't know what the big deal is about exynos. the s4 has proven to be a competent SOC and pretty good on power management. the padfone 2 is a S4 pro even and rumored to be quad. i do give the nod to exynos having mali400 gpu though. not because it's more powerful, (because the adreno 320 is a powerhouse itself), but the mali400 has more support. all that said i'd rather see more imagination technologies in SOC's because they're very good gpu's and have a lot more support, iphone having a lot to do with that.

I would go crazy. I think that device is great . I actually know someone who paid and got it imported.

All ASUS devices have been pretty close to stock AOSP so far (and the Nexus 7 is). All of them run ICS or JB. It could happen. Oh god. Please let this happen.
Just look at these specs:
http://www.androidauthority.com/asus-padfone-2-specs-116921/
1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro
2 GB RAM
13 MP camera
Penta-band HSPA (and LTE??)
720p screen (unknown tech)
Not to mention the ability to ****ing dock the thing into a tablet. And then again into the keyboard (which I enjoy with my TF101).

You won't see that type of SOC in a Nexus. They'll probably go with next OMAP. It's gonna be something that's completely open.

At least you can fix those... with color control. There is none as of yet for tegra devices. And I'll take calibratable, saturated, true blacks, and "burn ins" than a crappy IPS screen where black is only black at 0% and colors are washed out.
Whoever makes the next nexus it better have a samoled. Or at least a SuperLCD2 at least those don't look washed out.

Lol okay bud. just because you haven't doesn't mean nobody has. And FYI my screen will outlast that Samoled+ too many blue pixels and that is the point of the pentile display. Longevity.

Prepared for a ridiculous price? I'll pass.

Yeah this isn't the most amazing news. It'll be ridiculously expensive, and the specs aren't the best of the best or anything. By the time this launches, it'll be uninteresting. Cool concept, but it lacks the best of both the individual worlds.

That would be cool.. and as far as samoled its ok but I prefer LCD.... Love the screen on my LTE and nexus screen is decent.

nexus this sunday?

got an email today...galaxy nexus is coming this sunday! along with the viper... im sure you've all heard about the hike in TEP prices as well for lte devices -___-
your late to the party. pre-orders are sold out. mines on the way and will arrive either today tomorrow or monday. (hitting refresh on ups tracking now)
just tracked, its in my city and out for delivery!
I don't understand the appeal of the GN. It has an inferior processor and camera.
I think its the aosp.. that and LTE.. I, myself am curious as to what the data speed is going to be like on sprint.. at&t's LTE in the Houston area is a monster..
With all that said... its a new toy.. ;-D

no buttons, pogo pins charging, first to get jellybean, nfc (love using google wallet), processor is good enough, camera is about the sensor not the megapixels (although im sure the software may be holding back the potential).
i take pictures with my phones for a living, when lowering the mega pixels to make the pix easier to send, its still better than the images sent from my droid x or o.g. evo.... like i said sensor... and you are right anyway, epic does take better pix.
LOL no one signed up for the viper, not 1 preorder, wonder why.... lol

whether or not our device is better is certainly no reason to not be excited for the beginning stages of the lte transition ;p
does the galaxy nexus have the curved appeal like the nexus s?
The Gnex is a great device.
First of All,
- It's AOSP (Vanilla ICS)
- Development support (means EVERYTHING is unlocked)
- OCable CPU/GPU
- CNA/AOKP/Gummy base device
- 720p screen
- LTE capable
It's got a lot of what the ET4G doesn't. The CPU/camera may be better on the E4GT, but the GNex still has other specifications that are favored by many.
Yeah, people were a little disappointed when the NS4G specs were revealed (camera not as good as OG Epic etc) but I have more fun now with this phone than I did when I got it. Development will probably be alive and thriving for a long time on the GNex

IMO the 720p screen wasn't a deal breaker our screen looks almost the same

For people wanting a s3, just a little note

The us s3 is a dual core chip with only two threads available at one time at the most, same as our phone I presume. Which means you will probably are better off with the s2 until the s4 comes out.

Seriously?
GSIII
GSII
Twice the RAM, can handle an SD card twice the size of the S2, the screen is almost a half inch larger, the screen resolution is higher by a long shot (1280x720 vs 800x400) and a larger battery. I'd say the dual-core processor is a non-issue. Aside from benchmarks, you won't be pushing either of these phones enough to truly take advantage of those two cores let alone two more.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the processor is the next gen Snap Dragon S4 whereas the GS2 has the Snap Dragon S3 processor. Newer tech, better use of what it has.

I agree.. I mean our phone kicks ass. But there is not doubt that the S3 is better
I like my Roms the way I like my women..... Clean and smooth
What's also great about the s3 is how they are identical wit all us variants. The body is the same with all s3 models. Which means development is merged with Sprint atnt n Verizon. Then you have accessories that fit all models which means more to pick from.just overall a better phone not just spec wise.
My wife still had the s2 which is why I'll be on both forums but I feel there is more potential with s3

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
The s3 does have better hardware, but with the software available, you will notice very little, if any difference in anything you will use your phone for. You could have 8 cores, it's not going to make your phone do anything noticeably better than the s2 or gnex. I think until we get the software to utilize all the cores, the only things that really matter right now are better camera/battery/screen..

I went to t-mobile today to see the phone in person.
First impressions were less than exciting. Even though the resolution is far better, its pixel arrangement makes it look grainy. Ours seems just as sharp from normal hand held position. Also, even though its much faster, ours keeps up with all the current software and games.
On our S2, GTA 3 runs smooth with resolution on high and draw distance about 1/3 (everything else maxed). The S3 could probably handle full resolution and distance, although thats quite a bit more screen space to fill...
I would appreciate a wider variety of accessories and rom options, however ill definatly wait until its cheaper, or see whats next.
Zomg you fools. The s4 krait CPU in the s3 demolishes EVERY SoC out except the quad core exynos. Stop comparing the s4 to the s3 in our phones just because its dual core. Put it this way. The s3 in our phone is the Intel core2duo. The s4 is the Intel core i3. Both dual core but the i3, because of revamped architecture and smaller manufacturing process completely destroys the core2duo. Actually it also out performs core2quads. Cores and MHz don't make the end product. Look up benchmarks and you'll see the s4 has almost twice the performance of any dual core SoC out. Even beats tegra 3...

The s3 has a PenTile display. Pentile = poop. And as far as the processor goes yes is very nice but I think that hardware has gotten to kind of a plateau in that even with the new quad cores out there the performance jump is minimal at best from ours. People go overboard with the pentile thing. My epic 4g had a pentile screen. I did notice a difference between that screen and this one but it isn't a deal breaker. A pentile screen at a 720p Res on a 5 inch screen wouldnt noticeable whatsoever. The difference was minimal at 480p. I doubt you'd be able to tell a difference at a high res like that.

it won't be very different on the international S3 either because our OS doesn't even utilize all 4 cores correctly..... and wouldn't 2gb ram be better for multitasking given that the OS optimizes with the utilization of 2 cores.
It might eat up numbers and crunch in more numbers per second but it can't do more things at once than its supposed to. The Intel i3 is a dual core but it's limited to two threads I think and if that use the case do is the core duo. Even though numbers might be able to conceive at the right time if the processes were not stream independent, important things like talking recording downloading streaming and torrent cannot be done any better with a resume boost.

[DISCUSSION] New Nexus Device?

I have been discussing the expectations of the next Nexus device with Qbking77 and other ACS members.
Have any of you heard any news or even rumors of the next Nexus device?
Also, what are your expectations of a new Nexus phone? Including:
-Screen specs
-Internal specs
-Etc;
Input would be GREATLY appreciated on this! Thanks guys!
I think is going to be another Samsung phone. That's what I read, that google had chosen them again.
I also heard that we were going to see 5 Nexus phones but I highly doubt it.
I will probably be a quadcore but i don't really see anything wrong if they go dual core, maybe same screen size or a small bump to 4.8 to be along the lines of the Galaxy S3. 2gb or Ram and improves screen, possibly still pentile technology, which i don't mind to be honest. A 8mp improved camera.
I hope they use this OMAP processor or Exynos. Something completely open source for easy hacks and tweaks.

- TI OMAP 5 processor
- 1 gb of memory..
- 16/32 gb internal storage (no external memory)
- 8 megapixel + FF camera
- curved glass screen
- notification light
- NFC
- possibly with android 5.0
and im hoping they will make only unlocked version..

Motorola RAZR thinness maybe... But knowing their reputation with Motoblur I doubt they would let Google get away with a device without it...

not a single rom/apps harness the entire 1gb of memory until now, even most costum rom builders here are always keeping their rom memory friendly.. so really theres no point having over 2gb of memory beside spec sheet show-off..
also, smartphone screens caps at 5 inch max imo.. above that would be galaxy note territory.. and i dont think nexuses would compete with note..
Here's what I wish next nexus has:
4-4.6' super amoled HD/plus/super LCD.
latest TI omap/ other powerful processor
16/32 GB storage for international version!
8/12 MP + other hardware features/Low light..etc
1+ GB RAM
battery life Razor MAxx or S3. 3.8V battery
build quality like One X or Razor. as thin as S3/One X.
I wish there are many nexus devices with various screen size. For me 4 inch screen is the best size....

[Q] Nexus 4, don't you think LG screw it up?

Hi there,
So my question is, what do you think of the nexus 4?
Personally i think in the front it looks ferocious but in the back part, it looks like shiny and LGfab (disgusting) style, they should put a mirror in there also.
Also, do you think that the rumors of a GN2 or a GN+ will become true?
Plz god YES.
I think nexus phones HAVE to be from HTC or (now) samsung!!!
Will I buy it!?
Yes, cause its google's so the expectation can be above the sky! I dont think that it is better than our beloved GNexus.
Thank you
I personally think it looks fantastic. But to each his own. I've always had Samsung phones including both Nexus' made by them. Although I wish Samsung had another run with it Lg isn't stopping me from buying the nexus 4.

I still love my galaxy nexus no need buy nexus 4.
I love it, I think the glass construction will make it feel much more premium and better in the hand than the GNex.
Thanks for the laugh. This is the one and only. LG Google Nexus⁴.
Take it or leave it. The "GNex+" is the Touchwiz NatureUX Samsung Galaxy Premier. It just simply has the gut of the GNexus smashed into a Touchwiz phone.
IMO the N⁴ is the most beautiful Nexus made so far. Finally a Premium feeling device. And iPhone 4S has a shiny apple logo smacked right on the middle of the back, still a best sellermad:Nexus should be). So yeah.
--------------------------------------------------
If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
I believe no matter how popular it is LG is a bad phone manufacturer. Point blank. They get a phone slap their ui on it and call it flagship......noooo. HTC is the way to be. Literally they should have taken over after Samsung.

How can anyone say without touching one? The phone hasn't even been released yet. No regular users (or even reviewers) have had quality time with it.
As for the GNex+ or GN2, those phones don't exist and never will exist.
I know I'm probably speaking blasphemy here, but the only two attractive features of the Nexus 4 are the Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of LPDDR2, and honestly, Android is so piss-poor at managing multi-core and RAM that those specs won't make it any faster than an iPhone 5 or any of the upcoming WP8 devices until, I'm gonna just guess here, but probably Android 5 or 5.1.
Hard truth.

Me, too.
I think putting a quad-core in is a stupid idea unless you severely underclock it. A good dual-core S4 like the HTC One S (which performs better than the quad-core One X in most situations due to the smaller resolution) would have been largely sufficient. Thumbs up for the memory upgrade, though.
I remain doubtful w.r.t. the IPS screen. I'm the first to admit that the Super AMOLED in our Galaxy Nexus has wonderful contrast, homogeneity and sharpness, but the gamut + default color profile suck and there is hella ghosting. I hope the new screen will be an improvement.
It's good that they managed to fit a 2100 mAh battery in there but if it comes at the expense of not being able to carry backup batteries, then I don't like it. I always have a spare battery when travelling and it would feel quite wrong for me to use a monolithic phone. Bleh.
Still no micro-SD slot though it was one of the many complaints about the Galaxy Nexus.
Europe is quite slow with true 4G deployment so why no 42Mbps DC-HSPA+?
What about the build quality of other LG phones? How are they?

It's good that they managed to fit a 2100 mAh battery in there but if it comes at the expense of not being able to carry backup batteries, then I don't like it. I always have a spare battery when travelling and it would feel quite wrong for me to use a monolithic phone. Bleh.

Um u could just buy an external battery that charges it. Like how iphones do it. You charge the battery, and u connect it to the Port and it charges. So that is not an excuse why someone wouldn't want to upgrade.

This is a stupid regret full buyer of LG. I have a few words to say. Whatever they did to this, will be awesome. Why? Google shall support it in software and LG does the hardware...
Now Let me tell you this. LG promised my phone(Optimus Black) ICS at the third quarter of this year. Guess what? Sorry, we still don't have any updates of the ICS. UP TILL NOW. So, u really should buy it LG has everything good except user support. And now, Google collaborates with LG and that solves everything!

Android isn't the only culprit that can't manage multi-core, we've had single core for so long that getting proper dual-core optimisation will take at least another 2-3 years.
The jump from dual-core to quad-core was a much smaller leap than from single-core to dual-core.
The truth is that most apps don't scale well.

I think that Google picked lg. I wonder if Google has their own forum, where they make threads wondering if their customers are retarded? Come on, the phone isn't even out yet. Any complaint has been refuted a dozen times in any of these dozens of threads. Google birthed the magic box (gnex) everyone here loves so dearly, and now they made a new one. I apologize for my bluntness, but it's ****ing GOOGLE, and I'm gonna go ahead and presume that they known how the hell to oversee their flagship device's production. The phone is probly awesome. Buy it, don't, or make your own phone.

Still no micro-SD slot though it was one of the many complaints about the Galaxy Nexus.
Europe is quite slow with true 4G deployment so why no 42Mbps DC-HSPA+?

I like how it looks and i think IPS screen will look gorgeous, but why would i want to switch from my Galaxy Nexus? Performance is still snappy, dev support is amazing.
And i've ordered new housing for my phone for 20 bucks and it looks like new now. So i think i'll stick with it for another 6 months at least.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Hey folks, I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a chance of porting the S4 clock over to the N4. I really like the simple look of it. Thanks

Check fancy widgets or beautiful widgets. I did a quick search on Google. I suggest searching Google before you post.
And I believe its just the touchwiz clock. Look for that.
I think it looks horrendous but I'm a minimal guy.
Hope that helps

AW: Samsung Galaxy S4
Because it's more Galaxy S 3.5 than Galaxy S 4. Same thing Apple did with iPhone 4>4S.

Still a upgrade regardless...... who cares what they name the phone. At the end of the day, its a success on Samsung's part.

That's what I'm saying. They doubled the RAM, improved the processor, raised the resolution, made the screen bigger, improved the camera, added some pretty cool software features and yet people are complaining and bashing it lol.
I'm a Nexus fan and will always buy Nexus phones, but the S4 is a solid device and will sell like hotcakes.
People just love to complain.

Only thing i hate is that they sticked with that "white and blue" colors.. i've allways loved black phones:/
They made a special edition SIII in black.. wich had LTE.. but it costed like the same as the SIII + half of that again.. xD made me sad..I wanted to try they're new processors power etc But i had my friends SIII for two weeks, so i got to root and flash and have alittle fun
it still has a hard home key. wtf, arent hard key that only serve one purpose morbidly outdated? and capacitive keys as well, i just always feel as if that is space that could be used for more screen and less hardware... but then again im a google whore and the nexus line can do no wrong.

I agree lol, what did we get from galaxy nexus to nexus 4? A little more pixel, diferent screen tech, bump on camera, mmm better build..... Not much difference software update wasn't there at all, I'm hoping to see Google add a lot feature on their upcoming update, I like TW feature but I hate how it looks completely and sometimes don't feel like flashing a theme, anyways back on topic to the op you might find one in the market soon or here in XDA

Well to be fair..... if you have physical buttons then you don't have onscreen keys meaning more screen estate.

Keep in mind that the Galaxy S line has been a huge success from the S, to the S3. With each one you only ever see them improving on what the last one had. The S4, is essentially a way faster S1.
Like the iPhone 5, it is essentially a way faster iPhone3G.
What you'll notice is that you'll only find drastic changes to the design if what was previously done didn't sell well.
Think about Nokia and Windows Phone. They've had so little success that they had to go for broke and change everything about their phones. Even Sony took the 'Ericsson' out of their brand to ditch the bad rep and start anew.
The S3 was insanely popular, so the S4 will only have incremental changes. If the S3 had a physical home key and was so successful, why take it out?

Their two colors is white and black for the S4. Black coming back was a good move.

EDIT: I saw it, it's called "Nova Black".. in the videos it dosn't look black, or dosn't even look good. I have to see this for my own eyes before even comparing it to my sexy N4!

i understand what youre saying as far as designs go. i just hate buttons is all. but as far as popularity goes apple had it right with the iphone 4, and even being an adamant hater of all things apple, i still like how the iphone 4 looks and feels in the hands. but for now im gonna stick with my n4 and pretend to be pretentious because i paid half and got it unlocked
