I have been discussing the expectations of the next Nexus device with Qbking77 and other ACS members.
Have any of you heard any news or even rumors of the next Nexus device?
Also, what are your expectations of a new Nexus phone? Including:
-Screen specs
-Internal specs
-Etc;
Input would be GREATLY appreciated on this! Thanks guys!
I think is going to be another Samsung phone. That's what I read, that google had chosen them again.
I also heard that we were going to see 5 Nexus phones but I highly doubt it.
I will probably be a quadcore but i don't really see anything wrong if they go dual core, maybe same screen size or a small bump to 4.8 to be along the lines of the Galaxy S3. 2gb or Ram and improves screen, possibly still pentile technology, which i don't mind to be honest. A 8mp improved camera.
I hope they use this OMAP processor or Exynos. Something completely open source for easy hacks and tweaks.

i havent heard new rumors for the next nexus apart from 5 nexuses rumors..
and my expectations for the next nexus following todays android phone footprint:
- made by samsung (again)
- 4.65 to 5 inch HD SAMOLED screen (with + maybe?)
- TI OMAP 5 processor
- 1 gb of memory..
- 16/32 gb internal storage (no external memory)
- 8 megapixel + FF camera
- curved glass screen
- notification light
- NFC
- possibly with android 5.0
and im hoping they will make only unlocked version..

Well I know that Google said they we're releasing 5 "devices" which the first two were the Nexus 7 and that Q thing...
But yeah, I hope it is Samsung too. I hope to see a thinner device as well. I mean the Gnex is thin but nothing like the RAZR! My father has one and I can't believe how incredibly thin it is!
As far as the innards, your right... It's gotta be quad core...

I've stopped caring about bleeding edge and have started caring about what Google cares about for their Nexus devices. A collection of hardware and software that not only "just works" but does so while giving a fantastic, great performing, and stable user experience.
Love my Galaxy Nexus and when upgrade time comes I'll continue to buy whatever they have up their sleeve, regardless of who they choose to have manufacture it.
Google IMO knows their ****.

Hey as long as they make it Black or Gunmetal color and not "Pebble Blue" I'll take those specs!
Curved glass is a must though... I love it on this Gnex
I think it would be pretty awesome to see Google pair up with motorolas hardware that would make a pretty awsome phone in my opinion.

Motorola RAZR thinness maybe... But knowing their reputation with Motoblur I doubt they would let Google get away with a device without it...
But YES the build quality of a Motorola would feel slightly better than the plasticity of the Nexus devices in the past...
Let's all cross our fingers! Lolz.
I enjoy the 4.65" screen but I think it's still pushing it. I sincerely hope it doesn't get any bigger than it already is, but I know plenty of people would beg to differ.

As long as the next one has softkey's I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen due to the fact that the keys take up screen space...
But 5" would be WAY too much... I would never get a Galaxy Note for that reason...
A better battery it's all I want
I don't care if the screen gets larger as long as they go longer rather than wider again like they did with this one.

not a single rom/apps harness the entire 1gb of memory until now, even most costum rom builders here are always keeping their rom memory friendly.. so really theres no point having over 2gb of memory beside spec sheet show-off..
also, smartphone screens caps at 5 inch max imo.. above that would be galaxy note territory.. and i dont think nexuses would compete with note..
Here's what I wish next nexus has:
4-4.6' super amoled HD/plus/super LCD.
latest TI omap/ other powerful processor
16/32 GB storage for international version!
8/12 MP + other hardware features/Low light..etc
1+ GB RAM
battery life Razor MAxx or S3. 3.8V battery
build quality like One X or Razor. as thin as S3/One X.
I wish there are many nexus devices with various screen size. For me 4 inch screen is the best size....

Well, i have to say that i love the Pure Google Experience that Nexus phones brings to customers, i feel really atracted by the fact that Nexus phones gets updates so frequently and mainly it's style. I followed closely all the Nexus Phones, Specially the last one, the Galaxy Nexus. Although i like it very much, The desing could be a bit more attractive, what disappointed to me is the hardware. 5 Megapixel Sensor in a TI OMAP 4460 Chipset? Are you Kidding me? What could be the reason, don't know, although it only carries 5mp camera the quality is very good and the 1080p 30fps video recording is good also, but i expected a better hardware, don't know in that moment what was better, anyways, the hardware could handle the 720p resolution just fine. What i'd like to see in the next Nexus phone is:
*Display: 4.7" with 720p Resolution, Super Amoled+ without Pentile.
*1.5 GB or 2GB of RAM
*TI OMAP5430 or 5432 Processor at 1.5 or 2.0 GHz 28nm Dual Core or Quad Core Processor with POWERVR™ SGX544-MPx
*8MP Camera (Its fine with 8mp but if they want to add 12mp or 20mp its welcome!) with 1080p 60fps Video recording.
*Better audio and Speaker hardware.
*2150mAh Battery
*Android 5.0 Jelly Bean.
*4G LTE Support
What do you expect from the next Nexus Phone?
You pretty much nailed the specs just need the shell, camera and battery to follow suit.

Seriously. Especially considering the MAXX can do it now. All phones should have it by the end of the year.
As far as OP goes, I'm down with that except:
*we need a bigger battery than 2150mAh. Let's do 3000mAh+, we know its possible.
*we don't need a larger camera sensor, we need a better one. With good software. MP's don't really matter.
*why just LTE? nowhere else in the world is close to adopting LTE other than North America. Let's see 42mbps (why not 84mbps?) dual-carrier HSPA+, with a pentaband radio. We need that option too.

Except it'll be for sale in November, and all phones will have similar specs by that time.
The Nexus S was ~$600 with WVGA screen, 512mb RAM and 1ghz single core processor in 2010.

the presence of the sd card slot makes this article fishy. we all now what's Google's take on that matter. also if they're going to use a dual core, it's gonna be A-15.
For me the dual core is pity . Yet the US version of the SGS3 runs fine on a good dual core.
If they bring out a new nexus it has:
- A15 dual-core
- OR a A9 quad-core
A A9 dual-core is hardly an upgrade from the Galaxy Nexus. So this is bogus
publisher of the article said in comments:
We made a mistake in the second picture sorry.
And we are not sure if codename GT-I9260 = NEXUS.[...]no we have the information about I9260.

If it is GSM, then it will be pentaband (work on both). I don't think Google will release another GSM Nexus that isn't pentaband.
I don't think that the next Nexus will be a super phone. Past 2 nexus devices didn't pack stellar specs. I think Google doesn't want a stellar device, they just want something that'll get the job done with developers. I LOVE the size of the GNex and hope they don't go bigger. My 3 cents.

- Please no increase in screen size. Okay, I could live with 4.8" but let's stop there then.
- You won't see too much internal memory as long as Google tries to push its cloud services.
- I actually like the phone jack on the bottom. If I take the GNex out of the pocket when it's up side down, I automatically have it correctly in my hand.
- I totally agree on bigger battery! It's one of my most-wanted features!

OMAP 5 would be great! But there aren't that many possibilities in terms of open source anyway. I'm not sure about Tegra, but I'm pretty sure Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets are too closed down to come into a Nexus device. So there's not a lot remaining But I too hope they definitely bring an A15 based SoC. We really need better power management!

Internal memory? The Verizon Galaxy Nexus starts off with 32GB; whereas, the GSM version starts at 16GB. There was a rumor that there will be a 32GB GSM and it was cancelled. Options are good as long as the price isn't too much to not justify the purchase. Even a better choice would be to offer a 16GB/32GB/64GB. But I really prefer 32GB as the starting point and then 64GB if people want that. I personally don't like the cloud because I'm in New York City, I spend a lot of time underground (subways) and there isn't service down there. Not to mention, if you're on a carrier with a monthly cap (AT&T, Verizon) cloud is a huge no no as well.
Secondly, I guess it's just preference. I personally prefer mines up top because of my headphones (its a L shaped and not I shaped so L shape goes better for top. Just my opinion.
Battery... I hope so too! I hope they follow the hands of Galaxy Note II in terms of battery without compromising the size of the phone.
Although I do wish Google marketed their Nexus line of phones better. It could be a huge blow to Apple's iPhone 5.
Basically, I am wondering if anyone is considering holding off on the Note II for something greater. Don't get me wrong, the Note II has fantastic specs; but all the breakthrough recently has made me wonder.
Samsung is starting to make their own mobile cameras, and is rumored to have a 13MP (I know MP isn't everything). This could mean drastic improvement on lenses and low light snapping. And now with recent news that Samsung has broke through with a DDR3 memory chip. Oppo also has a 5" 1080p, 445 PPI screen.
All this makes me think killer phones will be shown at CES, that aren't the typical improvements to annual versions. Anyone else going to hold off?

I think the note can hold its ground even with the 1080p displays and new quad core snap Dragon processors coming out. And if you want a 5.5 inch screen with s pen capabilities the note is the only way to go, and don't forget the huge 3100 mah battery that may rival the razr max battery life.

Will it make the Note 2 any less interesting ? The Note 2 has features (S pen) that a oppo 1080P screen with not replace.
otherwise I would be still with my ipad 3 with that retina display
I also want to try a bigger screen than my Galaxy nexus and see if I would be ok to stop using my nexus 7 as well.
big screen, a proper stylus, and separate keys.
i doubt any phone will have that until the note 3.
I think the note ii is perfect since they really focused on old technology and made it better, I'm talking about software, battery life, less bugs, and more development. If u hold of to a phone with new breakthrough technology the software, battery life, bugs, and development will be very low/bad. By the time your eligable for an upgrade all the breakthrough technology will be top notch running at its best capabilities

i don't know what the big deal is about exynos. the s4 has proven to be a competent SOC and pretty good on power management. the padfone 2 is a S4 pro even and rumored to be quad. i do give the nod to exynos having mali400 gpu though. not because it's more powerful, (because the adreno 320 is a powerhouse itself), but the mali400 has more support. all that said i'd rather see more imagination technologies in SOC's because they're very good gpu's and have a lot more support, iphone having a lot to do with that.

http://www.androidauthority.com/asus-padfone-2-specs-116921/
1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro
2 GB RAM
13 MP camera
Penta-band HSPA (and LTE??)
720p screen (unknown tech)
Not to mention the ability to ****ing dock the thing into a tablet. And then again into the keyboard (which I enjoy with my TF101).

it would be freaking awesome if it has wolfson audio chip. and audience noise cancellation, but i could let that one slide. wolfson is a must. if the lte bands are compatible with atnt....oooOoOOoOoOoOoOoooOOoOOoOoOO.... :highfive:
I'd prepare for washed IPS screens and screen lifts.

You won't see that type of SOC in a Nexus. They'll probably go with next OMAP. It's gonna be something that's completely open.

At least you can fix those... with color control. There is none as of yet for tegra devices. And I'll take calibratable, saturated, true blacks, and "burn ins" than a crappy IPS screen where black is only black at 0% and colors are washed out.
Whoever makes the next nexus it better have a samoled. Or at least a SuperLCD2 at least those don't look washed out.

Sorry nothing has fixed burn in for me.... And samoled is a waste when samoled+ has been around for over a year.... My gs2 kills my nexus and gs3 in screen quality

Lol okay bud. just because you haven't doesn't mean nobody has. And FYI my screen will outlast that Samoled+ too many blue pixels and that is the point of the pentile display. Longevity.

Prepared for a ridiculous price? I'll pass.
Yeah this isn't the most amazing news. It'll be ridiculously expensive, and the specs aren't the best of the best or anything. By the time this launches, it'll be uninteresting. Cool concept, but it lacks the best of both the individual worlds.
That would be cool.. and as far as samoled its ok but I prefer LCD.... Love the screen on my LTE and nexus screen is decent.

About the display.... Look at the pic! Can it be?!?!?!
I don't even care if its the next nexus. Its aosp with excellent support. If it comes to the us I'll buy it no matter what the cost...

Actually a memeber of the cm team went on to say why we shouldn't buy exynos phones. It should be in the upper part of r/android

What's that ringing... oh it's my phone, crap it's in my tablet, crap which is docked, crap which is in it's sleeve, crap which is in my bag, crap which is in the trunk of the car... I want this bad but I can soooo see me saying this at least once a week.
Hey guys so I've been wanting to get a new phone. So far I'm looking at nexus 4/note 2/one x+.
I'm looking for a quad core phone.
Any ideas? Suggestions?
So far I've been advised to wait until january to get a new phone. Or use windows 8 phones. Any ideas?

Its too late for the Nexus 4 cause google wont send it until January, the note 2 is fast but the build materials are bad(cheap plastic), to me looks like the best choice is the One X+...
So you have to wait for the great N4(I have one) or get a HOX+ that is also a great phone
Windows Phone is a joke, you cant even share things by bluetooth
HTC DNA? Apparently it's the best phone.

DNA doesnt have storage expansion. damn.. so many choices. note 2 looks to be the best choice with the cheap plastic aside. note 2 also has a lower pixel density. dna wins at front facing camera but with only 16gb built in its not enough. onex+ has only 1gb ram.
anyone know any other phones with large storage/expansion, quad core, 2gb ram?
Hmmm, 16gb should be enough for everything. But, I guess the note 2 is the best for you.

Well the LG Optimus G have 32Gb, 12mp camera, quadcore s4 pro, 2Gb RAM, also gets the highest benchmarks score than any other phone
I have a Nexus 4. It's fast but 4.7" is *almost* too big for my small girlish hands and the camera isn't particularly great. I think my arc S took much better pictures tbh.
If I was going to buy a new device tomorrow I'd probably try one of these:
http://www.reghardware.com/2012/11/19/review_acer_cloud_mobile_android_handset/
It's an Acer S500. Yes, I'd never heard about their phones either but I really like the design of this, the screen is absolutely amazing, it's nearly stock Android (tweaked lock screen and notification bar and that's about it), it has a removable battery and a microSD card slot. It's only dual-core though but in the videos I've seen it looks pretty fast. But I have no idea if Acer are any good or not.
I just can't get excited about HTC phones.
