Why would Google put am sd card slot when they have practically abandoned the idea both in the galaxy nexus and nexus 7?

the presence of the sd card slot makes this article fishy. we all now what's Google's take on that matter. also if they're going to use a dual core, it's gonna be A-15.
For me the dual core is pity . Yet the US version of the SGS3 runs fine on a good dual core.
If they bring out a new nexus it has:
- A15 dual-core
- OR a A9 quad-core
A A9 dual-core is hardly an upgrade from the Galaxy Nexus. So this is bogus
publisher of the article said in comments:
We made a mistake in the second picture sorry.
And we are not sure if codename GT-I9260 = NEXUS.[...]no we have the information about I9260.
But I9250 Galaxy Nexus is close…. so thats the reason we used ” nexus ” as name.

so maybe there will be a gt-i9260 but not nexus. Could be a s2 plus.
Yea dual core a9 at any frequency is a no go. Maybe it will be a rerelease of the gnex?

If it is GSM, then it will be pentaband (work on both). I don't think Google will release another GSM Nexus that isn't pentaband.
I don't think that the next Nexus will be a super phone. Past 2 nexus devices didn't pack stellar specs. I think Google doesn't want a stellar device, they just want something that'll get the job done with developers. I LOVE the size of the GNex and hope they don't go bigger. My 3 cents.

Ok, three phones + Nexus 7 + Nexus Q = Five Nexus devices.

Really hope it isn't a dual core a9 again, or I'll give it a miss
Then again will announce for official announcement before deciding anything, strange we haven't had any news yet.. this time last year I'm sure we knew some things
Hoping for a 4.8", 32GB internal memory as the lowest (64GB possibility? in a more expensive version, 16GB is meh), 3.5mm" jack up on top instead of bottom, 2500 mAh battery.
i think next nexus will run omap5.
and the purpose of the nexus is to show that android can run butter smooth with a not-top-of-the-line device.

- Please no increase in screen size. Okay, I could live with 4.8" but let's stop there then.
- You won't see too much internal memory as long as Google tries to push its cloud services.
- I actually like the phone jack on the bottom. If I take the GNex out of the pocket when it's up side down, I automatically have it correctly in my hand.
- I totally agree on bigger battery! It's one of my most-wanted features!

OMAP 5 would be great! But there aren't that many possibilities in terms of open source anyway. I'm not sure about Tegra, but I'm pretty sure Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets are too closed down to come into a Nexus device. So there's not a lot remaining But I too hope they definitely bring an A15 based SoC. We really need better power management!

Internal memory? The Verizon Galaxy Nexus starts off with 32GB; whereas, the GSM version starts at 16GB. There was a rumor that there will be a 32GB GSM and it was cancelled. Options are good as long as the price isn't too much to not justify the purchase. Even a better choice would be to offer a 16GB/32GB/64GB. But I really prefer 32GB as the starting point and then 64GB if people want that. I personally don't like the cloud because I'm in New York City, I spend a lot of time underground (subways) and there isn't service down there. Not to mention, if you're on a carrier with a monthly cap (AT&T, Verizon) cloud is a huge no no as well.
Secondly, I guess it's just preference. I personally prefer mines up top because of my headphones (its a L shaped and not I shaped so L shape goes better for top. Just my opinion.
Battery... I hope so too! I hope they follow the hands of Galaxy Note II in terms of battery without compromising the size of the phone.
Although I do wish Google marketed their Nexus line of phones better. It could be a huge blow to Apple's iPhone 5.

It's development community is what keeps the phone relevant. Take a look at the g1.its dead now but it lasted for a long time

Obsolete definition: No longer produced or used; out of date
Well the Galaxy Nexus is still being produced by google and used by us so the first part wouldn't even apply.
As for the "out of date" part? I'd have to say no...
+ Latest OS (ics)
+ Latest screen technology (super amoled hd)
+ Dual core processor (try finding a quad core in the states ... cant be done)
+ Guaranteed OS updates before any other newer devices (jellybean)
+ Best developer community
- Out of date camera (not a photographer and even if I was I'd use a dslr instead)
- Out of date battery size (buy a spare off Amazon for $8 and keep it in your pocket)
Its a niche market device. People who want Nexus phones will buy Nexus phones because they know what they are.
Until the next Nexus phone comes out, this is my phone.
I must be blind but to me the camera on the Nexus is great.

I determine a phone to be obsolete when it no longer has any manufacturer support. My sgs4g is obsolete to me because it will never see another official update of any kind. My nexus will see them so its not obsolete.

It all depends on what you expect from your phone's camera. Me? I have a bag with over $2000 worth of camera gear in it. When I want to take pics, I use that. When I take pics on my phone, I really only want to grab something quick. So my standards aren't high for my phone.
Have they come a long way and are they better on newer phones? Absolutely. I guess it just doesn't really matter to some (read: me). I've taken what I think to be nice pics.
Quality picture taking (regardless of the equipment) is all about lighting.
no not even close
Sure the HTC One series and SIII are really nice devices but the Gnex is still amazing by any standard. We will also have, I believe, the best developer support be it Google themselves or 3rd party.

Depends on how you look at it. If you view the Nexus for what it is...a developer phone with an unlockable bootloader that serves as Google's reference device for the current version of Android, then the only thing that can make a Nexus obsolete would be the next Nexus.
If you look at it as an end user device, then you could make the argument that if it's not obsolete yet, it will be in very short order with such beasts as the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S III. But then again, Nexus devices have never been at the forefront of hardware because that's not what it's about.
I take the first view. I also take this view with the tablets too. Sure, there are tablets out there that are sexier than the Xoom now, but a year later it is still the only Google Experience tablet and is the only reference tablet available, so therefore the Xoom still isn't obsolete yet.

Amen to that. My buddy was telling me today that he was going to get a GS3 on release day and mentioned the 2100 mAH battery. I said "Well yeah man, you're going to need every bit of that to power that quad core processor. My Galaxy Nexus has an 1850 mAH battery with a dual core processor and I'll guarantee you my battery life rivals yours." He said "Wow, you may have a point there." haha
I have been discussing the expectations of the next Nexus device with Qbking77 and other ACS members.
Have any of you heard any news or even rumors of the next Nexus device?
Also, what are your expectations of a new Nexus phone? Including:
-Screen specs
-Internal specs
-Etc;
Input would be GREATLY appreciated on this! Thanks guys!
I think is going to be another Samsung phone. That's what I read, that google had chosen them again.
I also heard that we were going to see 5 Nexus phones but I highly doubt it.
I will probably be a quadcore but i don't really see anything wrong if they go dual core, maybe same screen size or a small bump to 4.8 to be along the lines of the Galaxy S3. 2gb or Ram and improves screen, possibly still pentile technology, which i don't mind to be honest. A 8mp improved camera.
I hope they use this OMAP processor or Exynos. Something completely open source for easy hacks and tweaks.

i havent heard new rumors for the next nexus apart from 5 nexuses rumors..
and my expectations for the next nexus following todays android phone footprint:
- made by samsung (again)
- 4.65 to 5 inch HD SAMOLED screen (with + maybe?)
- TI OMAP 5 processor
- 1 gb of memory..
- 16/32 gb internal storage (no external memory)
- 8 megapixel + FF camera
- curved glass screen
- notification light
- NFC
- possibly with android 5.0
and im hoping they will make only unlocked version..

But yeah, I hope it is Samsung too. I hope to see a thinner device as well. I mean the Gnex is thin but nothing like the RAZR! My father has one and I can't believe how incredibly thin it is!

Motorola RAZR thinness maybe... But knowing their reputation with Motoblur I doubt they would let Google get away with a device without it...
But YES the build quality of a Motorola would feel slightly better than the plasticity of the Nexus devices in the past...

As long as the next one has softkey's I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen due to the fact that the keys take up screen space...
But 5" would be WAY too much... I would never get a Galaxy Note for that reason...

I don't care if the screen gets larger as long as they go longer rather than wider again like they did with this one.

not a single rom/apps harness the entire 1gb of memory until now, even most costum rom builders here are always keeping their rom memory friendly.. so really theres no point having over 2gb of memory beside spec sheet show-off..
also, smartphone screens caps at 5 inch max imo.. above that would be galaxy note territory.. and i dont think nexuses would compete with note..
Here's what I wish next nexus has:
4-4.6' super amoled HD/plus/super LCD.
latest TI omap/ other powerful processor
16/32 GB storage for international version!
8/12 MP + other hardware features/Low light..etc
1+ GB RAM
battery life Razor MAxx or S3. 3.8V battery
build quality like One X or Razor. as thin as S3/One X.
I wish there are many nexus devices with various screen size. For me 4 inch screen is the best size....
Now I have a dilemma. I'm very tempted to cancel my Note II pre-order for the Nexus 4, unlocked.
No LTE, no S-Pen, and no additional storage, but wireless charging, frequent updates, and no contract. Oh Google, why do you tease me so?
This is an easy one. Galaxy Note 2 all the way! I will admit that the Nexus looks more attractive than in previous leaked pics but still for the aforementioned reasons, I'm sticking with the Note.
Exactly what I thought when I read the news. I got a Note and a GNex and I go back and forth. I do find I use my Note more though so I'm keeping my pre-order for the Note 2.

I will want to read reviews but I will check them both out again in a T-Mobile store asap & may get both to see which I use more/like more..
The https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_4_16gb is the best looking LG handset (check out video at http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/nexus-4-leaked-on-video/ & http://www.google.com/nexus/4/) I've seen with good (I actually usually prefer IPS & this will have higher PPI-hopefully the speaker won't suck like prior Nexus smartphones) although obviously not perfect specs (no expandable storage etc) but is priced well. The Note2 S-pen & software are pretty unique so I wonder if I will keep both
I also want to read the reviews on: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_10_16gb as I'm not sure I'm feeling the Win8 tablet I briefly played with the other day at BestBuy.
Feelin' like a Google FanBoy today: https://play.google.com/store/devices
Even the chromebook ( https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=chromebook_samsung_wifi ) is priced to sell & I actually use the Cr-48 Google sent me more than I expected..may get one for my 9 yr old niece..
BTW, interesting video look at: http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/29/3568784/nexus-10-preview-price-release-date
I feel that different manufactures are realizing that getting updates out are a big deal to the buyers now. And even so there is always a way to get the new software on non nexus devices. My big issue with the nexus line is that I enjoy keeping my music on my phone, and that 16 gigs just cuts it to close storage wise. Also at this point no LTE is a little ridiculous, even the iPhone has it now lol.

I agree it's not the greatest trend to exclusively rely on the cloud but have you tried:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.music
"Access your entire music library instantly with the Google Play Music app, and save your favorites for offline playback"
https://play.google.com/music/listen
How much music do you want to keep locally?
Movies-video is much more of a storage hog..:
Yeah I person don't keep to much music but am known to download the high end games that take up space to. I guess I just like the piece of mind of knowing I can add a card to my phone. Especially since I just got away from the iPhone scene lol.

Easy. Nexus or Nothing.
Nexus: Google software, Google updates
AT&T Note II: All of Samsung's usual software quality control issues (Such as inability to properly deliver "Project Butter" in its entirety on Exynos 4412 - Seriously, even the GNex UI responsiveness beats it!), plus all the bugs AT&T loves to throw in. You can absolutely count on AT&T firmwares to be steaming turds.

As I agree 100% with you Entropy; the devices appeal to different markets. You have almost an inch screen size different.
Pro's and Con's of both devices. Apples to oranges. I myself will be getting both. Why not!? The nexus is only 349$ that's cheap, and 299$ if you get the 8gb.
My opinion. If you can afford the Note. Get the Nexus as well. I'll run the Note as my personal phone and Nexus as my work phone.

Yes, I heard exynos 4412 stopped dev right at the door... I love to flash a much better rom but, hmm... guess I just can't stand without card slot... 4.1 is good enough from now for me...
Still sticking with my note 2 pre-order. The gn4 looked nice except the storage options... just as bad as the note2 but at least I can throw in an sd card for my media. I will probably end up buying the gn4 or something similar to use in situations that might ruin my note2... like cycling, running, day at the beach. You get the idea. Hard to argue with a phone that has good specs and is really cheap by todays standards for off contract.

What are you referring to here? Device hasn't even launched yet.
I'm still torn and undecided. Having the best features of 4.2 implemented in the updated Search app tilts things in favor of the Note 2.
I really like the idea of the Nexus 4 but I don't think I want to go another 2 years without LTE, nor do I want to be limited to 16 GB on the device. I could live with the 16GB limitation if the N4 had LTE.
I remain really impressed with the N4 price point & its hardware aesthetics but the Note2 is still more versatile if you can put up with the size & plasticky build (I'd slap a case on it but I do wish it had a more premium exterior). I look forward to seeing them side by side in a T-Mobile store on 11/14 & may trial them both if the N4 is as impressive in person. If the N4 loud-speaker sucks like prior Nexus devices it would be a deal breaker for me but I prefer IPS' more natural colors personally. I also want to see reviews including battery life etc..I'm sure they will be pitted against each other.
I hope the US Note2 gets the split screen multitasking-multview soon : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h12245evQ4w as well as advertised screen screen recorder function http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j-oTLGPUEY & the S-Pen functionality can't be matched

Hi there,
So my question is, what do you think of the nexus 4?
Personally i think in the front it looks ferocious but in the back part, it looks like shiny and LGfab (disgusting) style, they should put a mirror in there also.
Also, do you think that the rumors of a GN2 or a GN+ will become true?
Plz god YES.
I think nexus phones HAVE to be from HTC or (now) samsung!!!
Will I buy it!?
Yes, cause its google's so the expectation can be above the sky! I dont think that it is better than our beloved GNexus.
Thank you
I personally think it looks fantastic. But to each his own. I've always had Samsung phones including both Nexus' made by them. Although I wish Samsung had another run with it Lg isn't stopping me from buying the nexus 4.

I still love my galaxy nexus no need buy nexus 4.
I love it, I think the glass construction will make it feel much more premium and better in the hand than the GNex.
Thanks for the laugh. This is the one and only. LG Google Nexus⁴.
Take it or leave it. The "GNex+" is the Touchwiz NatureUX Samsung Galaxy Premier. It just simply has the gut of the GNexus smashed into a Touchwiz phone.
IMO the N⁴ is the most beautiful Nexus made so far. Finally a Premium feeling device. And iPhone 4S has a shiny apple logo smacked right on the middle of the back, still a best sellermad:Nexus should be). So yeah.

If I have helped you.... hit that sexy thanks button. ^_^
I believe no matter how popular it is LG is a bad phone manufacturer. Point blank. They get a phone slap their ui on it and call it flagship......noooo. HTC is the way to be. Literally they should have taken over after Samsung.

How can anyone say without touching one? The phone hasn't even been released yet. No regular users (or even reviewers) have had quality time with it.
As for the GNex+ or GN2, those phones don't exist and never will exist.
I know I'm probably speaking blasphemy here, but the only two attractive features of the Nexus 4 are the Snapdragon S4 Pro and 2GB of LPDDR2, and honestly, Android is so piss-poor at managing multi-core and RAM that those specs won't make it any faster than an iPhone 5 or any of the upcoming WP8 devices until, I'm gonna just guess here, but probably Android 5 or 5.1.
Hard truth.

Me, too.
I think putting a quad-core in is a stupid idea unless you severely underclock it. A good dual-core S4 like the HTC One S (which performs better than the quad-core One X in most situations due to the smaller resolution) would have been largely sufficient. Thumbs up for the memory upgrade, though.
I remain doubtful w.r.t. the IPS screen. I'm the first to admit that the Super AMOLED in our Galaxy Nexus has wonderful contrast, homogeneity and sharpness, but the gamut + default color profile suck and there is hella ghosting. I hope the new screen will be an improvement.
It's good that they managed to fit a 2100 mAh battery in there but if it comes at the expense of not being able to carry backup batteries, then I don't like it. I always have a spare battery when travelling and it would feel quite wrong for me to use a monolithic phone. Bleh.
Still no micro-SD slot though it was one of the many complaints about the Galaxy Nexus.
Europe is quite slow with true 4G deployment so why no 42Mbps DC-HSPA+?
What about the build quality of other LG phones? How are they?

Um u could just buy an external battery that charges it. Like how iphones do it. You charge the battery, and u connect it to the Port and it charges. So that is not an excuse why someone wouldn't want to upgrade.

This is a stupid regret full buyer of LG. I have a few words to say. Whatever they did to this, will be awesome. Why? Google shall support it in software and LG does the hardware...
Now Let me tell you this. LG promised my phone(Optimus Black) ICS at the third quarter of this year. Guess what? Sorry, we still don't have any updates of the ICS. UP TILL NOW. So, u really should buy it LG has everything good except user support. And now, Google collaborates with LG and that solves everything!

Android isn't the only culprit that can't manage multi-core, we've had single core for so long that getting proper dual-core optimisation will take at least another 2-3 years.
The jump from dual-core to quad-core was a much smaller leap than from single-core to dual-core.
The truth is that most apps don't scale well.

I think that Google picked lg. I wonder if Google has their own forum, where they make threads wondering if their customers are retarded? Come on, the phone isn't even out yet. Any complaint has been refuted a dozen times in any of these dozens of threads. Google birthed the magic box (gnex) everyone here loves so dearly, and now they made a new one. I apologize for my bluntness, but it's ****ing GOOGLE, and I'm gonna go ahead and presume that they known how the hell to oversee their flagship device's production. The phone is probly awesome. Buy it, don't, or make your own phone.

Hi All,
I am quite disappointed with how things turn out at Google I/O event regarding Google announcement of Galaxy S4 device.
First there is nothing wrong with Galaxy S4 but in my country there are no I9505 (Snapdragon variant) available. I 'assume' this to be the device that Google intend to support since it is available in the US. This kinda turn me off purchasing S4. Not sure how many people really care about this but for me it is a deal breaker and I am for one will not purchase S4 octacore device.
I was hoping to upgrade my Galaxy Nexus, not that it urgently needed upgrading, since it is still fast and very usable especially with my current Rom/Kernel setup (Purity 5.4.1 + AK latest nightly) but I was hoping for something with longer battery life. HTC One / Xperia z/ S4 all clocked it at around 3-4+ hours of heavy usage, that is only slightly better than my current GN.
How do you guys feel. Has Google made the right decision to partner with Samsung and not releasing a new device this year?

Nexus 5 is impossible, look at past trends.
And the s4 ge is not a nexus device, it's just AOSP supported..
Correct me if I'm wrong..
What is expected is a updated nexus 7, which did not come out as of today, there is still 2 days of I/o, who knows what will happen..
Beamed from my Maguro.
I don't think this year's Nexus is functionally the S4. I'm guessing that a real Nexus will come out this year. It's just that the S4 will also run AOSP, unlike what the S line has done in the past. Nexus phones usually come out later in the year. I was kind of expecting a 2nd generation Nexus 7, but oh well.
IO had updates to a lot of existing apps. Hangouts was a little lackluster, but the Books and Music apps got big updates, and it looks like the Maps app will get one soon. And there's the new IDE and the Games framework might be quite nice. So I'm actually not all that disappointed.

the only good things is the S4 with stock android
this the only stock android with expandable memory
hoping for the specs will be the same as the original s4
1080p,13mp octa or snapdragon 600/800 will be very very fast device
this device will probably run 2years or more
If they had a new device to announce they need a new version of android. And if there was a new one they would do it at the highlight keynote. Not during the workshops.

There's actually something bigger than a new Android version or device in this I/O.
They improve the rest except those I mentioned above.
I actually hoping for the next Android version.
And I'm still hoping they'll surprise us in the middle of another event. Hahaha. This is a silly hope, but who knows?

And those devices (Nexus 1) had practically very very small amount of usable space for apps anyway. I don't see this as a valid argument.

Ntm who's going to run out and buy a legacy device lol
I've been waiting for I/O to see what I want to do about my upgrade. I've been eligible for one since last August. Currently on Verizon so I was also hoping for a cdma nexus 5 or something. Not really into the S4. I mean it's nice, but the price tag is a little high for me personally. I get paid the day after tomorrow and I'm seriously considering picking up a Google nexus 4 on a straight talk plan. Then again if they do announce something new (maybe even later this year?) Like a new CDMA nexus I will be pretty upset I cancelled and lost my grandfathered unlimited data.
I love my gnex, but playing newer games or heavy multitasking, you kinda realize how old it is.... What do you guys think?
Why would anyone in their right mind expect a nexus 5 at I/o every nexus phone to date has been released in October, and it is still only 6 months since the nexus 4 was released.
I was, however, a little disappointed not to see a nexus 7 upgrade and android 4.3, but given all the leaks, it seams 4.3 simply got delayed and we'll probably see it at some point this summer.

Hang in there. There's still hope Motorola will come through with something unlocked, stock, and hot for all carriers. And no, I'm not talking about the XFON, that was revealed to have mid-grade specs. Perhaps it's big brother though, which is rumored to be launching for all carriers with similar specs to that of the newer super phones.
I'm in the same boat as you, have been sitting on my upgrade since December hoping for some news or acknowledgement of things for come for our CDMA network...

Saw some speculation on Android Central that Google may be moving in the direction of annual update cycles now that Android has achieved a degree of maturity and polish. I am a little dubious. Part of what has made Android great up to this point has been the fact that we don't have to wait a year for updates. Two or three updates annually keeps things fresh. I would speculate that it also helps to keep the development community involved since there is always a new challenge to be tackled, but not necessarily at the expense of all of the hard work that went into the previous iteration. Just my 2¢.

There is no arguments over here, just correcting misinformation. Unless you are trying to tell me Nexus One is not a nexus device, then fine.

It was a pretty blah I/O from our consumer standpoint. It looks decent from a Developer one.
I wanted to see a N5 and updated tablets also. The S4 at $650 does not interest me at all. My GN can still do everything I want it to well.

The s4 costs $848 here so consider yourself lucky you get it for $650, i don't think s4 will outsell iPhone 5 at that price, well at least not off contract, s4 looks just like my friends s3 an its already been said that its a measly upgrade from the s3 an not worth upgrading to s4 if you already own a s3, kind of like gnex to lg n4 , if your looking for something completely new i suggest waiting out for the next nexus an hoping it delivers

The S3 to S4 is a fairly large upgrade compared to the GNEX to N4. The S4 improved on virtually every aspect of the device and even shrunk the dimensions while increasing the screen size. They improved the screen, battery, camera, processor, GPU, ergonomics and added features. How is that a measly upgrade...?
I find it hard to understand that people want a complete overhaul of the devices looks in order for it be considered an "upgrade".
If they were to radically change up the overall look of the S5 people would make a million threads *****ing about the changes...
