I need a good video showing side-by-side comparison of the iPhone5 and SGSIII Benchmark test.
Thanks!
You probably couldn't swing a bag of dead cats without hitting a fanboy somewhere. Get one of them to put it next to your GS3 and a thrid phone to film it.

Its been proven that geekbench 2 score is false the real one put the s3 at like 1628 which was higher then the iphone 5
And even if the iphone 5 was faster i still can do 3x as much on my s3

I have and iPhone 5 with me got it yesterday... Unlike most people I like to test devices before judging, phone is great... Good upgrade from 4 not 4S(had both) feel amazing on the hand and weird the long screen really sucks for most apps the haven't been updated.. Typing takes me forever thanks to the small screen... Hardware wise this phones is great! Software even tho it got amazing games and apps it just needs a revamp! Apple should have take chances and make really differences to the OS but guess they wanted to keep it safe... It will sell good for sure... The one thing android needs is cloud backup it was really good to restore my cloud iPhone 4s backup, every app log in with all my stats and what not but at the end in staying with the gs3 as my daily driver. The one thing my gs3 needs is better stand by time for sure but I order extra battery for now

And benchmarks don't mean anything if that phone can't do what you wanted to do... Btw I used to be flasher and all but got tired of it. My gs3 is back to stock and running good not hiccups
From the verge review is exactly how I feel
" Maybe you'll call me an Android fanboy for saying this, or maybe it's because much of my business utilizes Google apps and its communication tools, but it didn't take me very long with the iPhone 5 to start thinking about getting back to the Galaxy Nexus and Jelly Bean (Android 4.1). For what I do, I think it's a more effective, more elegant, and more powerful OS right now. What it may lack in polish and consistency, it makes up for in power and flexibility."

I got my iPhone 5 on Friday & i love it.. I've had a Samsung intercept, Motorola triumph, S2 and a S3. I never could say i love them. I watch Android advance from 2.1 to 4.1 & it was fun flashing roms & tweaking them. I'm now a senior in high school taking college classes I just don't have the time anymore. When i got the iPhone it just worked with no bloatware & so many things bugging down the phone.

Dude, that is great for you. But I don't think anybody cares if you don't like Android anymore because you are too busy. Most people on these forums don't really care about build quality or specs of a phone. They like the openness of Android and like making there phone unique with customization. Many people here love to code, make apps and improve source code. Obviously they can't do that with an iPhone, much less get their app approved for the app store.
All you ever talk about is the iPhone and bash Android on a android developer forum. Just by the phones you said you had, I can say you've never experienced a pure Android experience such as the Nexus phones which also just works and has no bloatware. Why don't you go to an iPhone forum and talk about how polished and great your new iPhone is.
Fanboys from either side will never understand why others love the OS they choose. Personally iPhone is a great phone and they have great customer service. The phone is simple and just works like you said but I don't like the iPhone because I like choice. Android may not be the best or most consistent OS out there but I love the hardware features that come with Android phones such as NFC and more because we as a community here at xda-developers are able to make the experience better for ourselves and others that like openness.

Tough crowd. I personally didn't find his post insulting. However, I wouldn't ever post stuff on an Iphone forum about android. But again I'm not 20 years old. I think we need to be understanding of other peoples opinions regardless.
I will admit, I was one of the dickheads that bought and Iphone 1 on the first day and I loved them for a long time. I just didn't want to be a lemming any longer. And once I started flashing roms I am just hooked on messing with my phones. This is the main reason I don't buy HTC's any longer.
I did my own comparison using my s3 and iphone 5 the s3 smoked it browsing speed and all

I hate posting needless threads....and Hate reading them as well, but I have to get this off my chest. Since two months before the release of this phone the number of anticipation threads on EVERY forum I frequent was overwhelming...but I respect that. I love tech and love people who love it.
Since the actual release I have developed a huge amount of disgust for the people who obtain these phones and who help along the thought that a device like the iPhone is a superior device. I am completely blown away by the level of baseless expectation for a PHONE.
Android has always been a "techie" OS, the hardware was forever changing between manufacturers and the people who used them, understood that. I dont know if its due to the flooding of new users, that have not joined XDA to LEARN anything, or if people just dont realize what exactly they have in their hand, but the slamming that Androids own users give only enforces iPhone users beliefs that they have the superior device and help in the decision for new users to go elsewhere for a GOOD phone.
What phone were you using... three years ago? Even the fondest memories of your first android experience cannot compete with the devices we have to choose from now. Lag is a part of Android....we dont experience anything like the first round of android phones. Current devices have come leaps and bounds from where they were, lag now is split second compared to 10-15 we used to get. Once again though, that was something we didnt care about because of EVERY OTHER ADVANTAGE these devices offered. These are all things that set us apart from the users of Blackberries and iphones.
The lack of appreciation for the devices that have come so far puts us right with iPhone fanbois who started whining the second they had a antenna issue.....I am always up for a good debate on hardware...superior phones are great.....the continuous slamming of some of the worlds greatest technology on the other hand....is pathetic. You have never held in your hand two years ago tech that compares with what you have today. To me....this is what I love about Android, most of all its what I RESPECT about it. This is XDA DEVELOPERS....the Devs here put in their time to do things to these devices that cant be done on any other phones....in the end... for you. All I can read is a hundred posts warning Devs not to even get this phone....
Maybe I am way off....I dont know, Maybe what I thought about Android users having such a love for tech and a individualized experience is what made Android the no brainer choice. It has just really became painfully obvious to me that people can now tear up phones with 720p displays talking about image quality, dual core phones with unacceptable lag, and a expectation of performance that no other device they have owned, WAS BETTER than, You may think it was....but it wasn't. What you expect is something you may never see.
the Nexus has always been a Devs device, maybe some shame on Google for making this phone seem like the next iPhone...but its not an iPhone. If bugs and experimental tweaks are not for you...then you got the wrong device, Return it and get a different phone....its OK, nobody who loves this phone is going to be hurt. Android is not for everyone, having said that... it doesnt make Android not as good as the alternatives and the hardware is still stellar whether you agree or not.
To the Nexus....your alright in my book
I'm in love with this phone. Nuff said. My first Android phone was the G1 so I can appreciate good technology.

between my HTC Incredible S and my GN I had a iPhone 4s for 12 days
1st 3 days was nice, and then the shine vanished rapidly as I hit its limitations.
after 10 days I wanted to smash it
but on day 12 I managed to swap for GN I have now, much much better
I like having a phone OS that will go "ok, we'll do it your way then"
Not "this is the only way I can do this!"

Has anyone seen John Connor?
This is my Nexus. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Nexus is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my Nexus is useless. Without my Nexus, I am useless. I must use my Nexus true. I must use it better than my enemy(Iphone), who is trying to destroy me. I must destroy him before he destroys me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my Nexus and myself are defenders of everything good in this world, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of AOSP. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.
Most people post flaws not to complain but to make sure their new expensive toy isn't defective outside normal expectations. I think they look for comfort in knowing its normal and it isn't hurting anything. They need to hear, from the experts, our opinions on it. Will it get fixed or should they second guess things?
Some take it too far and cry outrage for attention (mountain out of an anthill).
The world takes all kinds. The Galaxy Nexus is pretty good though. Considering what problems other phones have to deal with.
-Galaxy Nexus
-Asus Transformer
Android is great. The Nexus is great. Being great means being popular. Being popular means dealing with whiners and morons. The iPhone is great in its way and has people that whine about it all day long.
I agree with what you're saying, but in the end it just doesn't bother me anymore. Let the whiners whine. That's what they do best
For better or worse, Android isn't a small, cult culture anymore. Probably for the better... you just have to deal with more idiots now.

Enough said. Great thread in my opinion. This device is great OTB and will grow with more software upgrades and Developers ROMs in the future.
I bought this phone expecting issues so far none except for the usual new os issues do you want the greatest and latest then expect minor issues as far as I am concerned vzw should not have released this phone without a warning this is not a droid device this phone is special and be prepared for issues. It is the best phone I have ever owned.

Btw development on this phone will be insane. The ns4g has pretty good development and it isn't even that popular.

OP. You expect too much from xda. Now that this phone is prime time on Verizon, the amount of nexus owners that know what xda is are a margin of error in the user base numbers. It will endlessly be compared to other off the shelf devices, and rightly so. That's just the way it is, and probably the way it should be. If google had to depend on xda and devs to sell this device they would have to hang it up.
I love the phone. And I also am willing to admit its faults, Android's faults, and wait for the inevitable improvements. Google looked second rate trying to launch this phone compared to an iPhone launch, that's an indisputable fact. I have this device because I don't want an iPhone. I have it because I believe in Android as a platform. I have it because it truly is fantastic device OUT OF THE BOX. I have zero plans to root, unlock the bootloader or flash ROMs.

i work with iphones day in day out..........and if you want a phone they great...........if you want something to enjoy............then you will be bored within days.
look at where the iphone started and where it is now.......pretty much the exact same product, a little more polished, a little quicker but in essence the same..........and the next generation i phone? same old same old with some little gimmick to promote sales.....in what is it 5 years? the iphone exploded on the scene but has then simply grown old....from one generation to the next they are grossly similar......pick any of the recent generation android phones put it in one hand then put the most recent iphone in the other..................
and then ask yourself.............why would anyone buy an iphone?
well if you want to be dictated to, if you want zero control over your phone if you want a 'bland' life then choose the iphone.
If you want entertainment, fun, expansion and freedom...........choose android.
would i take an iphone? yes if someone gave it to me
would i buy an iphone? never
oh and windows phones? i have worked with them.......well i have tried to work with them..........worst case was 100% charge to dead in 57 minutes would i take one of them for free? no chance

So people shouldn't complain about legitimate issues they are having with their expensive new phone so you can have an easier time arguing with iPhone fans in immature flame wars? What a stupid post. This site is not about you or people like you who want to brag and argue about whose phone is best.

1. iPhone fans generally don't come here.
2. The only flaming in this thread so far has come from you.
3. The OP was never directed at people who have legitimate problems with their phones and post here looking for help. It was always about those who have already posted numerous threads whining about things nobody can do anything about, such as "I HATE the Pentile display!" (take it back and get a Rezound then instead of posting whinefest threads that clutter this forum and help no one).
4. The OP was also not trying to instigate a flame war over which phone is best. There's nothing wrong with posting one's personal preference here. The problem comes when someone makes a personal attack, like, say, "What a stupid post. This site is not about you or people like you..."

seriously... a forum... for phones?...
lol...
The phone is fine. There are some issues, but they all have issues at first. Calm, rational trouble shooting easily fixes issues that are software related. Some have hardware issues etc. Nothing too damning, squeaky wheel.
What i DO see on the net is stupid people that got the phone expecting it to make their vapid life more fulfilling, only to realize it is just a phone. The phone is not borked, the dog**** applications you jammed it full with are. Take a breath a realize this is a new OS release, so your old system utilities may not function properly, and may in fact make your device function poorly.
Go back to teh iphonez.

Google doesn't bow down. Android is open...simple answer, I know.
They are free to do whatever the hell they want. The only time Google is even allowed to have a say is when it comes to Google Apps. Sure, they could tighten restrictions on what it takes to be qualified to get Google Apps, but, that's starting to looked like a less open and more closed garden...if you will.
Google isn't Jesus, by any stretch...but, in the modern IT/OS/API/Platform/etc/etc/etc world they are by far the most open and agreeable of all the big players. This is one of the unfortunate side effects....or fortunate depending on how you look at it. They allow a manufacturer/reseller to make the OS "their own", encouraging them to release Android devices. That's good....however they also allow a manufacturer/reseller to make the OS "their own", encouraging "fragmentation" and update issues.
I prefer it to the alternative. An authoritarian leadership model that dictates what can and can't be.
...and remember, these manufacturers/resellers are TOTALLY FREE to put out whatever the hell they--or YOU--want.....but if it doesn't meet Google's very livable requirements it doesn't qualify for Google Apps.

Very true we are spoiled because of this and other forums bring us together but the hacking community is very small we are the 1% I have talked 10 of my friends to trade in their iPhones for android devices and now I handle everything for their phones. 3 have started to pick up on things but the others are lost and just suggest colors for things I get to it when I can and try to keep them up to date lol but yea point made I hope.

No because Google borked Ics since launch. Could of had more devices and advertising pure Google. They had plenty of great ads in YouTube never saw them on TV. Then letting Verizon having it exclusive was a real good move.
Can you think of any other software that comes out and doesn't get used for months or even a year. What is really the point of the update if nobody gets it. If you think Google handled this well something is wrong with you.

if all the android device makers would just use what Google gives them, ICS would be everywhere. But they all need to add their own overlays like Sense, touchwiz, etc. That's what causes the delays, most times. look at all the Chinese tablets out since January with vanilla ICS, other manufacturers could do the same.
Not to mention crap like trying to code for the 3D camera on the EVO3D. That is apparently a ***** to do.

Why would it make you sad?
ICS isn't a living being that should be mourned when forgotten.
Jelly Bean is going to be better than ICS, otherwise why would you call it an upgrade?
Tech moves fast. The manufacturers take their time and put their overlays on their devices to give them a different feel so when someone purchases one, they don't feel like they have the same device as everyone else.

Google doesn't 'bow down' to manufacturers. Android doesn't belong to google, it belongs to the open handset alliance. It's merely backed by google since they are a leading member of the open handset alliance.
They don't bow down to them, if they did; why would there be requirements for a device to be able to be pre installed with Google's apps?
Do they need them? Well, Without manufacturers, you can't make a device.
I like android because of the choice I have in devices, Not like Apple where you get two deviecs.
iPhone or iPad?
I'd rather it be like this than like iOS is.
I'm not an expert on this but I have heard the main complication with getting ICS to the masses has been the massive changes between the GB standard and ICS. For phones they skipped an entire version of code enhancements that were not made available to them; drivers and other pieces of the standard kernel were modified but only tested on the Nexus devices.
So the manufacturer has to take the new kernel, add their modifications back in, make sure they play nice (which doesn't happen even in the desktop world - Windows anyone?) and then start plugging away at each issue until they get to a stable build. Rinse and repeat when it gets to the carrier. You're talking a LOT of hours to get that far and it doesn't come cheap - we haven't even talked about the cost of test devices.
So considering it took roughly 6 months to get a stable build to end users on a non-Nexus device - folks, from my POV we're honestly spoiled.

Spot on!
I have at least a dozen friends on android phones, and I doubt one of them could tell you what version their phone is running.
Heck, even in my IT/Telecom shop, I doubt more than one or two people could tell what version of Android they are on.
Outside of the modding community, most people not only simply don't know, when brought to their attention, they just don't care.
THEM: Does my Facebook work? Can I send pics and texts. Can I play Draw Something and Angry Birds.
Me: Yes.
Them:Then what does this version you keep asking me about matter...
<rolls eyes>
I think, because we are in the hacking / development world, we look at the next best thing from source as an upgrade. We are aware of what is about to come out from source, etc, but to the rest of the population, they arent keeping tabs on Google, or even the carrier probably. We know ICS is there, so that is the upgrade to us. The rest of the people see an "Upgrade available" on their phone, so that is their upgrade. We get our upgrade when google releases it, they get theirs when the carrier releases it.
My coworker is very loyal to Android but she was not aware of the naming system. She was even more excited because she likes all the desserts they've used.
Curious to see what you all think!

hp will put out webos in september and wash their hands of it.
Realistically, the next version will most likely have some desktop mode when plugged into a dock. This is why they bought moto and makes a lot of sense for a few reasons:
1. Lets android compete on a different level than ios or windows phone, allowing it to be your computer and your phone.
2. The hardware is ready there to do this, so it makes sense for them to make the leap now.
3. Instead of competing with toy OS's like ios, wp7, and webos, they would be playing with the big boys (aka, windows). Once your operating system is capable of real productivity, you can sell to the business market, which is huge and has had no competition. since the birth of windows 95.
4. This would require a new peripheral, which would boost sales and further lock people into Google's services.
After paying billions for moto and sitting on them, I can't see any other logical path for them to take.
On a side note, noticed most current phones have a barometer. Any ideas on how this might be used in the future?

It's a novel idea but I doubt they're up to this level yet. If anything I see it coming in later releases. Why do this when they can expand their whole hardware portfolio of selling chromebooks, tablets, etc.? I think that's more important than trying to turn their Android phones into desktop computers.
After paying billions for moto and sitting on them, I can't see any other logical path for them to take.

Take the large number of valuable patents and sell the failing Motorola hardware business that loses money every quarter.
I want Google to integrate Motorola's hardware business and make awesome "All Google" Nexus devices as much as any other Android fan, but I don't see them doing this, especially not in the short term. They'd be competing directly with the manufacturers they currently license Android to, which isn't a very good business model.

It seems natural to do that. But I don't know of Google would ever let that happen. Same reason why Apple wouldn't let that happen with iOS. I just feel Google has big plans for Android and for it to just be much more than a mobile OS. And plus with every Google service being so tightly integrated into Android it would be too hard for it to fail at this point. Time will tell! But I'm excited like you. And optimistic.

I used to think the same about google as a search engine, although they've proved me (and everyone) wrong by completely dominating the search engine market since the internet was very young. Google's motivated and has a lot of sway, and unlike most corporations, people really seem to LIKE google! I think if anyone can break the cycle of companies rising and falling, it's them
Android will be around for the time being.
The history is repeating. This is similar how did IBM-compatible PC beat Apple computer by adapting open standard versus propitiatory. Since PC accepts open hardware standard, it has further advantage than Mac.
Android (and Windows Phone 7.x) also accepts open hardware specifications, and the result is we have much wider choice of hardware instead of ONE.
An open os will sell itself. I can not wait to triple boot my pc with android. I would love having the exact same experience from my phone to my pc. And if anyone has the money and time to do it, it is Google.

I love the way I have to use iTunes to move music/videos etc to my phone. And better yet, the range of expensive products you can buy with a special lightning connector (with a name like that it must be fast!) is way better than micro USB.

I know what you mean! It has five rows, that is a game changer. The screen is just big enough now for Apple to display all my favorite ads while i browse through my apps and play games. And the maps are so much better now that they got rid of Google. And since Apple also removed the YouTube app and is doing their best to block all forms of YouTube over DLNA, I don't have to worry about watching YouTube videos on the tv. Because why would I want to watch cat videos on a big screen when I've got four inches of the new mother f*cking iPhone in my hand!
I'm not moving on from the Gnex anytime soon. The LGnex is meh imo.
I thought the best feature of iPhone 5 was the capability to set your own mp3's as personal alarms and ringtones. Welcome to 200late apple.

Also, how is Android a legacy OS? Are you the same person that thought it was legacy because of Java and wanting to move to BB10 because of that? Dalvik VM has little relation with the J2ME used by "legacy" phones (feature/dumb phones).

its interesting to see how attractive the GN2 is once all the people who down it change once the have it in their hands.
OP root it while she sleeps.
My girl has iphone4 and says she has no special loyalty to Apple so I had her play with my note 2 a bit. The size is way too big for her hands, comical really, but that's no problem there are other great phones.
You know what it came down to? Bejeweled Blitz.
She plays that game constantly and there is no equivalent in the android market.
There are several bejeweled clones and one real bejeweled2 from EA, but it turns out they all suck.
The apple version is perfectly responsive. Every time you touch anything it reacts immediately no matter what else is going on elsewhere on the screen at the same time. But on my phone it won't even register trying to swipe new jewels until the explosion animations from the last move are all done playong out. This is on a note2 that's even somewhat debloated because I deleted all the services and junk for weather, stocks, social integration, allshare, sysscope, smart device manager and touchwiz. There can't possibly be a cpu issue. And this was the real game from EA/PopCap not the small indipendents.
I never play any games so I would never have noticed this. But just watching her try to play a simple game on the supposedly highest end badest badassest uber phone was pretty embarassing.
She actually said it's not necessarily a deal breaker but I believe in quality of life. If that's what she likes and Android can't provide it then that's all there is to it. Guess she gets an iphone 5 even though she lives with an Apple hating unix sys admin.
I actually blame Apple more than Android or the game developers. Apple forces developers to choose only one platform to invest their limited resources by blocking use of cross platform tools, and few developers can really afford to support multiple platforms the hard way without cross platform tools.

There's nothing wrong with Apple products. They cost more and it's a closed box but it if you download something from the App Store, it works. No force close, no lag, nothing to complain about. The tablet apps are actually designed for tablets and for the most part they get updated with every iteration of iOS.
I love my Note and the Galaxy S2, Thunderbolt and Fascinate that came before it but I've never once got pissed off at an iPhone because the lock screen wouldn't come on without lag or the gallery froze the phone. The gallery in MA7 makes me want to punch a baby in the face.

Actually apps on her phone crash all the time. Depends on the app. We both use a unique app called guidebook. The android version works fine for me on both my ltevo with gb and the note2 with jb, but it crashes constantly on her ip4.
And half of her apps are old because they now require ios5 or later. She's on ios4 so she can't update any of those any more. And she doesn't want to update ios because she has good google maps right now.
The closed nature and vendor lock in and nanny app blocking ultimately causes more problems than it solves. It's ultimately a self-defeating dead end. It's only good for one thing, making a few people money right now. It's bad for both users and developers.

Lol apple has force closes they just dont tell their sheep cuz the assume they are dumb enough if a dialog doesn't show they'll just assume they caused the app to disappear . Theres nothing about apple at all appealing. They steal peoples opensource work close it up rush to grab a baseless patent and then sue the original creators into submission, its pathetic and their business practices are akin to that of organized crime, disgusting really.

Apple v. Android discussions are getting tired. To consider Apple as pure garbage is foolish, and to completely write off Android is just as foolish. Both have their followers for different reasons- who cares?

Apples issues have nothing to do with android. Apples issues lie solely on apples shoulders with their crooked business practices. Giving apple your money is no different than giving it to the mob.

Yep that's a solid argument.
Please tell me more about how you only support companies with pure business practices. Or perhaps how you speak out about all crooked business practices, and not only Apple.
I would imagine a thorough review of Google and their business practices may enlighten you- but that wouldn't be fun, would it?

It's impossible to avoid patronizing companies run by bad people that do bad things.
It's not imossible to try. It only requires you care.

Then quit being hypocritical- acting like using Android makes you a saint vs. Apple is a joke, plain and simple.
The fact of the matter is current patent law in America is disgusting. Can you blame Apple for exploiting what is terrible law? Absolutely not. Same argument a majority of the people are making against the rich and the current tax code.
Fact of the matter is a majority, if not all, people here are making an argument based solely on emotion. To state it in terms more complex than "Android v. Apple" is, at best, false.
Give it a rest.

Well most companies don't buy themselves frivolous patents and then use them to sue their competitors into submission. They usually work harder and pay people who have the skills to put them ahead instead of trying to cheat their way to the top. there's a difference between companies cutting costs by outsourcing work and companies cutting costs by stealing the work.
