How do you know if you are getting HSPA+ on your g2?
Download speedtest.net. after you run the test go to results and click on one of them. Scroll down to network and if you are on 3g or 2g it will say cell. If you are connected to hspa+ it will display utms. Also you can generally tell by the speeds you get from running the test.

Download netswidget. It will tell u edge, umts (3g) or hspa+ (4g)

Speedtest.net is the #1 network test on the market, as approved by cnet, phonedog, mobileburn etc... so don't go with any others or else you risk corrupted results

Netswidget from market should display HSDPS When connected to "4G"

Make sure you choose a close server too, don't choose one that's 500 miles away.
I got Mobile Signal Widget from Android Marker. It's really nice. Will show a H, 3G, E, G, etc depending on what you're connected to.
Same here really good tool. It's helping me in seeing what freaky stuff my phone is doing with data and signal strength. I think I'm in a poor spot and I'm going to try to spend some time in another spot where the coverage is known better and see if I get the same issues.
Settings/about phone/status/mobile network type
It tells you if your connected to gprs, umts, or hspa.

Everyone knows they're absolute crap, you dirty spammer.
man I haven't had the joy of using hspa+ yet
pierrekid is right. however, he shoulda thrown in that it was also sideways endorsed by cyanogen (i think, it was a long time ago when he suggested only using speedtest cause other apps dont show real results)

Every Single one of mine says cell... I'm in Salt Lake City Utah, which it says is one of the finished cities. WTF, do I call T-Mobile?
Lol first off krashunist, you also are making yourself look like an idiot. It obvious I'm not spamming. Second I would try and drive around a bit to differnt locations in your area just to confirm that it not your phones that's faulty but the actual network. If you see that your connecting to 4g is different areas just gotta wait till they refine and improve the network to work in your specific area. Believe I'm going through the same exact thing here in miami.

No i definitely haven't I have been in all the same areas that I used to get it on my S2 and still haven't seen it, I dont think the GN has a symbol for it :/
stock android doesnt support custom connection icon's(letters).
GSM Nexus displays a "H" when connected to HSDPA.

Why's this? Surely it shows G, 3G and H then why not H+?

GSM HSPA+ displays "H" always
i'm sure cm9 will add support to show H+ should you indeed be in a HSPA+ capable area.
silly, google, they didn't show the HSPA icon on the nexus one and now they ignore the HSPA+ icon
to bad that HSPA+ isn't available at my place yet
I'm confused by you guys' posts. The G.Nex does tell you when its on 4(faux)G by displaying and H instead of simply "3G".
I hope the complain in this thread isn't because theres no "+" after the H.
note, there's HSPA and HSPA+. hence my post.
I live in the Dallas area and I have yet to see anything other than H on my Nexus and this is definitely a Tmobile FauxG area.

No, H is a very good internet speed here in the UK, but H+ is when you're in a better 3G area
With the S2 I got the H symbol at home and the H+ symbol at college, internet was much improved plus its nice to see it

Yeah I think the final answer is that AOSP doesn't have the + version of the H icon. Maybe we'll see it in the future

I am on tmobile and this is how the icons are:
2G: E
3G: 3G
"4G": H
So i was walking along the road and then when i looked at my phone i saw a H above my signal bar and i screenshotted it. It switched between H and E, then 3g also appeared, but i couldnt get a shot of it because it disappeared quickly.
so now im wondering is 3g/hsdpa possible on a lg nitro using a tmobile sim because when i look around the forums people said only edge is available.
It's possible that you were roaming onto the AT&T network due to getting no T-Mobile signal for a brief period of time. The phone won't be able to get 3G on T-Mobile's network though.
It works!

Sorry forgot to update ya'll
I flashed back to stock ICS but now have whatever baseband you get by following the unbricking procedure and now I get Tmobile HSPA+ "4G".

That has to be why. The Nitro definitely doesnt support AWS bands for 3G/4G.
Just wanted to issue in case anyone wanted to save some money. I live in Kansas city and just started Wal-Mart family mobile service and I am getting 3g and hspa signal on my unlocked att p930. That being said, it does look like the data speed itself is throttled to 1mb/s up and down. I'm wondering if it's possible to change that by messing with the apn...

You definitley were in an area with 1900 band being utilized. It's been rolling out around Annapolis MD and Alexandria VA areas. Love it!
10mbps down.,
here is the map
http://www.airportal.de/
Yes it appears that it's deployed throughout Kansas city and even about an 80 mile plus radius of the city. My device picks it up but family mobile have the speeds throttled down to .9mbps up/down no matter what. Very frustrating seeing the H symbol and not being able to break 1mbps anyone have any ideas?

Leave the proxy blank. For some reason the proxy.mvmo.tracphone.com limits data to 1MB.

OK I thought it was worth a shot. It was a problem with straight talk and thought it might also work thinking it might be a Nitro issue.

h+ stands for HSPA+, or "3,5G". It is an evolved version of 3G, offering higher speeds. But not close to 4G, of course. See wikipedia for more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM
Unless you got a carrier-locked CDMA model from the US, AFAIK, you have a international GSM device, only capable of connecting to GSM/UMTS networks, and using any of their data protocols (EDGE, 3G, HSxPA). Any ROM that tells you that you're on 4G, they're lying to you, purely an appearance tweak.

Wondering if all note 2 t889 devices will see LTE service once it drops in ones specific coverage area ,my phone has the fast.t-mobile.com apn configured, My question is will the icon show LTE once it is in my area or does the 4g icon just symbolize that your merely still on hspa+
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
As long as you have lte network mode turned on and on fast.tmobile.com, it will automatically detect lte and show 4G with lte letters underneath.

So I have the option, but no LTE letters in my system bar. Just means I don't have LTE in my area yet, correct?
