Mines is just connecting to the 2.4ghz channel on my Linksys E4200, but it seems online specs say the One X does support 5ghz?
Thanks
I can confirm reading it does support the 5ghz band, I haven't tried. One X is one of the few phones that is supposed to support it.
It worked when I tried it

5GHz works for me though it gets better signal from 2.4GHz. Both signals are coming from the same router.

i'd probably agree, more specifically, i couldn't notice any difference in range or performance.
the only thing different would probably be that the wifi would continue working when the microwave is on and phone is next to microwave

Hi,
Instead of adding a new thread I though I just add a bit more info.
Confirmed it has 20Mhz only single Antenna, Max 72Mbits/s link speed on both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz.
Tested with Asus RT-N66U, both bands set to 40Mhz.
Cheers

Hi,
Just wondering what the best wireless connection people have made with the HOX.
With my current router i just get 65mbps, but only when i am right next to the router.
I was thinking of getting a wireless router one of those 450Mbps 2.4/5.0Ghz.
Does the Hox even support the 5.0Ghz band?
thanks
No it doesnt accept the 5ghz frequency unfortunately.

The HTX One X does have a dual band radio, so yes it can use either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz. As for max speeds on most mobile devices these won't be great because of a few reasons like single antenna and power saving.
Having said that in the advanced wireless settings you can enable a setting for better wireless performance but it does warn that this will suck much more battery life. I haven't played with this myself but it may be worth trying to see what it does for you.
Good luck.
I ran WiFi Analyzer and it shows all the traffic on both and which channels are empty. The 5GHz band is a N-150

best way to test for sure would be to put the modem in 5ghz only mode. sucks that if its there you cant configure it in your settings. but then again i'm on a custom rom. So it may be there on stock.

5ghz range on the Note 2 is pretty good depends on your router. my 5ghz is the same in my 2 story house is as my 2.4ghz with my ASUS rt-56u
now my linksys 5ghz router sucks
The real advantage of 5Ghz higher throughput (less noise, depending on where you live) which makes its only advantage is streaming media, file sharing, etc.. 2.4Ghz covers a larger area, and doesn't have near the amount of "dead zones" as 5Gz.
I use both, but when I'm on the other side of my house, the 5Ghz signal is generally -10 to -15dB worse then my 2.4Ghz signal.

It typically appears that way because of the amount of noise on 2.4Ghz. Where I live, in a subdivision, there is absolutely no clean channels. The airways are so clogged because routers can only operate between 11 (I think?) channels. To defend my theory I brought home a spectrum analyzer and was amazed. Every house in this survey is operating a router.
Dual band routers aren't as common, as well as less distance so the noise levels are typically great on 5Ghz. As I said earlier, the only advantage of 5Ghz is if you plan on streaming HD movies (lets say from a media centre to Boxee Box/Apple TV/Roku), or transferring files. 2.4Ghz will do just fine for everything else considering typical internet packages are less then 100Mb always.

HA well there was so much 2.4Ghz noise in my area that I decided to install one of my outdoor radios in my house. They can be configured in such a way that WiFi devices can associate with it.
Needless to say, my wireless range is now 2 Km from my house lol. I'll probably die one day from cancer because of too much RF energy, but so far so good. Wife and I just had baby number 4 so it hasn't done a whole lot yet haha!!

Nope. That's impossible. The radio in the Note is designed to associate to only one access point at a time. Whether it be 2.4 or 5.
It would also be useless. Having a phone locked onto to two ssid's would mean splitting the packets to two locations. Overcomplicated uses ordeal.

I am trying to use a new app (XStream) that supports streaming of Windows 7 Media Center files (.wtv). So far this is the first software I found that supports that (Samsung USA support had no idea). I can record 4 HD cable TV channels (FIOS) at once on my PC. A one hour recording in HD is 5-8GB in size. I figured I needed as much bandwidth as possible to stream that size file.

Well it doesnt matter what you got you got even if you could connect to both at the same time it could not combine them. Wireless N should be able to handle that just fine.

Multiple connections to the same source does not equal a faster connection. In fact, the overhead and packet loss of two wireless connections would probably deteriorate the connection and, it would probably be slower than a single link.

I am getting low speeds when using wifi on GS3 compared to my computer and brothers nexus 4. In my room which is the room next to the living room with the router I get about 16-20 mbps on 2.4 ghz and about 8-10 on 5ghz. My brother was getting about 40mbps on his nexus and my computer about 46 mbps.
What can I do to fix?

You could try on the ROM to set for one frequency band only instead of Auto. For example, 2.4 and not 5ghz. Also, your Router's admin page could give preference to a particular device with QoS settings.
Maybe reboot the router and cable modem/dsl to see if that might help.
It's a possibility you could try to change the wifi channel you are connecting on as well. It may be set as auto but may get interference. I would only caution, the laptops seems to have higher powered antennas and our phones usually aren't terribly high power so they may have the possibility of being susceptible to more interference whereas the laptop is not.
Get inSSIDer from the play store. It will help you find the best wifi channel.

I turned QoS off, speeds on every other device are great except for the phone itself. Like I said my bro standing next to me and my laptop in my room got around 40mbps (nexus 4) and my laptop got around 46-48 mbps while my S3 was only able to pull near 20mbps. I've tried limiting my frequency scans to 2.4ghz or 5ghz only and have not noticed any differences. Actually 5ghz seems to be slower which is weird since my bro and my phone are the only ones able to connect to that band. You guys think changing wifi drivers would make a difference in my phone? I know different kernels have different wifi drivers built in.

So far I think it's OK. I used to have Note 3 and the Wi-Fi calling was bad.
What do you think?
So far I think it's fantastic. Just to put that in perspective though, I'm coming from AT&T, which means two cans and a string might have been an improvement.
Works perfect
My wi-fi calling sucks. It's laggy. People on the other side of the phone seem to hear 1 out of 4 words. My network speeds generally seem fine, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm going to try on another wireless network other than my home the first chance I get.

Theres your answer to one.
Try turning your firewall on your router off. What could be happening is one of the listening ports for the wifi calling is being blocked so call clairty is being degraded. Also if you are running on 5k rather than the lower band for your cells wifi switch back. You need a slower but more reliable stream.
Most of the issues are because of nat
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_address_translation
but can be solved if your router has a sip alg function. Check this forum from tmo it has some of the ports you need to make sure u have open if you dont turn off the firewall on your router

Gonna disagree with this a little, as 2.4 Ghz tends to be more congested and more interference-prone. Use 5 GHz WiFi if you can.
I'vs used WiFi calling on both WiFi frequencies with no issue, but I have a $250 pro-level access point that I use.

That can be true the only issue with 5 k is its signal penetration. if you have to go between walls 5k will lose alot of quality.
I use 5ghz all the time. Definitely not the issue. It could be a router firmware issue.
To the op This issue probably won't get resolved if you are using phone at work . everyone else is on WiFi also. Unless u work in office with 3 employees. Do a video screen record with phone on speaker while ur at work so we can see what is going on and we can help if we can.
This is my first wifi calling enabled phone, but so far, it has been great on Wifi calling. I've been using it since I arrived in London Saturday on a crappy hotel wifi connection with perfect results. Before that I used it in a grocery store and my basement back in the states where I never have cell reception...also great results.
Now that I seem to have international data roaming sorted, I'm feeling much better about my choice of phones.

I think you need to do some reading about how to setup your specific model or read reviews about your specific model. Just because it's provided to you does not mean it is a good product.
Sharing my settings will do nothing for you, even if we have the same model because WiFi signals can be affected by your home layout and your neighbors WiFi if they're close to your home.
