rooted phone and firmware update - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi, with the help of this forum I was able to root my gio so that went fine now comes the question. II hooked the phone up to the pc and samsung kies said there is a firmware update so I clicked it and I got a disclaimer that when you're phone is rooted that upgrade to latest and greatest firmware this might fail because of the root.
What should I do now, do I have to unroot it before I put the new firmware on, or can I just proceed with firmware upgrade with the phone being rooted.
Thanks in advance.
Jan

Samsung kies wont notice you with that message.

I'm unable to upload a pic since I need to have 10 posts before i can use an external link, I tried just a few minutes ago and the same disclaimer keeps popping up.

Help with new firmware updates

Hi guys,
New to this forum and i need some expertise from you guys. Tried looking all over online for an answer but cant seem to find one. Here is my issue, my phone is a T999v phone from wind but my carrier is mobilicity. I got the OTA push for the new firmware a week ago or so, i am able to download it but when it reboots to do the install the file goes corrupt and wont install and tells me to try through kies. The other issue i am having as of right now is that i am not able to connect to kies via usb which will do the firmware upgrade. Want the latest updates but it is seriously giving me a major headache. Any help is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Did you try installing the drivers for the sgs3 from Samsung's site (for your computer), reboot your computer then try going thru kies?

Kies never works for me, either. It's garbage anyhow, and there is no reason to install it.
Are you rooted? Do you have CWM or TWRP? Are you downloading the OTA over wifi?

No im not rooted...but CWM does pop up after my phone reboots to try to install, that is when i get the error message. tried doing OTA through wifi and carrier but doesnt work either way.
An ota from Mobilicity will fail on a Wind phone. You could possibly get around this by using mobile odin or maybe cwm. But i really dont know if its a good idea to try. The fw from each carrier would have to be very similar and i dont know what the differences really are.
If you do want to update via kies download the latest from samsung.com/kies but uninstall any previous versions an drivers first. Installing kies will also install drivers.
Alternatively you could download the full VLALH2 fw from sammobile.com/firmware and flash through odin or mobile odin.

Actually, you can use mobile odin as well. Cwm too im told, but i havent tried.
Ops problem im pretty sure is hes trying to apply a mobilicity ota to a wind phone.
But you are correct as to how it was intended to be used.

Downgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1 and kies shows no update?

I updated to 4.1.2 through kies. The battery was terrible so I rooted it and flashed back to 4.1.1 through mobile odin. Now when I plug it into kies it doesn't tell me I have an update available. Anybody know why?
I wonder why you would downgrade and then want to upgrade again...
Anyway, did you check if your csc is correct?

Well the MA6 update has been rolling out and I'd like to be able to get it officially through kies. I believe the csc matches. I never changed any settings and in kies it says LJ1 (TTT) which is what it was before.
Also 200th post!

Can you update firmware and stay rooted

Hi all,
I have rooted my n2.
My question is with the new update coming to 4.2, is it possible to update my firmware even though I am rooted as when I click check for updates on the phone it says I cant as I am rooted.
Will I have to un root and then upgraded (when it finaly arrives) then root again?

Don't complicate things Just download lates ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and flash with Odin. Then root again, it is a 3 minute process.... you won't loose any settings, data or apps.
U can update using mobile Odin when the new 4.2 firmware when its available via samMobile. It will keep the root. I hv been using it to update the last few times.

Hi all, i am total noob in android phones and the note 2 (was an ardent BB fan over many years).
Quick question if you guys don't mind.
I have Mobile Odin and I have rooted me phone; what I'm absolutely unsure of is, the new 4.2 firmware when it's available, where do I head to to download it? Do i save it as a zip file in the ext SD card and install it via Mobile Odin from there? If not, please advise the how-to please.
Many thanks for helping out this total noob.
Thanks

The thread is right there at the beginning with a sticky. Dr.Ketan thread
is the new update flashable with TWRP? Or just with odin? Whats with root? do i have to unroot the n2 -> flash -> root again?

If you flash with mobile Odin, there is option to keep the root. If you flash with Odin, you must root again, which is a 3 minute process, so IMHO is not a big deal. I dunno about TWRP since I don't have custom recovery, I don't want my counter raising

Many thanks for the advice mate! Cheers
Isn't there an option in Mobile Odin (paid version) to do exactly this ?
I guess SuperSU pro has OTA survival mode, that protects root access if you use the official Samsung OTA update. Full ROM flashes via PC Odin will not preserve root, Mobile ODIN will preserve root if you select the option.
I thought that samsung disables ota updates for rooted or "Modified" systems?

Airplane Mode

Hello everyone, this is my first post here
I have a frustrating problem. Yesterday i update my Galaxy Ace 2 from 2.3.6 to Unofficial Cyanogenmod 10, everything was good.
But on first up i get A LOT of "radio has been granted superuser permissions" and i saw that i dont have any GSM signal.
Anyone knows what i do wrong?
PS. I also have a problem with Airplane mode, i just cant turn it off.. everytime i try its getting ON by itself.. ofcourse because of that i cant do any SMS and Calls (and maybe this is why i dont have any signal).
Please, help me.
Sorry for my english
Have you installed stock samsung JB before installing CM10? You have to do it before installing CM10/10.1.

No, i install CM10 on stock 2.3.6. So i have to flash samsung JB first?
Yeah, you basically flashed a whole new android version that was completely different to 2.3.6, get Odin, flash the latest 4.1.2 stock firmware, root it, then get CyanogenMod again

Okey, i will do this.
Can i use Heimdall (linux) instead of Odin?

The different Android version isn't the problem. On my old Xperia X8 we had officially only Eclair and all the custom ROMs (CM6, CM7, CM9, CM10) worked without problems. The problem here is that Samsung most probably changed some stuff in modem in the JB update (and hence the RIL doesn't work when you install CM10/10.1 on top of GB).
@derester: Yes, if you know how to use it.
Thank you guys!
It worked .
It was loong road to get it work, but im happy now

Ya, but when the phone restart and then installing the new firmware it fail or unsuccessful only can 27%. Then the phone reboot, and after rebooting it says fail and try to install by kies.

if you dont understand best to search google for how to flash firmware via odin
in order to change firmwares on a samsung phone you use a tool called odin to flash the firmware onto your phone - that is the only way to change your firmware in this samsung phone if software update/kies update does not work
