Reboot option on stock ROM from sony - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway I can add a option or widget which actually shut down my arc S and then reboot automatically. I had this option when I used a
custom ROM. Now I'm back on stock ROM and I miss that feature.
In the market I found Fast reboot . Is this app effective / safe ?
Quick reboot app seems to do restart the phone so suddenly like removing the battery !! which makes me kinda paranoid

Only if you're rooted... There are themes available which have reboot option.
Not sure about apps in the play store never used them

Hi mate,
Here's a reboot widget that was altered to make look like an xperia widget. I've used it before, it works perfectly. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736799
Another option for you is if you want to install the xperia s lockscreen : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748622
Just make sure that you actually flash the reboot .zip. It also adds a 30 step volume choice. (I couldn't live without it now )

Hey "I was" a noob too with Android! I just got my first android phone January and I really didn't know what to do with it!
Well, where to start, it's easy.
Just go to settings and all the apps, and explore all the options and features of the Defy!
Like that you will know your phone very well.
Then you would like to download apps and widgets and live wallpapers!
You will test them and with time you will know what are the good/pros and bad/cons applications.
There is the stock launcher, but it can be replaced by another launcher that you can download from market! (ex: Go launcher EX, LauncherPro, etc)
You will notice that The homescreens and app drawer will be completely different, and it's 100% safe.
If you wish to root the devices and install new ROMS, just wait.
Yes. Wait for about 3 months to know well the world of Android before trying dangerous things that could brick your phone.
If you just got the Defy, do the basic things like play movies/musics, take photos, install new apps, etc.
Hope it helped you!!
If you have other questions, I'll help you
OK, since I wish that someone took the time to reply to me when I first got my defy and posted a similar question here, I will throw in some suggestions to you.
First, make sure that your PC has the latest Motorola drivers installed.
Second, learn how to Root your phone --> probably with Super1click
[you did not tell us which firmware you have so it's hard to point you in a specific direction here]
.
Then once that's done:
Instead of using the default "Files" --> use Astro file manager;
Instead of using the stock browser --> use Dolphin HD;
Protect your phone with AVG free (antivirus) and DroidWall (firewall);
Use Titanium Backup to make copy of your apks and settings and to "freeze" the bloatware on your phone;
Use SetVSel (needs Milestone overclock to run) to lower the cpu voltages and under/overclock your cpu and save battery*;
*: just did that myself and after > 10 hours since unplugged, my phone is still showing battery at 100% !!! [set to: 22/300 - 34/600 - 46 Vsel/900 MHz]
Learn to install/use ClockWorkmod (CWM) recovery and RSD Lite for Nandroids/ROMs flashing.
That should keep you busy for a while but it's nothing too hard and I'd say that all this is the very minimum that every Defy user should know and do to get the max out of their phone.
And if I may add:
1- forget about animated wallpapers: they just waste battery power
and
2- before playing with themes, lauchers and custom ROMs [which -like everything- are NEVER "100% safe"...even if it is for human error..] you should master all the items on my list first...
Good luck! I hope this helps.

[Q] SE R800I Root what happens now ?

Hi I rooted my SE xperia play (R800I) 2.3.4 using unlock root but I did not unlock the boot loader I was just wondering what can I do with a rooted phone with a locked boot loader and when ICS comes out for the R800I will it just wipe the root and install the update , when i choose to do so ?
Thank you
Lmr1342
I would like to know as well. What did you use to root the phone? I have a r800i and need to root it, I can't believe how locked down this damn thing is... WTF Sony!
First off, I always remove the useless apps that come bundled with the phone. Titanium Backup does a good job at this (always make back-ups if unsure)
Yes, updating to ICS once it's released will almost definitely remove your root. Then, you'd either have to wait for an exploit or unlock your bootloader to root
All depends on what you want to do.
As stated above, you can use it to back-up or delete apps that come pre-installed onto the device.
However, some apps off the Play Store require root access to perform properly. Take Font Installer for instance. Without root access it wouldnt work. I have my Play installed with the Sony Sketch (PlayStation) font and it looks awesome. Its a free app as well so give it a try.
Next, apps like Widget locker (allows you to add widgets to your lockscreen as well as change the slider) can use root access to prevent the app from being killed by the task killer.
If say, your Power button breaks and you need to reboot, you can use the Android Terminal emulator to reboot your device as well.
What you are best to do is search "root" in the Play Store or "root android uses" in Google
Hope I cleared things up a bit for you

Xperia s home launcher not working

I m totally new to android customisation.
So here is what all I did and made phone completely useless for me.
1. I rooted my phone using eroot software posted on xda.
2.i deleted lock screen apk from system/apps and copied there the jellybean lockscreen apk. It worked fine
3. Then I deleted home.apk from system/apps, which is stock home launcher of Sony.(before deleting I copied it to sd card portion, to take a backup)
4. Now i installed lg optimus ui3 home launcher. This launcher worked well. But there was some icon text alignment issue.(file size was around 15 mb. I also installed whether widget with it)
5. Because of the issue I removed this launcher and installed some other lg optimus ui3 for hd device(1280x720)(file size was around 55mb). This solved the text alignment issue. But I was unable to open app drawer and it showed error.
6. So I decided to switch back to previous lg home launcher(which was having alignment issues). I again deleted the new lg ui apk and replaced it with previous lg ui apk.
7. Now is the main problem. Home launcher is not working. Its constantly showing error. Only background wallpaper is appearing and no home screen. No app icons or widget on home screen is appearing. As there is nothing appearing, I cant access app drawer to open root xplorer and change home launcher to stock home laucher(which I copied to sd card folder to take backup)
Phone turns on properly. It shows jelly bean lock screen. Iam also able to receive calls, sms, etc. I am able to access settings, notificatipn bar. I am able to launch camera from lock screen. But as I unlock the lock screen, it just shows wallpaper and error message that home launcher is not working. So I am not able to do anything else, not even make phone call.
Whst should I do?
Is there a way to access root folder through pc, so that I can replace lg ui home launcher with original sony home launcher?
Can I install any app on the device through pc, so that I can install some other home launcher like go launcher etc, which might solve the issue?
Kindly help....
Phone is only rooted, and nothing else( I mean I dont know anyrging about terms I read like recovery, flashboot, etc)
Sent from my WT19i using Tapatalk 2
You can push a third-party launcher like Nova, Apex free edition via Flashtools using PC. Then you can use that launcher via phone to make any further changes.
thats a lesson I leanrt the hard way. Never play with home launchers unless you have a backup installed. But you can push it through adb or flashtool like mentioned already.
You can use Android commander on your pc to access the system/root folder.
Android commander can be downloaded freely, just use google and you can find it.
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
Firstly, I would request if someone could give me links to detailed guide on flashtools, custom roms, and related terms.
Now coming to the reported issue. As I said still need to find more about flash tools.
So I went ahead and downloaded android commander. In this application, even though my phone is rooted, it showed its not. So plan of deleting lg launcher apk from root folder and moving original launcher back to root folder, didnt work.
But in this application, there is another helpful tool of installer. It helps installing apk directly to your phone without use of phone. So I went ahead and downloaded go launcher apk and installed it using android commander installer tool.
Disconnected my phone. Pressed the home button and it gave me choice to switch between launcher apps installed.
After that I moved original launcher apk back to root folder using root explorer on phone itself.
And at last phone is working and back to normal.
Would like to thank all the three guys above for replying and helping with the issue.

[Q] How to install Xposed Framework on Xperia M?

Hey people,
How would I go about installing the XPOSED FRAMEWORK on my Sony Xperia M? I am on 4.3 15.4.A.9 or whatever it is. I have Titanium Backup Pro, have backed up. My boot loader is locked. I really can't afford for the device to brick/bootloop. Does anyone have a successful way? Because I want to tweak my System Bar as well...
Any help would be appreciated.
-cheesedude.
I've never had and problem with installing Xposed as you should do.
1) Install the Xposed .apk
2) Open Xposed and tap Framework
3) Make sure Installation Mode is on Classical (change it if it isn't)
4) Tap Install/Update, let the framework install.
5) Reboot
Latest version of xposed framework.
Hi. This actually is my first post, so Yay.
I rooted my phone using adb fastboot thing and I installed xposed. And now, I don't know what I've done, but I'm not able to install any module. In fact, no apks either.. Any help appreciated!

Never happened to me before. All I did (locked bootloader) is to have full root, install Xposed Installer, install the framework, reboot, install any module, then activate and reboot. Never had any issues.

Change of plans ;P
I actually want to flash a custom rom, but I'm not able to decide, because of the large variety.. Please give me some links, guys? I'm sorry for troubling you; I feel like a pain in the neck..
EDIT : if what I just said was absolutely irrelevant to the topic, please shoot me :\

Hey man,I don't think you need a custom rom,I've done everything I want without downloading a custom rom, however before doing anything make sure you have full root (the ability to edit system files not just view them), if you don't have full root anything you do will get your phone to reboot and fc,,
First of all I have cwm, deodoxed rom, unlocked bl but I mainly use them.to install mods like the m2 systemui but I think there's a way for locked bootloader and odexed by using flash gordon or something like that (the method is explained in the mod's thread).
Moreover is this my phones systemui, I've installed xposed without any problems
1. Download xposed installer
2. Pressed classic install
3. Rebooted my phone
4. Download 4 main mods
A. Gem xperia xposed
Using it for: the transparent status and navigation bar, the menu mod, the extra hidden apps button, the kitkat thing when you open an app and the navigation and status bar gets shaddy
B. Tinted status bar
C. Advanced power menu
To add a reboot button
D. Im really sorry I've forgotten its name but it's used for changing the navigation bar icons but I Uninstalled it for a simple reason, in stock xperia icons in opera mini a 4th button is added and it's hidden in other apps, but while using this mod I had to show the 4th (menu) button all the time
Ps: I dont reboot after modding systemui or luncher I simply restart it
If you like what I've done ill post the method for using gem xperia and tinted status bar
Sorry I forgot to attach these Images, this is the final result
If I helped you don't forget to press the thanks button
Thanks, all of you! I'll try redoing this after my exams...

Before doing anything
-download the ftf file of the latest software for your phone
-install flashtool and drivers.
-Enable USB debugging and
-backup your phone (a normal backup no need for root apps and all that stuff)
-Learn how to flash an ftf
If you have an unlocked bootloader all you need is cwm and a nandroid backup and of course flashtool in case anything got wrong and you messed the kernel
Don't worry, I bricked my phone many times
Okay guys, I realised what the problem was. I was using a Screen Filter, so I wasn't able to install anything. In case anyone else comes with this problem, make sure you pause the filter or blacklist the package installer (most filter apps do this on their own; mine apparently didn't :\).

[MOD] Freeze all apps in apps manager

Hi all I am here with one other (un)usefull mod. With this modification you will be able to freeze all apps in native application manager + you will be able to set on/off notifications for all apps.
HOW TO:
make full backup in twrp
flash in twrp one of zip
freeze_app_mod_with_su.zip - if you use Move SuperSU to Settings Mod flash this one
freeze_app_mod.zip - in other cases flash this one
happy freezing
one issue - original launcher can't be freeze
This mod will replace Settings.apk with new one deodexed, it is based on 2.2.1 Oxygen OS version and is tested only on this version. Be careful what you will freeze or you can freeze whole phone
Good work.
But why spend time on this? We can use 3rd apps like sd maid to freeze.
