I think cyon has the best rom right now? Whats your opinion?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
In reality the most stable as our device goes is the official test JB ROM. Its probably the most true to what the device should be (according to Samsung)... When building on the AOSP source and trying to merge changes to the code base it usually can break things... in this case that is quite a regular occurrence.
Almost all the AOSP ROM's are based on CyanogenMod code... that tells me something. I skip straight to the source I use CM 10 and flash the nightlies whenever they come out.

Whitehawkx AOKP ROM. The latest build. You can find it in the original development section. I have no problems what so ever.

You'd think I would have figured this out by now, but having been a CM9 loyalist since day one I never bothered to learn what any of the others constitute beyond looking at what their acronyms stood for.
So my questions are as follows:
1) What exactly is the difference between Android Open Source, Android Open Kang, and CyanogenMod? My initial understanding (and this was when I followed the stuff more closely on the HP Touchpad) was that AOSP was built directly from the source Google released, CM9 took it and tweaked it for the specific device, and AOKP piggybacked off that to further tweak. I'm not so sure anymore.
2) Who's developing what? I thought the three branches were distinct but then I see sbrissen and chris seemingly making commits to both CM and AOSP, so I'm a little confused by this.
3) What's receiving the most development right now? I was on CM9 Alpha 6 for the longest time. I was debating from moving to a CM9 nightly or a CM10 beta, but the separate thread for AOSP Jellybean made me wonder what exactly that offered vs CM10. I was tempted to stay on CM9 just because it's been around longer but I haven't seen any "official" updates in awhile (i.e. ones on the e4gt.blogspot.com site--I'm sure the nightlies are official in some sense). Is it still even being worked on by the CM team anymore or have they all jumped ship to CM10 development?
As of right now I just flashed the FH13 ICS Stock onto my phone to see how that works out. When the other roms reach a better level of stability I'll probably move back to one of the CM's, but I wanted some idea of what I'm flashing before I do.
Thanks in advance.

Okay...half-answered one of my three questions...and I kind already knew that.
Thanks anyway.
Google it. You will get your answers. Most pointing to the xda forums.

Cm9 is still being worked on. Chris41g is working on making it officially supported. His nightlies are so much better than alpha 6. I'd recommend upgrading to a nightly if you are on a6. Sbrissens jb aosp is also amazing as well. For me the jump from his alpha 4 to 5 was a huge difference in terms of battery life. I haven't had any los on it or any other problems on it. Recently on one of the alphas (idr which one, probably the latest) he added the status bar toggles so that was a huge plus as well. It still doesn't have the customization of cm10 but it's still amazing.

AOKP is been my favorite ROM and it has so much customization but what happen to all AOKP threads ? They all closed. Is any Dev developing AOKP because on AOKP site they are up to Jelly bean and so far we don't have anything for our device. Thank you once again to all devs for giving us so much freedom and choice.
We have a dev who is gonna be attempting to build from source, i don't know where that thread went. Patience is my only advice it'll be here soon enough.

Source built JB AOKP for E4GT
Sent from my piece of crap Zio until i get my E4GT back from Samsung, using XDA Premium app
I'm working on it. This is my first build from source for a non supported device so its not exactly easy going... lots to learn. I had jay close my thread that mattix linked you to since it served no purpose. I hope to have it booting this weekend/ early next week and will post in development when its ready

Thank you very much for even trying that because only few devs have tried previcously and all threads are closed. So if you need tester let me know. I still use AOKP .
Thank you.

I love AOKP too but after all threads started to close and devs disappear I gave up on it, then went CM but perpetual alpha and some issues I gave up on any customizations, root etc. Now I only use stock or combinations of different stock parts like modems or kernels that flash only via Odin.
Will try later cp AOKP JB and CM10 but when they are more mature.

Just a few points. I'm not sure what you mean by devs leaving. We have as many now as we ever did. If you're referring to AOKP specifically times_infinity decided he didn't want to work on it anymore. His old builds are still available and very stable and he is still putting out awesome aosp ROMs for this phone. Regarding the alpha status of our aosp based ROM choices I think you're getting hung up on the name. With the innumerable threads I see around here complaining about this or that issue with stock I'd have no problem recomending someone use cm9/cm10/aokp as their daily driver... I've never had a serious issue with any of them. Or if you still don't trust the "alphas" there are some truly great tw based ROMs like goodness and blukuban that definitely deserve a shot. Just my 2 cents.....

If the aosp roms are alpha, id call ff18 a prealpha and fh13 a beta lol they have just as many if not more bugs than any of the aosp roms out. Hell even the aokp ports by TCP were more stable than stock seems to be. I flashed an ff18 leak to update my prl and profile, full wipe didn't load anything but TiBu so I could get mobile Odin with the flash kernel instead of having to redownload it and it was FC city as soon as it booted, process.acore, systemui kept FC over and over I ended up flashing the blukuban to do my updates before jumping back to aokp
We are legion, for we are many.

Hey Guys! Coming here from my SGS II actually haha. I just like the feel of this phone better!
So I had a few questions to start off with.
This one is solely based on whoever may be reading this's opinion. Which kernel do you feel atm gives you a fair balance of smooth performance and good battery life (and hopefully no heat issues).
The second question is kind of two questions. Does the Toroplus get CM10 nightly's yet? It seems that theres alot of kang's with cherry picks which i guess are coming from toro? And does anyone know if pete plans to give us toroplus users some JB bugless-beast awesomeness?
Thanks for taking the time to read

I'm using MinCo which is optimized for Franco Kernel. And obviously Franco Kernel. So far smoothest and most stable ROM I have used.

Hey guys! I sure do appreciate the responses! This seems like a super nice group of people here . If anyone has any other suggestions ill take em and thanks again!!
Is customization what you want? Or just smooth and stable rom?
If customization, I would recommend poking around sprint Gnex dev forum. A lot of good and customizable roms there!
If smooth and stable, just stock. Really. Jelly bean is only android version that I wouldn't be disappointed even with Stock rom and kernel.
Overall, I would recommend d you to use stock for awhile and then if you're not happy with it, try popular custom roms.
Have a nice day and welcome!

With so many ROM's available, I'm curious as to which one is getting the most love.
I haven't listed all ROM's. I've gone through Development forum and the Galaxy Nexus Index and picked what I think might be the most appropriate based on replies/posts in the individual ROM's thread as well as when the ROM was last updated.
If you could also post below why you are using the ROM you voted for that would be great.
If you are using a ROM not listed in the poll, please mention it below also.
AOKP
Not only it is super fast and smooth with Franco Kernel, but also it has tons and tons of customization in this ROM that I love. Also the look on my friends face when I show them my unicorn and swagger toggle is priceless
Swyped on my Galaxy Nexus running AOKP with Franco Kernel
I am loving AffinitySeries from Android Developer Alliance. It hasn't been updated for almost 2 months but it doesn't need one. I have been running it for a month and a half and have never had an issue. It is solid, fast and has just enough customizations. I am running it with Franco's kernel and Dustin's Cobalt theme and haven't found a combination yet that tops it.
As if having a great ROM wasn't enough, ADA is also a very pleasant and professional group. The devs are active in their threads and will answer questions promptly and without condescension.
Allons-y
Xenon HD
Give it a try it is super stable and has also a ton of customizations! Updates are on a weekly basis or faster if there is a severe bug!

codename (android)
the best rom for me, combine with zenbook series kernel make this rom even better. codename android like combination of aokp and cynogenmod but stable and fast...
sorry for mt bad english

100% codename... but PA is way to cool too...
I just keep changin between these two.
Codename Android. So good rom that I haven't even bothered trying any others. Have used Trinity kernel with it but now testing lean.
MIUI
Lots of options, but mainly because its just different. Both my gf and a close friend have the gnex so it seems like I'm surrounded by aosp devices.

Hands down Paranoidandroid. With every update comes brand new features, not to mention smoothness and speed improvements. After using this rom initially back on my Droid Incredible 2 I immediately rooted and flashed this on day 1 of owning my Gnex, there is no way I can go back to using anything else, this rom has more customizations and options than anything I have ever used in the 3 1/2 yrs I've been using android.
To top that off PA is typically updated once and sometimes twice in a week, besides CM10 nighties I can't think of a rom that gets that much attention and brings brand new options with every update! The fact that Maguro, Toro and Toroplus are all overseen is the other thing that makes it so amazing, most developers build roms for maguro and us over in toro and toroplus land have to wait quite awhile to get our port if it ever happens.
Bottomline, this rom is AMAZING!
Rasbean and lean because well its just so smooth

Loving Sourcery! I would actually run rasbean if I could change the navbar like you can with aokp/cna/Sourcery. I have to have a power button on my navbar, mainly because of worries about wearing out the physical power button.

Brassdroid
I'm running brassdroid with the Franco kernel
So far I love it lots of options and super fast I have it overclocked to 1.8
With no problems very stable and smooth I have also removed the
Soft keys and I'm running lmt in place gives me the full 4.65" screen
What ROM? Asteroids on Atari.
