Stock AOSP? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Anybody know if anyone is building straight 4.4.2 AOSP with no bells and whistles just stock feel? Would love to have that

Should be happening soon now that google released the keenel source code for the n9005 for 4.4.2, im thinking in the next couple days hopefully..

I just want a ROM like Gummy without all the extras
AOKP & Lean Powered SM-N900T

I miss faux's aosp roms back on the mt4g days, they were bare bones stock and crazy smooth. Hoping he can get a note 3 and create some aosp roms for us, maybe someone can start a pledge for him.

New S3, which ROM?

Hi, just got a new S3 from ATT.
What's the best rom/setup with a good balance of minimalism/simplicity and customization?
New to andriod.. switching over from 4S.
thanks
Only you can decide that. What works best for YOU. So go try them.
Oh and welcome.

If u want something solid go for triune II ICS ROM

Best rom arguably out there is slimrom 2.3. It's 4.1.1 Jelly bean. Great on battery life. Have been using it for a week straight with zero issues.

If you want to keep all the features that come with stock Touchwiz, definitely use Ariel 2.07... has tons of customization features and allows you to use Google Wallet (NFC payment system)
There is no best rom, all is based on personal experience

pure Google vs. Touchwiz? give me ur thoughts.

which do u guys prefer pure Google such as cm10 cm9 etc... or Touchwiz such as Freegs3 Blazer Rom stock rooted etc....

I love ROMs like AOKP but pure android lacks many of the extras that Samsung packs into the TW ROM. The biggest thing for me is the camera on the AOSP ROMs. I use my camera and lot and the basic camera isn't enough for me. But that's about it. I love the updates and clean feel.

couldn't u use a app from the Google play that can almost mimick the camera app on AOSP such as procapture or Camera Zoom fx. nit trying to be mean just trying to get two sides on this thread?

All the tw features keep me on tw.
Sent from Pluto.
I personally love the "pure Google" look and feel. Very simplistic and fast. Not to say the TW ROMs aren't fast as well on this phone, but I like the AOSP feel a little more, even if I do have to occasionally restore my TW ROM to use some of the TW features (PRL updates, etc.)
Aosp just for reliability and its getting allot faster then two variants

What does asop mean anyway? Sorry for being ignorant.

AOSP means Android Open Source Project.
In other words AOSP is the default build that is pure and unchanged from what Google puts out.

I like the support and features of aosp based roms but at the same time i have to go to tw which is native to the phone because I don't have to worry about bugs or compatibility issues. Also the camera takes much better pictures on touchwiz vs aokp

I think the only way to get the true google experience is to get a nexus since the proprietary drivers are already there and not much modification is needed.
TW throws the heat man I flashed codename last night played around a bit and went straight back to TW the features on it are just so more refined on this device even without root. This is the second time (1st being the Photon) I'd just prefer not to add custom roms or anything really since everything is already so smooth and already there. Maybe when CM10 goes to official builds I'll go back but by then I'll already have the Note 2 and Android 4.2 or 5.0 whatever will be out and possibly all CM10 work will stop.
Once CM10 is finalized I could see that being my daily driver. Touchwiz is cool but there something beautiful about the simplistic look and feel of AOSP builds

If i flash a CM10 nightly just like normal, do i have to do anything special to go back to a touchwiz rom? Or do i just go back in recovery and restore it or install a new one?

I like AOSP but in this phone it lacks many things. By example full screen camera, and too many options that aren't available. I used CM9 in my Epic 4g because it was ICS. Now the experience of TW with ICS is other. I can wait for JB with TW.

I have been a big CM fan since I first got it on my HTC Sensation. I have to say now that I have the SIII I probably won't put CM on here. This phone is amazing just as it is, mostly. Had to root it obviously but I'm running stock rooted and I can't see myself ever changing that. Threw on derkernels alpha kernels to get some extra cpu speed. Not that it really needs it though. I absolutely love the camera. AOSP really doesnt have anything on this ROM. Which is something I never thought I'd say. On any phone.... Ever.

Sammie did a great job with TW on this bad boy. I used to flash CM for the lock screen features, notification toggles, speed, and battery life improvements. TW has all that now. Actually, its awesome but kinda sucks cuz it takes some of the excitement away from flashing new roms. Still, once JB is stable, I'll probably use AOSP more frequently.

Help a guy out with finding a ROM

I just got this phone....and I see there are over 100 threads in the dev section...all I want it a..

I just got my s3 yesterday, rooted it pretty much instantly and ran ashamans debloater tool just to give stock a chance. But being the flashaholic I am I had to flash drewgaren's jellybean747 milestone 7 and so far so good.
But I am thinking of trying some of the aokp/aosp ROMs, coming from an HTC vivid though its really nice to have so many options, so its extremely tempting to go flash crazy.

i think right now, the top ROMs closest to stock are both by DrewGaren.
JellyBean747 Milestone 7 and Serenity 1.2
JellyBean747 is based off the Sprint version that has received the official JellyBean release so far. and with that, you get the Sprint apps pre-loaded.
and the Serenity ROM is based off the AT&T Galaxy Note 2. so it's Jelly Bean, but you get some stylus related settings.
i have tried both, and i personally like (and am still using) Serenity. one of the main reasons i'm on Serenity, is because i'm on the AT&T shared family plan, where i have official wi-fi tethering. and it can only work on an AT&T based TouchWiz ROM. (but also for CM10 and AOKP ROMs).
Intergalactic is stock with a awesome kernel and amazing battery life, my daily driver for a week and it's awesome. Put the jelly bean theme to it and have a sick rom with great looks, EVERYTHING works and just awesome battery.

There are so many good ones. You really just need to take some time and flash a few. I was on Slim ROM with my cappie and again with my s3. Have been using Task650 and Ktoonsez AOKP and am really enjoying it.
Task & ktoonez AOKP is the way to go
Best rom around
Sent from my toaster
Task AOKP is extremely popular, and I must agree it's a great rom. I like CM10 and AOKP the most, but in actuality it all comes down to preference. I suggest you try them out for yourself.
Task and ktoonsez aokp is the best Imo. It's getting really polished these days as well.

Can't go wrong with Task650's AOKP project. I've tried out most of the other jelly bean ROMs here and his is head and shoulders above the rest. A word to the wise - by all means enjoy his work but read the original post at the start of the thread and always remember - the search feature here on XDA is your best friend.
Intergalatic , stock, stable 18hrs 3 hrs screen time and EVERYTHING works.

I'm a CM10 fanatic, have tried out a lot of other ROMs and always come back to it. Just went stable and 4.2 should be coming soon! Can't go wrong.

New to Samsung

Greetings fellow S2 users. I hope I'm not too late to the party and that this phone still receives much love. I come from the OG Evo 4g side of the forums and after 2 years on sprint, I decided to high tail it to something moderately priced, more current hardware wise, and a plan that is more affordable.
And now with the release of the new OFFICIAL JB update from good 'ol Samsung, will there be any TW kernels or only AOSP? On the Evo, Sense was terrible and slow as all hell, but after playing with TW for a while I've actually become quite fond of the layout compared to AOSP. I will eventually make the switch to AOSP, but for now am LOVING the features of TW. The Music Square is nice for mood based music, I like that the video player plays pirated movies without the need for codecs/apps, WIFI calling is great and works flawlessly, and free visual voicemail without the need for Google Voice. And lets not forget free Hotspots.
Sad to see that Facial unlocking is now gone with the new JB update, and there are no music controls on lockscreen for default music app, but those are minor flaws. Would like to see S-Voice but IDK if it's a GSIII thing or not so not too bent out of shape.
So without much further ado, I am here to ask did I make a mistake picking the SGSII, and what I should know about ROM and Kernel wise compared to the OG Evo 4G. In other words, I assume that instead of Sense, it's now boiled down to TW (touchwiz) and AOSP based roms? Furthermore, is SBC still a thing; As in trickle charging? And are there any other news/tricks I should know about?
I would try out the PAC man ROM to be honest a lil bit of everything besides touchwiz i was a flashaholic but as soon as i started using PAC man ROM i havnt been able to find another ROM that suits me i love it and all the customizing options

In order of rom purity:
1. Try touchwiz either stock or ptmr3's new builds.
2. Cm10.1 official by team chopsticks
3. Aokp official by whitehawkx
4. Pac
5. Else
PTMR3 is currently working on a custom 4.1.2 tw kernel from source. so in a day or 3 we will have a jb tw kernel:good:
and if you want to try a great aosp rom jelly bam is where its at but you wont find it on xda its on goo.im under devs - jelly bam - tmobile galaxy s2. i recommend it with cerux kernel. also you can use roms from the skyrocket also so check out that thread too.
Its a great phone with a lot of development.

custom tw 4.1.2 kernel up in dev thread :highfive:
This is a great phone. I keep going back to Pacman Rom by Jaydubb in development or in general which is up to date by gs2usr. And a custom kernel btpy Emerson called cerux. Great combo

I played with it for a small time, but was saddened by the fact I couldn't get WIFI calling on anything but TWIZ.It's the main reason I went to TMO because I get poor reception in my house. Although while on the rom, I noticed I had more bars than I did on default JB Twiz rom.
Back when I had my EVO I remember people saying AOSP uses different parameters to measure signals compared to stock roms, is this still true?
This phone is one of the best I've ever had, loving every feature of it, currently running Embryo rom 6.11 with cymbaline 3.0.74 kernal, amazing speeds benching in high 11's, its twiz based since I personally hate asop lol, all around beast of a phone, you did good...
