Hello,
I have the VZW GS3 which has a million ROM's, sadly this doesn't seem to be the case here on the sprint phone.l
The most important thing is that everything works , thats it.
Are there any good stable ROM's out there without any built in themes?
Does anyone make TW ROM's? I havnt seen any on here
Lastly, what does LG8 mean?
The stock room is very stable imo. I have tried custom rooms on my evo in the past but have not felt the need here yet.
LG8 is the build number of the stock Rom that was the latest into a few weeks ago. The current release is LI3.

So your girlfriend has Sprint?
LG8 is the firmware version. This version is old. The latest official release is LI3. There are leaked firmware versions up to LIH now. This is Samsung's way to identify when the firmware versions were made. L=2012 I=September, 3=3rd. It goes up to 9 before it goes into letters to represent 10th day and higher.
As for Roms, there are quite a few tw roms available. Check out the android development section. There you will find both ice cream sandwich roms as well as the jelly bean leaks. I'm running jelly bomb domination jelly bean Rom. It's perfect!!!! Great battery life, no issues at all, and its fully themed.
If you want ICS I'd recommend team sonic free gs3 Rom.

Blazer rom jelly Bean V1.9 is the most stable and zero lag on bluetooth stream. update to LIH n u are good.

Most of the roms in the dev forum are touchwiz roms. Almost all of these are stable, even jellybomb (based of leaked jellybean rom) is stable. I've had 0 issues so far, and it feels faster. Sonic, blazer, and many others are stable as well. I like jellybomb though. Most of the bugs will be in the AOSP roms (or miui). These were built from the ground up without Samsungs work. They'll be in the original development mostly.
I've been running blazer for weeks now, on the ics 1.9 version currently and no issues what-so-ever.

I appreciate you guys clearing it up for me. I have not been on XDA for a while and didn't see there are two separate Dev sections now. I was only looking at one of them.
I just have a question regarding Jelly Bean. I run the VZW version myself and we have some major data issues when we run AOSP JB, like data drops, not connecting despite showing full bars etc. Is this an issue at all on the Sprint version ? Are there any issues related to JB?

I thought the best TWiz ROM was Team Sonic FreeGS3 and ran that for the longest until i stumbled upon Blackbean ROM, which is a Jelly Bean ROM, and haven't gone back to TWiz ever since.
The TW JB LIH leak is very nice, very stable, and used by many as a daily driver.

Well, quite a few people have had data issues, mostly concerning the 3g/4g handoff, but I wouldn't say its MAJOR like you make it sound on VZW. I personally like TouchWiz Jellybean.

All the JB ROM's I've tried have caused a noticeable hit on battery life for me. I need my phone to last 10 hours reliably, and after every JB ROM I've tried, I was down below 20% after 10 hours, and that's not acceptable. What's your battery life on Blackbean like?
With FreeGS, I am usually around 60-70% after 10 hours, depending on usage.
Can anyone give me input on data quality on Blackbean and FreeS3 ROMs? I know its an odd question but my ROM's data isn't what it should be. I'm just wondering if this the case with most JB ROMs.

I'll agree. I rooted a couple of Nook Colors at work and when the slightest thing went wrong I'd have to take it home and flash it or update it or something. I guess rooting is best kept to one's self.

Haha it is technically my ex-gf.
I am only doing her S3 because I did this for her Evo 4g and she didn't complain once.
My girlfriend has been using a few custom roms that I've flashed for her on her nexus, but shes been having multiple SOD's and random restarts and other stability issues on 4.2.1 roms (tried a few). I would like to know the most stable rom/kernel combination that you have used in the past, 4.1.2 is preferable if the stability is better. Just basic rom features is all she needs, but stability and speed is most important, I feel pretty bad for giving her roms with some issues that I haven't experienced on my sgs3.
Thank you all for the help
If you are looking for stability and simplicity go with mmuzzy French vanilla rom. Its smooth and stable. If u want stable with mods go with carbon rom. Its fast smooth and good on battery life.

Thank you, I'm going to try flashing MMuzzy toro tonight and see how that works out
stock
yeah get her on 4.1.2 before she complains that you "broke" her phone lol. anyways i only use 4.1.2 roms right now, and i can tell you that jb sourcery 3.1 and liquid smooth 2.0 RC9 have both been straight shooters with great performance and not a single SOD in either of them
I just flashed MMuzzy's French Vanilla rom and my word is this thing awesome. Almost indistinuishable from stock. I wish I had a friend who had the GSM Gnex so we could compare features.
If you are looking for a few more features without losing stability I strongly recommend Nexus Evolution. The current version is from Jan 4 and a new version is likely to come out today or at least very soon

Thanks for all the responses I will be flashing a few of these tonight
If you want a daily driver, use stock (deodexed and rooted for customization)
Xenon is definitely my favorite.

I wouldn't recommend bugless. BuglessPete hasn't updated it since Nov, so it is still 4.1.1.
I would recommend stock, rooted, deodexed. If you want features, then MMuzzy has been quite stable for me.
I just flashed Carbon V1 over XenonHD and it's running pretty smoothly. A lot of the 4.2 and mostly all of the 4.1 ROMs are pretty stable overall.
Greetings fellow S2 users. I hope I'm not too late to the party and that this phone still receives much love. I come from the OG Evo 4g side of the forums and after 2 years on sprint, I decided to high tail it to something moderately priced, more current hardware wise, and a plan that is more affordable.
And now with the release of the new OFFICIAL JB update from good 'ol Samsung, will there be any TW kernels or only AOSP? On the Evo, Sense was terrible and slow as all hell, but after playing with TW for a while I've actually become quite fond of the layout compared to AOSP. I will eventually make the switch to AOSP, but for now am LOVING the features of TW. The Music Square is nice for mood based music, I like that the video player plays pirated movies without the need for codecs/apps, WIFI calling is great and works flawlessly, and free visual voicemail without the need for Google Voice. And lets not forget free Hotspots.
Sad to see that Facial unlocking is now gone with the new JB update, and there are no music controls on lockscreen for default music app, but those are minor flaws. Would like to see S-Voice but IDK if it's a GSIII thing or not so not too bent out of shape.
So without much further ado, I am here to ask did I make a mistake picking the SGSII, and what I should know about ROM and Kernel wise compared to the OG Evo 4G. In other words, I assume that instead of Sense, it's now boiled down to TW (touchwiz) and AOSP based roms? Furthermore, is SBC still a thing; As in trickle charging? And are there any other news/tricks I should know about?
I would try out the PAC man ROM to be honest a lil bit of everything besides touchwiz i was a flashaholic but as soon as i started using PAC man ROM i havnt been able to find another ROM that suits me i love it and all the customizing options

In order of rom purity:
1. Try touchwiz either stock or ptmr3's new builds.
2. Cm10.1 official by team chopsticks
3. Aokp official by whitehawkx
4. Pac
5. Else
PTMR3 is currently working on a custom 4.1.2 tw kernel from source. so in a day or 3 we will have a jb tw kernel:good:
and if you want to try a great aosp rom jelly bam is where its at but you wont find it on xda its on goo.im under devs - jelly bam - tmobile galaxy s2. i recommend it with cerux kernel. also you can use roms from the skyrocket also so check out that thread too.

I played with it for a small time, but was saddened by the fact I couldn't get WIFI calling on anything but TWIZ.It's the main reason I went to TMO because I get poor reception in my house. Although while on the rom, I noticed I had more bars than I did on default JB Twiz rom.
Back when I had my EVO I remember people saying AOSP uses different parameters to measure signals compared to stock roms, is this still true?
This phone is one of the best I've ever had, loving every feature of it, currently running Embryo rom 6.11 with cymbaline 3.0.74 kernal, amazing speeds benching in high 11's, its twiz based since I personally hate asop lol, all around beast of a phone, you did good...

And besides, most of the available Roms are equally stable / very soon to be stable.
Do a good flash, making sure to wait a while right after flashing, and all will be good.

I second this one. Jedi Jelly 6 is very smooth. My only issue with it is that it's based off of a leaked AT&T ROM.
I believe ptmr3 (the dev) is working on a new version that is based on the recent 4.1.2 release specifically for the SGH-T989.
I switched to an AOSP based ROM and I'm never looking back despite wifi calling being a cool feature, but I never used it. Anyway, I've been using 2.2 Slimstars which was pretty great. The updates seemed to be a little unstable like the camera not working. Is the new one, 4.12 pretty much fixed? And are there many changes with 4.2.2? I may try PACman. How's that stability wise? Stability and speed (I just want it to work without waiting you know?) are priorities.
ptmr3's Jedi Mind Trick JB 2.1 is by the the fastest and smoothest and glitch free rom out there
I have tried almost all roms of the ICS and JB flavour
personally I do not like non touchwiz roms
and all CM and AOKP 4.2 roms do not support MHL output or Bluetooth mouse properly
everything seems to work on JMT except for OP known issues
Currently I'm looking to flash a rom onto my Gs3 that has Multi-Window enabled, but maybe something that doesnt involve touchwiz(?), I'm just a newbie to XDA and I wasn't sure on what the best Roms for my Gs3 that still have Jelly Bean, but aren't exactly stock rom are. I've been looking at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176793
But one thing i noticed is that in the description it talks about how the dev removed VERIZON bloatware and VERIZON ota updating, which makes me a little skeptical as to flashing it to my AT&T GS3. Any and all suggestions on what a good, stable rom with Multi-window and possibly some of the other GS3 original features would be appreciated!

Multi-window is a touchwiz feature, so u can't have it without a tw ROM. Check out S3Rx. Awesome ROM, insanely customizable, great support!! A lot of the other ROMs u will see use these guys mods in their ROMs.

Actually, I have the same question. I just got one AT&T version GS3. I don't like all AT&T bloatware, but I like stock ROM quality(in terms of stability, and smoothness).
Which version has no AT&T bloatware, has multi-window support, and as reliable as Samsung stock ROM ?

For what its worth, Dandroid is my TouchWiz choice. Completely stock with a CM feel to it. I was getting great battery life out of it too! Its debloated and runs very fast! I also have to agree with KuRuPtIoN, that Slimbean is a good choice. Just tried the 4.3 and its rock solid. I have flashed almost every rom on these forums a couple of times, and I always come back to Dandroid for TouchWiz and either Slimbean or Tasks AOKP for non TouchWiz

I agree with this totally. TiBu will help you debloat the useless stuff that AT&T deems to put on the phone and it gives you more control in terms of disabling those pesky services you don't want running. I've been running the update just to see what improvements were made and so far so good once I debloated. I will be reverting back to AOSP soon though because I want the 4.3 goodness more than I want Samsung "goodies".
