[Q] Need Help deciding on a rom for my Gs3 - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Currently I'm looking to flash a rom onto my Gs3 that has Multi-Window enabled, but maybe something that doesnt involve touchwiz(?), I'm just a newbie to XDA and I wasn't sure on what the best Roms for my Gs3 that still have Jelly Bean, but aren't exactly stock rom are. I've been looking at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176793
But one thing i noticed is that in the description it talks about how the dev removed VERIZON bloatware and VERIZON ota updating, which makes me a little skeptical as to flashing it to my AT&T GS3. Any and all suggestions on what a good, stable rom with Multi-window and possibly some of the other GS3 original features would be appreciated!

Multi-window is a touchwiz feature, so u can't have it without a tw ROM. Check out S3Rx. Awesome ROM, insanely customizable, great support!! A lot of the other ROMs u will see use these guys mods in their ROMs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252932

+1 to S3Rx.
and also to Intergalactic 3.0
both are TouchWiz based, and have multi-window.

A vote for deTmobilized also by enewman17. I tried the sr3x rom but wasn't fond of it.

Can't go wrong with Slimbean, it's not touch wiz though. Plus they just released JB 4.3 today.

Also +1 for S3rX. In theory it should be better than DeTMO, because it's an ATT base with all the funness added on top.
I personally love it and have it on mine and my wife's phones.

How stable would you say it is?
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

Quantum rom with bionic sheep kernel. It's ridiculously smooth and fast. Like its insane how nice it is. I've flashed a lot of roms over the past few months and this takes the cake. Running 4.3 as well is cool. That or I'd say TASK650 rom was sexy too.

Actually, I have the same question. I just got one AT&T version GS3. I don't like all AT&T bloatware, but I like stock ROM quality(in terms of stability, and smoothness).
Which version has no AT&T bloatware, has multi-window support, and as reliable as Samsung stock ROM ?
Thanks all in advance for all replies.

Root the stock 4.1.2 rom and debloat it manually. I have done this on 4 of my relative's I747 and they haven't had any issues.

For what its worth, Dandroid is my TouchWiz choice. Completely stock with a CM feel to it. I was getting great battery life out of it too! Its debloated and runs very fast! I also have to agree with KuRuPtIoN, that Slimbean is a good choice. Just tried the 4.3 and its rock solid. I have flashed almost every rom on these forums a couple of times, and I always come back to Dandroid for TouchWiz and either Slimbean or Tasks AOKP for non TouchWiz

I agree with this totally. TiBu will help you debloat the useless stuff that AT&T deems to put on the phone and it gives you more control in terms of disabling those pesky services you don't want running. I've been running the update just to see what improvements were made and so far so good once I debloated. I will be reverting back to AOSP soon though because I want the 4.3 goodness more than I want Samsung "goodies".

Rooting Gf's phone, need a STABLE ROM

Hello,
I have the VZW GS3 which has a million ROM's, sadly this doesn't seem to be the case here on the sprint phone.l
The most important thing is that everything works , thats it.
Are there any good stable ROM's out there without any built in themes?
Does anyone make TW ROM's? I havnt seen any on here
Lastly, what does LG8 mean?
The stock room is very stable imo. I have tried custom rooms on my evo in the past but have not felt the need here yet.
LG8 is the build number of the stock Rom that was the latest into a few weeks ago. The current release is LI3.

So your girlfriend has Sprint?
LG8 is the firmware version. This version is old. The latest official release is LI3. There are leaked firmware versions up to LIH now. This is Samsung's way to identify when the firmware versions were made. L=2012 I=September, 3=3rd. It goes up to 9 before it goes into letters to represent 10th day and higher.
As for Roms, there are quite a few tw roms available. Check out the android development section. There you will find both ice cream sandwich roms as well as the jelly bean leaks. I'm running jelly bomb domination jelly bean Rom. It's perfect!!!! Great battery life, no issues at all, and its fully themed.
If you want ICS I'd recommend team sonic free gs3 Rom.

Blazer rom jelly Bean V1.9 is the most stable and zero lag on bluetooth stream. update to LIH n u are good.

Most of the roms in the dev forum are touchwiz roms. Almost all of these are stable, even jellybomb (based of leaked jellybean rom) is stable. I've had 0 issues so far, and it feels faster. Sonic, blazer, and many others are stable as well. I like jellybomb though. Most of the bugs will be in the AOSP roms (or miui). These were built from the ground up without Samsungs work. They'll be in the original development mostly.
I've been running blazer for weeks now, on the ics 1.9 version currently and no issues what-so-ever.

I appreciate you guys clearing it up for me. I have not been on XDA for a while and didn't see there are two separate Dev sections now. I was only looking at one of them.
I just have a question regarding Jelly Bean. I run the VZW version myself and we have some major data issues when we run AOSP JB, like data drops, not connecting despite showing full bars etc. Is this an issue at all on the Sprint version ? Are there any issues related to JB?

All the JB ROM's I've tried have caused a noticeable hit on battery life for me. I need my phone to last 10 hours reliably, and after every JB ROM I've tried, I was down below 20% after 10 hours, and that's not acceptable. What's your battery life on Blackbean like?
With FreeGS, I am usually around 60-70% after 10 hours, depending on usage.
Can anyone give me input on data quality on Blackbean and FreeS3 ROMs? I know its an odd question but my ROM's data isn't what it should be. I'm just wondering if this the case with most JB ROMs.

I'll agree. I rooted a couple of Nook Colors at work and when the slightest thing went wrong I'd have to take it home and flash it or update it or something. I guess rooting is best kept to one's self.

best rom for galaxy s3?

Hi im currently using the frosty jellybean v7 rom for my gs3. But i really dislike the battery life for this rom.
Im looking for a good rom, touch wiz or not. With a good battery life and great features in a most stable manner. Also, if there is one that can wifi tether t mobile, than let me know of my options. Also if possible, is there a non touchwiz rom with actual touchwiz features like svoice or motion/nfc?
Thanks in advance.
Best advice is just to try each one. You're going to get a different answer from everyone and only you know exactly what you want. That being said, it's AOKP for me.

There's quite a few AOSP/CM based ROMS in the original development section if you want to stay on JB but try something new and without Touchwiz. Battery life is decent too especially cuz alot of the Samsung bloat isnt running.
AOSP Roms use android's built in Wifi Tether. Not sure if this is compatible with how T-mobile's tethering plan works as I'm on a Canadian variant. NFC is available on these roms as well but SBeam is not.
As for the Touchwiz features, some of them can be mimicked with apps though how I'm not sure how effective or faithful these apps are. Try googling the name of the feature and add "Aosp" or "Galaxy nexus" to the search to see if there is a stock version of that feature

It all depends on what you want from your phone.
If you want stock based rom with all/most futures of original phone, I recommend FrostyJB. I use it and it's really good. Wicked is also good.
If you want simplicity, android 4.1.2 and you don't care about some stock functions of the phone, like motion, then go with cm10. I think paranoid is also based on that and it has some cool futures.
It all comes down to your preferences. Try some roms and stay with the one which makes you most happy.

Basicly all futures made by Samsung or Samsung exclusive. Like motion, smart stay and video in smaller window.

Kipster is right. Every rom has it's pros and cons. And it's unfair for devs to say which rom is best or worst. Everyone of them put a lot of hard work and free time to give us their creations and freedom of choice. For me the best is FrostyJB but some people who wrote here have different opinion.

Kipster is correct, it's always hard to say which rom is the best because all the devs do different work and for someone to say one rom is better then the other is really unfair to them.. They spend alot of time making these roms available to use users and really don't ask anything but for feedback and maybe a small donation for there time.. Best thing to do would be to read up on each rom and read the reviews from other members then find the one that fits your personal needs and give it a go..

Good Touchwiz Roms?

Hello,
My friend just got the galaxy s3 for sprint and he asked me to install him a nice rom, similar to my phone. Im from tmobile so I am not familiar with the sprint gs3 roms. I want a rom that uses Touchwiz, deoxed, and not too many bloat ware. On the tmobile forums we have Wicked by Deviant Development, is there anything similar to it? Thanks
Search in android development...all of those are "not original" roms, so mainly based on TW
I would recommend freezas simple stock rooted rom
No idea what wicked is but these are good ROMs.

I can ENTHUSIASTICALLY recommend The People's ROM....It has many very useful tweaks like the app killer by holding the menu button and the multi-view by holding the back button.
It also works flawlessly. I would suggest using the stock Kernel as me and a few others had excessive battery drain using KTOONZ kernel.
The developer, Kenny, is very active here and is very quick to address any problems that may arise. He is a top notch developer and I trust his work. I have been flashing ROMs for years and if I were putting it on a friends phone I wouldn't look at anything else.
Your friend will thank you for hooking him up with this ROM.
I get all my roms from galaxys3root.com. it has all carriers and direct downloads for the which ever carrier you need. I recomend reading the comments though, not all roms are stable.

Is 4.2.2 worth it?

So I switched to android 4.2.2 a while ago, on cyanogenmod nightly. But I saw mc3 was leaked, and want to try it.
Problem is it's 4.1.2, and I heard idle battery drain was improved in 4.2.2,but i can't recall my battery before this, since I recently got an extended battery.
Your opinion on whether or not I should chang to leaked "stock" MC3, or just stay.
I'm thinking about switching because I miss motions, parts of Svoice, and multi window was added in the leak.

So make a android and try it. It doesn't really matter what we think. It works great for TW. There is a rdf for md4 so an OTA will probably be out sooner then later, is my guess.

LiquidSmooth>TouchWiz
I would suggest sticking with Android 4.2.2 since TouchWiz MC3 only has a few extra features which to me are mainly gimmicks while AOSP 4.2.2 is much better with a lot less loaded crap on your phone and it's easier to modify in my opinion.
I personally don't use Nightly ROMs since they tend to be unstable which is not worth it. I am currently using LiquidSmooth version 2.2. The great thing about LiquidSmooth is that it's based on Cyanogenmod+AOKP+SlimRoms+Extra=LiquidSmooth. Also with less bloat that means that there is less extra stuff sucking on your battery in an AOSP ROM. A very smooth, stable and fast ROM with no bloat unlike stock TouchWiz.
Or if you want to stick with TouchWiz I would recommend a custom ROM such as strongsteve's Odexed Blue ROM, very nice ROM and much more professional and nicer looking compared to other modified TouchWiz ROMs in my opinion.

Yeah, I suppose you can remove the bloat manually but I find that a bit annoying. But it depends on what you like and want. Personally, my phone would pick up like 5/10 calls on TouchWiz while on AOSP ROMs it picks up all calls I make. I don't know why that is but hey it works.
I am running sons of android 4 . There is no battery drain issues on this rom. I can go all day with lots of use and still average well above 50 percent battery life .
I haven't used a 4.2 ROM in awhile, does anyone know if they fixed the issue with sound not coming through a dock when it is connected ?

+1. ALTHOUGH, you also lose all of the Samsung features though, but I rarely used them (motion, smart stay, etc.) and they are mainly gimmicks to me. Multi-view could come in handy I suppose but I would just rather use the task manager, multi-view I would use all the time if I had the Note, not on the GS3 though.
If you want an awesome 4.2.2 ROM I HIGHLY recommend DeviantXone. It just got updated today with loads of new stuff. Great ROM and great devs.

The only TW feature that I really miss is the stock video player. I loved floating that guy around and found it really easy to use. I tried the other floating players on the Play Store, but didn't really like them all that much. I currently use MXPlayer and allow the audio to play in the background. I deal with it, but once in a blue moon I'll restore my stock rom just to experience the glory of the floating video player.

I suggest that if you're interested in a ROM, go ahead and try it out. Different people like different things, so it's up to you to find out what works for you. With Titanium Backup and nandroid backups, it's easy to switch to different ROMs without losing critical data.
Personally, I ROM jump a lot. If I see something that looks interesting, whether it's 4.1, 4.2, TouchWiz, or AOSP, I'll check it out and run it for a few days. If I don't like it, I'll either nandroid back or flash another ROM I found interesting. That's what I love about Android.
My bad, I'm working on a ROM as well! So when I get done you should give my ROM a try...I'm trying to make it fully stable

IMHO, if I wanted an AOSP ROM I would have gotten a Google Phone. Buying a brand name phone will always come with brand-specific bloat.

Except, you can remove ALL the bloat....
Or flash AOSP

Yea, but the nexus 4 isn't on sprint (yet?) And the galaxy nexus is pretty old specs wise. If one person wanted the latest and greatest, and they were on sprint, it would most likely have to be a brand phone...
