get the galaxy s3 tool kit you can use that to root your phone

You can root a phone with the ROM that's already on the phone. Installing a custom ROM is optional.

Exactly.
When you root your phone, you simply root the phone, which means that you've got super permissions and a recovery on it.
But, just for some advice, if you want the stock ROM I suggest you install a custom version. The custom stock ROM will be optimized to give you better performance.
Give me a holler if you still don't understand anything. Better yet, why do you want to root your phone? This might get to the bottom of your mission.
By the way, for the future, this would belong in the Questions section. If you were taking a poll or asking a question for conversation, then it would be fine here. But, something technical like this is for Questions section.

Any Custom ROM to Official ICS Tutorial Needed

Hello can anyone write a tutorial that will send any T989 with custom ROM and RADIO to it's original configuration so Kias can upgrade phone to ICS ? Let's say I am on Darkside with radio from Blaze 4G and I do have my original ROM backed up with ROM Manager ....now what ? From what I understand I need 3 things to make a smooth transition.
1. Original 2.3.6
2. Original RADIO
3. No Custom Recovery (no clockwork)
I may be incorrect on clockwork but I know for sure radio and rom has to be exact. So is there anyone can write a tutorial that will put any T989 and ANY Custom ROM to it's original state ? (I hjope it's even possible)
Thank you.

I guess that link is for old stock ROM (ULKL1) . They upgrade it one more time before IcS to UVLDE. There is thread on general section.
Follow that

Is that mean I'll have to do an upgrade before I can do ICS ? Or I can just go from that straight to ICS ?
if you find the UVLDE md5.tar file in whatever thread it is in, you only need to go back to that STOCK version, there is no further update from that.
You can then do the ICS update after that.

Why not wait a few days for us to play with it first? Updating through Kies could render your device unrootable. With what I have been reading/hearing they may lock the bootloader and make it impossible to root until a security flaw is found and exploited. This could take days to even months if even possible. Like I said, my advice is to wait.

Crap ...... well I am with ICS now and hoping for ROOT ATM meanwhile I just glad whole process was painless and straight forward. One question if possible. So at this stage It'll be impossible to use same guide and return to 2.3.6 stock from before right ?
Thanks !

[Q] Omega?

Hi! I am really interested on the ''omega'' rom, and i want to install it. the problem is, that i have a question for installing it.
Can i install it just with like, ''es file viewer" ?
Or do i install it, like with flash on recovery mode?
Where is this ROM? Don't flash a thing yet! Link us the ROM.

OP, you are so lucky you decided to ask us before flashing.
i believe the ROM you are trying to flash is this one here.
assuming that you have a T-Mobile Galaxy S III SGH-T999...
this ROM is meant for the International Galaxy S III GT-I9300.
if you flash this ROM on your device, your device will brick, and you'll be stuck with a $600 paperweight.

Look in my resource guide and read some more man. You need to read more to prevent from making more mistakes.

Like already stated, you need to read more about this whole process. The fact that you even asked if you can flash a ROM through a file manager says that you shouldn't be flashing yet.
He needed to be walked through flashing Illusion through PMs (lol) from me, after giving him 2 links and being told what to do in a thread he made... I pray for his phone. Please please read more for 600$ sake.

SGH-I747M Root Method

Hi, people just noobie on SIII upgraded from IncS.
Just did a little research and saw that there is a rapid method for root access maded by Chainfire and this root is similar to be stock and stock recovery.
The question is there is any other method to gain root and have a different recovery.

Root and recovery are 2 separate things. You can have a rooted phone with stock firmware and stock recovery. Or, if you want to run a custom ROM, you can install a custom recovery which will allow you to do so (and many more things). Check out the link in my signature. Cheers

The I747 and I747M are the same devices, therefor, any ROM in this section will work on either.

EDIT:
His anwer:
No, Method i have posted for N7100 won't work on your device. Even don't try untill you don't have your stock ROM with you.
Sorry i don't have any information about your device.
This is supposed to work for N7102. First it flashes a custom recovery then you can root.

I think there is no special forum by CF for N7102
But if you have samsung N7102 (china) then i have found this file from CF auto root central
http://download.chainfire.eu/300/CF...-Auto-Root-t03gchnduos-t03gduoszc-gtn7102.zip
You can flash it if your device is same as i said above. Though i highly recommend to find stock ROM before testing it, so you can return to stock if anything goes wrong.
Do it at your own responsibility, I have no any inputs regarding this.
Thansk guys for the help!
But non of them work!
it isnt possible to go in download mode
and how to get a stock rom, its hard to find for this 1.
Thanks guys!
I think your device may not be samsung n7102 but Chinese clone. No support for that you may find in that case.

Why'd you root?

So a question I've been curious about, Why'd you root? Did you root to use apps that require root or did you do it to install awesome custom ROMs? Did you to it for any other reason?

The first reason is the addiction to custom roms..
I cannot stand stock ROMs and I wanted the latest version of android.

Because why not? It's a Linux based software, we should do whatever we can to it to make it better! Root, install custom ROMs, build ROMs, modify them, kernels, everything! For a better "UX" - User Experience
a few reasons:
1. Custom Roms! Its fun....
2. I dont mind stock roms... but I hate the stock firmware that the service providers provide on the phone (bloatware and locked down functionality, etc...)
3. and as you mentioned, many good apps require root. Such as titanium back up which I love using.
I just had to go back to stock as I was soft bricked, and after less than 24 hours I can't stand the bloatware, I have to enter my APN info (CM includes a bunch from the get-go), and tethering doesn't authorize. So I'm on XDA looking for the root procedure and I'll be looking for the (hopefully) perfect ROM soon.
The phone is old enough, maybe you won't get lollipop and every other major update. With root you can get whatever you want.
