Hi, people just noobie on SIII upgraded from IncS.
Just did a little research and saw that there is a rapid method for root access maded by Chainfire and this root is similar to be stock and stock recovery.
The question is there is any other method to gain root and have a different recovery.

Root and recovery are 2 separate things. You can have a rooted phone with stock firmware and stock recovery. Or, if you want to run a custom ROM, you can install a custom recovery which will allow you to do so (and many more things). Check out the link in my signature. Cheers

The I747 and I747M are the same devices, therefor, any ROM in this section will work on either.

You can root a phone with the ROM that's already on the phone. Installing a custom ROM is optional.

Exactly.
When you root your phone, you simply root the phone, which means that you've got super permissions and a recovery on it.
But, just for some advice, if you want the stock ROM I suggest you install a custom version. The custom stock ROM will be optimized to give you better performance.
Give me a holler if you still don't understand anything. Better yet, why do you want to root your phone? This might get to the bottom of your mission.
By the way, for the future, this would belong in the Questions section. If you were taking a poll or asking a question for conversation, then it would be fine here. But, something technical like this is for Questions section.

Hey guys, just joined the Android side after a long time with iPhones. Glad I made the switch!
Anyways... I'm trying to get rid of the stock WT and go with a custom rom that's less bloated but all custom roms seem to not support the i337 mf3 baseband.
I was looking at the kangabear rom..
Does anyone have suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Well... tried recovering with TWRP and it wouldn't take. Had to do a reset..

Hello there,
I suggest hanging out in this section where us AT&T S4 users are at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2257
As for your issue. As of now there are no methods to install custom recovery or ODIN on MF3. I'm on a same boat and we're waiting on Hashcode's safestrap. Which is essentially a workaround for our S4 locked bootloaders.
If you are curious or have any questions feel free to research on google or search in the provided section url I provided.

Awesome,
Thank you for that link!
I saw that MF3 was not custom rom-able, but I saw that some people were running MF3 with custom roms, which made me a bit curious.
I'll be patiently waiting for Hashcode's safestrap!

What you saw isn't totally incorrect. What is actually going on is the custom roms are actually installed on official MDL firmwares.
The developers have MF3 updates incorporated within their custom roms hence why they're labeled as MF3 in their topic titles.

I looked but I am unsure of which method to use, as in what is the difference between the CF-auto root and the CASUAL. Also which version of twrp do i use?
I used Casual.
After rooting, install GooManager and have it install TWRP.

Hello big guys.
I'm a noob when it comes to roots and roms on phones.
I have been using the offical touchwiz still and is a little interested in rooting the phone and installing cyanogenmod to make it work faster.
I've read that there is a one click method to root called towelroot right now, I want to try it because I don't really understand how to root with other ways on the forum.
And I'm wondering if anyone has tried it before so I can use it and move on to the next step of flashing a custom rom.
Thank you in advance.

Good luck!
Hi Folks,
I am going to upgrade my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The phone is currently locked to t-mobile with the stock rom 4.0.4.
My question is that; do I need unlock the phone FIRST, and then I can upgrade the rom?
Thanks.

Not sure, mine came factory unlocked for use on any network.
There's a post in the general section that covers permanent unlock, you might read through it.
Yes. Unlock, install custom recovery, flash SU binaries, boot, install super SU.
The unfortunate part is most links on XDA for some of that are dead. Need to search Google.
Also, good to Odin flash 4.1.2 first and make sure it works. Then recovery, root, etc.

you only need to unlock it to use on a different network
if you just want to upgrade your rom- install custom recovery and flash rom-

I meant bootloader unlock..... But now I remember.... Not applicable to the S2. ?
Since my t989, I've had Moto X, N5 and M8. All with bootloaders I had to unlock.
