Just bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T9999. Now I've been trying to install CWMR and root the dang thing. I have done absolutely everything that the threads on here say to do yet it won't work. I'm kind of at a loss in what to do or try?! When I run it through ODIN it states success but doesn't work. When I try to unzip the file from the sd card it constantly tells me that the signature verification failed. I cannot get the computer to recognize USB Debugging either. I don't know? Help?! Please?! Anyone?! Thank you!

I feel like a little clarity is needed. Do you actually have CWM installed? Also what rooting method did you use?
You could try toggling signature verification in cwm. It's one of the options

No I don't have CWMR on it. I tried to install it on there with ODIN and it states success and that it has been added, yet when I reboot into recovery it's still in stock recovery mode. I have now tried switching cables and/or usb ports, but that wasn't any help either.........
What are you trying to flash with Odin? What I did was the Sprint method, both times on my personal phones

Same problem here. My fix was once ODIN passed I pulles the battery out of the phone for 5 seconds or so, put the battery back in and then had no problems. Give it a try and let me know if it worked.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
So I finally got it rooted. It was the fact that I had kept "auto reboot" on in ODIN and wasn't pulling the battery. As was explained to me, the phone would install automatic fixes/patches to overwrite what I was trying to do to it. The next problem I faced was that I kept losing CWMR Touch. Finally I figured out how to keep it. You have to erase that backup files and then reboot it. Never gad to do that before.....Everything is working great now. I guess I'll work on S-OFF next. Anyone know of an awesome stable ROM and Kernel combo? I mean the Android stock ROM runs better than anything I've ever installed in the past, but it's hard not to "mod" my phone.

I accidently wipe my phones internal storage including backups, Im running latest TWRP and it wont read my sd card. I have a custom rom on the sd card but i cant access via recovery. phone boots to recovery and even download mode but i dont think my usb debug is checked and i cant get thru with odin. Im crunched for time as my wife is coming home in an hour and she will be furious if i bricked my phone i need help restoring before she gets home. thanks.
Heres how I fixed the problem, it was easy after doing but confusing getting there. Since the phone would not boot past the galaxy s3 screen there was no way for me to select USB debugging. That option totally did not allow me to use the Galaxy S3 toolkit listed in android development nor could I select and run any of their lists of "Root" roms because something would happen where ODIN didnt boot it correctly. It ran it at first then "Boot" came on then "Reset" came on then "Pass" came on but nothing ever took. I went to samsung-updates.com selected the ICS factory rom and saved it to desktop. Then I unzipped that rom to unveil the TAR file and flash that via Odin and Bam it ran thru no problems. The problems I ran into earlier were links from other posts and it turned out they were either bad links or not for the phone. I actually tried one guys download link that claimed to be specifically for the T999 us version and it turned out to be for another phone all together Im just lucky that flash didnt brick my device even more. Anyways Odin was my friend it was just a matter of downloading the "Correct" rom. thanks to all that helped I appreciated you all taking the time to answer.
I would download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682. You should be able to use your PC to flash your Nandroid, although i have never done that.
It doesn't matter if USB debugging is checked if the phone is off.
when i boot to recovery it boots to manual mode anyone know what to do next?
You can flash stuff from your computer in download mode through Odin. I hate doing it myself, but will try to look it up for you

Boot to Recovery and reset factory defaults. That will fix it. It will still "stick" on that screen, but after a couple minutes, it will continue.

I booted to recovery did a factory reset but it still stayed on the samsung galaxy s3 screen for over fifteen minutes now. I even tried the rom toolbox someone suggested earlier but upon flashing a stock rom it prompts me to check usb debugging and I cant get past that screen.
Stock kernel! That should do the trick! Can't believe I forgot about that. Try that and it will boot up fine.

Found a rom and a kernel in the development section and ran it thru odin and it still didnt take. I noticed that the rom flash thru odin only took about two minutes and not once did i see where the modem cycle was being applied. Still no luck for me. Since my phone does not boot pass the galaxy s3 screen is it possible to get the phone to mount via usb cable and copy the roms to internal storage and install via recovery?
Finally got it working again. Thanks to all that helped.

Solution goes as follows;
1)make sure you try every port before freaking haha
2)make sure you use the original PDA from sam updates http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-T999
3) dont be afraid to ask for help haha

ok so last night I decided to try out the encryption option on my t mobile t999 and all went like it was supposed to. It rebooted a couple times like it said it would then when it rebooted to put in pin I entered the pin it started decrypting. I left it for 4 hours well it wouldn't work so I pulled battery and retried and left it go well it hung for hours. I proceeded to try a factory reset and it kept failing at the /data "cannot mount"... I tried wiping the internal SD it too failed. so now im trying to odin the "official stock" image it keeps getting hung at the "NOH-HLOS.bin" for HOURS anyone with anything please help me out
Can you boot into the system at all? If so can you install any apps?
Are you rooted?
If yes to all try Mobile Odin to flash, may be able to work around the problem....im not sure.
Otherwise try using goo or rom manager to install recovery and then flash another rom.
Not sure any of thatll work, just some suggestions.

Hi, I have a SGH-T989D. Today, I edited build.prop to change phone model to S3 (SGH-I747M), in order to watch mobile TV (long story). However, when tried to reboot device, it doesn't start (actually screen just shows logo for a while, and turns to blank). I also have tried to take battery off and turned it again, but it is same situations over and over. Did I brick the phone? Please help. Many thanks!
No it's not bricked try wiping cache and dalvik then reboot. Else flash backup if you have one.

As long as you can make it to the logo you can restart it. Do you have cwm or twrp recovery? If not do know how to get into download mode? What you did is soft bricked your phone. It can be fixed though.

Hi,
The easiest way to fix it is reinstall firmware using odin. Remember after this you need to root the phone again (that's easy)
Download the firmware specific for your device from samMobile. http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3
Flash it using odin. You can find information on how to use odin here on XDA. Just Search for it.
After flashing is done set up the phone and root it again.

Install drivers for phone to computer. Install odin. Then turn on phone power button in and both volume up and down at same time until download mode appears on screen select yes to enter download mode . Hook phone to computer via usb cord. Open odin you should see com7 or whatever port you have it hooked in. Download any sgh-t989 odin zip. Some are gb some are ics etc. Extract the tar file to computer then place it to PDA in odin. Hit start odin should read tar and begin process of installing it to phone. You should see the progress in the top box on left. It should take 5-8 mins approx. Then phone will reboot into new rom. After this unplug phone you should be good to go.

Finally, I brought my phone back. Appreciated all of you help. Now, one more question, if someone can help me out as well: what it is the safe way to modify phone model on build.prop file? I used "ES File Explorer", and ended up with above situation. I just changed ro.product.model. Thanks.
Hello all. I had a rooted S3 which I recently decided to unroot. After unrooting, I noticed I couldn't receive system updates due to my phone being "Modified". I found some file on another forum that stated it would correct this to a "normal" status. I flashed it, and that's where my trouble began. When trying to access my system settings, I get the message "Unfortunately, TouchWiz home has stopped". I've done hours of research to try to resolve this on my own, but no luck. I haven't done a factory reset yet. I'm currently backing up over 1,000 files to Dropbox. Once that's done, I will try it, although I read somewhere that it doesn't work anyway. I can't access anything by connecting my phone to my computer. I've tried two laptops, nothing. I can't get into the settings to change any USB debugging options. If anyone could help, that would be fantastic!
Odin flash the stock firmware and ill bet it fixes the problem....depending on what you flashed. (It won't wipe your data) A link to whatever it was could go a long way in attempting to figure out any other way to fix it..

If it doesn't see it in download mode, try uninstalling all related drivers and kies if you have it. Then reboot and try one if the drivers linked in my sig.

Don't use and dont need pit file.
Find the stock shipped tar file (aka) 4.1.2 Rom
Load in pda leave everything checkedbin odin thats checked.
Rooting isnt hard at all just got my s4 3 hrs ago rooted in 5 minutes soon as I walked in the door.
You need the Root_m919uvuamdl.zip
And then flash MDB setUIDoff .zip

Let me ask you one thing. .. is the com port in odin coming up recognize the phone ...if so you are not bricked. . The two vital things u need to see is com port turn on usually blue color and download mode..
The problem def lies somewhere else possibly bad tar file .
Try to find another source for the stock rom tar file another option is boot into recovery and flash a stock rom if you have recovery still
