[Q] TouchWiz Home Issue - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hello all. I had a rooted S3 which I recently decided to unroot. After unrooting, I noticed I couldn't receive system updates due to my phone being "Modified". I found some file on another forum that stated it would correct this to a "normal" status. I flashed it, and that's where my trouble began. When trying to access my system settings, I get the message "Unfortunately, TouchWiz home has stopped". I've done hours of research to try to resolve this on my own, but no luck. I haven't done a factory reset yet. I'm currently backing up over 1,000 files to Dropbox. Once that's done, I will try it, although I read somewhere that it doesn't work anyway. I can't access anything by connecting my phone to my computer. I've tried two laptops, nothing. I can't get into the settings to change any USB debugging options. If anyone could help, that would be fantastic!

Odin flash the stock firmware and ill bet it fixes the problem....depending on what you flashed. (It won't wipe your data) A link to whatever it was could go a long way in attempting to figure out any other way to fix it..

I wasn't sure if Odin would work if I couldn't get my computer to recognize my phone, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks for your reply.

If it doesn't see it in download mode, try uninstalling all related drivers and kies if you have it. Then reboot and try one if the drivers linked in my sig.

If that all fails and factory resetting doesn't work. Try flashing a stock rom from recovery. This should at least get your on device problems sorted out.

I tried everything. Reinstalled drivers, kies, etc. I can't get my computer to recognize my phone. I tried two different laptops. Not sure what other options I have at this point.

What could be wrong?

Just bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T9999. Now I've been trying to install CWMR and root the dang thing. I have done absolutely everything that the threads on here say to do yet it won't work. I'm kind of at a loss in what to do or try?! When I run it through ODIN it states success but doesn't work. When I try to unzip the file from the sd card it constantly tells me that the signature verification failed. I cannot get the computer to recognize USB Debugging either. I don't know? Help?! Please?! Anyone?! Thank you!

I feel like a little clarity is needed. Do you actually have CWM installed? Also what rooting method did you use?
You could try toggling signature verification in cwm. It's one of the options

No I don't have CWMR on it. I tried to install it on there with ODIN and it states success and that it has been added, yet when I reboot into recovery it's still in stock recovery mode. I have now tried switching cables and/or usb ports, but that wasn't any help either.........
What are you trying to flash with Odin? What I did was the Sprint method, both times on my personal phones

Same problem here. My fix was once ODIN passed I pulles the battery out of the phone for 5 seconds or so, put the battery back in and then had no problems. Give it a try and let me know if it worked.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
So I finally got it rooted. It was the fact that I had kept "auto reboot" on in ODIN and wasn't pulling the battery. As was explained to me, the phone would install automatic fixes/patches to overwrite what I was trying to do to it. The next problem I faced was that I kept losing CWMR Touch. Finally I figured out how to keep it. You have to erase that backup files and then reboot it. Never gad to do that before.....Everything is working great now. I guess I'll work on S-OFF next. Anyone know of an awesome stable ROM and Kernel combo? I mean the Android stock ROM runs better than anything I've ever installed in the past, but it's hard not to "mod" my phone.

PLEASE HELP possibly soft bricked

I accidently wipe my phones internal storage including backups, Im running latest TWRP and it wont read my sd card. I have a custom rom on the sd card but i cant access via recovery. phone boots to recovery and even download mode but i dont think my usb debug is checked and i cant get thru with odin. Im crunched for time as my wife is coming home in an hour and she will be furious if i bricked my phone i need help restoring before she gets home. thanks.
Heres how I fixed the problem, it was easy after doing but confusing getting there. Since the phone would not boot past the galaxy s3 screen there was no way for me to select USB debugging. That option totally did not allow me to use the Galaxy S3 toolkit listed in android development nor could I select and run any of their lists of "Root" roms because something would happen where ODIN didnt boot it correctly. It ran it at first then "Boot" came on then "Reset" came on then "Pass" came on but nothing ever took. I went to samsung-updates.com selected the ICS factory rom and saved it to desktop. Then I unzipped that rom to unveil the TAR file and flash that via Odin and Bam it ran thru no problems. The problems I ran into earlier were links from other posts and it turned out they were either bad links or not for the phone. I actually tried one guys download link that claimed to be specifically for the T999 us version and it turned out to be for another phone all together Im just lucky that flash didnt brick my device even more. Anyways Odin was my friend it was just a matter of downloading the "Correct" rom. thanks to all that helped I appreciated you all taking the time to answer.
I would download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682. You should be able to use your PC to flash your Nandroid, although i have never done that.
It doesn't matter if USB debugging is checked if the phone is off.
when i boot to recovery it boots to manual mode anyone know what to do next?
You can flash stuff from your computer in download mode through Odin. I hate doing it myself, but will try to look it up for you

Boot to Recovery and reset factory defaults. That will fix it. It will still "stick" on that screen, but after a couple minutes, it will continue.

I booted to recovery did a factory reset but it still stayed on the samsung galaxy s3 screen for over fifteen minutes now. I even tried the rom toolbox someone suggested earlier but upon flashing a stock rom it prompts me to check usb debugging and I cant get past that screen.
Stock kernel! That should do the trick! Can't believe I forgot about that. Try that and it will boot up fine.

Found a rom and a kernel in the development section and ran it thru odin and it still didnt take. I noticed that the rom flash thru odin only took about two minutes and not once did i see where the modem cycle was being applied. Still no luck for me. Since my phone does not boot pass the galaxy s3 screen is it possible to get the phone to mount via usb cable and copy the roms to internal storage and install via recovery?
Finally got it working again. Thanks to all that helped.

[Q] How do I COMPLETELY reset my S3?

My S3 is rooted and it has clockwordmodrecovery, and a few mods I installed with CMW (some of which dindnt even work but didnt know how to uninstall) ...I want to do a COMPLETE factory reset which will remove absolutely everything and make my phone as if it just came out of the box
Boot into clockworkmod and wipe data/cash...you will have to manually format your internal storage. I dont belive clockworkmod will erase internal storage.

This will do it for you, you need to have Odin installed it'll replace the recovery and put you at stock rom and all. Scroll down to the Using Odin in the 2nd post. I'm assuming you want the latest which is UVDLJA do not get the Root66 package, get the Official SGH-T999 Firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426424

Thanks to those who have replied, by the way just wanted to let you know that I cant connect my S3 to my computer by USB (Ive tried EVERYTHING to fix this and nothing has worked) which is one of the reasons for the full factory reset, so the Odin thing wont work for me. By what Ive read on the internet up till now I think I can simply choose the "factory reset" option in settings and it should do the job. The reason I made this post is because Im not sure if ClockWorkMod will also get deleted or not since it is actually one of the things used for installing stuff on the phone, and like I said, I want my phone to be COMPLETELY FACTORY RESET, like if it just came out of the box and NOTHING has been installed to it yet
Might want to look into mobile Odin then.

To use Odin you have to plug the phone in while its in download mode.. when you do that it'll install the drivers.

You'll need to use triangle away to reset the flash counter.

I flashed a rom (yes it was for the proper device) and I followed everything step by step. My phone went into a bootloop where it vibrates and the samsung logo pops up then it turns off and starts over again. I turned off the phone and tried to go into recovery mode but it just shows the TWRP screen and then go into the bootloop again. I also tried going into download mode to odin back to stock but my device isn't even recognized even after installing kies. what can i do???
What model device do you have?
What rom did you flash?
What rom did you start with?
Did you recently flash anything else?
What steps did you follow when you flashed?

I have the T-mobile SGH-T999. I was flashing the latest version of universe s4 for the sgh-t999 and i was coming from stockorama_v2, i had not recently flashed anything either. I went into recovery (TWRP), did a factory reset and then flashed universe s4 and got stuck in a bootloop. I've flashed a bunch of times before but never had this happen =/ now my device isn't even recognized even after installing the drivers....

Reinstall the drivers for this device, a simple google can give you following information:
This is a Windows device driver error. As device drivers can be used anytime your computer is trying to use a hardware resource, it can be difficult to tell which process is causing the error. If you notice the error when trying to do a specific task, identifying the source of the problem may be easier. For detail, see error.info/windows/driver-18.html

[Q] Sprint Note 2 softbrick help?

Hello,
I've spent this weekend pouring over google, bing, and all sorts of different forums, and nothing I've tried has fixed the issue.
I've got a Note 2 on Sprint that I've managed to soft-brick. I can boot into download mode, but I can't boot into recovery. When I try to, it stays on the Note 2 splash screen.
I can get Odin to communicate with the phone, and it always fails at the same step: sboot.bin. I've tried several of the custom recoveries, as well as several of the different self-extracting one-click back to stock. Nothing I've tried has worked.
What is the next step that I can try? What other information do you need from me to help troubleshoot this thing?
Thanks!
Have you tried Kies?

I've managed to soft-brick, firm-brick and semi-hard brick my phone and always managed to find a way to resolve it. If Kies can't communicate with the phone to do the firmware recovery then you might need to reinstall the samsung usb drivers. Also does the computer recognize that you connected the isb cable? If so you're still able to recover the phone!

Also try using an older version of Odin to see if it helps along with an older cwm and check to see if it helps as well. If you still cant recover then you might have hard bricked the phone

I had this same issue a few nights ago. I had to try multiple ROMs all downloaded from different places and flash then in Odin until one worked. If you'd like I can post the one that worked for me. The only problem with it is that it messes up your notification toggles, there is only airplane mode and blocking mode. Also every time you rotate the screen (ex. Watching a YouTube video) it force closes the system ui

That would be great if you could. Once I get to a rom I can use, I should be able to get into recovery and flash back to stock.
