My S3 is rooted and it has clockwordmodrecovery, and a few mods I installed with CMW (some of which dindnt even work but didnt know how to uninstall) ...I want to do a COMPLETE factory reset which will remove absolutely everything and make my phone as if it just came out of the box
Boot into clockworkmod and wipe data/cash...you will have to manually format your internal storage. I dont belive clockworkmod will erase internal storage.

This will do it for you, you need to have Odin installed it'll replace the recovery and put you at stock rom and all. Scroll down to the Using Odin in the 2nd post. I'm assuming you want the latest which is UVDLJA do not get the Root66 package, get the Official SGH-T999 Firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426424
and follow directions.

Thanks to those who have replied, by the way just wanted to let you know that I cant connect my S3 to my computer by USB (Ive tried EVERYTHING to fix this and nothing has worked) which is one of the reasons for the full factory reset, so the Odin thing wont work for me. By what Ive read on the internet up till now I think I can simply choose the "factory reset" option in settings and it should do the job. The reason I made this post is because Im not sure if ClockWorkMod will also get deleted or not since it is actually one of the things used for installing stuff on the phone, and like I said, I want my phone to be COMPLETELY FACTORY RESET, like if it just came out of the box and NOTHING has been installed to it yet
Might want to look into mobile Odin then.

To use Odin you have to plug the phone in while its in download mode.. when you do that it'll install the drivers.

I just did a factory reset from settings and it did not delete everything, but at least now I can plug the phone to the computer...so now if I wanna factory reset the phone WITH root, is it ok to choose the Root66 package? is it up to date and everything??
You'll need to use triangle away to reset the flash counter.

My name is Chris and I am a noob
I bought a used Galazy S2 Epic 4G Touch. As it turned out the phone was rooted and was running the Starburst rom. All day today I have spent reading about and trying to put this phone back to the stock firmware from sprint. I have tried the one-click odin installers and tried using odin and loading the PDA manually. Each and eveytime it fails on the recovery.bin. Can someone please help this noob out?
The phone will no longer boot up into the OS and states there was an issue with the firmware. However, I can boot into the download mode and the phone is recognized by odin. I have tried using a different USB cord, different USB ports, different computer running Windows XP....all with no luck. I would greatly appreciate any and all help.
Whenever you interrupt an ODIN flash it will give you that message until you get a clean flash of something. Sometimes you need a USB jig to get back into ODIN D/L mode, but it seems you are saying you already can get there.
Your flash memory is probably defective for the recovery.bin partition. It actually isn't used. Try flashing individually the modem, kernel, and ROM. If you look at the 2nd post of the ODIN One-Click posts, the individual tar files are provided.

If you want you can do a ##786# reset. This will clear your android user data and clear NVRAM. Your phone will reprovision itself at next boot. If the previous owner messed with the NVRAM though it might not always reset properly though.
If your phone is otherwise working now (ie provisioned) then I wouldn't bother clearing NVRAM and instead would just do a wipe data/factory reset from Recovery or do it from Privacy->Reset.
Flash a stock rom with efs clear checked in odin. This will reset the phone and OTA activate. Plus it will reset anything the previous user may have done with the nvram.

I have a similar problem that happens is that when loading the rom with odin this stays in NAD xxxxx or something the CWM me the black screen only buttons are to select the option, but as I say I have no option
someone help me urgently and try heimdall and I have no answer
aid fa..
I accidently wipe my phones internal storage including backups, Im running latest TWRP and it wont read my sd card. I have a custom rom on the sd card but i cant access via recovery. phone boots to recovery and even download mode but i dont think my usb debug is checked and i cant get thru with odin. Im crunched for time as my wife is coming home in an hour and she will be furious if i bricked my phone i need help restoring before she gets home. thanks.
Heres how I fixed the problem, it was easy after doing but confusing getting there. Since the phone would not boot past the galaxy s3 screen there was no way for me to select USB debugging. That option totally did not allow me to use the Galaxy S3 toolkit listed in android development nor could I select and run any of their lists of "Root" roms because something would happen where ODIN didnt boot it correctly. It ran it at first then "Boot" came on then "Reset" came on then "Pass" came on but nothing ever took. I went to samsung-updates.com selected the ICS factory rom and saved it to desktop. Then I unzipped that rom to unveil the TAR file and flash that via Odin and Bam it ran thru no problems. The problems I ran into earlier were links from other posts and it turned out they were either bad links or not for the phone. I actually tried one guys download link that claimed to be specifically for the T999 us version and it turned out to be for another phone all together Im just lucky that flash didnt brick my device even more. Anyways Odin was my friend it was just a matter of downloading the "Correct" rom. thanks to all that helped I appreciated you all taking the time to answer.
I would download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682. You should be able to use your PC to flash your Nandroid, although i have never done that.
It doesn't matter if USB debugging is checked if the phone is off.
when i boot to recovery it boots to manual mode anyone know what to do next?
You can flash stuff from your computer in download mode through Odin. I hate doing it myself, but will try to look it up for you

Found a rom and a kernel in the development section and ran it thru odin and it still didnt take. I noticed that the rom flash thru odin only took about two minutes and not once did i see where the modem cycle was being applied. Still no luck for me. Since my phone does not boot pass the galaxy s3 screen is it possible to get the phone to mount via usb cable and copy the roms to internal storage and install via recovery?
Finally got it working again. Thanks to all that helped.

Much like the others here I rooted my T-mobile galaxy s3. The root worked fine and all. Then I downloaded this font changer app (I forget the name but it required a root) I go on to select a font then I go on to reboot like it said. Then bam, my phone gets stuck on the samsung screen. I then proceeded to use odin to put the stock image back on it (I think that's what it's called) It went through. I also did the factory wipe via the recovery screen. But now my phone would turn on, show "Samsung Galaxy S3," go to a black screen, play the t-mobile jingle, and the only thing that happens is the LED flashes but still nothing on the screen. I've tried virtually everything and I still think there is something else I need to do.
Help please?

The problem is that he may be rooted but doesn't have cwm recovery.
If that's the case then you need to flash cwm recovery first.
I would also try flashing stock rom again or after flashing cwr download nandroid backup of stock rom.

That sounds like a reasonable solution. Can I get a link to the CWM recovery file as well as a guide to it so I don't dig myself into a deeper hole? lol
Actually if you're stock recovery, factory reset should wipe everything. Including internal sd, just so you know.
If that doesn't work it'd probably be cleaner to just odin the root66 fw. But if you prefer the other way, you can find recovery files at the top of post 2 in the fw thread. Root66 is at the top of post 1.
I still need to add a few recoveries so if you don't see one you want let me know.

Hey guys,
Was trying to root my stock T-Mobile Galaxy S3, and everything was going fine but after it rebooted from Odin, the screen stayed black, and only the blue LED was pulsing. I assume it has something to do with my phone being on 4.1.1 and the S3 toolkit not liking that. I tried to flash the stock Rom to get it out of this, but now the same thing is still happening. I have tried multiple cache wipes/factory resets and multiple other stock ROMs. I always without fail get the same thing Samsung splash screen/Blue pulsing LED/start up sound and black screen. I'm getting really frustrated and worried. Can anyone help?

That's actually the exact problem I just solved. You would need Odin 3.04 (well that's what I used) and you need to flash root66 like one of the previous posters here said. It recovered my phone AND rooted it. So try that and tell us what happened.

When I try the root66 it fails in odin. I used the root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA one. First, I had toolkit convert it into a .tar. Then I chose option 8 to flash a stock rom. I skipped ahead to flashing the rom and factory reset like it prompted. Then I tried to flash the .tar and it fails. ..:/. I don't know what else to do.

Actualy I don't use toolkit so I might be wrong, but I don't think you need to convert root66 to tar. Just skip the toolkit. Put your phone into download mode, open odin, connect your phone to pc and flash root66. Check root66 thread for some info about unziping it or converting to anything. All info should be in op. If there is nothing about it then flash it as it is. Make sure that you have phone drivers installed and turn off kies.
I hope it helps.

Did the same thing
I did the same thing. I used the toolkit and was distracted by my son which ended up in me skipping over areas I thought I read and missed the part about JellyBean creating soft-brick.. It did install CWM though . Low and behold, I soft-bricked my phone with the pulsing blue LED from HELL. I kept having issues flashing everything, luckily the toolkit DID install CWM for me which was of no help. When I used Odin 3.0.4 it worked flawlessly with the stock rooted t999 rom which I have attached along with Odin 3.0.4.
Here is how to fix your soft-brick with the black screen and blue LED from hell:
1.) Download files attached and EXTRACT > root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.7z AND Odin_3.0.4_Files.zip
2.) Boot into download updates screen by pressing and holding Home Button, Volume Down Button, and Power Button at same time until you boot into downloading updates screen.
3.) Plug in your phone to your pc
4.) Open Odin 3.0.4 make sure Auto Reboot and F . Reset Time are checked
5.) Click the PDA button at the right, select boot-stock-tmobile-sgh-t999
7.) Click the START button.
8.) Repeat Steps 2-4
9.) Click the PDA button at the right, select root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5
10.) Click the START button and you should see it install things you never saw before like BOOT, SYSTEM, MODEM, etc. (not in that order) at the top left where it shows installation progress (that little green rectangle)
Hey sorry if this is the wrong thread im new to this forum
So today i decided i wanted to root my phone and overclock my s3
im currently using t999v i believe and thought that maybe i could overclock using Siyah Kernel ( so stupid of me )
i found out the hard way that it doesnt work and now my phone loads up the samsung logo and then the samsung galaxy s3 and than a black screen with a blue led.
i can get in to cwm based recovery but when i try to wipe everything and factory reset it just goes back to black screen after the samsung logos.
please dont bash on me as i know this is enough punishment for not reading enough but any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you

ok im going to cut this short i need help im stuck on this "samsung" logo lemme tell you the back story i root it put a rom on it (beanstalk btw) then i decided to go back to stock (dont ask me y i just want to) i used odin and the samsung website to find which version i want i then extract it and everything i used odin 3.07 to work its magic. now im in this samsung screen im waiting 20 minutes for it to pass the "samsung" boot logo yet it doesnt can anyone help me
Try downloading again or using Odin to push custom recovery and flashing a stock based ROM.
Make sure you didn't leave anything checked in Odin you weren't explicitly told to leave checked (I can't remember the exact box I'm thinking of but it has to do with partitions) I lost an admire to a hard brick like that once.

i did try downloading it again and used odin numerous times what do you mean by push custom recovery? but i did flash a stock rom also its the re-partition that you ment to say, i definently left that one closed i didnt leave it checked i cleared my cache and data thinking that the samsung boot wouldve worked but it still didnt
I mean use Odin to put a custom recovery like twrp or cwm on the phone and try flashing a ROM like you did with beanstalk.

but i want to go back to stock idk how doing that will help but ok
It will confirm that the phone isn't hard bricked and allow you to use the phone at least.
From there you can try Mobil Odin on the off chance that its a PC issue.

why is twrp asking me for a password when their is none and when i press cancel and view my file it say my sdcard and ext has 0bytes
Well, that's not good.
Um... I've never had that happen.
But SD and ext showing 0 tells me those partitions were wiped and possibly resized.
I don't know how to rebuild partitions though.
Maybe ask in the twrp thread about the password issue. I've never seen that in 5 years of modding my phones.
The fact that recovery boots at all is promising but I'm not sure if its gonna fix your problem to be honest.

If you can get past the password and get ADB running you may be able to rebuild the partition tables using ADB commands.

but when i go to backup it gives me the mb and everything it doesnt show 0mb
Wait... So you CAN get in to flash a ROM but the recovery isn't seeing the partitions unless you're tying to backup the current ROM?
Do you have a backup already made that you can try restoring?
Also, did you ask about the password issue in the twrp thread?

Um... I don't know for the non LTE s3. The forum has an awesome search function though that should find it for you quickly. I'm on mobile though so its a pain to find and link.

I got it working! ! It's weird I flashed the stock rom with Odin 4 times but when I re flashed it this time it worked. .. weird but it works thanks for your help tho
Sounds like a PC hiccup.
You may want to invest in a new USB cable just incase. I've had issues from my original USB cable where it wouldn't transfer files without corrupting. Drove me crazy until I used my girlfriends without issue.

When ever gojng between tw and cm/aosp roms it will hang at boot unless you factory reset. Glad you got it working!
