I have a A100 which will not turn on, all I get is the power light and when I press the home button it responds sometimes!
I am rooted, unlocked boot loader, etc will this cause any problems if I send it out for repair?

Usually its emmc failure, currently unavoidable however Linux society has taken measure against it in his twrp and his android kernel.

If its in failsafe no they won't know they just replace the board and send it back. If its showing the Acer screen they'll know and probably charge for repair.

Took about 10 days when I sent mine out. Doing ups ground insured was $25 and they paid return. It went over a couple weekends so actual time was 14 days

I'm sending mine out today, it should arrive Wednesday. I'm figuring it will take about 3 weeks turn time. I insured for $250 and with ups ground it was I think $15.00. I believe I over estimated the weight, owe well. Time to pull out my old Lenovo tablet PC.

I have been using my fine since release from Verizon. Most of the time on 4.0.4 deodexed stock w/ FrancoKernel Milestone 4 and Radio I515.09 V.FA02 / I515.FA02.
Phone is in great condition. It was not overheating at the time of shut down.
Randomly the screen went dark with a bunch of lines (acting like it was dying).
It stayed on that frozen line screen until I pulled the battery.
It restarted with the Google logo and just sat there.
Pulled again. Now phone does not charge or turn on trying 3 different batteries.
Took battery and sim out for 10 minutes and still nothing.
I didn't mess with voltage or overclock or anything like that.
---
Should I send it in for warranty claim? I'm afraid they will get it working and see my rooted phone with private information and a ROM that allows tethering.

Yeah if it doesn't turn on no matter what you've tried, it's most likely an unrecoverable brick. I've had it happen to me on an HTC phone randomly and it sucked. Aside from what you've already tried, I'd say maybe leave the battery in, plug the phone into the charger and wait for a bit and see if anything happens. Other than that you're SOL.
I also highly doubt that Verizon will be able to coax the phone back to life if it's a hardware fault.
damn. thanks.
I had a Bionic do that, it seemed like it just shorted out one night. I went to a Verizon store and tried different batteries and such in it with no luck. Probably just a hardware defect of some sort.
Mine did the same just the other day. Same exact way you described it for me. I tried to revive it using ODIN and OMAP Flash but it gets stuck at writing to the NAND then fails. I actually searched the forum and it seems to have happened quite a lot. I'm guessing its a hardware defect that some of the Nexus have just like how it was on the first batch of Galaxy S i9000M phones. (I know because mine corrupted twice and Samsung refused to fix it the second time.) Some threads and even Chainfire's Nexus killed itself it seems:

With that said, there might be one last thing you can do which is the OMAP flash JTAG via USB if you haven't tried it yet:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f63...-i9100g-via-usb-cable-freeeeeeeeeeee-1465412/
This will try to flash a bootloader for you where in you can access fastboot, etc. If you can access Download Mode, you can try to use ODIN to bring it back as well.
If ODIN or OMAP Flash fails to write to the NAND then its hardware issue and needs to be replaced. Hope you have warranty still.
Thanks Dawg. Nothing worked.
VZW tech support didn't even ask one question and sent me a new phone which arrives today. It must be common.
Loved my phone setup too.
I have to start backing everything up to my PC. I had a feeling not having an SD card would burn me.
Not by choice...my S2's power button is sticking when I press down on it and even with a small tap (without actually pushing down), it will bring up the power menu and such. It's causing complete havoc and keeps putting me into a Sleep of Death. I've tried ODINing and everything back to stock but it's definitely a hardware malfeasance. I still have my warranty so my next step will be sending it in for a replacement.
Until then I'm on the Samsung Captivate. UGH lol...if any of you ever had it, it's soo difficult to adapt to after having a Vibrant/TMo S2. So much ODINing and flashing of CWM and kernels JUST to get to CM10. I've been in a recovery boot loop for the last 2 hours and finally got it right (I'm not even sure how lol). Anyways this is the end of my rant/venting.
Hope you have a good night and a great next day.

http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-t-mobile-power-button-repair/
I had the same problem with my T989D (Telus Hercules). I was four days outside my warranty, but Samsung was kind enough to authorize a warranty repair.
I thought they were going to replace the button, instead they replaced the entire PBA/Mainboard.
The notes indicate: PBA REMPLACE - PAS D'ALIMENTATION (PBA replaced - no power)
So new button, mainboard, and connector for the usb at the bottom, everything works beautifully, couldn't be happier.

I was thinking about calling Acer to fix my Iconia A100 as I still have it in the 1 year warranty time span. But my question is do I have to pay for shipping or is that included? I was also wondering if they are going to fix it or send me a whole different refurbished one? I have a scratch on my screen and would like that to get fixed as well, and I have touchscreen problems were it doesn't get recognized sometimes like if I am in a drawing app. So if they don't replace it but fix the screen, you think they are going to put in a whole new screen and my scratch will not be there?
You pay shipping to them only, I don't know if its refurbished or not. Mine came back with a few scratches on the back casing. I am not going to fight them over that. They replaced the mainboard and display which for a no boot issue I'm not sure why the display. Whole process was about 14 days including weekends.

It stands to reason they could just reimage the EMMC and slap it into another refurb unit and send it out working as normal. It may even prevent the EMMC bricking from occuring again. Seeing as they replace the board vs reimaging it, it's doubtful that anything is done with the bricked boards. As far as the "new" motherboards, no, the EMMC is the same as before. Mine even came back on HC, spamming the update to ICS. The "fix" is already implemented into godmachine's kernel and twrp recovery kernel. AFAIK there hasn't been a brick since the MEM_CAP_ERASE was removed from the kernels. I implemented it into my kernels for the Thrive even though they aren't prone to it, better safe then sorry. SO, unless Acer has released an update to ICS that patches the kernel (or something else maybe, like the board's EMMC firmware) I have to say speculate NO, they have not fixed the random brick issue.
when i got mine back i had a nice new scratch on my screen protector. Glad i have it and it had a new boot screen that had 2 acer logo's in the upper third of the screen.
So if I tell them that I got problems with my touch screen, you guys don't think they will actually replace my touch screen? Cause I really want to get rid of this scratch.

They replace whatever the reason its being accepted for repair. If its going in for touch screen issues then they'll likely replace it. If its going in for a brick then no, unless its also known to them. If its just because of a scratch then no you'll need to pay for it.

Also, if you did it through the app, I've heard a lot of reports lately of people bootlooping after updating their recovery.
So if you can get it recognized in ODIN, flash a recovery through that and then see if you can get into it
I think i did the same. i was installing liquidsmooth for the S3 and went to reboot it and bam! bricked. i realized i did not do a wipe i just did an install on top of the rom. I have since then tried all button combos but no luck. I have installed odin and seems like when i plug in the phone to the computer and hold VOL UP+home+power my PC recognizes it but i dont think odin does. So I plan on going and buying one off craigslist and activating it in the morning if i cant do anything by then.

FYI if you had a hard brick call Samsung and tell them it just stopped working and they will send you a box pre paid to send your phone in and a refurbished phone for your replacement. I end up getting a new phone as a replacement as I bricked mine a few weeks after the phone can out. I did this three times and the last time got a refurbished one. You don't pay nothing and the phone come in about a week the only thing that stuck is you have to setup your phone all over again. There really nice on the phone and didn't ask me about flashing or rooting my phone they just tried to have me trouble shoot the phone which I couldn't. Oh one thing our phone I's covered for one year manufacture warranty that has nothing to do with the carrier.

Whether or not they do replace it is irrelevant. When you decided to root your phone, you voided any and all claims on your warranty (which covers manufacturers defects only). If all of the people who hard-brick their phones claim it on the sprint warranty, you'll see a drastic increase in one (or all) of the following:
Phone Costs
Plan pricing
TEP Costs
"Premium Data" charges
By "claiming ignorance," you are willfully misrepresenting your situation to Sprint, with the intent to deceive Sprint so that they may pay for your mistake. This, by definition, is fraud. Now, you probably won't be sitting in front of a Grand Jury because of one (or three) replaced phones, but it honestly speaks volumes to your moral character if you see no problem with this.
What you're doing is passing the buck on your mistake off to Sprint. Sprint, in turn, will pass that cost onto us. Please don't recommend this course of action again.

I'll leave it at that for now. I raged at their chat for about 30 minutes before I got offered 2 more options.
I had HTC repair my camera and not only did they expedite shipping (standard overnight) the camera looks great now when taking pics, The phone looks perfect just like I sent it in. Looks brand new. The actually changed the motherboard and put a new sticker with all the new info on it.
I called them, ask if they could do something more than standard ground and had a prepaid label in my email about an hour later. I brought the phone to fedex saturday morning, it shipped to htc by monday morning 9:30am and was showing in repair at 11am then an email around 5pm that it was done and setup for fedex pickup. Received it at 230pm today.
I think their service and repair was outstanding.
I've been waiting to send my M7 in for this camera issue but now that I've picked up the M8 I was thinking about just selling it as is. It's rooted unlocked with s off.
So I did some Googling in order to get an answer as to whether I can send my phone in for this fix without getting it back unrooted/S-On.
From what I've read it seems to be hit or miss.
Anyone reading this sent one in that was S-Off, only to have it come back stock/S-On?

From what I've read it seems to be hit or miss.
Anyone reading this sent one in that was S-Off, only to have it come back stock/S-On?

If you send it S-OFF, technically you are breaking the warranty. And that would REALLY suck for you, cause you would be without a phone for about 2 weeks and it would come back in the same condition, AND you wouldn't be able to fix it anymore afterwards. So you kinda gave birth to 3 birds with one womb.
I S-ON'ed mine when I sent it in, and luckily since this was within a week or 2 of 4.4.2 coming out, they only flashed 4.2.2 (I think. This was like 8 months ago. Whichever version is currently rootable). I would suspect that now, your phone would come with 4.4.2 + Sense 6.0, which is not rootable.
I'm considering flashing a stock rom, then doing a faux h-boot that indicates s-on and removes the unlock/development red text from the startup image.
I just worry that they might have a flash stock rom/recovery step that they do regardless of what is on the phones that get which would lock me up with an unrooted phone once I got it back.
