Hey guys, one of the main issues i'm having on CM9.1, and any version of CM9 that i've installed, is that I can't get NFC enabled/working. In settings, the NFC option has a checkmark but is greyed out. I reinstalled CM9.1 after doing factory reset, wiping cache, all that fun stuff. Still its showing greyed out. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? Any help is appreciated

I'm having the same problem and I've
tried the same solutions...
othing via search and nothing helpful via Google search.
Unfortunately, it also drains 30% of my battery (total from 100% to 1%) more than Pandora over 2g .
I've also tried several radios (all rils removed) but none of that helped.
So does anyone have a solution? I also have this problem.
No still no dice... I even reverted to full stock and followed the directions on the cm9 wiki using heimdall (as opposed to Odin) and even that didn't work. Reflashing my stock backup it works so my guess is its directly related to CM...
I'm going to try to find the directory that enabled/disabled is in so that I can at least turn it off properly but I don't expect to find it anytime soon...
On a side note it doesn't seem to have been reported in the official cm9 error area someone might consider doing that... lol

I have the opposite issue. NFC is checked and blue but when I go to turn it off, it grays out. When I go back into settings to see if it sticks, it's activated again. I don't know if it really is on or not, but that's kind of annoying.
Cm9.1 here and no nfc problems. Specifically it being greyed-out before or after checking/unchecking. I have not however used nfc to confirm it works. Here's some pics

Awesome... glad someone has it working. Can you confirm the steps you used to install it and the radio your using (Those should be the only differences)
::edit::
That I'm aware of, I believe cm uses their own RIL and Kernel, which should be the only other problem unless there are different battery versions (The nfc chip is in the battery)
But please, please correct me if I'm wrong because I want this to work

Well there is an app in the system app folder and it's called nfc.apk. I renamed it, rebooted, and the option is gone so is the battery drain. Mission successful.

Has anyone located a solution to this yet (beyond just eliminating the option altogether)? I'd like to get it to work.

It works for me on cm10, not sure on 9 but I would assume that they should have merged whatever fixed it with 9. Sorry bro.

Kill the program. If you leave GPS on and that program runs it will suck battery like no other. Axe GPS and the program and it should go down.
If it doesn't, try reflashing the ROM after clearing everything...this might have also caused some problems
So i turned off gps and force closed maps.... still at 92%. I never had this problem with maps using myn's until maps v5.0.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ALSO, I turned off background data and force closed maps again, still at 82 percent of battery usage. I am just going to revert to an older version of maps. I feel like someone on here knows the answer and just isn't saying. I used to get 30+ hours on a battery charge, and that number has been cut in half now.

Yeah...people are going to this thread, reading about your issue and thinking to themselves, Hey, I know how to fix it but I don't think I will post my fix because _______.
Fill in the blank?
Yeah, well, that was a joke. But the problem remains. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this.
I was having the same issue too. I used it as an opportunity to try out a new ROM (CM 6.1.1), and have not had the problem with the new maps since.

I was thinking the same thing.... maybe the newest fresh, maybe CM. You've convinced me.
I just wanted to say that this is happening to me to. HTC EVO running the most recent official software. I was sent over here by a user on another message board, and there's at least 2 or 3 other posters who are having the problem.
I uninstalled the update, and went back to the version that the phone shipped with and it fixed the problem. Reinstalled 5.0 and there was no problem UNTIL I ran navigation in maps. Now it's doing the same thing again.
i have the same problem to on my HTC wildfire running on the most update official software. i tried reinstalling v5 but that didnt work for more then 3 houres. So now i deinstalled the updates and it works fine again.
anyone a better solution?
Dude, I had this EXACT same problem. Trust me, it's not Maps draining your battery. For some reason, it lists the last app used and puts it there. Later on, it will be Android System. I was scrambling. Killed the program, turned off auto sync, mobile data, etc. Nothing worked. Using the same rom and all.
Found out, my PRI and radios were not compatible with my build. Are you on 3.3? And using 1.9 PRI. It needs to be 1.7.
Check this out and see if that's the issue. If it is, fix that and you will be back to normal. Switching to CM really didn't fix your issue, just their rom with your build is compatible with those radios and PRI.

I have the very same problem. I haven't exactly solved it but Quickboot sure helped. Maps 5 is seriously flawed though. Even after GPS is off it still hogs the battery, ridiculous.

I have no idea what radio and PRI do, and where to find which i have. Can u explain where to find some info and where i can see which i have in my phone?

While I was creating a way to port Zefei's CM7 to the Optimus V with working MMS, I guess I accidentally created a way to port a different Gingerbread Rom as well. The MMS works on this port! Thanks to Raul720 for figuring this out.
Boot into your recovery and do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Next flash these in the following order:
1. [ROM][WIP] Unofficial CM7 (Gingerbread)
Direct link to rom:
07/15/2011
2. gapps
3. Sprint-to-OV_ath3nos_signed.zip (updated 7/15/2011)
4. ath3nos_bloat_remover.zip Optional (updated 7/15/2011)
Removes: some ring tones, support for non-English languages, bootanimation, some themes, and other stuff that most people don't use.
This only increases space in the system partition.

Known Issues:
No voice search button for now. I remapped it to the power button.
160+ character SMS auto split doesn't work like it is supposed to. See below for a work around.
TIPS, TRICKS, AND FIXES:
1) Voicemail - Go to Settings/Call Settings/Voicemail Settings and change "*86" to YOUR phone number. You can now hold 1 to check voicemail in the dialer.
2) Proximity Sensor - Go to Settings/Call Settings and check "Always use proximity" to fix proximity sensor during calls.
3) Electron Beam - Open Settings/CyanogenMod Settings/Display and Check both Screen Animation boxes.
4) Split SMS - Open Messaging, Push Menu button, Select Settings, Check "SMS split" and "Split counter" to auto-split messages over 160 characters.
5) Battery Percentage - Go to Settings/CyanogenMod Settings/Interface/Status bar tweaks, you can check "Battery Percentage" to enable battery percentage in the status bar.
6) Front Key Wake - Flash this from recovery if you want all the front keys to wake the phone: Optimus_V_Key_Swap_signed.zip
7) Wrong Timezone - Settings > Date and time > Uncheck automatic. Then select the proper timezone. Finally, recheck automatic, and it should be fixed. (Thanks Eollie!)

Cool! Interested to see how this runs compared to Aosp's version. I love his rom but it still needs quite a bit of polish for me.
we've had some good discussion at another forum as well, but let me be the first in this forum to say thanks and great job!
i've been running this for a day now and it runs very smooth. the camera is fully functional as well. i've noticed that my battery life has been better than when on AOSP, though i'm not sure if it's ROM related. it's always hard to tell with battery life.
one thing i should mention is that after flashing the ROM, when you go under "About Phone" in settings, it will still say AOSP.
So far, and IDK if this is really a bug on your end but my Voice dialing button doesn't work.

I fixed that with the latest sprint-to-ov swap this morning. You can flash it over what you have now with no adverse effects. The only difference is the build.prop and the key swap is included.

That is a bug in the original rom. I updated the Sprint-to-OV file to map that button the to power button until it is fixed in the rom.
Or (and I know this is a radical idea) you could compile the source for the Optimus V and get working key mappings and the 'aosp' kernel without any additional work.
If you're getting better battery life, it may be due to using Zefie's kernel (which you get when you configure for the OS) vs the 'aosp' kernel (which you get when you build it for the OV).
What recovery would you use with this rom. Not sure.

I have this version which I can't seem to find as a SBF anywhere on the internet
Version.34.0.179.MB525.T-mobile.en.US
android 2.2.2
baseband EPU93_U_00.58.00
So how will I back up this ROM as a SBF before going to CyanogenMod?
Can I install nordic on top of this?
You don't have to worry about using the american sbf... The nordic will work fine... Just make sure you use the base band switcher to apply an american base band when you are finally in cm7.
I wouldn't bother making a recovery of your system now...
When you get into
Cm7rc1v2, you will love it..
Go ahead and flash the nordic, root with soc, and use second init to boot into recovery, so you can install cm7rc1v2.
It's all up on that first post.. Good luck

I heard someone say to do that about the camera, maybe it will work with the gps...

You should shoot for clear sky view, and depending on your location, it may take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to get locked..

I am now seeing 1 or 2 satellites at most. Could it be that I have faulty hardware?
Possibly...
I suppose it acts flaky in stock 2.2 also?
Btw, what are you using to get how many satellites you are locked on?
Edit:
Nevins.. I got something called gps status and test.. I'll tinker with that and see what I get as normal
Triple edit
Okay, I had about seven satellites after about five minutes of playing around.
You may just have a tough time in your area locking on?.?.

I've only recently started to have these orange boxes highlight everything all throughout the UI. It is so ****ing annoying!! I don't know if I messed with a setting of some kind or if it's an app that's causing it but I want it off! I've searched the web for an answer to no avail. Does anyone have a solution to this?

Using a kernel with an overclocked GPU? They can tend to cause screen artifacts if your device can't handle the increased clock speed

Are you on the stock rom unrooted?
If not Id suggest backing a backup with CWM, perform a full wipe. If that fixes it then it could be a third-party app causing it.

To be sure it all wipes ok, connect to fastboot and type: "fastboot erase userdata"
That will erase ALL data, even the internal "sd-card". I remember a user here had a really painful bug where his home button wouldn't work and there was no lockscreen and that was all solved by erasing userdata through fastboot.
Does anyone use Pulse? I have nearly reinstalled all of my apps and I don't see the boxes.

good luck with it though...that would be really annoying.
having the same issue here as the OP. It doesn't seem to be Nexus specific, I have a Galaxy S3 (i9300T) running ICS 4.0.4.
I have rooted (cf-root) the phone and am running Siyah kernel. Have gone through every single setting I can find in Android & browser, have also uninstalled all the 3rd party Apps without any resolution.
It seems that the orange box surrounds the first submit/input field and affects anything text based - my default browser, chrome, facebook app, etc...I've just realised now I can also have multiple boxes on each screen if i've visited the link.
I got really frustrated because this 'orange box' left me in a google account login loop whenever I try to use the browser to search google.com. As google account is the first link on the mobile page. It's reaaaaally frustrating!
Will have to wipe and reinstall again but hopefully this is of some help to others.

Thank god for you guys! I've had this issue on my RAZR for a while now, but just now got around to looking this up..I kind of panicked when I didn't see the "Enhanced web accessibility" option - but there's an "Install web scripts" option and that was it...thanks!
So my NFC hasn't worked since the first day I had the phone. I played around with Touchwiz and thought it was quaint and funny, but not for me. So I tried out AOKP and CM9 nightlies of ICS, which were pretty stellar, despite dealing with the camera issues that have since been resolved. Then I switched to the CM10 Preview Builds, and while I absolutely love it, I really miss the android beam/NFC party tricks that my galaxy nexus and nexus s friends and I would play to entertain the ladies.
In all seriousness. NFC has only worked for me on Stock, Stock Rooted, DietICS, and the only other Stock or Stock-based ROMs I have flashed. I have installed and reinstalled AOKP or CM9 and CM10 several times, doing full wipes all around, and my problem is:
On AOSP built or based-from ROMS, the option to tick the NFC box results in it blacking until I restart the phone. It never activates. Ever. I've held that thing up to my Nexus 7 corner trying to see if it maybe is activated but just not allowing me to unactivate -- that is NOT the case.
Anybody got any clues or ideas as to what might be going on here? If I nandroid back to one of the backups of the other stock-based ROMs, NFC works, as it does if I then wipe and flash a different stock-based one.
A friend of mine (with a White Bell SGS3 [mine's black and the Rogers version]) just had me root/unlock/flash a JB rom onto his phone, and his NFC works. I felt incredibly left out.
Any advice would be appreciated. Legacy drivers or libs from the Samsung distribution? A carefully tweaked SQL DB? Anything, anybody? NFC isn't faulty, and wouldn't qualify for a warranty exchange since it does work on the original unrooted stock nandroid that I did before moving on to a Touchwizless life.
look at this thread
yeah. I checked that out, but though it works for sgs2, it didn't work for me. Currently I'm trying to copy over some of the old nfc-related libs and files from a stock-based rom and seeing if that'll do the trick...
I'm using CMX. No problems with NFC. See if you can get your hands on a different battery with NFC. Make sure your stuff isn't bad.

I have the exact same problem as the OP using CM10 from day one. When I went back to Sammy stock NFC worked. I don't use NFC so I chose to stick with CM10. My friends NFC on his SGS3 works fine running CM10. I tried switching battery's with him for a test and it was still a no go. I'm not sure what is going on but at least now I know it isn't just me. Hopefully somebody does figure it out at some point.
Here is how the option looks after I enable it. It remains checked but darkened out and does not work. After rebooting the phone it is not checked any more.

Same problem. has someone solved this?
thanks
Bump. I'm not sure why this is not happening to everyone. I know four other people who have the s3 and I'm the only one with this issue. I just don't get it.

I have had zero issues with nfc, whether on stovk ICS, cm10, or stock jb. I always reset google wallet from the app settings before flashing a new rom or nightly.

I installed slimrom 4.2.1 and my NFC is now working. Not sure if it is 4.2.1 or slimrom that fixed it but it now works.
