I've only recently started to have these orange boxes highlight everything all throughout the UI. It is so ****ing annoying!! I don't know if I messed with a setting of some kind or if it's an app that's causing it but I want it off! I've searched the web for an answer to no avail. Does anyone have a solution to this?
Edit: I have uploaded a screenshot for those who do not know what I'm talking about.

It'll help if you tell us what apps are affected. I've never seen any orange stuff on my nexus.
Its not a show touch setting in dev options is it?

That was my first thought aswell
It is not on. It affects the browser, Wikipedia, Pulse, Facebook. I'm thinking any app that is text based.

Using a kernel with an overclocked GPU? They can tend to cause screen artifacts if your device can't handle the increased clock speed

Are you on the stock rom unrooted?
If not Id suggest backing a backup with CWM, perform a full wipe. If that fixes it then it could be a third-party app causing it.
I'm rooted stock. I will try wiping.

To be sure it all wipes ok, connect to fastboot and type: "fastboot erase userdata"
That will erase ALL data, even the internal "sd-card". I remember a user here had a really painful bug where his home button wouldn't work and there was no lockscreen and that was all solved by erasing userdata through fastboot.
Does anyone use Pulse? I have nearly reinstalled all of my apps and I don't see the boxes.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Pulse user here. Never had problems with it. Also first time seeing boxes like the one you have. I even have restored my feeds several time due to multiple rom flashing.
also a pulse user....never had any problems like this...and i haven't ever seen a problem like this.
good luck with it though...that would be really annoying.
having the same issue here as the OP. It doesn't seem to be Nexus specific, I have a Galaxy S3 (i9300T) running ICS 4.0.4.
I have rooted (cf-root) the phone and am running Siyah kernel. Have gone through every single setting I can find in Android & browser, have also uninstalled all the 3rd party Apps without any resolution.
It seems that the orange box surrounds the first submit/input field and affects anything text based - my default browser, chrome, facebook app, etc...I've just realised now I can also have multiple boxes on each screen if i've visited the link.
I got really frustrated because this 'orange box' left me in a google account login loop whenever I try to use the browser to search google.com. As google account is the first link on the mobile page. It's reaaaaally frustrating!
Will have to wipe and reinstall again but hopefully this is of some help to others.

Thank god for you guys! I've had this issue on my RAZR for a while now, but just now got around to looking this up..I kind of panicked when I didn't see the "Enhanced web accessibility" option - but there's an "Install web scripts" option and that was it...thanks!

When I get a text message I get this notification in my drop down bar that when i tap on just takes me to handcent, but it won't go away without me hitting clear in the drop down bar. it isn't the handcent notifier either. i don't think it is the regular messaging.app notification either as it wouldn't open handcent and it'd go away when I tap it. Yeah when I first installed. I can't even find the messaging app in my app drawer now. This has to be some sort of other notification because like I said it sends me to handcent and will not go away without tapping clear.
I'm really hoping someone here will be able to help me with this. It is annoying beyond belief I even had to disable my handcent notifications to stop the double notifications. I can't even check the default messaging app because it seems to not be here anymore, i don't even see it in system/app(s)
thanks guys
Edit: Incase you have signatures off I am running Cyanogen 6.1
Edit 2: Found messaging. Forgot I had it hidden with launcher pro. Notifications are definitely disabled on it too.
Update on this: I've went through every recently installed program and can find NOTHING that indicates some sort of notification. This is *really* bothering me because if I just reinstall CM6 I can't do a full system + data restore with titanium pro because i'll just be in the same boat.
I had this same issue with Handcent, and uninstalled it. Never knew why it would do that, so I turned to chompSMS. No issue since.

So I restored to the 21st (2 days before it started happening) and picked just a select few apps to restore, without data and solve it. I guess my only option now is going to be to do a wipe and fresh install, but I just don't feel like doing that right now. Really wish someone would figure out an easier way to do this
Edit: Guess i'm going to go ahead and wipe and reflash. Will let you know the results.

Ah okay. I don't think it was an app honestly. My belief is that it was some sort of corrupted data file. After I wiped and did a fresh install and redownloaded all of my apps from the market it works just fine.
I am using Galaxy Nexus and overall, I am quite satisfied with Jelly Bean. I have been using Android since Android 2.1, and there is one thing that annoys me ever since (actually there are other things, but the most annoying).
Like many of you, I used iOS before using Android. On iOS, you can delete an app by long pressing and pressing the x button. Back then it asked for rating (now it is gone), but it only asks one confirmation. I used to think it was annoying but came to Android, I found on Android it is just pain in the ass to delete apps.
Why the hell should I click the OK button of a modal dialogue that just says "Uninstall is finished."? On my GN, to delete an app, I need to go to the app drawer, long press the icon then drag it all the way up to the uninstall icon on the top of the screen. Surely no sane person do that cumbersome action by accident, yet it still asks me if I really want to uninstall the app. There is no way to turn off this confirmation. Uninstall is not done on the background when it can be, since there is nothing the user can do about the uninstallation process. There is no other option, no progress details, just bar animation. Yet, the uninstallation screen blocks the screen and and most of all, you have to press OK when it is done. I cannot find any justification for this. It could be just a notification message, at least.
Now, suppose you have downloaded multiple apps just to find out a best one. Deleting ,say, 10 apps with this procedure is really pain in the ass and time-consuming. I think there should be a method to uninstall multiple apps at once, and the confirmation should be able to turned off by the user's preferences.
So, what do you think about this? Do you like the way of deleting apps that Android provides? I would like to hear your opinions.
Lol

I hear and feel you man. For that, i have a solution/method to avoid being annoyed by the confirmation after deleting an app.
How To delete a batch of apps without having to press ok.
1.download titanium backup/pro
2.choose batch option ->uninstall -> tick all the apps you want to delete -> run
3. The apps will take care of it in seconds, and the best news is....you dont have to press ok for the confirmation.
3 simple steps to make our life easier. I hope this helps you like it helps me...

It looks like you never used an old pc or phone.... that it takes a lot of time to just open some text.
Honestly how many times do you install then uninstall apps. Yes it could be annoying to you sometimes but that's doesnt really justify hating android. Anyway you're entitled to your opinion.

If I were you. I would just use adb to delete multiple files. It's much easier and faster.
I am unable to care about the subject mentioned, as such I am typing a mildly sarcastic reply.
The "I have finished" Dialog could do with going away, but to be honest I don't uninstall apps enough to care.
I do miss the list of app that I have paid for but don't have installed though

Not that I care much personally. Like many others I use an app to handle uninstalling. But the OP does have a point. The confirmation step in the end is meaningless. Removing it would be an improvement. I welcome all improvements, no matter how small they are.
Hey guys, one of the main issues i'm having on CM9.1, and any version of CM9 that i've installed, is that I can't get NFC enabled/working. In settings, the NFC option has a checkmark but is greyed out. I reinstalled CM9.1 after doing factory reset, wiping cache, all that fun stuff. Still its showing greyed out. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? Any help is appreciated

I'm having the same problem and I've
tried the same solutions...
othing via search and nothing helpful via Google search.
Unfortunately, it also drains 30% of my battery (total from 100% to 1%) more than Pandora over 2g .
I've also tried several radios (all rils removed) but none of that helped.
So does anyone have a solution? I also have this problem.
No still no dice... I even reverted to full stock and followed the directions on the cm9 wiki using heimdall (as opposed to Odin) and even that didn't work. Reflashing my stock backup it works so my guess is its directly related to CM...
I'm going to try to find the directory that enabled/disabled is in so that I can at least turn it off properly but I don't expect to find it anytime soon...
On a side note it doesn't seem to have been reported in the official cm9 error area someone might consider doing that... lol

I have the opposite issue. NFC is checked and blue but when I go to turn it off, it grays out. When I go back into settings to see if it sticks, it's activated again. I don't know if it really is on or not, but that's kind of annoying.
Cm9.1 here and no nfc problems. Specifically it being greyed-out before or after checking/unchecking. I have not however used nfc to confirm it works. Here's some pics

Awesome... glad someone has it working. Can you confirm the steps you used to install it and the radio your using (Those should be the only differences)
::edit::
That I'm aware of, I believe cm uses their own RIL and Kernel, which should be the only other problem unless there are different battery versions (The nfc chip is in the battery)
But please, please correct me if I'm wrong because I want this to work

Well there is an app in the system app folder and it's called nfc.apk. I renamed it, rebooted, and the option is gone so is the battery drain. Mission successful.

I can't believe I am actually asking this as a question. But I was neither capable to remove some 3rd party lockscreen from my gf's entirely stock SGN (rom-wise), nor did I manage to google for help.
Tried Go Locker and LockBot. I can choose a different Lockscreen but this new fella is now before the one I try to get rid off. So we actually have 2 lockscreens now. The 2nd one is easy to switch back off but the one below stays right where it is.
Here's what it looks like:

}
Also, you can set the phone to lock pattern. Works fine except for the lockscreen that again succeeds all other lockscreens. It's always the last barrier before you can use the phone.
Please be so kind and let me know where else to look for turning it off
The lock screen app your using, need to be deactivated... if that cannot happen, go to settings----applications---find that app----open it-----and press clear defaults-----bang problem solved

Thanks for the reply. My girlfriend says she never installed a lock screen app (intentionally). I was suspecting the range of Go products but uninstalling most of them (after going through all of their settings) didn't help either.
The question is what app might have caused it. And why isn't there an app that lets you default to stock? That's why I installes Go Locker and LockBot in the first place.
Actually this is quite a tragic flaw in Android. My gf totally diggs her shiny new SGN but is totally pissed by this lock screen. She never wanted it. She hates it. Now she starts hating the phone. She said she wanted a replacement...

Holy crap, dude! You nailed it. Rogue app called "Simply Locks". Is the on-phone search still disabled? because I used it to search for "lock" but it did not find Simply Locks.
Anyways, you guys made a little girl smile big time again.

First I noticed that my email icon says I have 205 emails, no matter what. I also noticed that my voicemail icon doesnt like to clear. All my ringtones were set back to default even my email and text. Even after resetting my email ringtone it still wont sound. My multi-window kept opening every time I hit the back button even though I had made it stay closed by pressing and holding the back button. I had to restart my phone for that to work correctly. While this was going on, my phones battery was really bad for 2 days. I didnt even use it, it was connected to wifi and the battery drained by 8 pm, with no use. Its 10:45 here right now and I have 80%, which is good. I noticed the screen flickers with white sometimes too when I hit the home key. I am getting really tired of my phone not working. There was another thing that wasnt working correctly but I forgot what it was, a restart fixed it though. Anyone else having problems? what should I do? I know it isnt much but I like my stuff to work correctly. I Am stock rooted. I am not on lk8.

Sounds like something is borked from a bad download or flash. I would reset to rule out the normal issues. With all the sms and app backup programs out there you don't stand to lose much, if anything, by reflashing the rom.
Why the hesitation?
Rooting can be great but typically is to install a program (feature) or rom that didn't come stock. If you're doing this and can't afford to reset if a conflict comes up then it generally its a good idea to stay 100% stock and let sprint fix your issues [which they typically do with a reset]
If you decide to reset try sms backup, and an app backup program like titanium or app backup and restore.
Good luck!
