What I hate about Android! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am using Galaxy Nexus and overall, I am quite satisfied with Jelly Bean. I have been using Android since Android 2.1, and there is one thing that annoys me ever since (actually there are other things, but the most annoying).
Like many of you, I used iOS before using Android. On iOS, you can delete an app by long pressing and pressing the x button. Back then it asked for rating (now it is gone), but it only asks one confirmation. I used to think it was annoying but came to Android, I found on Android it is just pain in the ass to delete apps.
Why the hell should I click the OK button of a modal dialogue that just says "Uninstall is finished."? On my GN, to delete an app, I need to go to the app drawer, long press the icon then drag it all the way up to the uninstall icon on the top of the screen. Surely no sane person do that cumbersome action by accident, yet it still asks me if I really want to uninstall the app. There is no way to turn off this confirmation. Uninstall is not done on the background when it can be, since there is nothing the user can do about the uninstallation process. There is no other option, no progress details, just bar animation. Yet, the uninstallation screen blocks the screen and and most of all, you have to press OK when it is done. I cannot find any justification for this. It could be just a notification message, at least.
Now, suppose you have downloaded multiple apps just to find out a best one. Deleting ,say, 10 apps with this procedure is really pain in the ass and time-consuming. I think there should be a method to uninstall multiple apps at once, and the confirmation should be able to turned off by the user's preferences.
So, what do you think about this? Do you like the way of deleting apps that Android provides? I would like to hear your opinions.

Lol

I hear and feel you man. For that, i have a solution/method to avoid being annoyed by the confirmation after deleting an app.
How To delete a batch of apps without having to press ok.
1.download titanium backup/pro
2.choose batch option ->uninstall -> tick all the apps you want to delete -> run
3. The apps will take care of it in seconds, and the best news is....you dont have to press ok for the confirmation.
3 simple steps to make our life easier. I hope this helps you like it helps me...

I'm totaly agree with this.
It looks like you never used an old pc or phone.... that it takes a lot of time to just open some text.

Honestly how many times do you install then uninstall apps. Yes it could be annoying to you sometimes but that's doesnt really justify hating android. Anyway you're entitled to your opinion.

iOS allows u to delete. Android NEEDS this.

If I were you. I would just use adb to delete multiple files. It's much easier and faster.

I am unable to care about the subject mentioned, as such I am typing a mildly sarcastic reply.
The "I have finished" Dialog could do with going away, but to be honest I don't uninstall apps enough to care.
I do miss the list of app that I have paid for but don't have installed though

Not that I care much personally. Like many others I use an app to handle uninstalling. But the OP does have a point. The confirmation step in the end is meaningless. Removing it would be an improvement. I welcome all improvements, no matter how small they are.

Gotta wonder why they keep going that way instead of an "Exposé"-like approach. I mean, in webOS since the "cards" could be interacted with. Here it just feels like a waste of screen real estate...
I guess it's because they want to make individual task previews as large as possible when there are there many tasks to choose from.

I personally don't like this. wp7 is hassle free right now, the last thing on earth I want is yet another "task manager" or having to close apps to make sure they're not eating memory or battery or...
WTF why on earth... this is why winmo was a failure MS.
-edit-
Maybe I'm not understanding it right, and it wouldn't be keeping apps open, just keeping your spot open in where you were with the app.

I don't think they have gone into enough detail of how it works. It could be like iOS or it could be like Android. We'll probably have to wait til MIX to see.
Honestly Figured MS would implement a task switching feature like this. Either similar to Cards in WebOS or the 6 previous you see in Android when you hold down the home button

Wooo-Hoooo! A real multitasking! Out-friggin-standing! I'm so excited I'm as giddy as a school girl...hehe
This MT is every bit as good as the WebOS MT.
Hopefully we can manually "turn on" apps we want to keep running in the background.
Optimistic me believes MS recognizes the issues of task managers in WinMo and Android and has some sort of fix worked out.
This is wonderful and im sure will be improved upon

Is it really multitasking? I saw a video on youtube and lost my erection a little bit.
First he talked about how "fast" it was to switch back to a game and showed a demo. Click back button, do stuff go back to the game and it is paused. Click continue and it starts immediately.
Then he showed off how to display the list of multiple apps by holding the back button and scrolling through them.
Then he mentions even 3rd party music applications will be allowed to play music even after the user switches screens "like Microsoft's music player".
This is great!

Yeah but notice he isn't actually going into anything else. He keeps saying "yadda yadda do whatever I want, then just press back! It's so easy!"
What he's not showing is that now the cache will have the phone "app", the sms app, and maybe something else in its memory. It won't know that you want to go back to the game. So you'll be cycling through stuff before getting back to it.
But you can probably just skip that with a long-press back button
Erm, what? Did you miss the middle part where he jumps between 2 games and e-mail by holding "back"? Or am I not getting your point?
sounds like fast app switching form what he is saying... no idea how it works but its perfect for me as long as apps which require a connection can just stay connected and updated like an IM app for example. It would be **** if you have to sign in again

Dont listen to them, its a good valid question....but I would say you use your own judgment, Use TB to delete or freeze apps you dont think you are not going to use.
If you do a search there is a post,I don't remember where, but it has a spreadsheet of everything you"need" for the phone to work. Everything else is only needed if it pertains to an app you use or need. You will have to do some reading, it is an apk spreadsheet. It will answer your question better than me trying to type the 40 things I delete on almost every ROM. In fact I would love to see some of these new roms come in a "vanilla" form, and then I can add what I want. I came from the international version of this phone, so I am spoiled with all the development..

Well now that you're rooted why not flash a rom?
Most roms have all the unwanted apps removed already.
Another way if you're not sure is go to your app drawer, find the ones you don't want and just freeze those.
Example: I don't use Media Hub, T-Mobile ID, All share, Wifi Sharing, etc. So I go ahead and freeze those.
Its all personal preference.

I would use eaglesblood. It is vanilla. Or at least I think it is he uses launcher2 with his own tweaks. I love eaglesblood donniqcc is one of the best devs out there in my opinion. It is by far the best ROM on the G2x I was soooo happy when I saw that he made one for the sgs2. The only thing is it is still in the early stages I think only version 1.0 right now but he is working on an update I cant wait. He is supporting 3 phones so it will take some time but once he gets goiong there is no stopping him. But it definitely has a vanilla feel to it.

I am not being rude or anything but eaglesblood is not vanilla. I looked at his rom, all he did was take the stock rom and place Launcher2 inside. A true vanilla rom is built from google source tree (AOSP) and takes a long time to build from. The closest thing to vanilla is CM roms which still are not even vanilla because Cyan puts his own stuff in there. If you want to know what true vanilla is look back to the phone that started it all the G1. That phone is a true vanilla phone. He does have a great rom and I agree for somebody who wants no bloatware they can try that. But yo say its vanilla is inaccurate. Sorry completely off topic, didn't mean to sound rude just clearing things up. People use the term vanilla rom so loosely these days....if you have been around since the G1 you know what vanilla.

[Q] Annoying orange box!!

I've only recently started to have these orange boxes highlight everything all throughout the UI. It is so ****ing annoying!! I don't know if I messed with a setting of some kind or if it's an app that's causing it but I want it off! I've searched the web for an answer to no avail. Does anyone have a solution to this?

If not Id suggest backing a backup with CWM, perform a full wipe. If that fixes it then it could be a third-party app causing it.

To be sure it all wipes ok, connect to fastboot and type: "fastboot erase userdata"
That will erase ALL data, even the internal "sd-card". I remember a user here had a really painful bug where his home button wouldn't work and there was no lockscreen and that was all solved by erasing userdata through fastboot.
Does anyone use Pulse? I have nearly reinstalled all of my apps and I don't see the boxes.

also a pulse user....never had any problems like this...and i haven't ever seen a problem like this.
good luck with it though...that would be really annoying.
having the same issue here as the OP. It doesn't seem to be Nexus specific, I have a Galaxy S3 (i9300T) running ICS 4.0.4.
I have rooted (cf-root) the phone and am running Siyah kernel. Have gone through every single setting I can find in Android & browser, have also uninstalled all the 3rd party Apps without any resolution.
It seems that the orange box surrounds the first submit/input field and affects anything text based - my default browser, chrome, facebook app, etc...I've just realised now I can also have multiple boxes on each screen if i've visited the link.
I got really frustrated because this 'orange box' left me in a google account login loop whenever I try to use the browser to search google.com. As google account is the first link on the mobile page. It's reaaaaally frustrating!
Will have to wipe and reinstall again but hopefully this is of some help to others.

To each his own I guess. As a guy with only one arm I can state for me, it is MUCH easier and faster to say "new dental appointment, June 5th at 9am and then confirm with yes then it is to:
open apps, select calendar, click the month view tab, flip to June, click on the 5th, select "new" on the 9am tab and then type out dental, etc...
Running bamf/jamesbond and get a force close on it
Cleared data on it and reloaded... Skipped trying to set a new wakeup and it will go through to asking me "which app do you want to open "
Unfortunately no matter what I say she comes back with that same line.
Of course, restarted again and didn't bother to wake her up... And now commands work.

Probably it's searching for SGS3 alarm app
Can confirm that adding appointments and checking weather work though.
Timer will work as far as countdown, but doesn't seem to hook into any vibrate/ring function to notify you when it finishes.
It took me a few tries, and I only got it to install by skipping the setup part of it. The apk claimed I already had s voice installed. And, when I went to remove it, because it crashed despite installing it from system/app, it only gave me the option to remove updates. I'm running stock ROM and kernel. Unfortunately, I don't see how to get to settings for it, so I'm stuck calling it "Hi Galaxy!"
Here is a copy of the APK if anyone wants it

If the alarm worked - it'd be fastest to set alarm that way.
Also, the timer would be nice if it actually did something when the countdown finished.
Little things like that I could see it handy for... plus for answers you'd look up on google, could be quicker to answer at times.

Since Roam Control seems to be defunct should we offer a bounty

It seems roam control is defunct (based on lack of basic response and updates), but I see no reason reason another developer could not step in and offer a viable replacement. Should we put together a bounty and hope to entice a developer to design a replacement app? I am sure their are enough sprint users that would kick in.

Same here.
Im from htc (g1 and the 2 evos) I'm now Samsung4life.. is this crap normal for the galaxy series? seems like the first 2 mods after root where ALWAYS force roam and debloat.. I havnt even really seen a whole lot of talk about it.. I cant live without it.. sprint service is absolutely worthless without this mod.. im gonna try and hit up a old friend and see if this is really as hard to achieve as its sounding right now.. what is all of your experiences with past samsungs?
Lets see how long it takes mitchellvii to come and be a party pooper. He's a bounty hunter lol http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38427950 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36893173

I wish there would be some headway on this. There's been some change in the past two days that leaves me with 0 signal in my office and, of course, it won't stay on roaming and keeps bouncing back and forth. I don't know if they're having issues at this one tower, or if they have changed the direction of the antenna, or what.
I was looking for this as well to get my phone to force roam in places I got bad service. I had the app on my EVo, and EVo 3D and got spoiled. My service sucks at work and home even with the Airrave. This is what I did and it works for me.
- download this Hidden Menu apk View attachment HiddenMenu_No_Root.apk and install it
- download this zip View attachment Modded_VZW_PRLs.zip
- Once you download the Modded Verizon Zip. Extract the files. Rename the PRL that says 00002 to Test.prl. (Feel free to try other PRL's. Just posting what works for me). Use Move or Copy (My Files stock app, Astro, or whatever you use) to put Test.Prl on root of Sd Card, (not ext card).
- Once its on the root of the SDCard storage turn off your wifi, and your data.
- click on the Hideen Menu app (apk) you downloaded and installed already
- tap launch settings> ##DATA#Menu>View>PRL Write.
- After you tap PRL Write the phone should reboot.
- After reboot Tap Menu>System Settings>About Phone>Status and you should see this below
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
PRL should show 2
If it does you are now roaming. If it doesnt. Then try again. It usually works if data and wifi is off. If your looking to go back to Sprint. Just update your PRL the normal way. This wouldnt be considered "on the fly" like the roaming app, (without a reboot) but its fast, close enough and does the job for ME. If this is a repeat of what everyone already knew, ignore this obviously. This is for ppl that may not know or the search button isnt working for you.... I'm using Jelly Bomb btw. I know it doesnt work on AOSP Roms. Dont know about the others.
**I'm sure everyone knows the consequences for roaming too much on Sprint. I actually had my account terminated before for the same. Which in my case worked out. They terminated the contract but not my line, phone number or account so I was able to come back as a new account. May have got lucky. Dunno & dont want to find out. I try to use it just AS NEEDED and go easy on the DATA roaming as well. I monitor my bills just to be sure.. Dont get lazy and leave it roaming all day everyday because your content with having service everywhere like I did. Take it off when in places you have Sprint service.
Hope this helps
So................ I am in the middle of building my MC2 H20 ROM and I will see about putting this in my ROM maybe as a toggle option in the dropdown, and in settings. I will see what time permits. If I finish the rom before this is complete I will focus on this.
