I always have some things I get rid of with titanium backup after I install a new ROM. I heard you can debloat a ROM before installation. How do I do this? Is it just unzipping, deleting apk's, and rezipping or is there more to it?

You can just open it and delete without even unzipping, the apps are in /system/app, or just go in with a root browser app afterwards.

I want to remove the crap bloatware that TMO installed on this device. I know I can't delete it using the application manager, but it seems I can move it to an SD card perhaps?
Do I need to be root or super-user to delete the files or will I just have to wait until there are ROMs available?

If you are using the touchwiz interface all you can do for now is create a folder and throw all the apps in there and pretend it doesnt exist.....until root.

get app rom toolbox- go to root browser- try deleting file(s) first-
if that doesnt do the job- remove permissions- read, write execute from game(s). then reboot- This is not a guaranteed fix- But it should work. hope it helps.
Use titanium backup to uninstall the APKs.
I just updated to Jedi mind trick X2 from a few versions back, I can't restore my apps thru titanium because its looping while trying to gain root privileges

You shouldn't loose root by a factory reset, how did you install the rom if you flashed it the.apk can be taken out of the zip file using root explorer or an app like root explorer the apk you downloaded may not be compatible I'm going too upload my apk and ill post the link in a second you can't just click to install the apk has too be put into system/app folder

Don't factory reset, because it won't fix your problem. Factory reset doesn't touch the system partition, where the file was deleted from.
Make sure after you copy the file to the system partition, then set permissions for the file, otherwise it won't work. Using root explorer, set permissions so that they are the same as all the other apps in the apps folder.
Then reboot and that should fix your problem.
Thanks guys, I installed using rootexplorer and it worked!

Sooo I want to uninstall Gmail, so that I can install the blacked out version .apk, however I have no option to uninstall it. I could have sworn I was able to do that in the past, so I'm confused. I was going to use Titanium and force the uninstall, but I just wanted to make sure there isn't a specific reason it seems to want to stay on my phone...
Thanks!
I run K-9 Mail and I always uninstall Gmail with Titanium Backup. Currently running stock rooted.
Obviously back it up first.

after you uninstalled the app , you should try restarting the phone then try installing the gmail app you want ..hopefully that helps..
