Hey E4GT peeps;
So listen to this quick little story, and then let me know if I'm correct in my assumption:
I used to have JellyBean on my phone, not CM10, but Sbrissen's amazing ROM... well I decided to go back to stock everything and upgrade to ICS that way/etc... don't ask me why 'cause I don't know yet. lol. Well I did it, and I believe I used the One-Touch-Stock option to do it all. Well I went back to stock, everything was kind of weird... Android system felt laggy, and crashed, I was on ICS at that point btw, it was Stock FF18 I believe. Well anyways, I tried to do a few things, and suddenly things got worse... my battery stopped charging up completely... I would get the "Voltage too high" bs @ around 23% battery life. Well suddenly tonight the phone just shut off... and won't charge anymore. It won't turn on, and when I plug it into my PC or the wall charger, it still does nothing. All I get is a soft blinking blue light... not a solid red light (aka charging light)... well I tried to just let it sit on the charger for a few hours, and I left it off the charger for a few hours and still no success.
So I'm wondering... Do you think this is a Brick?
Do this you should be good.

Okay I didn't finish reading to the end of your post I'm pretty sure your phone is a brick but someone more qualified should chime in. I believe there might be a way to fix it but I'm not sure how or what its called. I'm assuming you pulled the battery and have tried to boot into recovery or download mode?

Yes, I pulled battery, tried to boot in both recovery/download mode... Right now I can't even get it to turn on. Occasionally I get the blue light that flashes every like 4 seconds. Phone doesn't show up in Odin at all.
Are you sure your battery is good? Because nothing that you've posted that you did should have resulted in a brick... I'm not very familiar with the "voltage too high" issue, I know there are threads about it though, you may want to take a look at the solutions offered there as your issue seems to be much more related to power than any traditional cause of a brick...

That's actually something I thought might be the issue. I'm going to the Sprint Store in like 5-6 hours and we'll see what the real issue is. I only jhope for a brick so that way they can replace my device, since I've dropped this one a few too many times and you can see the wear and tear.
Doesn't sound like a brick to me... Probably a battery as stated.

My guess is either bootloader or something physically wrong with the phone. Anything happen to it lately - get wet, dropped, etc?
Flashing blue is the battery. I've had this happen 3 times now.
Yeah solid blue is the brick. Blinking blue is likely the battery

Sounds like the charging/communication port is nit reading the charger. Mine has been acting weird lately. Sometimes I have to plug it in, unplug it a few times. After a few times I get it to read and it starts charging. My phone was a refurbished replacement.

Yea not a brick.. What ur saying sounds like the battery.. Solid blue is a brick.. Could also b the bootloader like someone suggested almost like stuck in a bootloop but instead of showing splash it just keeps trying to reboot itself

Thanks for the responses, it's currently sitting at the Sprint Store for repairs... I'm actually going to leave to go get it in like 40 minutes... If it's the battery, that's fine, cause they can easily get it working fast, which is good, because I need the phone for business/work.
Hate to sound negative, but mine was doing pretty much the same thing and it was definitely bricked. I took it to the sprint store and the tech scratched his head and said he's never seen one not be able to get into download mode. He then replaced the screen. Obviously didn't help. Mine had a solid blue light for a while, then as the battery wore down, the blue light flashed, but very very dim. I was hoping it was the battery too, but the rep at the front counter switched the battery for me before it even went to the tech. Anyway, good luck! Hopefully you're situation turn out better than mine!
mine did the same thing while I was on vacation so I wasn't flashing it was the charging port. Try bending the little port down a little

So I am back from the Sprint Store (and feeding my son), and basically it was the charging port... they said it has corrosion on it... from moisture... and I had to file a claim through asurion. How lame. The guy at the store was pretty dumb as he had no clue what was really wrong with it and couldn't even explain basic things... none the less, the tech guy assured me it was just the charging port itself, one of the prongs on it were damaged beyond repair, but since it was 'corrosion' they can't do anything about it. I need to shell out $100 to get a new one sent now.
Woot. At least I will be able to take better care of my replacement and not get it roughed up like this one, haha.

Man, I've never had a sprint tech fix anything for me. The most I've gotten from them is the card for how to get a replacement phone.
That's why I don't brick phones. The only time I go see Sprint is when something physical happens, even then, they don't fix it.

That's funny... When I actually did brick my phone the sprint tech said exactly the same thing. It's funny because I also left the store while they were going to do the repair. I was also told to pay $100 dollars because of "corrosion" on the board where the charging port is.... coincidence? Did you happen to go to the store in Mesa, AZ near Fiesta mall?
I don't see how "corrosion" on the USB port is preventing a charge, a good cleaning should fix that, I mean its not like a whole pin would have spontaneously rusted off. I also would suggest taking it to another store

I just got my E4GT a couple weeks ago...all of a sudden, it started going to hell. The touchscreen stopped working pretty much completely, it won't charge and won't acknowledge the USB cable at all, so I can't connect to Odin or flash a stock firmware, or use a usb jig.
It's a hardware issue, I know but can I still take it in? What are the chances they'll say I can't return it because I rooted it? All of the employees at my sprint store seem pretty clueless...is it worth a try just to see if they can fix/replace it?
I really don't want to pay 100 bucks for a new phone just because I rooted it -__-
Also, my parents are REALLY, REALLY pissed.
Thanks, for the love of god, help me.

First you say it's a hardware issue then you blame root. You should just take it back for a replacement. And never root again unless you know what you're doing.

I've posted this message before in the og epic forum: my grandfather always told me, of you can't afford to replace it, you have no business messing with it. Don't get started modding unless you are willing to buy another phone.
And I agree with the other guy, its either your flash issue or hardware. Not both.

If the battery is dead resulting in a phone that won't power on... there is no solution that can be offered here besides finding a cable that works to charge it.
If you bought this phone "a couple weeks ago" I'm going to bet we are past your window for returns, and if you modified your phone and don't know how to fix it, or can't do a simple troubleshoot of the USB cable/port... yes, you are completely screwed for the timeline you have setup.
Bring it to a sprint store, ask if you can test to see if their charger will charge your phone. If it does, its the cable and you can go buy a new one (better one) and all the other problems are probably moot.
If it doesn't charge, then its hardware issue on your phone (or an issue with something you did that we cannot reverse without the phone gaining power plus being able to be in download mode,) and you already know what I'm going to say.

This. Don't root your phone if you don't have the means or the willingness to deal with it if you bust it!
I know there must be somewhere in the thread but i can't find one with the same problem as mine. I was in middle of odin to put my phone back to stock. and it was stuck for over a half hr at the same place. so i unplugged it and tried to put it back on but it wont go the only thing that turns on is the blue light. i already tried the jig. its a no go. how can i unbrick this phone?
My phone has shut itself off then when i try to turn it back on i get nothing but a blue light what worked for me was taking the battery out for a couple minutes then trying it again. Have you tried that?

That happened to me when the phone first came out. Only a blue light came on and nothing else. Even the jig didn't work. I ended up just selling it and buying a new one. I hope someone has figured out a way to fix it for you

You have hard bricked your phone most likely. Like it was said, you can try to remove the battery for a few minutes to see if resetting the capacitors will fix it but I am ninety nine percent sure that it will not work. You have two options.
1) Play dumb at a sprint store
2) JTAG repair from mobiletechvideos
What you have done is flashed over the bootloader so you can no longer boot it or plug it into the computer. Can you post a link to the file that you flashed? My guess is that you flashed an i9000 tar and PIT which is not compatible with the E4GT. Not all Galaxy S2 phones are the same. In fact, they are all different.

That my friend is exactly right. Your cell is gone... Swap or jtag is your only options.
I am going to give the, "taking the battery out for a couple of min", a shot... I was afraid that those two were my last options. The phone is maybe 2 months old and I am not with sprint anymore. Is there a way to claim through warranty or something?

Good question... I do believe that there is a one year manufacturer warranty, but don't know how you would go about making a claim. I would definitely recommend the jtag service its only like $50. Even sprint would charge you $35 to swap if you were still with the m. So if you look at out that way $15 more ain't so bad.

Remove battery. Replace. Plug into charger. Does the batt charging screen come on? If so hold power until it boots. Done. Do your happy dance.. If no charge indication = brick.

This same thing happened to me!
What did you end up doing?
This happened to me too, but after flashing gunslinger kernel. I did a battery pull, then it let me boot into recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
same thing happened to me, went back to best buy where i got it and said "i dont know what happened", got a new one on the spot.
On top of it, when i got it at best buy they price matched amazon mobile, so i got it for 130
I Also bought it from Best Buy! But it was two months ago... You think i can still do it by them?
After an hour of searching forums I had realized that the phone was dead and wasn't coming back on. I too had the same blue light problem, couldn't get into recovery, couldn't do anything with the black screen. I took it to Sprint, and they don't have the capability of turning it back on in store. I believe this needs to be done by Samsung, and I imagine Best Buy wouldn't be able to either. The tech told me if he could not repair it, it would be replaced. My concern was the ship time and getting a refurbished unit. He told me because the phone was so new they are almost always replaced with a new unit. He said it was $35 because I didn't have insurance, but to "Come back after an hour, and if I can't fix it and it is insured it will be replaced free of charge." I went home, had Sprint add insurance, went back to the store a couple hours later. They swapped out my unit for a brand new one, free of charge, in about 5 minutes, activated and all. I was very pleased with how everything went as I was PISSED at myself for bricking my phone so bad! In all my years of hacking Palm Pres and Evos I never bricked a phone so bad that it couldn't be powered back on! But now I have a new GS2 (ROOTED )!
I recommend just trying a Sprint Repair Center. I bought mine over the phone. I played dumb and said that I let it die completely, which I rarely do, and when I charged it the blue light went on and it never powered back up. They said that was weird but gave no qualm about it. Hope this helps..
Well, needless to say I'm bricked... I got the blue light of death on my E4GT and when I went into sprint they started taking my phone apart and found a tiny water spot on the board. Referred me to Asurion and sent me on my way. I was not very happy with having to spend $100 dollars to file an insurance claim. I was wondering if I should go to a different sprint store or since the first tech cleaned the board to try again for a replacement or should I just ship it off to Samsung since I'm still under the 1 year warranty?
What is everyone else's experience with obtaining a replacement from sprint with TEP or sending out to Samsung for repair?

I was working on helping to port Sense 4.0 and forgot to Odin back to el26 to flash a working rom. Flashed cm9 using an unsafe kernel and locked up the emmc. Blue light of death, no download mode, no recovery.
Now, back to my question about Samsung warranty...
Sent from my piece of crap Zio until i get a replacement E4GT using XDA Premium app
I bought a phone off of craigslist, unfortunately the data could not be set up by sprint and I paid the 100 bucks to get a new/refurbed one. So for 100 plus the 150 I paid... it was worth it. The good thing about the insurance is that you can practically do anything with it and get a replacement.
I would like to know how you bricked it as well, because I've done things which I thought it was bricked but found out I was still able to somehow get it into recovery mode or do a Odin recovery. One time it drained my battery so I could not even charge it, but luckily a friend had a Galaxy S phone and charged my battery for me. Now I have 3 batteries and a battery charger too. LOL!
If you can get into download mode you can still fix it, but but you'll loose 2gigs of space and currently its not a permanent fix
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Try sending a PM to newalker91 about the issue and see if he can offer any advice about dealing with Sprint before going the Asurion route. In the meantime you can restore functionality if it boots by using an alternate .PIT file - you'll lose 2.9 GB of storage but hopefully keep $100 if he can help you out.
It doesn't boot at all... I just have a blue light, screen stays dark, if I try booting into anything the light flickers and then a steady blue. I have an old USB connector, could I get into download mode with a jig? I can get some resistors and make one if that would let me use Odin for the pit file.

I set my phone down on the counter one day to charge and didn't notice that my roommate had just made a mixed drink and left ice on the counter that melted... as soon as I noticed that the counter had liquid on it I quickly picked up my phone and took out the battery and let everything dry. I would say that it wasn't there for more than a minute before I noticed.
I just contacted Samsung today about getting a shipping label so that I can send it in for repair, I guess I'll have to go into a UPS store now and have them print the label and I'll need to purchase a box to ship it in.
My only question now is, Since the Sprint tech cleaned the board with whatever kind of alcohol they use, Will Samsung notice that it was ever wet and will I be charged anything for the repair since it is an issue with the eMMC?

I thought they would've... I guess I just got a tech that was an a hole. Maybe he didn't want to help me because there was some girl there with a smashed screen on her phone at the same time for repair, funny thing about that is he was willing to work with her when she said that her boyfriend intentionally smashed her phone.
I'm just going to send it back in to Samsung... I'm no longer with Sprint because of this. They lost me as a customer because of this.
This all started yesterday morning. My phone randomly reboots, often after hitting the power button. I hardbricked my S3. I messed up, I know. It was my fault that I didn't notice that the Slimbean was only for the international version. I have been looking online for a solution, but all I'm seeing is that I have to get a new phone. I cannot access Recovery or Download mode with or without the battery in while or while not plugged into the computer. Though, while the battery and SD are out, the charging/notification light will light up when plugged into the computer for about one minute, but that's it. Is there anyway to turn it into Sprint for a new one? It's been under a month. So...any advice?

Personally I recommend the search button. That usually helps. Its a paperweight and a jig is useless. Go to sprint and play stupid. They'll replace it

did you mean to quote me? i was just commenting on him saying he didn't have a soldering gun... i'm not saying if it will work or not, but if he did want to try it, it's a fairly simple object to make, with very simple and cheap tools. i don't have to search to know that it's just a few resistors and a male micro usb plug, maybe 15 bucks for everything including the soldering iron.
if you have insurance you can go to a sprint repair store and get it replaced for free... it usually takes about 2 days for your replacement to come in..

That is what I'm planning on doing tomorrow.
UPDATE: I did get it replaced yesterday. Told me it'd take thirty minutes, went out and got lunch. When I came back, they said they have no clue what happened to it to cause it to fry like it did, so they swapped it out for a new model. I'll root tomorrow when I have more time. I'll stick to what I can find here on XDA now on. Any recommendations for a good AOKP ROM?

The AOKP I am using for Sprint Galaxy S3.
Very nice. Works well. Love the emoji and custom ability.

I know, foolish. Coming from the OG Evo, I didn't have to worry about seeing if it was American or International and which carrier it was for. I'm being more careful this time.
Call samsung say the phone died and won't come on. They will replace it as long as there is no physical damage. One year manufacture warranty is still valid use it f sprint don't waste your time. Samsung is fast at sending you a new or refurbished phone. I had several phones replaced. They send you a new phone or used phone and a box to send your old one. They don't check for rooting or nothing they just install new software on the phone and send it out to the next person. Now ups is my issue with the entire process, they Just leave it on your door step even if your not home it happened twice thank god no one stole my phone, I thought we were supposed to sign for it but I guess not.

Happened with my wife's phone as well. Full charged then it just shut down. Tried everything and nothing. Sprint told me it was fried.
