Regardless, it's an Android device, and has the ability to be customized. If a user wants Touchwiz on their device, why discourage them?
I'd be interested in seeing what Touchwiz is like

Considering there's no touchwiz tablet ui for 4.1 yet the only thing I could see being ported would be a touchwiz phone ui. And even then that would be a challenge in its own. But xda proves the unlikely everyday so who knows.

Why? Man I had that on my captivate and it's even worse now. You really want your nexus 7 looking likely to its running gingerbread?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Far be it for me to support TW, but the new TW on S3 looks ok(not good, but ok). I prefer the N7's look (tried true tab UI fix, 192DPI,160DPI but came back to the default 1), but that doesnt mean ppl shouldnt have options. I am more of a sense 4 fan though.
i don't know if it is possoble, but: i found an option in the latest jelly bean touch wiz leak, to activate TabletUi. I only tested it with Galaxy Nexus but it force closed. Smalldookie ordered a nexus 7, when it's there we will try.
If you want a 7" tablet with TouchWiz, Samsung has a lot of them for you to look at. Using a ported TouchWiz ROM on the Nexus 7 probably wouldn't work that well, with TouchWiz being propitiatory and all.

WHY!?
Honestly it's probably not possible, you would need some proprietary source code.
My roommate has a gtab2 and touchwiz sucks on it. It's bogged down so much from all the garbage. And of course my phone has htc sense and also very bogged down. Pure android is the way to go imo

Apparently if a user installs Touchwiz, it negitavely affects anyone else significantly; because all customizations that others don't approve of obviously do this
This isn't a closed-down OS like iOS, but if you feel it should be, perhaps your using the wrong OS/device...

I just don't get why someone would buy a device and shoehorn something onto it like this. It seems like when stuff like this happens the performance isn't as good and features are missing.
Why not wait a month or two and wait for the manufacturer to develop it properly, then have vanilla android built for it? You get the best of both worlds. With the price to performance ratio, and popularity of the platform, it is bound to happen.
Edit: Additionally, it can be viewed that wanting this would tell manufacturers "We want your skin on any android device" and they would open it up to allow that to happen. However, it just seems they hear "I want your locked down customized device so much I'm going give you tons of money!" and things just continue as the locked down platform you mentioned.
To each his own. No its not a crime to want touchwiz but it's a forum so I'm going to state my opinion
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
The only reason I considered a galaxy tab 2 was because touchwiz. It just makes a tablet more fun, has alot more options.
But it also is missing the drag and drop to create folders functionality. Folders in Touchwiz act more like gingerbread. Also don't get the screenshot button, it's pointless, screen shots are already built in holding power + volume down. The screen shot virtual button is easy to bump.
To each his own. Ever since I put cm7 on my captivate I've been somewhat of an android purist. I always thought sense looked cool so I got my vivid and flyer to check it out and found i didn't like it as much as I though I did. Sense is neat but unnecessary and makes customization a pain. I activated the aosp lockscreen on my vivid yesterday only to find out that alarms and phone calls won't display when the phone is locked because Sense uses its lockscreen to display the information.
I think pre ics the skins were necessary because android was an ugly beast and most of the core apps were very basic but ics and up android looks gorgeous and skins just impede on its natural beauty. Put it this way when my vivid got its ics update I was sure if it updated or not. Everything still looked like gingerbread. I had to check the settings to make sure I was indeed on 4.03. And htc disabled the over scroll and ics animations!

Hey I know this should be in Development Forum but I'm not allowed to post there yet, was wondering if it would be possible for a Dev to make a ROM to run Cupcake/Doughnut/Eclair on the GNexus?
Obviously not for a daily driver but for simple curiosity to its possibility and its speed. I imagine that on such a powerful device such a simple OS would run blazingly fast.
Feel free to repost this in the right forum, actually please do.
AJ
Q: Why the hell would you want to do that ? :| You want fast ? Try a 4.0.3 ROM and that's it. End of story.
I wouldn't use it daily, I just never got to use the old android versions and I think it would be a cool gimmick. If the G1 can run ICS why can't the Nexus run Cupcake?
I'm currently running the AOKP (Kang Project), I'd say its the best ICS ROM I've come across
Why would you ever want to do this? it would be equivalent to taking your PC and putting windows 95 on it.....Why would you. 4.0.3 ICS works fine, it doesn't slow the phone down any, downgrading to an older OS isn't going to show you some amazing massive speed increase.
While it may be possible, I think you can assume from the tenor of the responses so far that it isn't too likely that you'll find a lot of people interested in investing the time to make it happen.

This may be the only constructive reply here, thank you. I just wondered if it would be possible or if anyone else was curious enough to try it. Never mine, I'm holding out for a sense ROM, again not a daily driver just a time to time use thing
as ittekaimus said, you'd be unable to run those.
all those versions of android required physical buttons, so you won't have home, back, or menu unless you added softkeys, would would basically require a rewrite of the original code. and no one is going to do it.

Excuse me if I posted this in the wrong forum, I didn't really consider this a topic that belonged in Q&A.
I've spent most of the day kanging together a rom that's reminiscent of TouchWiz (the UI on Samsung's line of phones). It was designed as more of a personal project, but if it interests anyone I'll get permission for the people whose sources I used and if all goes well, I'll release it.
Here's what I've done:
Started with Aeroevan's latest CM9 build
Replaced Trebuchet with the ICS TouchWiz launcher
Changed a bunch of apps' icons to TouchWiz ones
Made the statusbar more TouchWizzy
Here's a very large screenshot (three in one!): http://i.imgur.com/wPolY.png
Let me know what you think!
Sure dude I've never played with touchwiz before
That is a large screenshot.
It looks nice. I like what you've done with it. I'm sure I'd be interested in testing it out a bit if you release it.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of Touchwiz. I am a bigger fan of Sense 4. When I saw TouchWiz on the Samsung Galaxy S3 during the launch, I was put off by the fact that they made it look very much like Gingerbread. The icons look childish-y for my taste... But looking at your screenshots, I must say it looks better than what I saw on the SGS3. So, bring it on, I say! More choices, more power to the people!
I am very interested in this!!

I don't know why people complain so much about OEM skins. I rather like them. Then again, I'm highly optimistic and enjoy most everything, so maybe that helps.
Touchwiz isn't really as nasty as people say it is. I haven't used a TW rom in ages, but I always enjoyed the scheme (Except for the Droid Charge. That was the stupidest thing I think anyone has ever done in the history of smartphones. Brown and orange? That's disgusting, no matter how nice not having a pentile screen is.) I liked their take on Gingerbread. It was simple, modern and had some nice widgets. Touchwiz 4 is even nicer. Also, I like having audio feedback enabled but set very quiet so it's not distracting, and Sammy has the best tick sounds ever. That may be an odd detail, but I rather liked them. The Fascinate had a really nice puzzle piece lockscreen that would show a piece for different notifications and you'd drop them into the open spot.
Also, screens. Until the One X, Samsung has run circles around every other Android OEMS screens. My Fassy had the most beautiful screen I've ever used, and with VooDoo controls you could adjust the gamma ratios and fine tune it to get your own perfect whites. There is a lot you can do with Samsung phones, especially now that they have a mobile Odin app. Samsung phones don't really have bootloaders. They have a tool, called Odin, that ran on Windows only and it flashes your firmware, kinda like whatever the SBF tools Moto users have. You can flash custom packages, but you were very dependent on it for switching between Touchwiz roms and AOSP because Samsung pulled an idiotic move and invented their own filesystem that is brain numbingly slow. VooDoo saved the day again by being included in recoveries and enabling ext4 and mtd filesystems.
Samsung also invented those really nice notification toggles we love so much in CyanogenMod.

Since people seem interested, I'll get this polished and released. Working on getting a better launcher, the one I'm using doesn't let you resize widgets ;_;

The key difference being that the HD2 is a Windows Mobile phone. Windows Mobile is entirely closed source and cannot be ported to hardware that it does not already run on natively.

Just use launcher7 and it will look similar. There are a few other apps that can make it look like wp7 also.

Adding to what mitchell.23 said above, the HTC HD2 is very close hardware wise to some real WP7 devices. That's why the drivers work.
Launcher7 is awesome...but it's not the same as true WP7.
I "do" see the draw to that OS...it's sexy....but why on earth would anyone want to put it on the GNex.
1. The GNex OS (ICS) is sexier.
2. A Windows phone with true WP7 is way better then a GNex with a WP7 ROM.
Just saying.
It's never been done as far as I know it all of Androids lifespan. Sooooooooo....maybe a WP7 phone is in your future?

I see what you're saying, but as others said, the HTC HD2 hardware is very close to that of other WP7 phones (Snapdragon, 480×800 screen, 512 mb ram, HTC drivers), so its not too difficult to get it working in there.
But I see the appeal, I'd definitely be interested in getting a WP7 as a BACKUP device, they're nice devices, but no where near Android or even iOS in terms of customization, apps, and functionality. The UI is great tho.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
WP7 is closed source. The only reason it is able to be on the HD2 is due to licensing and it having been a Windows Mobile device.

So I had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean and today I sold my nexus and bought the SIII. I never realized how much software matters over hardware! Sure the SIII has more ram and a slightly better camera but I will tell you while I miss my nexus!!!!!
1. Stock OS - I hate the fact why on my SIII I cant organize my apps into other app folders. I feel like I am running android 2.4 and not 4.04!
2. Jelly Bean- I love project butter (even though the Siii is still smooth) and I way prefer googles voice assistant alot more
3. Build- I think I am one of the few that prefer the the size and material of the nexus. Even though the nexus is close in size, I still feel the
S3 is just too big. Not to mention I prefer the rubberized feel on the nexus.
4. On screen menu keys. Just have not got used to the S3 and dont know if I ever will.
5. Ability to swap roms. Being that verizon has a locked bootloader on the S3 and there are no working Jelly bean roms, I feel by the time
Verizon upgrades to Jelly Bean I will be counting down the days till the Galaxy Nexus 4 comes out!!!!
*****Thinking about selling my S3, but dont want to waste an upgrade on a new phone so just may give it to family and buy my nexus back***

If its not in the Verizon GS3 section then no. And it will be a while until CM9 fully works in that phone... which is why I love my gnex.

Same boat had the s3 for about 3 days and decided to go to the nexus the battery sucks on this phone but with the gs3 I felt lime it was a broken phone waiting to happen.. gnex feel a lot more solid and feels smooth software wise...

Unfortunately cyanogen mod in other phones will always have quirky bugs due to Samsung proprietary blobs..
I had the s2 since 2 weeks ago with cm9 and it still had lingering issues (wacky compass which affected gps, no tvout, volume not returning to normal after notifications with headset)

It doesn't work properly on Verizon phones yet but progress is being made.

I havent checked the forums in a few days but i mean cant we not flash roms on the verizon SIII because of the locked bootloader?
Glad I was able to choose my Nexus over the siii. I'm glad I didn't have to make the mistake before hand. Google FTW!

even though you can slap a cyanogen onto a non-nexus device, it will took longer than on nexus. On Nexus, Google update new version, the longest you have to wait is one week before a build is surfacing. But nowadays our dev are super so it only took few hours lolz, and with pretty much everything working most importantly.
With non-nexus, NO~~ it took ages to wait for this driver, that source code wtf wtf bla bla bla~~ I've been there with SGS2 and One X, regretted my choice. and you cant enjoy the true feeling of AOSP too. you'll notice you need TW or Sense for a better hardware experience like the camera, etc etc.
oh as asdfasd2 said, yes i agree. Samsung does sucks with their source codes. CM was long enough on SGS2 and still, after they release the codes, devs are having headaches fixing what were supposed to be fixed. Luckily Nexus S and Gnexus are handled by Google, not them.
i must confess i was feeling a little tempted myself but ever since the nexus 7 release i cant take the damn table off my mind just waiting a couple of weeks to see if a nexus 10 is gonna be release but i cant wait a lo more

We will be lucky if a nexus 10 comes out in a couple months.

Are there any s3 Roms?
The thing hasn't even been released yet. Give it some time, jeez.

Maybe because nobody cares enough? Its not impossible. But the effort required may not be worth it.

Why would you want the s4 touchwiz.. If you want it just get the s4 when it hits the market.
This isn't even related to the nexus 4 forum..

That's like asking an s4 user "why would you want aosp? Just buy a nexus"
Like I said in a different thread. I'd be happy with an aosp base and a sense 5 overlay. And no I won't buy an HTC, tired of them releasing a phone every 6 months. But its just for the looks. The carrier skins aren't bad, but their base is and their update delays..
I'm using the Sony Xperia Z launcher on AOKP.. For me.. I just want the launcher of sense, maybe touchwiz, etc. The full ROM isn't a concern to me, but its cool to have more to choose from.. Some may want the power of nexus with the features of Samsung? One can dream..
But to each his own

Hmmm... not impossible, but close. Firstly, touchwiz isn't open source. Secondly, vastly different hardware.

True, but I have ported a ROM from the galaxy nexus to the HTC one XL, a lot of it is just decompiling and patching smali files.. It takes a while, but would probably take even longer when porting something not aosp

Even if it could be done it's doubtful it will be for the simple reason very few would want it. As has been said touchwiz is truly awful

I agree with you on that, im just saying its cool to have options not native to our phone. What im REALLY after is that LG Optimus G ROM
Sent from my Nexus 4
first the device needs to be announced first
second is it needs to be released for someone to make a sys dump..
and third some one must be brave enough to volunteer his/her device to the cause..which is i think not that bad..
i dont think its impossible, but seriously you want touchwiz rom in nexus device?
many touchwizer i know are dying to have vanilla on their device

no really it is impossible to get touchwiz framework ported to our nexus. Galaxy framework isnt open source and uses different hardware! So its not possible to get that work on our n4. Just maybe some theme mods and the launcher. But lockscreen the apps and the new functions that the Galaxy s4 would become cant ported to the N4. You maybe saw the LG Optimus G Port in Android Development here on our forum and the lg uses exactly the same hardware and its rom is in ALPHA Stage and the developer bricked his phone due porting.

if i may ask an off topic Q, which xperia z launcher you use?
regards
Anyone asking these sort of questions:
"Why would you want ______ on a nexus if you wanted ______ you should have bought a ______. "
Will be answered with
"Because we f***ing can, welcome to nexus"
God I hope not. Down with TW!
