Hey I know this should be in Development Forum but I'm not allowed to post there yet, was wondering if it would be possible for a Dev to make a ROM to run Cupcake/Doughnut/Eclair on the GNexus?
Obviously not for a daily driver but for simple curiosity to its possibility and its speed. I imagine that on such a powerful device such a simple OS would run blazingly fast.
Feel free to repost this in the right forum, actually please do.
AJ
Q: Why the hell would you want to do that ? :| You want fast ? Try a 4.0.3 ROM and that's it. End of story.
I wouldn't use it daily, I just never got to use the old android versions and I think it would be a cool gimmick. If the G1 can run ICS why can't the Nexus run Cupcake?
I'm currently running the AOKP (Kang Project), I'd say its the best ICS ROM I've come across
Why would you ever want to do this? it would be equivalent to taking your PC and putting windows 95 on it.....Why would you. 4.0.3 ICS works fine, it doesn't slow the phone down any, downgrading to an older OS isn't going to show you some amazing massive speed increase.
While it may be possible, I think you can assume from the tenor of the responses so far that it isn't too likely that you'll find a lot of people interested in investing the time to make it happen.

This may be the only constructive reply here, thank you. I just wondered if it would be possible or if anyone else was curious enough to try it. Never mine, I'm holding out for a sense ROM, again not a daily driver just a time to time use thing
as ittekaimus said, you'd be unable to run those.
all those versions of android required physical buttons, so you won't have home, back, or menu unless you added softkeys, would would basically require a rewrite of the original code. and no one is going to do it.

U mean 400dollar device
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I got my 4.0 aftet doing this.
First delete the threads like when will we get ics if you started a thread
Second do a factory reset.
Third pull out the battery.
4th put the phone and battery in the desk drawer.
5th dont touch the phone for 3months from now on
6th then u can put the battery back in and you should receive an ota or check xda. If you didnt get it repeat the process.
its important not to use the phone in that period of time because the phone knows if u created a thread or not. If you did created the thread and dont follow this procedure the phone will go back to cupcake(1.6) and lock him self up with some hardcore bootloader that u can never root it. And the phone will overvolt your phonw by 4times and underclock the phone to 400mhz and use only single core.
And cut the ram and memory by 1/4. So careful if you dont want to end up with 400mhz overvolted 256 mb ram 4gb phone. Oh and one more thing. It will only do 2g and no wifi.
Ics update or ****ty phone. Your choice

Would be a hard sell to a dev.
Essentially you would be asking "Can you waste your time porting an older OS to my phone that not many people will use, will provide no real benefits, and will require back porting drivers?"
Now if it did come out it would be cool (choices are nice) but I four it will come out.

The dev would also have to create some software buttons, as they're not present in gingerbread.
Would be cool though. Some people may prefer pre-ICS.

Yes just fun.
I sometimes wonder if maybe ics is what slows down this amazing phone.
I also wonder (cause many people compare the gnex with the s2 and say s2 is faster) I know the processors are a difference but not that huge of a difference so I wonder if gingerbread is what's keeping the s2 faster for or noticeably faster then the gnex with pics I wonder if ics will slow down the s2 as well. Idk just thoughts just fun.

ICS slowing down the GN? what?
Gingerbread isn't even optimized for multi-core phones.
gnexus has to run faster with ics.
I believe ics is made for the galaxy nexus. to this specific device. therefore ics should definitely be faster.
putting gingerbread on this would be hard cause we only have on-screen buttons.
and you don't see people putting 2.2(froyo) or 2.1 or even below 1.6 on
devices like gsII. razr. rezound.
why put gingerbread on gnex? it would just be cool but not useful in anyway

Hello guys so i want to start by saying i'm coming back to android after a whole year=]. So basically i was the biggest android fan boy, i had about every android phone: G1, G2, Nexus One, Mytouch 4g, Galaxy nexus and the list goes on. I really got bored of android for some reason nothing was really changing so i jumped on the Iphone bandwagon. I love my iphone (currently the 4s) but im just bored of it i really miss android and want to go back. Since its been so long ive been disconnected from the android world so i really dont know about the new stuff or what phone i want to get. Right now i have sprint and im not due for an upgrade any time soon. I would just like for you guys to give me some suggestions on what phone i should get, right now im thinking the galaxy nexus because its the last android phone i had and i really really loved it. thanks in advance.

It's pretty strange to call a guy a dumb ass for using an iPhone. Last time I checked they make calls, texts, and apps run. Not sure what the problem is. My GNex is great, but i have a 4S as well. There are many apps first and only for iOS, and if I am going to a party or club its the best for photography (compared to my GNex). I would say Nexus 4 given your current choices. Nexus is always the way to go, and it has great specs.

If I had to take a guess, I would blame it on the Snapdragon SoC. The Infuse and nearly every other Sammy handset is rocking an Exynos SoC. They usually get the bulk of the attention and once one handset with the chip gets a release, it's simple to port it to other Exynos based handsets. Just a guess though.

Actually the Infuse has a Cortex A8 Hummingbird which is the same cpu used in the international Galaxy S and US variants. Besides the Nexus devices that family of devices is usually first to receive a new release of CM.

Yea.. the Hummingbird is also the Exynos 3 SoC. Since the Nexus S is still getting full frontal CM attention, the rest of the Humminbird devices having CM 10.1 makes sense.

Come on guys, this forum has been open for only a few days and there already is fighting. The point of the matter is that if someone asks a question, do your be best to answer without being a douche. Too much on this site have I seen people judging people for what they want to do with their device (such as taking pictures or using wallet with a tablet, trying to get instagram to work, etc.), its their device and they can do whatever they like with it. No one made you the official judge of whats cool or not! So play nice and help out your fellow members in this Dev community without your personal opinions reflecting in your post

I thought that was odd too, they had Wallet working Day1 on the OG N7...
Google wallet? I do not understand!
Has any one tried pushing it from any of the gpe roms? Neither the s4 nor one have secure elements in them and they come out of the box with wallet at least the gpe models... just a thought I'm gonna try if no one else beats me to it

Lol, i never take my tablet anywhere unless on vacation, dont really see the need to pay with my tablet, may as well use my credit card
That Androidpolice story is a bit confusing. Does it say that it will never be compatible due to lack of security chip or it may be compatible in the future with updates?
Will never be compatible due to the lack of the secure element chip.
Same as the play editions of the htc one and S4.

There may be hope for a working version in the future.

Sorry to say but that's that standard message that it displays to devices that aren't currently supported. It doesn't mean they are working on support for it.
